Ohhhhhhh my goodness!! This is definitely a hidden treasure! We happened to be in the area and thought we'd give it a try. I've had pasty's before from another local restaurant and these blew that place away!! The outside was so flaky and delicious. And, the insides were equally as fantastic! We even bought frozen ones to take home for dinner next week. The girl working was great. Super friendly and helpful. She said the owner is in every day at 3am making everything fresh. And, you can taste it! Highly recommend!

Absolutely lovely! Just like nan used to make. Real sausage, special recipe. Comfort food at its finest. Highly recommended. They're well out in the east valley, but worth the trip. They have frozens you can take home and bake, too.

This place is legit. My mom is British and I lived in England as a kid, and I haven’t been able to find food like this since I left. I went in and got a hot chicken pot pie pasty with a side of gravy and it was excellent. I took home some frozen sausage rolls, a scotch egg, and a vegetarian pasty. All of it has been amazing! The only thing was that I thought the frozen vegetarian pasty I ordered was cheese and onion, and it turned out to be a vegetable medley one. No big deal - I ate it anyway and it was great lol. Next time I’ll specify cheese and onion. Another helpful idea would be to give reheating instructions with frozen items. Even a half sheet of paper or a QR code linking to directions online would be great. I was able to Google some instructions so it wasn’t a huge deal. All in all, I will definitely be a repeat customer!

I am in love with the sausage rolls, and the pasty’s they serve here. Found these guys at s farmers market and they just opened their new shop. So now I can call ahead and they get me a roll ready to go. I love supporting local.

Finally checked this place out today and thought it was great. The place is clean and nicely decorated. They make the pasties where you can watch everything they do. They have a neat outdoor seating area. The staff were all friendly. Most importantly, the pasties were delicious. They offer dine in and take out with some pre-prepared items ready to go. Sort of a neat find in a shopping center I would never have guessed would have such a good spot.

I often try new food out at local eateries. Today, I experimented with an English food called a Cornish Pasty. The location was called Sonson Pasty Company. I was delighted. A pasty (said "past-ee" with a soft "a") is a pastry filled with a meal, in this case meat, potatoes and possibly other vegetables, or cheese. The pastry dough shell is baked in the oven and provides a wonderful tasty and flaky shell to your choice in inside meats and more. The small food kitchen is located just north east of Recker Rd and Brown Rd in Mesa. The business area/strip mall is sparsely filled so you should just head to the north east area of the parking lot to find it. Inside is a small shop with a half a dozen tables and a counter serve area for purchasing your food. The walls are decorated with paraphernalia from the Cornwall area of England and the hosts/owners greeted me warmly when I entered. When you order a pasty, you decide if you want steak, ground beef or pork (they now have a new chicken pasty as well) and cheese if you wish. They add in potatoes, rutabaga and onions. The entire pasty is wrapped completely in a beautifully flaky and savory pastry shell and baked to perfection. The pasty often comes with a gravy to top it off (wow!). A pasty will run you between $8-10 and it is truly a meal. They even have veggie pasties if you call ahead, for those wanting veggie meals. I really enjoyed my first encounter with a pasty, and with the staff at Sonsons Pasty Company. Julie, the proprietor, was kind and answered all my novice questions with grace and a smile. Something great to try. If you've never had a pasty- go get one at Sonsons Pasty Co. I will return!

Today was my first time ever visiting(my coworker found their ad in the Clipper), and the experience was amazing! The staff was extremely friendly, and the food mouth-watering. Perfectly flaky and buttery crust, and the filling inside was perfectly seasoned. I will definitely be returning, and will recommend to everyone I know!

First time eating here and it was great. Talking to the nice lady behind the counter this place has been open for 4 years. It's one mile from my house and I've never seen it before. They need to do some better advertising so more people can enjoy these pastys.

I grew up eating homemade authentic pasties. There's also a few other places in town that do a pretty good job making pasties. I tried 3 different ones from Sonson's and was very disappointed. Way to much salt, there's something off about the dough, and they simply did not taste that good. I very rarely write a bad review but quite frankly I feel that their food is an insult to my heritage.

