We were celebrating my nephew's graduation from Roanoke College. I ended up here on a whim to meet my father and his fiance. Ended up sitting at the bar instead of a table. The barmaid was very professional and made a delicious martini for me. She also graciously chilled my glass of white wine until my seafood arrived. I especially like the lobster tail that came with my dish.

After canceling reservations at Carrabba’s we decided on a last min pick and so glad we picked Luigi’s! Best authentic Italian food in Roanoke. Thanks to this place I will never go back to Olive Garden again 😂 but seriously this place was really great! Service was excellent and the food was amazing! I will have to come back and try everything else on the menu! We started with escargot on mushroom caps in a lemon wine sauce, and shrimp cocktail, along with fresh made bruschetta, all great! The for the meal we had a angel hair pasta with veal, scallops, and shrimp; and the chicken francese which was so good! Chicken was moist, tender, and juicy and the sauce was to die for! Our server was very nice and the staff was great. This place has a great family feel and its a very comfy place to have a nice dinner! Can’t wait to be back!

You can't visit Roanoke and have an authentic Italian experience without Luigi's. If you want to have a date night where you aren't overwhelmed by loud music and belligerent crowds, this is it. By the time you are greeted you already feel at home. The service is great and the FOOD! The food is amazing! Weather it be seafood with white wine sauce or manicotti with their marinara, every dish is made with love. If you plan a Valentine's meal, be sure to make a reservation, it's worth it. Nowhere else has that classic dining atmosphere. Needless to say, I highly recommend (Side note, I always have to give 'Mama Luigi' a hug because it just feels right). 5 stars.

This was the 1st time I had been here, and the whole experience was outstanding. The host was friendly and warming. Brandi, our server was very professional and fun. I highly recommend reading the background story in thr menu, it is a nice touch to the experience as a whole, and mention how they started.

Amazing place. If you're tired of the same chain "Italian" restaurants or even the local but same Italian offerings, this is the place. Even the Fettuccine Alfredo contains just enough sweet Italian sausage and Prosciutto to give it the extra edge. The variety of other dishes is massive and each one is full of flavor. Even the sides are amazing. Order the spinach with cream sauce, if you don't like spinach, you will change your mind. The service is over the top too. The whole place feels like something that you would only find in a big city. Be sure to make reservations on busy weekend nights, etc. The dishes are made fresh and it shows.

I really don't know how Luigi's got almost 5 stars! We went on Mother's day May 8th 2022 . The glasses were cloudy with a dirt film. Where we were seated the waiters kept bumping the back of my head without apology (tables to close together) The waiter Kevo'n is what he called himself kept talking over my head telling dry jokes. Then the food comes out lacking in flavor, the sausage was 2 different colors in a bowl of water. I ordered lasagna before I was half way through I started feeling nauseous. The owner and Kevin kept peeking around corners watching you which was creepy. End of story diarrhea for 3 days. I wanted to get up and leave but didn't want to ruin anybody else's Mother's day... Then when I saw the news articles about hepatitis A, I can definitely see why it happened... this place seems really sketchy... I feel like I will be safe cooking meals at home and my food tastes way better anyway and is prepared and cooked with clean hands!

Carbonara is awful, fully cooked egg mixed with bacon and some butter. No cream, this absolutely disappoints on all levels. I can’t believe you guys have this on the menu

Food was excellent. The waiter we had was very slow. There were other tables had salads, food, and paid. We were still waiting on our food. Not even busy. Been there before. Never had this to happen.

Took my son here for his 24th birthday dinner. I made reservations 2 days earlier and we were greeted at the door. The waitstaff took the cake to the kitchen and after dinner brought it to the table, candles already lit 👌. They made sure dinner was perfect that night. Food was amazing and very affordable for a 5 star restaurant. Will definitely be back. One or my favorite restaurants in Roanoke.

If you’re looking for authentic Italian this likely isn’t your place. I know Italian is hard to find in the south, but it can’t be marketed as fine dining and authentic if it simply isn’t and should have prices that reflect that. We started with the antipasto- this is probably the worst thing that came out. The eggplant parm was thrown over lettuce that became very soggy and wet, the clams casino had a shriveled clam with nothing but breading and the shrimp are frozen. Everything is extremely under seasoned. For entrees we got the shrimp diavolo spicy level 7/10 so you can imagine my dismay when it wasn’t even spicy ($28). Again, the shrimp were frozen and my initial suspicion was confirmed with the cold shrimp on the plate. The other entree was chicken a la Luigi. It came out overcooked and very bland. Beyond the food the atmosphere was sad. The place needs a revamp and take some tables out. We were back to back with another table and jokes were made about the waitresses putting plates on another table while serving the one 6 inches away. The carpets need to be replaced or cleaned and interestingly enough there was a small piano in the back that was hidden with plants that drew in gnats that I battled throughout dinner. The staff was fine, in fact I thought they were extremely polite, but again for fine dining you would have expected something else. Overall, if they marketed it as a regular Italian place and lowered prices then I probably wouldn’t have batted an eye.

