As a Tucson native and local Oro Valley Real Estate Agent, I've been able hike most of the trails around town. Pima Canyon is my absolute favorite trail to hike. First, it is really close to my home which makes hiking it on a regular basis super easy. Also, it is a very diverse hike starting in a desert hiking terrain and then moving up into the cottonwoods. It also has running water at different times of the year. The views of the city are amazing with a short 15-20 min hike from the start of the trail head. Having a beautiful trail like this is a great perk of living in Tucson, AZ. If you're visiting be sure to check it out!

Keep in mind I’m 75. I enjoyed this trail. Not a elevator climb like many in the area. It has rained a lot in the past week and that morning, so the rocks were slick. But the mountain was green. A gorgeous canyon, enhanced by all the moisture.

**No dogs allowed because of bighorn sheep** Fun hiking trail with beautiful desert scenery. A good workout, but not an intense trail. There were several rocky places I was glad I had my hiking boots on.

This trail is one of our favorites. It crosses the creek quite a few times and has many opportunities to see wildlife. It starts all up hill but levels off. It is fairly popular on weekends.

Lots of parking and an interesting trail past four or five custom homes until you get into the wilderness. Quite a few people hiking - in my first 15 minutes I passed about 25 people leaving. I met another 19 people during the rest of my almost 3 mi hike. It was great to have some water in the bottom of the canyon, Even if it was just a trickle and some small pools. Hiking past water really makes my day here in the desert.

It is an easy to moderate trail with nice scenery. I like the changes in elevation and the greenery in the lower parts with a creek running through. I recommend going early in the morning.

Great trail that's easy to get to. Good amount of parking. As of September 2021 only the first 4 miles are open due to the 2020 Big Horn fire. Still a great hike, while rocky the open part of the trail isn't very strenuous.

Wonderful weather with lots of things to today. Saw a Sahuaro cactus with a rare growth that made it look like the "rock on" hand symbol! Fairly easy trail if you're not an avid hiker with improvements being made. Definitely recommend!

This trail was sooooooo pretty! The views were absolutely breathtaking with the different sun angles & vantage points. No dogs allowed. The trail is not level, lots of rocks & a little bit of climbing. I highly recommend good boots, lots of water, snacks, hat & sunscreen. There is a lot of parking. Watch put for snakes please 🙏

Hiked up to Pima Saddle. Started around 7:15a, was back to the car around 1:30p with a brief break at the saddle to eat and take in the view. What a workout! The first 3ish miles of the canyon is very doable and fun, the trail gets continuously rougher around mile 4, and it just feels like relentless uphill. Any flat feels like a godsend. When it's time to head back down, your knees will be cursing you (I fell once -- loose rocks and soil make it hard to keep your footing and it's so steep at points). This is the first time in my life I've thought to myself "maybe I should invest in some trekking poles". Really just for the way down. All that being said, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. LOVED IT!

It was a good hike but not the best to go in the heat of the day! No shade and a good elevation change right at the beginning. The views are great and the little creek running through it about 1.5 miles in is a lot of fun.

lovely hike especially in spring when all of the yellow flowers are in bloom. There were literally thousands of yellow flower plants all across the trail and mountain side. It was very nice coming to the creek where there was a trickling stream.

Great hike! Beautiful area with water once you get a little ways into it. Perfect for a quick lunch before you head back or go further down the trail.

Highly recommended! Great hike for all levels with tons of running water and in some spots a few waterfalls. You even feel like you're in Narnia in sections!

Beautiful view! Perfect weather this time of year. Not too hot and with a cool breeze. It was in the 50F today and shorts/shirt with a long sleeve cover up that could be taken on and off was perfect. The trail is not very hard but just challenging enough to feel like your getting some cardiovascular benefits. My 10 year old did fine and I saw many elderly people walking the trail as well.

Unsurpassed views of Tucson while hiking this trail.

  • 5/5 Mark S. 2 years ago on Google
This a nice hike but it does require some "backcountry" capabilities if you opt to go all the way into the Canyon section of the trail. When the water is running it is a nicer Canyon to hike than Sabino Canyon. However, be careful when heavy rain is forecast.

Awesome views of Tucson and the surrounding mountains. Beautiful canyon. Nice trail with a steady, moderate slope.

Gorgeous place for a sunrise hike. The canyon is protected from the sun through the morning and a gentle breeze flows off the Catalina’s. Relatively easy hike with some nice easy water crossings when it’s flowing. Great place to take beginners and people from out of town.

Very challenging and long trail. IMPORTANT TO NOTE: the trail is not marked (other than the start). We lost the trail many times when we crossed the water bed. Make sure to have a map or GPS phone to help you get back on it. We went 5 miles out but there was no overlook. Not sure if you go further it does lead to a peak. Very pretty canyon overall.

Great views. Trail is rocky making for a lovely trail run! Cacti were spectacular. Only negative is that trailhead has no facilities. Well marked and signed corridor.

beautiful day, beautiful trail, not too hard and not too easy. Fabulous views up the canyon, fabulous city views of that part of town. Great place to spend time with family, nature, mountain views.

Very nice trail. It had rained recently and we didn't have much time so we didn't make it to the top, but we enjoyed the cacti and the view of Tucson.

A neat little trail with some great desert scenery. There is a drinking fountain at the trailhead as well as free public parking. No toilet facilities in the area, so make sure you are prepared for that. We went in the heat of summer, and would recommend lots of water. Have fun!!

Nice moderate trail, lots of large rock and some manuervering to get through the canyon. Where your boots and come early to get your trail run on! Large saguaro cactus and white tail deer. ?

Excellent trail. No dogs allowed. Bring water no matter when you go. Be aware it is rocky and has some elevation changes especially at the start. Consider it a moderate plus rating. Good sized parking lot but no facilities

Excellent hike. Moderate complexity some areas pretty Rocky. Wear appropriate shoes and bring water. This is an out and back hike, mostly singlewide. Crosses the creek in many areas and rocks can be tippy and slippery. Be sure of your footing when crossing. Be sure to look up from the trail and take in the expansive views and wildlife.

beautiful, saw a coatmundi recently. sometimes the gnats are pretty aggressive more than other nearby trailheads for some reason. Really don't appreciate the Jehovah's Witnesses harassing us at the trailhead-- I wish they'd learn to keep their narrow hatred to themselves.

This is the trailhead for hiking in Pima Canyon the trail opera Pima Canyon is very clearly marked in quite scenic running in the Canyon bottom for a long ways. At the beginning of the trail there are houses but soon you pass into the more wild area with many many saguaro cactuses. Get to this trailhead early for a weekend hike because it fills up and parking is rather difficult once the lot is fall