I had really high hopes for Sonson's. My sister-in-law flies in from Fresno a few times a year and we always like to find British food for her since she was born and raised in England. We arrived on a Monday around 11am. There were 4 ladies working on making the pasties. They were not welcoming, and when we would try to start a conversation with them, they were very "short" with their answers. None of them had a British accent, so assuming none of them were the owners. We ordered, and when I ordered the one I've been dreaming of (cottage pie), they were out. We told them we'd wait, but they acted like they really didn't want us to wait and made us feel like we had to make another selection. We then asked for a sausage roll, something my sister in law was super excited for, and were told very abruptly that they were only available frozen, not sold freshly made. She was very disappointed, so we bought 2 frozen to make at home. Finally, they seemed annoyed that we would be dining in and not taking it to go. They have 3 tables inside, and alot of tables outside with umbrellas, but none of the umbrellas were open. Cute outside area, though. Overall, the taste of the pasties was good. But the experience was enough to make us hesitant to ever return.

Took almost 2 hours to get our food. Ordered online at 11:10 AM for pickup at 12:10 PM. At 12:20 PM we finally got through the line and was told that our food was never cooked! Our online order went to their SPAM folder and was never processed (yet, they got the money). It was then going to take another 20 minutes to cook our food. The pasties were decent, but nothing special. They taste like Marie Callender's frozen pot pie. First and last time we will go here. Not impressed.

Clean store, fresh tasting food. Having the chicken pot pie. Only problem is it’s too salty. Salt is good and gives food flavor but they can reduce it and it will still taste good and even better. The price is also high given the actual content in the bread. I probably won’t be going again.

Was bringing a family member, as I had bragged about a place that had pasties ~ such a disappointment. The place was empty. . . devoid of any atmosphere. . . . . . and product - as was reinforced by the lone employee when we were trying to order ("I think I have one left, but it will take time to cook it . . . " among other 'negative' comments while we tried to order lunch to eat on the premises) After waiting what actually was not an unreasonable amount of time for our Cornish Cheezys, we had to ask for utensils, and napkins. We sat outside and soon realized we were eating raw ground beef, and questionably cooked sausage. The lone employee had little to say other than "I'm sorry, I've never had that happen". My family member insisted on speaking to a manager/owner by phone, and after a brief conversation got a refund, as neither of us could eat the food as it was prepared. We did enjoy the pineapple cake we had ordered to split for dessert. The manager/owner did state that the oven was new them, but I don't know if I'll give them another try anytime soon. Too bad this location was so lacking in appeal. Even though the outdoor dining area with picnic tables and umbrellas was somewhat inviting, the interior seemed more like a 'take and bake' rather than a sit down lunch spot. Perhaps expanding to a second location was not in their best interest.

It was my first time here last week and I had the Steak and Cheese Pasty. OMG, it was so delicious!!! The filling was very flavourful and the pastry was light and tasty. I'll definitely be going back!

Pasty was ok. I have two to try on a later date. I did buy the take and bake ones. The sausage roll was really good. Don’t come here thinking you’ll get anything close to what Cornish Pasty in Mesa has.

I've been even getting pastys here ever since I heard about Sonson's 5 years ago. I recently ordered a few of my favorites and was disappointed in the steak pasty. Something has changed with the prep and/or recipe. Way too many onions and they were stringy. Potatoes were sliced super thin and I thought they were onions. The onions stole all the flavor from the steak unfortunately. I hope they go back to the way they made them when I first came here. Other pastys were really good-Chicken Pot Pie, Cheesy and the breakfast pasty.

Update: I contacted the owner as she requested on here and she offered a refund and followed through on her offer. I appreciate her making things right. The owner was very nice and for that reason I won't write the place off completely. The flavor of the pastry and filling was good, it just needed more filling. perhaps I just tried them on an off day. Thank you to the owner for fixing things. Stopped by for lunch to go. There were hardly any hot pasties to choose from, so we got 2 hot and 1 to bake. The potato and onion pasty was very dry and had way too much pastry and not enough filling. The flavor wasn't horrible if you could get enough filling in each bite to actually taste it. It wasn't very fresh and at $8.50 I don't think it was worth it. My mom got the philly cheese steak but she said it tasted like chicken pot pie for $11. There was hardly any meat, just mush inside. We also got a carrot cake which was also dry and tasted a few days old. The person at the counter was nice enough but seemed extremely nonchalant and had to repeat my questions to the other person to get any answers. I used to live in England and really was craving a good Cornish style pasty, this was not it unfortunately. $34.11 for 3 pasties and a carrot cake that I could have purchased frozen from a grocery store and gotten a similar flavor for a lot less $$. I would not recommend it.
