Highly impressed with the ability to explore this fort. Seems many become a tourist trap and you can only see the remenants from afar. The cannons seem to be in excellent shape, many walls & some buildings are still intact. Might want to use caution if you walk in. The Visitors Bureau or a Historical society should step up & install some interpretive signs/map so tourists like me know what we are looking at! Beach was also fantastic.

There are other more famous historical sites in the island. Fort James was an interesting place to find. Out sat nav didn't know the roads so we had to follow our instincts. Beach was popular on a Sunday. Fort and cannons are free to explore. Views are stunning out over the water and bay.

Wonderful place to catch a sunset. As for the beach... Amazing. Yes there are days that are a bit "wavy", mainly during hurricane May-Nov. On a typical day the water is clear enough to see to the bottom, and there is little to no drop off when walking into the water. Great place to hang out on the beach with friends or to take a swim for exercise.

The area has great views and old canons to look at but the fort itself is a mess. It’s not very well preserved and there’s trash everywhere. It’s a shame but outside of that I enjoyed walking around.

The view from Fort James was beautiful. And was neat to see the canons. Though it's a shame that there is so much trash inside the buildings and that there's no effort to preserve them. If in the area it's great for quick stop and beautiful view. I wouldn't recommend taking a walk down to the house on the property. Aside from trash, there are the "leftovers" from drug use all over the ground. Don't walk the area without shoes, and don't allow children to run around either. It's a shame there's so much trash, and this place isn't better preserved. The view is beautiful.

Super cool fort that has not been fixed up a lot. There are some buildings that you should not go in as the floors may collapse. But way cooler than a fully rebuilt Fort

As all the forts we visited in Antigua, it looks missing love. You can find cannons and the structure but is missing sings indicating a little bit of historical facts.

Fort James in Antigua is a remarkable historical site, offering a blend of scenic beauty and rich heritage. The well-maintained fortress provides panoramic views of the coastline and St. John's Harbor. Visitors can explore the cannons, barracks, and other remnants of the colonial era, immersing themselves in the island's history. A visit to Fort James is a rewarding experience for history lovers and those seeking stunning vistas in Antigua.

Worth a short visit, then head to the beach next to the fort. The structures were not preserved and are coming down. The cannons are impressive and the views are great of the harbor and ocean.

Neat fort but it requires some maintenance for sure. The views, ruins, and canons are great, but there is no signage or information on its History. It is a great place to visit and then take a dive in the water at the beach next to it.

Very interesting 18th century English Fort, unfortunately in slow decay. There are few cannons still present and the view from the fort is beautiful. Unfortunately is not well kept and there is overgrown vegetation. It is worth a visit, though.

Nice cannons. Not busy. Intriguing in its mainly ruined condition. Worth a quick stop if you are nearby. Free, no ticket required.

Clearly, there is a lot of history here, but no effort has been made to preserve or explain its historical significance. Some simple information boards would help the public to enjoy and appreciate the Fort.

Nice views. Some impressive canons. But there is no information regarding the history of the fort to hand which makes it somewhat disappointing. However, there is a nice bar nearby which helped.

The place is beautiful. The fort is abandoned and free to enter. The views and the atmosphere are great. Lots of greenery, the unreal colors of water. It could be a wonderful tourist attraction if it was looked after a bit more.

I think it may be better during the day! I attempted a sunset tonight, definitely not a great place for it sadly

Very interesting location, not had any refurbishment work done apart from storm roofing. Original 24lb guns still in place. Eerie sense of what once was, protecting empire and the trade routes, poignant reminder of the evils of the slave trade.

This is a nice break from the monotony of sitting on a beach. Interesting to visit but obviously, it's the remains of a bygone era so don't expect much more than the photos. The water and view is amazing though. What was also amazing, despite the very intense sun, the cannons themselves were very cool to the touch, so shocked at this. The nearby Fort James beach is also a must visit while here, it's one of the nicer beaches on the island

Amazing experience. While the area is not well maintained, the authenticity of it is incredible. The cannons, rock walls, old homes and fall apart structures give it such a real feeling when visiting. Just down the road is the Treehouse where we had lunch, which is also an absolute must do!

Historic fort guarding the entrance to St John's Harbour. The canons seem well preserved, the buildings less so, but never the less the place generates an atmosphere, and has lovely views. Well worth a quick visit. Wonderful beach close by.

Fort James is a fort at the entrance to the harbour of St. John's, Antigua. The fort was built by the British in the 18th century. It's located on a headland overlooking the town northwesterly. The main attraction today is the excellent view of the surrounding harbor.
