Stunning, grand and awe-inspiring palace. The Winter Palace, in St. Petersburg, Russia, is renowned as the official residence of the Russian monarchs from 1732 to 1917. A notable example of Baroque and Neoclassical styles. Breath-taking art pieces and decoration inside. Must see

One word to describe this place - Beauty! From elegant monuments to artistic walls, it's one of the best museums that I've visited in my life. It's so vast that one would need at least 4 hours to completely visit each & every room. There are approx 350 rooms with audio guide & I would suggest to take that for 1000 rubels since it would help understand the art in your local language. Guides are available outside but I would suggest taking an audio guide since some of the guides were a bit costly. The entry ticket needs to be booked online for the museum & it costs 500 rubels. A must visit to this place.

Both summer and winter palaces in Russia you shouldn't miss to visit. Because you'll know more Russian history both of the good and bad sides they used to fail and archive. That's what I've learned because history usually repeats itself as long as human habits have never been changed particularly in Geed and Fear.

What a great museum! To see all of it you might need even 2 days, and probably you won’t still be able to see everything! Totally suggest it but be careful when buying the tickets because each entrance brings you to a part of the museum and you’ll be able to see only that part

The State Hermitage Museum (Winter Palace) , I can say it’s the like the Louvre Museum & maybe more interesting than Louver . The Winter Palace was built between 1754 and 1762 for Empress Elizabeth, the daughter of Peter the Great. Unfortunately, Elizabeth died before the palace's completion and only Catherine the Great and her successors were able to enjoy the sumptuous interiors of Elizabeth's home. Many of the palace's impressive interiors have been remodeled since then, particularly after 1837, when a huge fire destroyed most of the building. Today the Winter Palace, together with four more buildings arranged side by side along the river embankment, houses the extensive collections of the Hermitage. The Hermitage Museum is the largest art gallery in Russia and is among the largest and most respected art museums in the world.

Incredible art, architecture and history. The museum as a whole includes various buildings, not just the winter palace, and in my opinion, it's too big for just 1 visit. Take your time and indulge in the beauty! This is my third visit. The first time I was in awe with the interior design, that I did not remember much about the paintings. My second visit I spent more time on the art. Now i'm going through the museum slowly, and really appreciating all the details. I spent 6 hours on my last visit, and skipped a lot of areas. If you are bringing kids, I would do a bit of research on the highlights of the collection, and do a shorter excursion. It's a vast museum, so a lot of walking, and I'm not sure younger children would have the patience. I love the palace rooms most of all, and some of the hallways housing the sculptures are breathtaking! I will be visiting 1 or 2 more times during my current visit to this city, but I love art and architecture. Visiting in winter is highly advised if you want to enjoy the inside of the palaces. The cold keeps most of the tourists away!

Absolutely fantastic place to visit as you will never forget it. The Winter Palace is full of such beautiful antiquities, paintings, statues, tables, chairs, dining rooms, mirrors and so much more that is definitely difficult to take it all in. Usually there are loads of groups of tourists that you are hustled from one room to another by the attendants so you can't enjoy the sheer opulence of the Palace. There is gold leaf everywhere you look and the tables set out for dining are fantastic as are all the items on display. Make sure you take plenty of photos so you can look back on them afterwards. After viewing the Winter Palace it's time to view the stunning gold fountains outside that will take your breath away in their size and beauty. It was a visit that I will never forget.

It's a must visit place in Saint Petersburg. The history inside this place is worth watching. The maintenance of this place plus the vast size of it is amazing. I very much liked the Egypt room too.. Different rooms.. The Italian art.. Modern art.. The canvas the sculpture and the PEACOCK CLOCK... That's amazing.. I hope I could have seen it working but nevertheless it's eye catching. And the coin collection is really amazing. 2 hours isn't enough.

(Translated by Google) Everything is beautiful in the Hermitage, a huge collection of art objects. It's not realistic to get around in a day. The truth by the end of the day already starts to ripple in the eyes of the pictures. (Original) В эрмитаже все красиво, огромное собрание предметов исскуства. За день обойти не реально. Make sure that you have tickets online in advance and I'd advise you to go there a half an hour earlier than the time on your ticket. It's very tough to go through the details of every arts as the ticket allows you to be inside for two hours which is definitely not enough to check out everything inside of the Palace. You can download the audio guidebook on you phone in advance if you are planning on not taking a guide. They offer guide in different languages inside the Palace. You cannot drink water or eat anything while you're inside. Overall, there's plenty of things to see inside the Palace.

