Loved seeing the beautiful historic buildings & the boats so close by. A fun place even just to walk around and see everything. Next time we will check out the museum and the bakery!

Good site to learn some history about Antigua. I suggest that you manage your expectations. It did not have much to do once there beside check out the small museum, some gift shops and food places. It is a very beautiful view though.

Beautiful, historic location in Antigua. The museum, restaurants and gifts shops were amazing. Bought some good local rum and souvenirs. The yachts moored there were awesome. Our group spent some great time walking and taking in the beautiful sights.

This was a very enjoyable place to visit to learn some of the history of Antigua and see the old architecture of the time. The grounds and buildings are well taken care of and it was very interesting to explore the grounds. There are many historical facts posted throughout the area so you can learn the history behind Nelson's Dockyard as well as what the buildings were used for in the past. Also, the plant life is beautiful out here and it is almost like a botanical garden as well. This is a nice place to visit that history buffs and non history buffs alike will enjoy. It has something for everyone. The scenery alone is beautiful and there are many photo opportunities out here.

It will take only 30-40 minutes to see museum and all around the place. Take some fresh buns in bakery. Hike to Fort Berkeley there are beautiful views there.

This is a great place to learn about the days of international shipping and trade, and the sad story of how slavery played such a large part. The buildings are well restored and maintained, and really give you a sense of what life was like back in the days of wooden ships sailing the Caribbean.

If you are a lover of history, then Nelson's Dockyard is a wonderful place to visit. Staff guides are knowledgeable about the dates of construction, materials used, uses of the Dockyard, and human stories from the time period. Informational signs and a museum share details of regarding the historic use of each building (including the infirmary where the sick were fed mercury as a "cure"). Food, beverages, and souvenirs are available for day visitors. The dock yard also sports an inn with hotel rooms for a more personal experience. Nice views of the harbor and defensive fortifications that still remain.

A must see in Antigua. Fantastic place if you wanna know more about the history of the island. The entrance ticket (15 USD) allows you also to go to the other 2 locations (Shirley heights and the museum) within the same day. Within the port, there are some taxi drivers that can take you on a quick tour around for 20 USD (cash only). The people working over there are really polite and friendly.

This is a must see when visiting Antigua. Beautifully maintained 200 year old military base, situated on the picturesque English Bay. A short guided tour provided a real sense of life here at that time.

Must see destination. Can be busy if the big boats are in town but worth a trip. Great museum full of info, short guided tours available. Hike to the fort if you have time. main site is fully accessible. Plenty of historical interest, tonnes of gift/souvenir places and also bar/restaurants. Whole site is clean.

We visited by boat and then came back to visit on land. The history is so interesting here!! Due to being a part of a tour, we only spent about an hour here, the first 25 minutes or so spent with an employee who walked us around and explained the history, this was very interesting. I could have spent a few more hours here, so this could definitely be a whole day visit if you wanted. Different vendors with lots of cool souvenirs if interested.

It's amazing how many of the original structures have been preserved. A tour would probably be the best way to get value for money out of the visit, but you can wander around the buildings reading about life in the dockyard 200+ years ago! The museum is a small, but interesting walk through the history of this World Heritage site

I great place to look back in history. Very well kept with lots of information regarding the 1st british sailers to dock at the island. We went on a Sunday and purchased ticked for Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley Heights. Really good day out to do both. If you are just visiting the Dockyard only you need a couple of hours. I would personally come here rather than St John's if I only had a few hours on a cruise ship.

Fabulous, a living museum. Learned a lot, about the history of my own country as well as Antigua.

It’s a neat place to walk around with an interesting museum. If your in the area for a few days they will validate your pass for several days so you can return and use several other national parks.

This ticket is worth it just for the lookout you also get at Shirley Heights. There's a museum and you can wonder around the docks and the old buildings there. There is parking, but it's a small lot. Most people seemed to come in their big taxis (we came in on a quad).

I really enjoyed this historical dockyard with lots of unique little shops all around the the port and the tour guides are very friendly and helpful with any questions you might have! Take a couple of hours to really enjoy this beautiful place and get to know its history!

Very interesting place to visit, very historic. So much history attached to this place. Lovely old buildings, looked after and kept in very good condition.

This was a nice place to walk around and learn a bit of history while you’re at it. There are boats, restaurants, vendors, shops, a museum and a hotel. The view is also really nice but they get better when you venture outside of the dockyard and into the other things that your ticket/entrance fee covers.

The dockyard is so interesting! I love the history here and all the old buildings are so intriguing. I guess I'm used to the way historical places are handled in the States so I was really disappointed with this place. There were several places with construction going on so there were wood piles laying around and obstructing the view of some buildings. Cars were coming and going all over in the walking areas. The old buildings were being used as current businesses so there were several you couldn't go in and see unless you were a patron of that shop. The information boards and museum were very helpful and informative, but the entry fee seemed a little steep ($15 pp for one day access). Parking was pretty adequate but there are a lot of buses and taxis coming and going for the cruise people. I recommend going here because the history is amazing and old buildings are beautiful, but if you don't expect US standards, you will be pleased.

Beautiful and interesting visit in Antigua. Historic location combined with views of mega yachts. Go up to Shirley Heights also for panoramic views.

When you pay for Nelson’s Dockyard, don’t forget that you can also visit the Blockhouse, Shirley’s Lookout, and the Interpretation Center on the same ticket…makes it all much more worthwhile. Nelson’s Dockyard is a beautiful place where you can enjoy the scenery, fill your belly at the restaurants and bakery, and spend your money at the shops. There is a lot more there than what you would originally envision.

This is a must stop if visiting Barbados! They give you a brief (10 minute) overview, give you some rum, and then set you free to explore. It was fascinating to see how they tilted the ships sideways to scrub off the barnacles! Be sure to check out the museum. Unfortunately the bakery was closed the day we visited but it came with rave reviews so I guess we will just have to go back *huge smile*
