There is an amazing variety of trails here.. For people of all abilities you will find something. Mount Wrightson is a 4000' climb be careful in bad weather. You can hike download or you can hike up high in the forest. There are maps available

We hiked Old Baldy trail up to Josephine Saddle and back. It is a steady climb up, with some larger rocks, but the path is well maintained and moderately trafficked. It's a moderately difficult trail, takes about 60-90min to get to the Saddle, much faster down 🙂 there are some nice views along the way but it is largely obstructed with trees. Overall, a good hike!

A bad day here is better than a good day elsewhere. Nice photo opportunities all along the trails for tweeties, and the water flow offers some variety. Having the brim of your hat get grazed by a Magnificent chasing another, exhilarating! Trail head parking areas were busy mid-week, but we got there at 10 and were able to find parking. We're full time RVr's focused on hiking, blog link in bio.

It was a beautiful, cool and misty day up in Madera Canyon on Sunday! Hikers and families were enjoying the day. Wonderful trails and picnic areas to enjoy under a canopy of different huge trees. Many Deer were munching away on the grasses too. If you have not been, it is an oasis in the desert. A true Sky Island. From grasslands at the bottom to tall pines heading up in altitude and giant oaks, cottonwood and sycamore trees lining the creek areas. A very magical place for everyone to enjoy!

Such a nice experience and memories from my visit here in 2019 that I brought a friend here today. The paved paths and limited elevation changes were perfect for some with limited mobility. Even with the developed and maintained paths with numerous benches, the wildlife abounds in the area. We saw several different species of birds and a group of 6 deer where we were able to get nice photos. Good views to the West with the mountain range to the East. A short trip from I-19. The federal park pass can be used here or $8/day fee.

Madera Canyon is a beautiful recreational area that is perfect for camping, picnicking, hiking, and bird watching. The fee for a one day pass is $8 and can be purchased at any picnic/trailhead area. Camping is on a first come, first serve basis and does not have reservations available. I recommend going to the southern end of the canyon for the best bird watching and hiking trails. The canyon has plenty of shade from the dense tree coverage and has a plethora of wildlife, especially birds! It's usually about 10-15 degrees cooler than Tucson, depending on how high up the canyon you are. This is a wonderful place to get away into nature and I encourage you all to explore it yourself!

Very beautiful, but DON'T get off the trail! I got lost for 3 hours & ended up getting 911 to talk me back to the trail.

It's a special place! It upsets me how many families go up & leave their trash. There was a diaper & glass bottles by the stream, real upsetting. We all as a community need to be responsible for picking up. Please Be Kind
