We stayed here for 5 days. The service was terrible because they were short staffed but they also had layoffs and half capacity so why layoff when there's many patrons like myself wanting great service on their vacation that they paid their good hard earned money for. The room they originally placed us in was terrible because the view we paid for was ocean view and we got a view of seaweed and the beaches were unacceptable due to the stench of rotting seaweed which smells like something died. We also has an Infant with us so we didn't want her to be upset with the smell as well. Besides we didn't pay for a view or vacation beaches filled with seaweed but they failed to mention this when booking after all they want customers. The hotel charged us unexpected fees which wasn't posted on Expedia in which we booked from. The hotel charged us for government fees and cleaning fees in which our room was cleaned 1 time in 5 day's but they charged me for every day. What a rip off, we definitely won't be going to St. James club ever again. We're used to great welcoming service when we arrive at the hotel we should be greeted with a drink and a concierge for luggage but instead we did it all ourselves. I've been to plenty of 5 star hotels and been greeted well and the service was above expectations but not this place. If they would've been transparent with the fees and the seaweed then we definitely would've went somewhere else but instead they kept it a secret and surprise you with hidden fees. The room I was in was the only thing worth it for us because it was spacious for an Infant but it was a bay view and not the ocean view but they also said it was an upgrade to not refund any money since we paid for a ocean view.

What a lovely hotel resort!! Can I just say that I had a fabulous time. The rooms were spacious and had a lovely view. The staff were all so lovely and accommodating. Had no issues whatsoever! Surprised to see some negative comments but you’ll always find something if you go looking for it I guess! So we were welcomed with drinks and water. Got a buggy to our rooms and luggage dropped off. Breakfast was nice everyday. Options for vegetarians were a bit limited but not end of the world. The 3 places to eat all exceeded my expectations. I’m usually skeptical about all inclusive meals being a vegetarian but this resort were able to accommodate. We also put in a request for some special Caribbean meal and the curry and roti was amazing!!! Best I had. Shame I didn’t get anyone’s names. But everyone has been so lovely and nice! The bay beach was nice! Plenty of sun beds and space and the bars made some awesome drinks!! The baileys coffee at the 24/7 hut was so good. And the cold drinks were great! Loved everything. There was a lot aqua aerobics everyday and a lot of other activities for everyone to get involved in. The water sports was so fun loved that it was all included. Some areas I found the service was laid back but that shows the difference in a hectic life and a chilled one 😅 I would certainly come back without doubt! What a fabulous trip. Thank you and thank you Antigua 🌞🌞

This is a beautiful place (Antigua) that sadly fails to be supported by a well run resort. There’s “island time” then there’s SJC (St James Club) time. In addition, the facilities are as lack luster as the service. We checked in to our 2 bedroom to be treated with an overwhelming smell of urine. It took cleaning and maintenance a couple hours to show up after the complaint to which they told us it was resolved. When we returned to their room, needless to say, the old fraternity house bathroom was still in play. We asked to be moved which to no surprise took an entire day. Luckily we could pass the time at the beach. The new room was fine…. Management was not. The time challenges for this resort hold true across every aspect. More so when ordering drinks and food. On two occasions of ordering lunch, our server (after waiting 15min+) decided they would go on break after taking our drink and food order. We found this out the first time after going up to the bar to fetch our drinks. The second time… well shame on us. Oh and the spa…. Ah the outdoor, refreshing spa. Between the jackhammer maintenance and their kids pool next door we could barely hear the gentile spa “tunes”. Would have been nice to be advised of the noise issues but should have expected as much after our room and food issues. Antigua is beautiful. The zip lines, diving, activities options (sans spa) are wonderful. Would highly recommend staying at another option versus St James Club.

The resort is incredible. The waiters and waitresses are really nice, definitely deserve tips. The views in this resort are outstanding! The beaches are really calm and hardly packed with people. There are a couple of swimming pools but sadly are not suitable for diving or jumping. The food here is amazing there are lots of vegan options and meat alternatives. Sometimes the food is late to be delivered to you’re table but the taste definitely makes up for it! There are many fun things to do here like paddle boarding, kayaking and catamarans. My personal favourite thing here is asking someone who works here to drive you somewhere in a golf buggy. There are also fun activities to do like 8 ball pool and tennis and lots of others. Amazing resort!

