After
my
driver
mentioned
he'd
rather
not
have
half
a
day
off
resting
(he
was
given
a
poor
quality
room
in
our
hotel),
I
checked
Google
Maps
for
things
to
do
around
Dholpur.
A
Chambal
boat
safari
seemed
like
the
obvious
choice,
The
river
wasn't
too
far
away
and
it
would
bring
the
afternoon
to
a
nice
end.
The
wait
for
an
actual
boat
nearly
put
me
off,
we
sat
in
a
tent,
baking
to
death
for
over
an
hour.
There
were
so
shops
or
stalls
selling
water
or
snacks.
However
once
we
were
out
in
the
motor
boat,
we
enjoyed
ourselves
(yes,
my
driver
came
too).
The
speed
of
the
boat
actually
created
a
wonderful
blast
of
cool
air,
and
since
the
Chambal
is
one
of
the
cleanest
rivers
in
India,
I
had
no
qualms
about
soaking
a
small
towel
in
the
water
and
cooling
my
face
down.
I'm
no
wildlife
expert,
so
I'm
glad
our
boat
driver/guide
could
point
out
all
the
species
of
birds
that
we
came
across.
Turtles
and
a
few
Gharials
were
spotted
too.
I
think
my
driver
had
a
good
time
too,
although
he
was
probably
disappointed
with
the
photos
he
took
on
his
mobile,
no
wildlife
came
close
to
our
boat,
a
zoom
camera
was
needed.
One
downer
after
the
boat
safari
ended
was
the
guide
asking
for
his
tip.
The
safari
cost
Rs2000.
He
was
given
Rs100
(would
have
been
more
if
he
hadn't
have
had
the
cheek
to
ask
for
it).
Tip:
A
camera
with
a
zoom
is
essential.
Do
not
rely
on
your
mobile
phone
for
photography.
Tip:
Bring
water
with
you
and
leave
with
your
plastic!
