We took a Bolt to The Open Air Museum from Old Town Riga. The entrance cost was very inexpensive. There is a gift shop and a restaurant at the entrance area. Come prepared to walk (mostly flat) in a beautiful wooded park on trails between the historic houses & churches, windmills. There were very few people. You can bring a picnic or buy food there. I had the beet kefir cold soup bought from a small snack shop about 2/3 of the way through the park. Good for kids or adults. Very relaxing get away from Riga for most of the day. We arrived about 10:30 am and left about 15:00 (3:00 pm). We got a Bolt back to Riga old town.

Beautiful clean place, plenty of forest where to walk. There are 2 cafes where you can buy drinks, snacks, warm meals. Parking lot for free. Entry 4 euros. Pensioners and students get discount. Dogs NOT allowed and it's great please keep it like this.

(Translated by Google) The large park by the lake is especially beautiful in autumn and spring. There is something to see - old village houses, cages, sheds and even a church. Moreover, the real ones were transferred from real villages. It's a pity not everything is open and partially destroyed, but the tree is not eternal. Entrance 2 EUR.

(Translated by Google) A great idea for a day trip, especially for getting away. It will be very useful for them to learn how our ancestors lived before and how many chores they had to do around the house just to live. The territory of the museum is located in the forest, on the shore of a large lake, where you can have a picnic. And after walking around the museum and in the fresh air, I promise you, you will definitely get hungry. And in the open air, ordinary food will be tastier and more aromatic at times.

Took almost three hours to explore whole area (I might miss some part but try to stick to the map) a lot walking is ahead with curiosity, especially for foreigners. Hundreds of years of history is way closer to you than your imagination. Understanding of four region differences and how they kept continue their daily life routines gave me a different perspective. Absolutely fresh air and feeling that you are actually living in that time span. Worth to visit and spend your after noon but just be sure to not miss places which are open till 17:00 and get a chance to see indoor places.

Big, green area, very close to the city with the lake and a lot of different routes you can take. It's not your typical museum but more of a time travel. Perfect for lazy and chill afternoon.

A must see for anyone visiting Latvia and interested in its culture. The territory is huge so make sure to plan out at least a couple of hours. You can buy coffee there from a coffee machine but I haven’t seen any places with food in case you were hungry.

Beautiful museum, we get there from centre by bus ( took around 40 minutes, but it was full, so it might be worth to find some alternative ) but the museum itself is big and it didn't feel crowded. There are lots of building from different parts of Latvia, but only a few was actually opened, which is a pity. But overall the whole area is beautiful and worth visiting.

A really interesting museum showing how early Latvians lived. I will say they need to work on the signage as the museum is huge and pretty forest-y at points. Also in December there was a winter display at night. During the daytime it was a bit anachronistic to have giant disco balls next to preindustrial wooden buildings.

Great place to spend a whole day outside and enjoy nature with history. A lot of walking, but totally worth it. You get to experience the culture, history of Latvia and the evolution of their architecture. Very cheap tickets for a variety of attractions. If you get the chance to visit the museum definetely do. The public transport from the center of Riga brings you almost to the entrance of the museum.

Great park. Most of the buildings were closed when we went (06 March 2019) but the area is great. It was a cold day and not many people were visiting which was a bonus for us as it was really peaceful and quite a special experience. Quite spooky too. The lake was frozen solid and was very cool to see. The buildings etc, in the setting felt like we were in the setting of the movie the village. I loved it! Also there are woodpeckers around so keep an eye out.

We would love to be able to review this place but less than 5 minutes after we paid to get in, the site director asked us to leave due to high winds and dangerous conditions. We obviously left but there was no refund offered. It was ridiculously cheap anyway so not worth making a fuss over but strange nonetheless as she knew we had just got in and even apologised for us having barely got past the gate.

When you are interested in history and medieval life, this place is a must see. The village is covering multiple epochs with beautiful details. The whole terrain is immense in size, so be sure to bring enough time. The houses are walkable and inside you will find residents in authentic costumes. The place has toilets and and small restaurant with authentic food. It is prepared freshly with natural ingredients. I have to admit the food was one of the best I ever had. A really lovely place.

An extensive open air museum, covering the various ethnographic aspects of Latvia. Excellent to visit on a nice day, especially with a stop at the small cafe. It's not on the map, but it's around no.42 I think (in that cluster, not far from the WC).

Definitely a place to see, little bit out of town but the experience is worthy. You’ll learn about Latvian history with all the regions customs and traditions in this splendid area. The actors are explaining their lives as real characters from history and all the houses are real ones brought to that museum. Besides, the forest area is so big that you can hike, check out different species of mushrooms and flowers, have a picnic, try local food and drinks as well as beer, or a swim in the lake.

We looked at over 100 buildings, some you could enter, took us a few others to see only the most of them. This is not a museum - it's like visiting a few villages where the inhabitants just left. Highly recommended if you don't expect too much interaction and explaination and are happy with just walking around a lot and looking at old things!

Absolutely outstanding. We took the number 31 bus and it dropped us off directly outside of the museum. The staff were friendly and entrance was easy. Make sure to try and visit during the craft festival. This is what we did and the atmosphere was fantastic, with many craft and food vendors to choose from. Expect a lot of walking though! This was a great day out and we spent a full day just walking around. Definitely an activity for a dry day!One thing to note however is that the bus stop outside of the museum doesn't have a machine for purchasing tickets, so we had to walk a bit further until we reached one. For anyone curious, it is an hour and a half walk from the museum into the city centre and is basically a straight path! We purchased tickets in advance online and it made everything extremely easy.

