Even though the trail going up to the fort isn't the best, it's totally worth the short hike to see this gem! The 360 view on top is amazing and the fort is incredibly preserved. Very cool. PS, snorkel the two sunken boats in Deep Bay. They are very cool, too.

This was a worthwhile hike. It was probably a medium level hike. The terrain is steep at times with areas of gravel and dirt. Wear solid shoes, take plenty of water, and take plenty of pictures. The old fort is creepy in places, with the dark remains of an old cell. The views are tremendous.

Very steep to go up and scary to come down make sure you have good hiking shoes on and water. Once on the top, it's a beautiful view. Fun hike but according to my galaxy watch: the entire hike is about 0.78 miles. So if you were looking for a long hike, this is not it. But it is a challenging hike in terms of weight control.

Yeah, I made it 90% of the way. I definitely wasn't about the climbing, "stairs", that weren't really stairs but were stairs at one point and were now smooth paved stone. I watched people crawl on hands and knees to reach the top. It's not for the faint of heart. Even if you don't make it all the way you'll still get the beautiful views.

Steep hike to the top but it's worth the climb. You will be rewarded with the best view ever. There is a little island at the back that is worth checking out. Enjoy!

The view from the fort is incredible and breath taking you can judge by my own pictures. I am not a very good photographer but the landscape does it all by itself. The colours are amazing you can see a big portion of the island from up here. The water is very clear. I suggest to use Google maps as it is not very easy to get there. The road is ok is not too destroyed but you get to a point where there is a bridge you have to park the car there and then follow the path by foot.

This is a super interesting and accessible fort ruin. It’s definitely steep and possibly slippery going up, so good foot wear is essential. Great view when you arrive at the top and the pathway that goes down the opposite side of the slope has magical butterflies at this time of year.

If you're in the area and up for a little adventure, it's worth climbing up the hill to check out Fort Barrington. It's only a short walk up the hill, but is slightly challenging as there are no path / step, but there is a rope to help you up the steepest section. You're going to need proper trainers / walking shoes, and I would avoid if it was wet or looks like it's going to rain. It's worth the climb though (as you can see from the photos) and you can see all along the West side of the island. There's no information or signage when you're up there, so if you want to know more about the history of the fort, do a little of research on the internet beforehand.

Great views of Deep Bay and Galley Beach. The hiking trail to the top can be tricky, some severe drops and loose surfaces along with steep sections. The views are worth it. The powder stores are are in really good condition, the guard room is fairly inaccessible except for the foolish/gung-ho brigade.

My wife and I hike up the mountain to this fort. It's a steep climb up the side of a mountain with no clear path up. The fort was never taken care of, there are tours (dont pay for them) we walked up for free free and there's like 3 buildings to see. Beautiful view of the island and st John but don't come if you want alot of history

Easy hike from the Royalton Resort , which took about 25 minutes to the top. On the top, you get a great view, and if you go with a guide, learn about slavery and what went on at the fort. The fort is open, so there is no entrance fee or anyone telling you where to go, you are going at your own risk , at the bottom across the small bridge there is a area where you can park and go to the beach or fort. Please take back whatever garage you bring with you. It is a shame to see a water bottle along the route

Very nice view from here! Not very busy and impressive little fort! Parts of the way up to the fort are hard to get up to and there is a rope that u can use to help u pull yourself up, so it’s not very good for older people or disabled people. You have to be very careful on the way back down from the fort so that u don’t slip! But overall very worthwhile visit!!