Great place to stay In Antigua. Service was good and lots of activities planned. The location is good except the ocean there is filled with seaweed that has dropped to the bottom in the sand making the water look yellow. I feel like that could be cleaned up a bit. The all- inclusive package was great but daily offers were often not vegetarian friendly. Their themed nights had good options and was very fancy (3 courses). Staff was super friendly and we made some great contacts there. It is an older resort but I would say go there and stay! Sports included pickle ball and a fully equipped gym plus many non-motorized water sports.

Had a terrible experience with having this resort return a personal item to me that was left at the resort. The staff is incompetent. The rooms are updated and comfortable and the food was very good but the pools are an absolute joke. They are small (the biggest and best (if you will) is something you'd expect to find at a Holiday Inn, rectangular, nothing exciting). My Wife and I never even got in a single pool if you can imagine that. We had a very nice couples massage but made the mistake of not asking how much prior (my bad) and were shocked when we were presented with a $443 bill! There's no ATM on site and they charge 10% to advance money to you. The beaches were virtually empty (we were there towards the end of peak season). One beach on the harbor (inland side) and another on the ocean side. The ocean side beach was so windy that nobody was there. And please don't think we just hated Antigua. We loved the island away from this resort. The people in general are kind and go out of their way to make your trip great. Just do yourself a favor and stay at an airbnb or another resort so you don't experience the nightmare we did.

We visited the St. James Property twice about ten years ago and decided to return here for a ten-day holiday. We stayed in the beachfront Papaya complex because we love the pretty view of Coco Beach from our back door. When we checked into the room there were several issues with the back door and room safe, but these issues were resolved the following day. Our room number door plaque is very difficult to read, especially at night. My husband was really looking forward to using the pedal board, but was very disappointed that they all needed repair for several days during our stay. Once they were repaired, he had fun on them. The food is OK but nothing special at any of the restaurants. The buffet meals always had a variety of selections, and I was always able to find something good to eat. We had to wait over an hour to get a mediocre salad and sandwich at the Eleven 11 restaurant, so never ate there again during our stay. The bakery Cafe has nice coffees and very addictive baked goods! 😋 Most staff here are very pleasant, helpful and friendly, so that is a plus. The cost for this all-inclusive holiday package was quite expensive, especially with the extra hotel fees you pay at check out. Part of that fee is for room cleaning, yet the room is cleaned only every second day! Hmmm. All in all, we had a very enjoyable time here and would return. 😀

Wonderful location, but currently dealing with some staff issues so some services are suffering. They will fix these things and definitely recommend coming here or any of the Elite Resorts. You will find Pickleball being promoted as well!!

The staff is super nice but they are pretty uninformed. No one knew where we could eat or what their hours were. They don't have a system for payment besides through the all inclusive system. I would not recommend charters for anchoring overnight.

Food Good food enjoyed all of it but disappointed with the lack of actual carribean food. Stayed for 12 days and there were 3 Italian nights..... Drink Great options with everything avaliable but lacking a cocktail list of hotel specials or inspiration! Staff Mixed bag, some of the staff were really friendly chatty and helpful. Others were rude and only interested if you were heavily tipping them. Dane (Jacanda bar) was the worst for this. Pool Nice but the main pool was very loud all day long with pumping tunes. Smaller pools better but for the size of the resort not enough pool space. Views at the pools were blocked by walls and roofs. Evening entertainment Good mucians and bands, however all of the guests seem to disappear by 9pm so not much nightlife! Rooms Everything you need, but not cleaned to the highest standard. Beach Two beaches were nice setting and good views. However the seaweed issue is a real problem for the resort, one of the beaches was closed when we first arrived. The staff worked hard to clear it but it is a real problem. I would stay on the West Side of the island if visiting antigua again. Overall we had a fantastic week at the resort, if it wasn't for the seaweed and the grumpy bar man we would visit again.

