Very interesting museum. Mostly discussing early Costa Rica and the Nicaragua war with US filibusters. Free wifi so you can use Google translate if you do not read Spanish. Some English translations are provided. Free entrance.

Beautiful museum to learn about Costa Rica history. Everybody was very friendly with us. The place was empty so we enjoyed our visit and the bodyguard opened the roof top for us. The view was excellent.

The museum and Santa Maria Park in downtown Alajuela Costa Rica is a wonderful introduction to the fight for Independence, and struggle against interlopers (Filibusters) such as William Walker in the 19th to 20th centuries.

I was very impressed. I was once a historical museum curator. This museum rivals the National Museum in San Jose in quality of exhibits. And amazingly, it's free.

What an amazing experience! Do not miss an opportunity to visit. Most exhibits were translated to English, and were displayed in a very logical and comprehensive manner! Even a few of the security guards pointed out interesting facts and helped make it a true educational experience! Did I mention it is FREE?

Free museum. The presentation of history is truly interesting, meaningful and symbolic. I love how they Museum is able to connect past and present of all Costa Ricans. My teenager and I were so lucky that one of the room stewards guided us through. Thanks Mr. Blanco.

The people working there were very kind and obviously care a lot about the history. We practically had a private tour of the place due to a recent holiday. It's also free entry

Had some time to kill before our flight. Went to Alajuela and found the museum. The people who work there were really nice. We learned about the history of Costa Rica and saw some great art. All for free and with friendly people. The town of Alajuela is pretty cool too. We were the only Americans anywhere. We got some lunch at a Soda in the market and hung out in the park. Weather was perfect. It was interesting and everyone was very nice.

No ticket is needed. Very friendly staff members. Has displays telling history of America (North, Central) If you read Spanish would be even better as ~40% ? display are in Spanish only.

History of Costa Rica... the building is a remodeled prison Alajuela. There's some paintings, some weapons and artifacts. Written descriptions are in Spanish with some English translation below. Good introduction to the creation of Costa Rica.

Very very nice for a free museum. A ton of history displayed very professionally. It would take a long time to soak in every exhibit. In a crowded place but the park and surroundings are nice.

It's a very interesting place to learn about the history of 1856 war against William Walker. The Museum is small... the building itself is a historical site and the exhibitions are very well done and tell you the story from the Costarican point of view.

Good information about the history of costa rica. If you are in alajuela definitely should go and check it out. It's free to get in.

this Museum seems to get better each time that I go there it gives a good view of the Alajuela history. The staff is friendly and very informative. I wish that there was more in English but I realize that this is a big job for a small Museum. If you're ever in Alajuela and get caught in the rain it is a good place to pass the time. They also have good clean restrooms.

This was a great free museum in a nice space. Lots of historical information, enough English descriptions for visitors with limited Spanish to understand exhibits. There was a fantastic art exhibit upstairs when we were there.

More friendly faces - the wardens were keen to unlock the door to the roof top, letting us slowly walk the perimeter to take in the sights, sounds and smells of Alajuela. The exhibits are well presented and clearly show how war had its place in their history.
