We just revisited. Our first visit was in May of 2022 and generated the review below. Returned this week in August 2023. Not nearly as impressed. First of all....the only thing you're gonna get to order before 1PM is chicken. No ribs. No pulled pork. "It's not ready yet." Secondly, the flavor of chicken rice and beans and salad just kind of lays there. Reminded me of hospital food. Very bland. No spicy salt, etc to dress it up w. They did offer tiny portions of habinero sauce that was just hot w little flavor. And it is difficult to get the lady at the cash register to give up any salt or pepper. We all felt they were loosing their MOJO. An unremarkable dining experience this time around. ================= They nail it. Nail the atmosphere. (Fun, clean, easy) Nail the service. (very polite and helpful). Nail the friendly bar service and selection. ...... and Nail the FOOD! This 60 year old said it was the best tasting smoked chicken he has ever had. And I've spent 3 decades around Texas BBQ pits. To sum up...We've been on island for 5 days and nights now. Only two places we've been to qualified as a MUST HAVE and must take new guests to. La Reine Chicken Shack is one. Oh...and as folks go on about the Johnny Cakes....the sweet potato dressing is Amazing! Don't leave w out trying the dressing.

Always good food! I had the Chicken soup and Johnny cakes pretty sure the soup dumplings are from the same batter, it was a delicious soup. Last day on island we got the Roasted Chicken, Mac and Cheese, Potaoto Salad and Beans. We have been here multiple times two years in a row and food is always great.

A popular grill and bar with a picnic vibe and lots of outdoor seating. Food focus is roast chicken and BBQ. Our friend and local of the island for 40 years said “This is the best place for lunch”. I am a Georgia native and know chicken cooking pretty well…and La Reine knows what they are doing too. However, the premier dish for us was the Johnny Cakes. What magic do they use for that slightly sweet fried bread flavor? Expect lots of locals, working crews, and the National Guard enjoying a meal at La Reine with you.

I wish this had 10 stars. If you are in Saint Croix, run don't walk to the Chicken Shack. It was worth every penny!! I ordered the 1/2 chicken and 2 johnny cakes! 😋

I had roasted half chicken with a side of mac n cheese and a cup of mango habanero sauce. The chicken was juicy, falling off the bone and had plenty of flavor. There's a bar area then a seated area to eat food. The menu is limited to whatever is left for the day. The half chicken was about $8 and the side of mac n cheese was about $4. Portion of chicken was good the side could've been bigger but was enough and taste pretty good. I would definitely recommend a visit if you're on the island.

Simple and fast local fare Food- simple delicious home style. Ask for the spicy sauce for extra kick. Not overly seasoned. Ambiance - road side stand. Outdoor seating. Casual. They do have running plumbing in bathrooms and keep them clean. Many locals and tourist. Cost - a little pricey for road stand, but the specials are good priced. They take credit cards, but begining April 15, 2022 they will charge credit card surcharge. Service - you order from the counter and they call your number. It was pretty fast to prepare despite a long line. We were easily able to find seating.

The food was delicious, and the rum punch was my favorite. Johnny cakes, chicken and rice and beans were outstanding. The ladies bartending were so sweet. Very clean bathrooms. Relaxing atmosphere with outdoor seating.

The BEST chicken we tried on the island. This chicken shack is well known on the island and people highly recommend it to us. When we got there, the hype was no joke, from smelling the chicken cooking to the nice bar area and friendly staff, it was an amazing experience! Definitely a destination to go! The chicken was very juicy and full of flavors! The rice was amazing too and the Johnny cakes were very unique to others I tried on the island. You will probably see a line to order food, but don't be afraid, they are pretty quick on taking your order and get it ready, if you are impatient, maybe it is the heat, go ahead and drink something at the bar they have a big selection of non alcoholic and alcoholic beverages! They have an indoor and outdoor seating area so you can choose whatever works best for you. I will be dreaming about this chicken and sad that I will not be able to have it till we come back to USVI. Overall an amazing experience and I'll highly recommend it 🔥🔥🔥

