Beautiful place near Rhumerie de Chamarel, about five or six kilometers towards the Grand Bassin. 50-70 meters from the road and you will see the world from a bird's eye view. You will see mountains covered with dense green forest with magic waterfall on the right side. If you are lucky, you will encounter monkeys on the observation deck. Between the parking lot and the observation deck, you will pass local souvenir dealers. I am not a big fan of buying souvenirs in such places. But here you can bargain a little and you will buy a good product for a very reasonable price. 100% recommend!

Great view opens up over a vast valley! Easily accessible by car, has a parking lot and is just a short walk from it to the viewpoint. Most of the time you will find a bunch of monkeys at the viewpoint. Souvenir sellers are always there too. Parking lot proximate to the start of the hike up to Mauritius highest peak.

Truly stunning!! The view is really great. In addition, there are a number of monkeys running around and being amused, but please be careful not to feed them. Otherwise you will immediately be overrun by the pack. There are also small souvenir stands. Card payment is also possible!!! More progressive than Germany! Magnets cost just under 50 rupees, the equivalent of just under €1 (price value). Otherwise, a high spot in Mauritius :)

Perched atop the lush landscape of Mauritius, the gorges viewpoint presents an awe-inspiring panorama. It's a place where the vast expanse of the jungle unfurls below, offering a stunning view that encompasses the distant ocean, cascading waterfalls, and the verdant beauty of the Mauritian wilderness. This viewpoint isn't just about the breathtaking scenery; it's also a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. The parking area nearby is a hub of activity, frequented by numerous wild monkeys and their adorable offspring. Observing these creatures in their natural habitat is a delight. They scamper about with an air of freedom, their playful antics a joy to watch. However, this natural paradise comes with a note of caution. Visitors are advised against feeding the monkeys. Such actions, though well-intentioned, disrupt the delicate balance of nature. Feeding leads to dependency, with the monkeys gradually losing their innate skill to forage for food independently. This dependency poses a risk to their survival in the wild, altering their natural behaviors and interactions. Thus, while the gorges viewpoint offers an opportunity to marvel at these fascinating primates, it's crucial to respect their natural environment. Observing from a distance ensures both the safety of visitors and the well-being of the monkeys, preserving the unique ecosystem of this stunning Mauritian treasure.

Came here by accident on route to somewhere else. Amazing views over the area. A few stalls selling souvenirs and an ice cream van. Toilets as well. Plenty of parking which always a bonus.

The viewpoint offers a spectacular panoramic view of the endless green stretches. On the right side is a breathtaking waterfall. the viewpoint Located in the heart of the island at the Black River Gorges National Park is an ancient primaeval forest, famous for being the home of endangered species such as the Mauritius Falcon. The best part about the park is the surreal view of this green island from the Gorges Viewpoint. During the 1970s, the place was a picnic spot for the local families. Over the years, with the increasing popularity, it has become a commercial tourist area, and apart from that, the area has been modernised to enhance the experience of the visitors

Actually a very nice viewpoint, but it was closed today (December 20th, 2023) and a ranger was standing by to send everyone away again. There is a small parking lot about 200 meters further, from here a 15-minute tour starts through the forest (over hill and dale) to the viewpoint. If there is no ranger in sight, you can walk on it, otherwise you will be sent away. But you can still take very nice pictures along the way. The path starts on the left at the parking lot and is a bit bumpy at the beginning. But it's getting better and we walked it with flip-flops without any problems.

One of the most beautiful viewpoints in Mauritius. You will often meet monkeys nearby. it's worth having a few bananas with you. At this viewpoint you can also buy the cheapest local souvenirs in Mauritius. As an island guide, I know what I am writing. I especially recommend the lovely sellers at the first four stands, honest, hardworking people.

This viewpoint is truly breathtaking the world almost falls from beneath your feet. You stand on what feels like a massive drop, ofcourse you are very safe. The view here seems soo rugged and prehistoric with the dense bush all around. Standing at the viewpoint, you have a beautiful panorama of dense vegetation rock outcrops, waterfalls, and wildlife flying around really a great place for easy access but spectacular views.

Amazing spot when passing by the area. A short walk from parking leads to a beautiful scenery to the walley and the ocean beyond. You might encounter some monkeys along the way, so be prepared!

Our first visit here was spectacular, the view is one of the best on the island. But this time we returned on a day when the weather wasn't so great and the view was completely covered in cloud and mist 😪 We did still find a few little gems though the lillypads were in flower and there was a small cascade flowing with all the rain from beneath the view point.