It's the lies for me!  After a long-awaited two-year hiatus, we finally resumed our annual family vacation. Today is our second day at St.James Club Antigua, and let me tell you, I'm over it already. It's a group of 21 of us, and we paid $500.00 per night for beachfront rooms, which in the description offer beach access from your patio. When we arrived, the beach was COVERED with seaweed. We were told multiple versions of why one side of the beach was covered with seaweed. "oh, they clean it every morning, and it comes back, and there is nothing they can do because it's mother nature." We were also told that a storm brought the seaweed. Regardless of the reason, they were all unacceptable answers. The manager on duty, Khadija, said that she would email cooperate and have it cleaned up in the morning.  The cleanup crew arrived around 6 a.m. and began cleaning up the mounting of seaweed. First forward to 2:00 p.m. we were told that they would move our room to an ocean view and it's an upgrade. As the oceanview rooms were not beach accessible, I asked if we could stay on the other side of beachfront resort that was beach accessible and no seaweed. Ms.No name tag and a bad attitude at the counter said that the villa was in a different category and they were completely sold out. - mind you, it's the resort's slow season and empty. We also offered to double up in the villas—still nothing. Fast forward to 5:00 p.m. My niece's bathtub in her room was leaking. Ms. Monique came and found us on the other side of the resort with no seaweed, a good ways from our beachfront rooms, and informed my niece that they could not fix her tub and that they would be moving her to a two-bedroom villa. Let's back up; just three hours ago, all the villas were sold out. Now suddenly, a villa is open. How sway? All of this could have been avoided. Apparently, this is seaweed season. It would have been helpful had we been informed of the seaweed and the inaccessibility of the beach. At that point, we could have decided to change resorts and or upgrade to the villas before arriving.  Even today, instead of lying in our damn face, they could have offered us villas at an additional cost, but instead, we got a suck-it-up buttercup! It's the lies for me!

I really loved my time at the St. James!!!!!! The staff was excellent. I met a lot of cool people Michael, Orlando, Dane, Brittany at the 7-11 restaurant, and the Lueellen (I think I'm spelling it wrong) from the dockside restaurant. The staff in the little store was friendly and sweethearts as well. The hostess at the breakfast restaurant (I didn't get her name) seemed very serious at first but she was a sweetheart. She really looked out for me!! The front desk LOVED them. They were the best. Keana made sure I had a very special birthday surprise at the seafood restaurant. Gabby was my tour guide on the Pink Panther, and she was excellent. I had a great time and will return to hang out with them again. I loved the grounds and all of the pools. Of course, the seaweed made the beach a little yucky but I'm more of a pool person so I was fine and that is something the St. James can't control. I'm a walker so moving around the resort was no problem. Sometimes I caught a ride on the cart but most times I walked. Antigua the island was very cool. Shirley Heights was fun and beautiful. I loved the steel band. My only complaint is the taxi costs OUTRAGEOUS!!!! All in all this is a wonderful place. Thank you, St James, for make my birthday and vacation wonderful!!

The accommodations were great. The staff was not very friendly. There was always at least one restaurant closed, so the food choices were limited. The soda is water downed. The sunset cruise and the snorkel excursion to Green Island were fantastic. The crew on the boat was fabulous.

Just finished my stay here in Antigua, I don’t really have anything overall nice to say about the resort. Staff have a poor attitude and fail to say hello to you when you pass them in the hallways, staff will stare at you in your face like you’re an extraterrestrial being, the transportation buggies take ridiculously long to arrive to your location on the resort. I don’t understand the point in having one person to cover the whole resort!! Clearly an issue with short staff, Rooms are meh, nothing special to say about them and the service is terrible. Staff move slow to tend to you in the restaurants, you will ask them for something then will go and start another task completely forgetting about you, ontop of that you will ask a waitress to call you a buggy and she won’t even call because when you go to reception asking if they received the call they will say they haven’t received anything!

  • 1/5 Plygrl 7 months ago on Google
Genuinely confused on how this place is rated a 4.4. The wait time for the transportation buggy’s is ridiculous. There are multiple buggy’s parked out front at the reception but only one of them seems to be doing rounds. There is clearly an issue with the place being short staffed. I’ve just finished eating in a restaurant and asked if the waitress could call me a buggy to get back to my room, I’ve since been standing in the hot sun for 20 minutes how ever I’ve seen the buggy driving around empty. Get this! Staff will also jump on the buggy whilst you’re on it. I just think it’s so unprofessional and rude.