Very delicious and juicy chicken. I suggest ordering the chicken with rice, and beans ($15). Go to the bar, order a ting $3 and relax and enjoy the yumminess. You walk in, walk over to order, sit and listen for your number. You can take it to go, or sit and dine. It IS outside, but the flys weren’t terrible, annoying though. An additional pro they have a bathroom! (For all the hand washers out there). Pretty good seating, and again… delicious food. Also, this is the 1st time my boyfriend has had Johnnycakes, he was enamored. Lol, understandably so though. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious I definitely recommend.

This laid-back roadside shack is a must-visit. If you ask anyone at any time (which we did) where's a good place to eat they will say La Reine Chicken Shack. On the first day, I had Snapper in coconut sauce. On day two I tried the meatloaf. On day three I had the roasted Chicken. All meals come with red beans, rice, and garden salad. Conch salad is only available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. I love conch salad, but I wasn't a fan of the way they prepared it. The atmosphere was good. Lots of people coming and going. You can call ahead and place a to go order. It seems most locals use that option. It has a full bar and plenty of seating.

These must be the most hydrated chickens walking this earth they're so juicy! For only $10.50, I got a meal big enough for two. A half of a whole chicken and two big, fluffy Johnny cakes. When I boarded my plane my La Reine chicken filled the air with deliciousness. Well me and the guy next to me. He went by before he boarded too. Excuse the photo, my greedy niece smelled my chicken and wanted some too. Stupes!

Roasted chicken good. Mai Mai was a little dry. The atmosphere was island bar room. The bar bill was not itemized. Mac and cheese was OK. Beans were poor. Good selection of beer. Music was too loud. Service friendly and polite.

Local food was incredible and flavorful. Best food during our stay. We went during dinner so they were busy but we didn't wait long. It definitely had a St Croix vibe and it was neat watching the locals interact and enjoy each other. Service was pretty typical for most interactions with locals not friendly but not rude. My impression overall is locals are not huge fans of tourists- I wouldn't be either. Definitely a must do though!

La Reine Chicken Shack is a good eat near St. Croix airport. For those craving rotisserie chicken, this is the place on the island. Today's special was a plate of half chicken, 2 Johnny Cakes, a side of plantains and a side of macaroni & cheese.

Wow, ya can’t get better than this! Rotisserie chicken and plenty of sides to choose from. If you haven’t eaten here while on vacation then discover where the locals eat! We visited three times in 10 days, from chicken to meatloaf, yup even Ribs! The Chicken was the best of all and staff was quick and friendly! We will be back again! Bring some wet wipes because it won’t make it back home, my daughter ate in the car on one occasion and the other times we enjoyed the picnic tables and chowed down!!!!!

This was just random, we googled a place that made Jonny Cakes and La Reine popped up. The amount of people they service its amazing they can keep up with quality. Johnny cakes are made to order and the chicken is awesome. We came back the following day and on our way to the airport we stopped for fresh johnny cakes

Very popular restaurant with decent food. The smoked chicken was tender and flavorful and came with rice, beans and a salad as a side. The roast pork was also good and came with the same sides although you could substitute a Johnny cake for the salad. The bar area was packed and the dj kept Latin music playing for the patrons. I took one star off because we had originally ordered a rib platter then sat down to wait for it. 15 minutes later we were told there was no ribs. We ordered the pork instead then proceeded to wait another 10 minutes for our food the come out. At around 4-5pm on a Friday, this place is packed with many people waiting in the call ahead pick up line and walk up line. I'd suggest calling in your order 15 minutes ahead of time, there might be less of a wait.

👍👍 The service, food, and cost are just as stunning as the sunset view. My only disappointment is that I had to leave Kansas City to have the best filet I’ve ever tasted. The service is impeccable. If you’re on the island for vacation and want a romantic dinner, this is the place.