This place is absolutely beautiful, peaceful and well maintained. However, there is this kitty that has a tick, and it hurts her health and I feel very sorry for her. Please, please, if someone with a good heart can take her to a vet, this innocent soul will forever be grateful and you will do such a nice thing. Thank you so much!

One of the best open air museums I have ever visited. The museum gives you a peek to ( historical) Latvian way of life in real. You can travel back in time to the 17th and 18th century Latvia. Special shout out to all the museum workers ( dressed up in traditional costumes) who are placed in many of these structures to answer questions.

We visited museum in Winter. We knew that there wont be lot of open house, we didnt know it will be only 3 open house in all of the museum. In one house there was very rudé old lady that didnt even say hi and when we left she slamed the door. On the opposite, side rest of the staff were friendly and nice. The little caffé was closed.

Visiting this open-air museum was like stepping back in time! I was fascinated by the well-preserved homes, tools, and artifacts that gave me a glimpse into the lives of our ancestors. It's a fantastic educational experience for all ages, and the immersive outdoor setting adds to the authenticity. Highly recommend for history enthusiasts and families looking for a unique outing!" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Short distance from the city. There are a lot of programs offering for the kids and adults. Refreshing. Interesting to view sauna in the old times and learn about the life and different styles building in various regions in Latvia. The restaurant was good. Refreshing and rejuvenating.

Must visit if you have a spare day in Riga. It has to be one of the coolest museum I have been to so far! The open air museum is very well curated, quite authentic and feels like a time travel. The hikes are quite lovely and all the houses and churches are original pieces that were transported to the museum. The caretakers wear traditional clothes which reminds of you of some theme parks without the merchandise and the rubbish. (The entrance fee is really cheap!)

Very cool Outdoor Museum just outside Riga City with buildings, crafts and even a restaurant(check timings) that showcase traditional and old ways the Latvian people lived. Loads of Wooden Houses and walking trails. Note that most of the buildings are closed for the Winter season which started 1-October in 2018.

Great museum to have a walk at. Situated nearby Rīga, but you feel like far away at some forrest. Nice to have a holiday walk even if you have been here couple of times. Due pandemic only some of houses opened to go in, but still you can get coffee or tea outside, and cafe is outdoor, so you even can get fresh air meal.

Amazing get-away from central Riga, while yet "in town". The scenery and the old wooden buildings are simply breathtaking! Some small, some massive, but all impressive! Make sure to get here early though as access into the buildings themselves ends at 17.00 (you may still roam around the area til 20.00 however) and the area is pretty big. I would give it a good 3 - 4 hours to walk around, see most of the sights, if not all, and possibly grab a coffee on the way. Note to self: Most of the trail is sand/gravel so sandals on a hot day maybe wasn't the best option.. ;p

Great open-air museum if you're in Riga fire more than a couple of days. Shows the way traditional farms were built and the way people lived back then. Amazing experience with a wide variety of historical buildings, tools, props, outfits and guides to educate you should you need it. The map is detailed and easy to follow. It does help if you have Latvian to enquire about the complexities of various exhibits but there is good phone signal so you can just use your 4G to Google if you're craving info that much.

An impressive and interesting museum on any day, turned extra special by the yearly crafts fair that gathers the best Latvian artisans in one place. Be warned that during the fair getting lost is rather easy and chances of spending lots of money on truly quality items high (bring cash as only a few vendors accept cards). Outside of the fair the museum provides a wonderful retreat from the city and modern life. Situated next to a lake you will spend your time walking in the forest from one historic homestead to another. The museum staff are friendly, knowledgeable and usually very good at different languages. And if you can make either the traditional fair or the modern makers fair later in the summer I can highly recommend both.

Lovely craft market in July. A lot of walking in woodland. Many old buildings.

Impressive setting, feels real, brings back rural history and lifestyles. Always worth a visit. But bring enough time, two hours will not be sufficient.

It's a nice place to go around and explore on your own. Holding the paper map in hand it feels like a treasure hunt event. It's beautifully maintained, the sheds and houses are in great condition. Washrooms are clean, could be cleaner...maybe. You'll find some restaurants inside, I tried one near the river. Their food was delicious and hygienic ❤️ and u also get a beautiful view to enjoy your meal.

I really loved this. Nice for walks and all the buildings are very cute. It's only a 44 min bus ride from Riga city centre and definetly worth the trip if you can spare the time.

Went during February - most of it is closed. However, €4 for a family ticket, our young children enjoyed the open parts and walking around the forest. We had fun and spent 1.5 hours there. Probably really good in better weather conditions when everything is open. Easy to get to using number 31 bus from the city.

This place is the highlight of my entire Latvia trip. A must-see, incredibly beautiful, not a lot of people there when I went, looks like a good place to picnic

It's really worth visiting :) If you wanna see literally every building here, chill on the bench, you'll spend at least 3-4 hours here. We saw everything quickly in 2 hours. Very beautiful place and low ticket price

Large outdoor museum in a beautiful area with forrests and lakes. You can walk into most of the buildings, it is a great place for walks in a peaceful area. We took the bus from downtown Riga to get there which took us about half an hour.

I had an amazing trip, I could feel the atmosphere of the past – so charming :). Although I went on Christmas Day, quite early in the morning, the snow was cleared, and there were plenty of access roads, so you could visit any of the cottages. That impressed me. Also, I want to thank Georg Kuklis, who told me many interesting things about people's living and different techniques for preparing various utensils. I really recommend visiting this museum.
