Driving through bumpy roads lead to the temple, near beach. Sand and beach view, good to spend some time near beach. Huge parking area. No other facilities.

Serene.. It's not near the beach.. it's on the beach.. Can reach here via jangaar or by any mode of transportation as there is a road not a paved one. Opens at about 4:30am and you could only do the tieing the bell "മണി കെട്ടൽ" upto 11.30am at the banyan tree - പേരാൽ. ₹30 to do the ritual. temple authorities will provide a small bell to do the same.

Kattil Mekkathil Temple at Ponmana, near Chavara in Kollam District, in Kerala is located in a unique spot – where lake meets sea. The temple is on an island created by the lake and sea. The shrine is dedicated to Goddess Bhadrakali – the Mother Goddess worshipped here is ugra murti. The devotees go round the tree seven times before they tie the bell onto it. At the seventh round, they make a wish and it will be fulfilled. The tree is covered with such bells tied by the devotees, thousands of bells tied up a huge banyan tree on the premises of a temple here at Ponmana. The Kattil Mekkathil Temple at Ponmana has the Arabian Sea on one side and the TS Canal on the other. Kattil Mekkathil Temple is located at a distance of 22 kms from Kollam city.

This temple is an amazing and peaceful one. We went there on a car and we parked the car at a space given. The parking space was maintained very well. There was enough space. We should cross a river to reach the temple. To reach the other side we can rely on a jankar. The temple is stiuatef on a beach which made it so beautiful and attractive. In this temple there is a tradition it is that we can buy bells from the office counter and we should pray well to grant our wish and tie it on a tree. This tradition is followed by all the devotees who visit this temple.

Kattil Mekkathil is a Devi temple at Ponmara, Chavara in Karunagappily Taluk of Kollam, with awesome views of the Arabian Sea and TS Canal. Believers throng to the temple to pray deeply because they believe that when you pray with love and devotion, the goddess would grant their wishes. The main deity here is Bhadrakali, and the locals call her Kattil Mekkathil Amma’.It might be a little difficult to spot the temple when you travel along the national highway, but once you reach the temple you will be struck by the positive vibrations emanating from the place. You will have to take a boat or RoRo services to reach the temple because its located in an aisle. One thing that instantly catches your eye is the huge banyan tree. Called the tree of bells, the tree has thousands of bells around it, tied by devotees after they get their bells blessed by the temple priest. The devotee walks around the temple several times in total devotion and prays for favors before tying the bells. The encircling of the tree is known as pradakshinam. The tingle of the thousands of bells chiming uniformly in the chorus is nothing short of divinity-like feel; it is almost like the Goddess is singing her approval, and assuring her visitors that all will be taken care of.

Unique temple. Surrounded by lake on one side and sea on the other. Even though accessible through beach side via vehicle, best is to come by lake side. There you can get free boat service to reach the temple, one of the best experience. Must visit atleast once in life time. Tie a bell 🔔 and make a wish ❤❤❤ Feel blessed❤

Good temple. We went there on car from TVM. We can reach the temple two ways from a point. Either we can go all the way on road to reach the temple or we can take jankar. I recommend to take jankar(which is free of cost). It could save approx. 15km drive. The parking space is sufficient. We worshipped and hanged bells on a tree, which is a ritual. We returned from temple on a Vallam, which was a good experience. Must visit place.

Kattil Mekkathil Devi Temple (കാട്ടിൽ മേക്കത്തിൽ ദേവി ക്ഷേത്രം) is an isle located between The Arabian Sea and The Backwaters (Kollam - Kottappuram Waterway). The temple was miraculously spared by the giant waves of Tsunami that hit the whole of southern Kerala's coastal line on 26.12.2004. Directions :- 👉 1. While coming from Ernakulam (Cochin), take right from NH66 (just before the starting of TMML (The Kerala Minerals & Metals Limited) compound wall). Proceed towards the Kattil Mekkathil Temple road (narrow but well maintained) which ends at the 'kottaram kadavu' (Kottaram Ferry). Ferry service and car parking is free of cost and is being run by the temple administration. 👉 2. There is one more road connectivity in which there is no need for availing the ferry service. One can park the vehicle in the temple compound itself. For that take a right from NH66 at Laalaji Bus Stop (after Karungappally) while coming from Ernakulam (Cochin). However I chose the 1st option.. Suggestions:- 👉 1. My visit was during the day time (around 11 am), and the temperatures were soaring. Better to visit the temple either early in the morning or late in the evening. 👉 2. There is a beach with calm and low tides. There are some refreshment area side by side which leads to the beach side.

The temple situated on the beach and can be accessed from chavara through a ferry service which is free or by road (a bumpy one) from karunagapally. The main deity is Bhadrakali and also there's a shrine of Durga Devi. People from far off places come here to fullfill their wishes by tieing a bell on the Banyan tree.(മണി കെട്ടൽ) by paying 30rs at the counter. Opens at 4:30am till 12noon and then in the evening at 5pm. The place is divine and nearly maintained. Has enough parking, toilet and local shops selling fancy items. U would have to face a lot of lottery sellers and others asking for money here.

The temple is accessible via road and via boat. We went there by road after visiting Vellanathuruthu beach and it is an almost dirt track from there onwards as it is a mining area of the IRE. The other option is via boat. We can take the vehicle upto a the banks of the canal that seperates the temple's location from the mainland. There is a boat to ferry passengers from there to the opposite bank where the temple is located. Overall the location of the temple is awesome. Moreover the beach nearby provides a different level of calm and peace. This is a must visit place and make sure to go there in the evening.

The purpose of all the major religious traditions is not to construct big temples on the outside, but to create temples of goodness and compassion inside, in our hearts." Good vibe.. The temple is near to kattil beach and people from different district visit here.. either you can go by the boat or by 2 wheeler or car by using other roadway. Usually crowded on holidays. Parking for vehicles is available... A temple you must visit ... Maniketttuu" is special here for your wishes to be fulfilled.. 2 goddess DURGA AND BHADRA are there.. blessed for being there.

This temple is located at chavara. Exactly at the backside of chavara kmml. Sree Bhadra and Sree Durga 2 devi at two different sreekovil. This temple location is also looks like an island surrounded by water. Three sides by lake and wester part is the Arabian sea. The way to get here is by jangar through the lake also is national water way. The whole ambiance at here is very pleasant and beautiful. The pleasant way to vist here is extreme morning or at the evening times. The specialty here is tying bells on the big baniyan tree located here. Daily ponkala is one of the speciality here. Sundays are too crowded.

Beautiful temple located near the beach. Famous for the "Mani nercha" which is a ritual of tying a bell to the big banyan tree at the temple. It's believed to fulfill your wishes. The google map shows a route which is a bit risky. The road was taken away by the sea when we took the route. Had to travel back the whole distance till karunagappally junction and then went to the boat jetty to take the boat to the temple, which cost us another 40 mins.

This temple has pongala (a special offering made by cooking rice and jaggery in clay pot) every day, the goddess is draped with new sacred clothes every day, and the temple conducts 'annadana' (distribution of food) to the devotees every day… Which other temple in Kerala has all these specialities?" exclaims one of the devotees who were crossing over to the temple from Kottarakkadavu by jankar service. Most of the devotees come from southern parts of Kerala. Many people also arrive from different parts of Tamil Nadu including Kanyakumari, Thirunelveli, or Nagarcoil. These days, the fame of the temple has started to spread to other parts of India as well, drawing devotees from more distant lands. The temple is just ten meters away from the sea. Yet, the Tsunami waves left this temple and the surrounding areas alone, giving devotees another reason to rejoice and pray