Gorge View point in Mauritius offers visitors a breathtaking vantage point that overlooks a deep ravine with lush green vegetation and cascading waterfalls. As a nature lover, I was instantly captivated by the unspoiled beauty of this spot. The panoramic views of the tropical landscape provide a serene and relaxing atmosphere for nature enthusiasts, photographers, or those seeking a peaceful getaway. The viewpoint itself is well-maintained and easily accessible, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. The elevated platform allows visitors to fully immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature and truly appreciate the island's natural wonders. However, it is important to note the presence of macaques in the area. While these playful monkeys may seem charming and friendly, feeding them poses a significant danger. It is strongly advised to avoid feeding macaques at Gorge View point, as it encourages their dependency on human interaction and may result in aggressive behavior. Although macaques are part of the local wildlife, their reliance on human food can lead to territorial disputes with other macaque groups, posing a risk to both the animals and visitors. Additionally, their close proximity to humans raises the potential for injury, especially if they become food-aggressive or display protective behavior. To ensure the safety and preservation of both visitors and wildlife, it is crucial to respect the guidelines set by the local authorities and refrain from feeding macaques. Enjoy the natural beauty of Gorge View point and the majestic scenery it offers, but always remember to keep a safe distance from the wildlife and appreciate them from afar. Overall, Gorge View point in Mauritius provides an exceptional experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers. Just be mindful of the importance of maintaining a respectful distance from the wildlife, including the macaques, to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.

Great view, nice way there. A winding, well-developed path through the jungle leads to a kind of pass where you have a wonderful view over half the island. Green jungle covered hills with the Indian Ocean in the background, beautiful!!!!!!! Wild monkeys and many birds can be seen on the short path from the parking lot to the viewing point. Small snack bar and clean clos next to the parking lot. The route is the goal……..

We visited this location on the island tour. It's 100% worth a visit if you get a chance. It's probably a 15-minute visit at a minimum. If you're into photography, you'll be in your element. You'll see paradise birds, bats, and monkeys.

Awesome view and a nice place for a walk in any weather conditions. Be careful with the monkeys they can be angry and please do not feed and keep the nature clean

Insane view over the Black River Gorges. There is a clearly marked car park and even some touristy shops. Definitely worth to plan a stop here. This place is also the starting point of the hike to Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire, the highes mountain in Mauritius.

I was there on two days because it rained the first time and everything was in fog or clouds, which gave the whole thing a mystical touch. The second time I had a perfect view, which is very beautiful. The only negative point is the salespeople there, who were very pushy and vehemently wanted to sell something even if you said no

  • 5/5 Navresh K. 2 years ago on Google
Amazing view of Les Gorges from the viewpoint. Can even see Paille en Queue birds flying. Fantastique view of the distant mountains. On 27.02.2022, the weather was cloudy and thundery. I could see how it was raining at a distance where the clouds formed from the viewpoint. It was spectacular.

Great place to visit with interaction of wild animals. However there are few people, local and foreigners who ill-treated these animal and authorities don't do anything.

  • 5/5 Amogh T. 4 years ago on Google
The view from this point is simply amazing. You see so much greenery and mountains its difficult to believe hot are in such a small island. The Sea which we see in the distance just adds to the charm of the place. A must halt place in the Black River Gorge trail to view and click pics. The weather was very windy and cold on the day we visited

Overcast and rainy when i went but amazing views. Works love too see without the rain! The monkeys can be a bit feisty so probably not good to entice them with food!

Amazing view point discovered by chance. Great view and a nice brake on a quite boring road. We say at least three waterfalls, maybe a small fourth one. Don't forget to look for people picking the guava fruit along the parking area and road close by.

When you are at the right place at the perfect time. No bright sunshine yet its not dark either. Its not freezing, yet not chilling. The romantic atmosphere. The little bit of fogging adds up to it. You love nature You need calmness. I recommend this place

  • 3/5 Manuela S. 1 year ago on Google

  • 5/5 Tadas T. 1 year ago on Google
Even if there is not very much to do, but the view is outstanding. You can sit and stare at the mountains for hours. One of the few most beautiful viewpoints in the island.

Stunning views from this point which is between chamarel and Aleksandra falls. There is ample parking available and also some small shops seeing souvenirs. The highlight of course is the view and the easy access. Worth a quick 20 min stop if you are traveling through this area. Word of caution: don't feed the monkeys! 😬😬

  • 5/5 Anna R. 1 year ago on Google
AMAZING! On a rainy/foggy day you may not see much. Wait for a more clear day/the rai to pass and the views at this viewpoint are unbelievable. Free to enter and good amount of parking depending on the time of day you visit. We visited around 10am on a Monday after it had just rained and there was no one there. We went somewhere else and drove back through and the parking lots were full with taxis. There are some stalls to do some souvenir shopping and a food truck for light snacks like chips and drinks. Bathrooms on site are decent. Bring toilet paper.

  • 5/5 Mick Davis (. 11 months ago on Google
Fabulous views from the cliff-top wall over a sprawling valley, waterfalls, emerald green jungle and even a few waterfalls too. A great stop in itself, or also on the way to/from Chamarel GeoPark. A small local market is set up for tourist trinkets of all types, plus some limited food options. Lots of (hectic) parking as well as maintained toilets.

  • 5/5 Nini E (. 10 months ago on Google
It is beautiful and free. To bad some people leave trash. The monkeys are picking it up to lick it/ put it in the mouth.
