If you’re going to celebrate your anniversary or honeymoon at this hotel DON’T. We stayed at the hotel for two nights to celebrate our anniversary which we mentioned on the booking but they didn’t really care because nothing was done or offered from their part, the only good thing about the hotel is its view and the room decor. There isn’t much to do there, since the hotel is on the mountains and the hotel doesn’t have any fun things to do, most places/activities in Mauritius close around 6pm so you would be stuck at the hotel with nothing to do until the next day. There are no spas or any other amenities at this hotel. As for the cleanliness of the room I wouldn’t call it clean at all because the day of our check out I found a dead lizard behind the curtains and it looked like its been dead for over a week before we even stayed at this hotel and when I mentioned it to one of the receptionists she didn’t even apologize for that. The staff at the restaurant are either ignorant or pretending to be, my husband ordered well done boiled eggs for breakfast and they were clearly runny, so the waiter came and when my husband asked him, “is this well done?”He says “yes” and leaves. The service in the restaurant is poor as well as the breakfast options and taste. Breakfast and dinner is extremely bland and not edible. The only reason why you would eat is because you dont want to starve. The waiters give you a vibe that they’re just waiting for you to finish your food and leave the restaurant so that they can close.

Only positive is the view. Staff is not attentive. Food was poor. No options from a la carte available. Little anecdote from our dinner during New Years Eve there: the waiter dropped the dessert on me. While mistakes can happen, I never got an apology. Bringing this up during check out, the manager didn’t come to see us, he only communicated via the front desk manager. It’s simply a money machine.

View: amazing and probably the best of the island, but on the other side: Food is terrible, disgusting, lack of flavour, very few options (main course just 3 options to choose from) and the rest of the options you have to pay a crazy amount extra. Chalet looks beautiful and has a lot of room, but we had to kill at least 10 cockroaches a day. Bed is way too hard, wich was a downside. We also had a talk with some of the guests who claim their valuables were stolen by the staff, even an engagement ring was taken. Last but not least is the service, some who work there are nice and friendly, others just ignore you. Even when you thank them when they take your plate, they just look angry at you. A chalet that is this expensive, it's just not the quality that you expect, especially the food. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy...

Breathtaking views The chalets are spacious, clean and nice interior decoration Friendly and helpful staff Inadequate parking facilities The access road is quite small and is impossible for 2 vehicles to cross each other. The road condition also is not good.

This place is just awesome and the views are killing. The chalets are comfortable and big. Had a great stay, nice staff and very good food.

The view is beautiful but the location is so bad. It is very difficult to reach to chalet and nothing around you. You need to take taxi for 20mins drive to go to any supermarket or pharmacy. The food in the chalet is below average. However, Ms. Vedna who works at the restaurant is so friendly and helpful. I will give her 5 stars

I had booked one night and it was dispointed for me. The staff is annoying so much they stear at us all the time like you are not welcome in here and this is not good at all. Another thing about this place is the food is very specific only two dishes without chang and the amount is a little. Even the telephone at the room is not working even i asked the reception and they told me the maintenance are coming but i guss they lies even don’t know anything literally you should ask the reception. One day is more than enough for this place. One more thing, they dont have laundry service and the wifi is very poor and the TV is not working.

Best place to relax and enjoy a view from the top of the mountain on the sea and the sunset. We booked this place on our last day in Mauritius, and I recommend that to relax!

The staff were so kind and friendly and they were treating us like we are staying at their own houses. One of the best places I’ve ever been.

Magical place and amazing views, however I would rate the customer service 1/10. First time here was great and had a great service however it seems it got worst with time. I was looking forward to have another holiday and was very disappointed. They never get back to me to inform whether they had availability or was fully booked.. tried to contact them by mail and FB, they didn’t get back to me. Now it is the only memory i keep from this place, disappointing.

The accommodation is beautiful and the views are breathtaking! The staff are also very welcoming and professional and organised a dolphin tour for us last minute which was amazing. Unfortunately we had a couple of negative experiences as well: (i) Some cash was stolen from our room through a door in the shower which has potentially been left open by the cleaning staff. Although the manager said he would investigate the situation, we never heard back. (ii) The food options are limited. Although the food is good, a lot that was on the menu was unavailable during our stay. One time we asked for an item and were not told it was unavailable but simply brought a different dessert without anyone asking which other dessert we would like instead. Would still visit again but hope that these kind of issues are not experienced by other guests in the future.