Small and quiet member of the Hermitage campus. Entrance is via the Embankment. There are some examples of rooms of Peter 1 with a number of his possessions. There is also a life size wax figure that was created in the days following Peter's death. There is a video at the entrance, however it seemed to only be in Russian. There are cards available at the entrance in various languages for use in the museum.

There is nothing to compare with this humongous museum and it’s collection of fine art. The interiors are mind blowing. The collection of furniture would use some human touch though, it looks very formal and heartless, but still totally worth to be seen.

This is great place and awesome palace. If you are a tourist who visits at Petersburg for the first time, you should visit this palace. And moreover you should try to spend one day in the hermitage itself. Because there are lot of arts and things to see. You should wear comfortable shoes. There is no offer for students in hermitage. Entrance fee is 500 Russian rubles. Don't forget to see arts of picasso and Leonardo da Vinci. Don't forget to see sculpture of michelangelo. Lots of things ,arts , sculptures, different types of cultural things.. etc... It's the best place I have ever visited in st Petersburg. Good luck for your journey.

I am running short of words after exploring the Hermitage museum. I could not see it fully, but what I witnessed is beyond explanation. You need the whole day to see the museum. You will find long queues of people waiting to explore the magnificent museum. It is worth watching and tickets usually start from 700 rubles. If you want to skip lines, tickets can cost you between $40-60. This place is highly recommended to visit but be ready to exhaust one day especially if you are on a short trip.

It is a small palace along the embankment. If you are a student studied in Russia be sure to take your student card with the newest seal for free entrance. It is near the marble palace and you could just walk along the embankment to the marble palace. The lady in charge is friendly and i have a fun chat with her...

Our experience at the Hermitage (S.Persersburg - RUSSIA) was one of contemplation. Unfortunately we were unable to enter the Museum. I intend to return one day, for sure !! We went in October 2017 because of the celebrations of the 100 years of the Russian Revolution. At night we saw a light show in the square that used the facade of the museum and the Palace as a screen. Thanks to the beauty of the architecture, the photographs, the observation of the sun occupying the spaces of the Winter Palace Square. I remember that we arrived very early to the place and the sun was rising on the horizon! Beautiful !!!

It is one of the finest examples of Russian architecture. You must visit this palace when you are in Saint Petersburg along with the Hermitage Museum. You can purchase tickets for the museum and the palace together. Avoid weekends and school holidays as it can get very crowded. Entrance is fee for students of all nationalities but they will have to produce their student ID card.

A magnificent Baroque palace that was once the St. Petersburg residence of the Russian czars. Built on the banks of the River Neva in the heart of St. Petersburg, the Winter Palace was designed by Italian architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli for Empress Elizabeth, who ruled Russia from 1741 to 1762. By the time the building was completed, the formidable Empress Catherine the Great (r.1762–1796) had taken the throne—she is the ruler with whom the palace is most associated. Rastrelli created a vast three-story building with elongated facades. He decorated the interior in lavish Rococo style, although much of this work was destroyed by a disastrous fire in 1837. The palace was extended in the later years of Catherine’s reign by the addition of the Hermitage wings. From seat of power to museum. The imperial family continued using the palace until 1880, when the explosion of a bomb in the dining room showed it was too easy for would-be political assassins to penetrate. During the Russian Revolution of 1917, it was briefly the seat of a provisional government, which was driven out by the Bolsheviks in the storming of the palace. The Winter Palace is now the site of the Hermitage Museum, containing one of the world’s foremost collections of painting and sculpture.

The State Hermitage Museum (Russian: Госуда́рственный Эрмита́ж, is a museum of art and culture in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The second-largest art museum in the world, it was founded in 1764 when Empress Catherine the Great acquired an impressive collection of paintings from the Berlin merchant Johann Ernst Gotzkowsky. The museum celebrates the anniversary of its founding each year on 7 December, Saint Catherine's Day. It has been open to the public since 1852.
