Many people come to Los Vaqueros from the Vasco Road entrance - for people who are looking to enjoy the scenery and stretch their legs it may be a better choice to come in from the other end. Visit the John Muir Interpretive Center to learn about the local history and ecology before you hop on the Vista Grande trail which takes you straight to the top of a ridge line with scenic views in every direction. It's a steep vertical climb but the payoff is really terrific. Bring water no matter what time of year but this trail is best in the winter and spring when the temps are cool and the scenery is green.

March 8th, 2022 Update: The management has gotten back to me regarding the issue and told me they are in the process of moving the herd of aggressive cattle away from people. Have to give credit where it is due so my review is now 4 out of 5 stars. March 5th, 2022 Review: Beautiful views, but beware of the cows! My mom and I went 2 days ago and a herd of cows chased us back where we came from near Adobe Trail. We've hiked for many years now and are always cautious around them fearing something like this happening. It didn't help this time despite us keeping distance waiting for them to clear the trail. The entire herd closed in on us from 3 sides and chased us back up the trail for around a third of a mile. We hiked in from Round Valley Regional Preserve. I realize we didn't pay for the park, but the main parking lot costs $6. Considering they charge so much money for parking, the management should be managing the aggressive cows that chase visitors out of the park. This does not fill me with confidence with paying to go park at the main parking area as I have no clue if there will be a repeat of getting chased out of the park by an aggressive herd of cows.

Excellent stripper and catfish fishing from the bank and a boat. The only boats you can use are the one's they provide.

Very serene and beautiful. Lot of people were fishing here. We came just for few hours and did the boat ride. This is a great place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Nature.

Very good place. Isolated! No many people here, I guess it because it need parking fee. You come her to go fishing, hiking and play the water. Not long way from parking lot to dam.

Took a brief hike on a very hazy Sunday morning around 8am. Only a few fishermen down by the water. The trail from the north entrance up the hill from the dam is quite a jaunt. Unfortunately, the trail was blocked near the highest peak just a couple of hundred yards from the top. The inviting coves on the other side of this trail, seem to be more directly accessible from the other entrance.