Great location, better go by 4x4 or suv, rough road from chamarel to the lodges. Need more variety on the menu.

This is probably one of the best views on the planet for a relaxing holiday, Recently returned from this beautiful, relaxing place. Most people only stay for 2/3 nights, some only stay for 1, we stayed for 14! I really don't think that you can appreciate the tranquility and beauty if you are only here for a very short time. It is the perfect place to really de-stress and get away from everything if that's the sort of holiday you want. All you can hear are the birds so if you like wildlife you will love it here. The chalet was gorgeous, no sign of bugs of any kind the whole time we were there, as mentioned in other reviews. There is lots of choice at breakfast, fried/poached eggs were undercooked but that's the only negative. Menu at dinner a bit limited because of the supplements so only 3 main courses to choose from without extra cost, this was sorted straight away by the hotel manager Danev and they made us something different every night. The staff are terrific, attentive but not intrusive. Thank you Danev for the lovely food we enjoyed and thank you for making my toast on our last morning! Dhalida and Vanusha at reception, thank you for the regular phone calls Dhalida, much appreciated. Chanesh, Veona, Prshtina (hope your leg is better) and Kenevisson in the restaurant, I hope I have spelt your names correctly. The housekeeping teamAnesha, Brayana, Benedicth and Samantha, thank you for looking after us so well, we loved the little surprises you left for us on the bed and on the television. Thank you also for the gifts you gave us and good luck with the baby Anesha. The whole team, from the bottom to the top, does an amazing job and we will definately be back.

Superb mountaintop chalets, imbedded in nature! We had a great stay for our honeymoon in May, we were treated like king and queen by a very friendly and welcoming staff. Particularly Dany and Vedna from the restaurant and Dalide from reception. Highly recommend! (Book only if comfortable around nature and its many creatures and sounds ;)

My wife and I visited Chalets Chamarel recently for three nights. We arrived during a torrential thunderstorm in the dark after travelling for 23 hours from London. We were soaked through and exhausted. On arrival the Chalets Chameral team were just brilliant. A warm welcome from Dalida on reception checking us in and making sure our bags were taken to our room immediately so we could shower and relax. The following morning we woke up to clear skies and a view of what could only be described as a natural paradise. What made it particularly special was the fact that it was also my birthday, something the entire team seemed to be aware of. Our first full day we spent enjoying a fabulous breakfast, getting familiar with our surroundings, enjoying our huge chalet (No.8) and spending time by the pool. The evening was topped by an excellent meal at the restaurant which included a couple of special birthday treats provided by their excellent chef Christine and the Restaurant Manager Dani...who prepared for me probably one of the best coctails I've ever had...thank you Dani!!! We encountered what could only be described as tremendous first class service throughout our stay which was topped off by Christine cooking us a fabulous seafood salad (completely complementary)as we waited for our taxi to transfer us to our next destination. Thanks again to Nitin, Christine, Dani, Dalida, Shanesh, Pravesh and the rest of the team for letting us experience this little slice of heaven!! David & Rose xx

Have been there in November 2022: this is a very special place in Mauritius inside the national park with the famous seven earths. We had a rental car and driving the very small path for 1,5 km uphill was a little bit frightening (thank god no car was coming down at the same time). However when you succeed you're rewarded with a fantastic view and a cosy welcome. All the staff was really nice and great (btw we experienced this with all people in Mauritius). Because of the family atmosphere, you are always immediately served. Room, breakfast, dinner - everything was great. However bear in mind that you're on a small mountain, so the evenings are colder and more insects are seen (however no mosquitos in the room and the bed was protected with a net anyway). We stayed for three nights as a start of our Mauritius vacation and moved on to two other hotels at the beach. So this was a nice start.

The place is very quiet and nice. The chalets were very pleasantly furnished and clean. For the breakfast there was not too much choice but in overall it was fine. For the dinner great local and tasty kitchen. The view from the terrace is unbelivable... too pitty there aren´t any sun lounger at chalets for more comfort. Very profit oriented politics which is highly annoying. Drinks are expensive, any additional service are very expensive. Late Check-out overpriced! They even wanted to charge us for the permittion to take fotos of us from a photographer. It was highly dissapointing because we had our honeymoon.