Our 4th day of 6 total here. Resort is nice. First resort we've ever been to. Area is nice and secluded. Location is nice for the right person. If you're wanting to disconnect and not do anything but eat and get tanned, this place is it. Beach is a 3/10. The ocean side was riddled with Seaweed. They're solution was to have a person pitchfork it out via manual labor and shovel it onto an ATV. It is not feasible for 1 or 2 people to manually shovel the amount of seaweed the ocean brings in to clear it for the resort guests. They need to bring in a boat to help clear it all so it can be

This Hotel is definitely 5 star . From the moment we checked in we have been had the most amazing time . We got a room upgrade provided by the hotel as we are on honeymoon . Cannot fault anything about the hotel. - staff friendly and professional - Room facilities excellent - facilities at the resort are first class . - great beach front location. Whoever is the manager at the hotel should be proud of the the team they have put together. So many good things about the hotel that I could type for ages. Look at the hotel website if you are thinking of staying in Antigua and want a first class hotel . I would highly recommend Saint James Club and Villas.

The resort was lovely. For the price, the service needs to step up. Some of the staff was rude when service or asking for service. I travel with my wife and kids all the time. We are used to being treated well as soon as you arrive at the resort. They had one person checking in people at the front desk with about 10 or more guest waiting with no drinks offered or cool towels to wash our faces. They need to train the staff better, most of them of attitudes when you ask for a drink or activities.

I recently came back from a wonderful holiday at the St James Club and Villas. My friends and I had such a good time. The food was amazing and there were lots of good water sports on offer. I wanted to say a mention to a few of the staff who made our stay extra special. Dane for the entertainment and great cocktails at the bar, particularly going above and beyond for my friends wedding. I'd also like to mention Keana and Rowena for the amazing service and for the birthday surprise they put on for my friend. Would definitely go back.

Terrible We checked in and checked out the next day . The place was so outdated The pools where small The food was like eating in a cafeteria at most . Don't be fooled by the reviews You could not even walk out side at night without having to cover your nose from the SMELL of the bay yuk!!! The beach was gross It had seaweed everywhere. Would not recommend Sorry this review is so harsh but when you think your going to a 4 .5 star property and its not , people should be informed that it is not a pictured at all .

Is there zero stars? I am currently at this hotel due to flight cancellations. If I could rate this place a zero I would. The rooms are not clean. Their is mold rust around the sinks in the bathroom. The cook at dinner was not wearing any kind of face covering or gloves while he was serving hundreds of guests. He was sweating profusely over the food. Their was NO SANITATION of his hands whatsoever. The noise level is unacceptable. The band is beating drums and playing loudly. If you are looking for a disgusting party resort then look no more. This place left a bad taste in my mouth for Antigua.

First the seaweed was in force with a smell we could not use the beach, the rooms are cleaned every other day and not very well, The cuisine could have had a little more flavor food was not good but tolerable. They charge you to be a tourist additional fees they add on a charity without your permission to your card, after you have paid everything you are still charged a resort fee 24.00 daily. Someone wanted to watch the NBA FINALS AND WAS TOLD NO THE WHITE GUEST WOUD NOT LIKE IT. NEVER GOING BACK PREJUDICE IS REAL

Just got back after 5 days at St. James and can say enough about our experience. We took a family trip with 12 people ranging in age from 4-62 and everyone had a fantastic time. Let’s start with the water sports venue. Great people, fun lessons on hobie cat, plenty of equipment and the most helpful people around. Every morning after breakfast we headed there and it began to feel like home. They remembered what we liked and had it ready as we were walking down! We had 4 beach front rooms and they were so spacious. Our view every morning was of the ocean. Kudos to the people cleaning the seaweed each morning. We went snorkeling every afternoon and it was beautiful thanks to those workers. Sitting on our balcony every evening was pure bliss! Housekeeping was great, keeping 12 active people stocked with towels was no easy feat. We ate in all the restaurants and had no complaints at all. They were able to seat all 12 of us together and they were exceptionally attentive to the kids. Food was very good and fresh, especially breakfast, and we had a wide variety. Believe me we tried everything. Special shout out to the people in the coffee shop, so pleasant and accommodating. I think we left some pastries for the next guest. Thanks to the staff at St. James some incredible memories were made. Trust me we WILL be back.

This place is ideal if you just want a chill holiday - the facilities are excellent with great tennis and pickle ball courts and one beautiful beach (the other is unusable during summer due to sea weed) - so don’t stay near coco beach due to the smell. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the rooms are great with an excellent buggy service, especially for the disabled. The restaurant is mixed - great breakfast however, the dinner can be very mediocre especially at the docksider. Also, just a warning the coke tastes like watery acid. The hotel is excellent overall with great facilities, staff and beaches.
