The Mermaid Restaurant

Restaurant

🫤 Would not recommend. We arrived at 12:20 and the restaurant was not busy at all. Ended up getting our food (1 app, 1 fish sandwich, 1 virgin cocktail) 30mn later. I would normally don’t care but we happened to have to be somewhere else at 1:30. Dessert menu looked appealing but we did not order fear... People often mention restaurant, service, good, burger,

Would not recommend. We arrived at 12:20 and the restaurant was not busy at all. Ended up getting our food (1 app, 1 fish sandwich, 1 virgin cocktail) 30mn later. I would normally don’t care but we happened to have to be somewhere else at 1:30. Dessert menu looked appealing but we did not order fearing it would take another 30mn. Food was alright but overpriced. I ordered conch fritters ($17 for 5 small fritters) and my husband ordered a mahi burger ($20 for subpar fries and dry looking bun). The open kitchen makes it loud when you sit on the deck. The staff was friendly enough but service wasn’t outstanding. I also think the fact that sending the waitstaff refill water and send food to guests on the beach contributed to the slowness or the service. The view was nice however and the Virgin pina colada was good.

Our best dinner was our last here at the Mermaid on the 4th of July. The food again was masterfully prepared. There was fire dancers to entertain everyone in this beautiful open-air beach-side restaurant. Reservations are a must since it fills up quick.

We had a great experience here. Server was attentive, food came pretty quick, great view, and food was the perfect portions. Walking distance from The Buccaneer

The view was awesome. The service was average. The food was ok. They advertise some food that was only available 2 days a week. Crab cakes and a specific dessert were not available. Huge let down.

We tried to have lunch here two days ago and had the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. We waited over an hour for our food, when others around us were being served. Our waitress disappeared for long stretches of time, reappearing with vague excuses every now and then. Once the food finally arrived, it was mediocre at best (fries were good, fish so overcooked it was inedible). Drinks arrived after the food. We waited 15 additional minutes trying to track down/talk with the manager. When she appeared, she did offer a discount on the (very expensive) meal, but no apologies or explanations. We will never go back there, which is a shame because the setting is very pretty.

A quiet weekday dinner in the off-season with amazing food and fabulous service right on the surf. What more could you want from a relaxing date night. The white meat of the chicken was a little dry, but the cream sauce solved that.

The onion rings!! Try them, they were the first thing I tasted, and when I did I realized what a good chef they have! You could bite thru the ring and it was tender and cooked perfectly. The glaze was so good, I have never had anything like them. Everything we ate was so good we kept going back. We stayed there at the Buccaneer, and I was surprised, some of the best food we had on St.Croix came from our hotel. They have excellent chefs!!!

The bartender was sooo nice !! We ordered our drinks, made sure we liked them before we paid, and was overall super pleasant. She was the beach server as well and went extremely above and beyond.

The service was like inexperienced high school kids working there first job! Food was fancy and tasteless. If you wanna burn money go ahead! Your better off with a frozen dinner from Pueblo! The desserts were the only ok thing there!

It was some of the worst service I’ve had in a long time. It took an hour to get drinks and one water refill. Our food came out partly correct after over an hour wait. Also, on this particular night it was the only restaurant open and had a $49 fixed menu. Want an appetizer and drinks? Sorry. Fixed menu. You get about 4 entree choices. That’s it. You want some conch fritters before your meal? Sorry no. Your options were shrimp (for $45 cmon), steak, and fish. Want a burger? Nope, salad? No. It’s also an open air restaurant so it gets pretty warm at times with no breeze. It’s giving COVID. One restaurant open and you have to pay $50pp. It was a bit laughable. Then for it to take over an hour. Made us agree we wouldn’t be back to this resort.

5 of us gathered and enjoyed a great dinner during Caribbean theme night. Some Moko Jumbies, DJ, local vendors and some fantastic food. The burger I had was fantastic and best I've had on the island. Added grilled onions, mushrooms, jalapeños!! Conch and jerk wings are great also. My wife had the jerk chicken dinner which was also delicious. Linda and Teresa were wonderful to have as our servers and the gentleman who was the host was great also and very friendly. Look forward to returning.

The food is some of the best I've had in a while! I had the conch fritters, salmon and the chocolate mousse cake, all of which were delicious. The fritters were not greasy and were the perfect starter. The salmon was also wonderful, especially with the sauce that it was served in. The chocolate mousse cake was also some of the best cake I've ever had in my life!

Food was quite terrible. For advertising local fish and shrimp, there was no awareness of how to cook seafood. The fish was dry and leathery, the shrimp had zero flavor. A very disappointing overpriced experience. Don't waste your time or money. The Monday fire show was subpar, still shocked the concierge recommended this.

The view is not too shabby ;) food is amazing. We enjoyed catch of the day, fries, and the delicious house burger. All to die for.

Not sure why this restaurant only shows 4.2 stars. Maybe because it's nestled in a resort? But the wait staff here was friendly and the grilled Mahi we had for lunch was excellent! It came with fried plantains and a very light, flavorful coleslaw made with yogurt. We would definitely return!

We came to The Mermaid during lunch hour. Even though we had reservations they weren't busy at all. We were seated right away next to the beach. Their menu had plenty of options to choose from salads, sandwiches to burgers. I didn't order a regular meal since I wasn't too hungry but, I did order the Conch Friters appetizer with a Mango Smoothie. The Friters are basically radish sprouts with cilantro aioli. It was ok. My bf, on the other hand, ordered a burger with fries and the portion was quite big. He didn't end up finishing everything, although, he looked content. Overall, the food and service was ok. Our waitress came by a few times but, it didn't have the same welcoming vibe nor the same level in taste of the food as the other restaurants we've been to on the island.

Came here on two occasions. Beach in front of the restaurant is gorgeous and well kept. Crab cakes at the restaurant have a lot of flavor and were our favorite dish for food here.

😠 The entertainment was great don’t get me wrong. However, the service and food was the worst experience we have ever had. We had reservations at 6:30 and we’re sat pretty quickly.