We have absolutely loved our stay here as part of our honeymoon! The food has been incredible and we loved that the small menu size meant that excellent care was put into every dish. One evening the chef even made a special selection of Mauritian dishes which were amazing and made us feel really special and welcomed. It goes without saying that the view is sensational both from the front and back of the chalet! The welcome from reception was lovely and started the holiday perfectly. The staff all round were brilliant, kind and attentive, making it easy to book day trips and making the overall experience ideal. Would also highly recommend the Rochester falls trip, especially if you can book Allen as your driver (the reception team have his contact details). He was so friendly, gave us lots of local advice and overall made the trip awesome. Thank you to everyone at the chalets for your hospitality.

I like the view, the place is very quiet and nice, but I'm really feeling bad because of cleaning, Also the food it was not that much nice. I don't feel like I was welcomed by the stuff, they are not good with the customers, Also sometimes I feel like they are gossip to the customers !! But really if I will return there just because of the view!! There was a lot of insects. And I booked the reservation with dinner and breakfast, but I shocked that they let me pay the drinks, and they said the drinks is not included to dinner !

Worst hotel we stayed in the Mauritius. Although we booked 4 nights with Chalet Chamarel, we left after the first sleepless night. The hotel doesn’t follow through with basic requirements of cleanliness. And what seemed to be a lovely nature stay turned out to be a dirty room with a large window view. Cleanliness We found over 12 cockroaches in our room, several already dead and others we killed through the night. A dead gecko stuck to the bedroom wall showed how the room wasn’t cleaned properly before we arrived. Comfort This was by far the worst mattress my husband and I ever tried to sleep on. The air conditioning and the mini bar were very noisy, preventing us from going to sleep. The fire exit sign emitted a bright light which didn’t help things either. Amenities The pool was out of order. And this was the only activity on site. No alternative was provided, no information regarding the estimated time until it was fixed — but we could see there was nobody cleaning it / fixing it. We were told “It will be fixed tomorrow, but some people have already been using it if you want to go in.” This was not exactly the most reassuring information. Food The dinner was very limited in options and quality. There were two options for starter, two options for main and one option for desert included on the half board menu. All other options on the menu were extras. Having booked several half board stays, we felt that this is very misleading of them. I chose the fish option on the menu and my husband had an Australian steak that was off menu. Both portions were small. Half way through my meal I realised that the fish was undercooked. I had literally just arrived and was very clear explaining I am pregnant and therefore food needs to be cooked through. Regardless, the fish prepared ‘en papillote’ is steamed and should have been cooked through. The breakfast was another disappointment. The fruit on the buffet presented signs of oxidation and was clearly not fresh. The options for fruit were dark apple slices or fermented slices of pineapple or plum. The cereal was stale. All the pastries were hard and slightly burnt. The only thing we could eat was white bread toasted with butter. We asked for an omelette each, it was disappointing in flavour and too much grease. Later that day we both had upset stomachs. It was evident from the other guests that they were incredibly dissatisfied with the service as well. Deceiving stay in the nature reserve There is no shuttle / transport provided on site for the reserve, so customers are invited to get a taxi tour. The prices for these tours far exceeded prices elsewhere. Without any safe access from the property to the surrounding areas, guests are left to stay on the grounds with no activities or options other than enjoy the view or stay in their room. Reviews vs reality We booked Chalets Chamarel on the basis of the great reviews on the Booking.com site. It was only when we delved deeper into the poor reviews that we found we weren’t alone as other guests had suffered similar issues. After complaining to the management and a series of emails to Booking.com we know they won't ever give us our money back.

Pros: Beautiful view, perfect service and great food. Cons: There were 6 cockroachs in the room! ( Room not cleaned properly). Insects everywhere across the hotel since its in the middle of the mountains, limited food menu, very small pool, wifi was not working and slow facilities repair.

Didn't stay here but definitely would, only went here for dinner but it was a great meal and the best view, if you are at the seven sands make a trip up the tricky road and stop off for dinner!

We absolutely adore this place! Minimalistic, quiet, far away from everything - perfect for switching off! Very lovely rooms with tea and coffee. Breakfast buffet nice and simple, delicious lunch and dinner with amazing view. Highly recommended for romantic gateway or solo trip :) Thank you for having us and see you next year! Inka & Dave