Had a wonderful evening dinner, short wait time, excellent food, and stellar service. The only knock was a slice of cheesecake for dessert that was a little frozen. But even then the waiter warned us, so we knew what was coming. If I wasn’t passing through, I would gladly come back regularly!

To pricy, can't get anything just steak or just fish every thing has to be in a special sauce or with pasta.j I st wanted a steak wound up with flounder in a wine sauce tasty b I t again not what I wanted,at 23.00 for the cheapest plate you ought to be able to get what you want. And not have to settle for anything less

Maybe we just caught them on the wrong night, but all 3 entrees were disappointing: fettuccine carbonara was very dry; shrimp and scallops in tarragon sauce was totally bland—although the scallops were lovely: the rigatoni dish was not at all interesting. The mussels appetizer had only 10 mussels! The best thing about the meal was the homemade avocado salad dressing. I really looked forward to eating at this restaurant because it came well-recommended by my friend and so many reviewers. It makes me think it may have just been an “off” night.

Luigi's Gourmet Italian Restaurant in Roanoke, VA, is an absolute gem that left me thoroughly impressed. From the moment my party and I stepped through the door, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. Our server, Marshall, provided exceptional service that elevated our dining experience to new heights. Marshall's attentiveness and knowledge of the menu were commendable. He guided us through the extensive selection of mouthwatering dishes and offered insightful recommendations. His friendly demeanor and genuine enthusiasm for the cuisine made us feel welcome and well taken care of throughout the evening. Now, let's talk about the food. Luigi's Gourmet Italian Restaurant truly excels in crafting exquisite Italian delights. The Lasagna and Chicken Saltimbocca were absolute showstoppers. The Lasagna was layered with rich, flavorful sauces and a perfect balance of cheese, meat, and pasta. The Chicken Saltimbocca was tender, succulent, and beautifully complemented by its accompanying sauce and sides. Our appetizers were equally impressive. The Garlic Bread was freshly baked, with a perfect blend of garlic, butter, and herbs that left us craving more. The stuffed mushrooms were savory, with a delectable filling that delighted our taste buds. The fried calamari was crispy, perfectly cooked, and accompanied by a tangy dipping sauce that added a burst of flavor. The house salads were a delightful prelude to our main course. The strawberry vinaigrette on one salad was a revelation, with a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity that harmonized with the fresh greens. The avocado dressing on the other salad was creamy and packed with flavor, elevating the dish to a whole new level. The addition of live music added an extra touch of magic to the evening. If you're looking for an authentic Italian dining experience, don't miss the opportunity to visit Luigi's. You won't be disappointed.

The service is normally slower than most restaurants, but the freshly prepared food makes up for the wait. This visit was longer than most. We arrived at 7 pm and paid our check at 9:15. Everyones food was very good except my veal which was chewy with an odd texture.

Finding this place later on a Sunday night after not being able to be seated at our first pick due to a lack of staff was a fun fluke! We were greeted and seated right away. We got the cheese garlic bread and it was delicious. The light airy texture of the bread was delightful. I ordered the basic spaghetti and meat sauce and it did not disappoint. The spaghetti was perfectly cooked and the meat sauce was thick and rich with fresh crushed tomatoes. My partner had the chicken mafioso. The chicken was tender and tasty with a very light garlicky sauce. Our friend got the fettuccine carbonara. It was done nicely with bacon, light and creamy from egg and cheese. Not loaded with any extra sauce. The service was excellent with water and refills done quickly. We were also impressed with the serving sizes, just right, not jumbo portions like served elsewhere. We were very pleased overall. We have been looking to relocate from Saint Louis to Roanoke, and this place could become a favorite for sure! ( We can compare Luigi's with the fabulous restaurants on The Hill and Luigi's is authentic as well)

After reading reviews and getting highly recommended by a friend, I decided to try this place with some friends. Unfortunately, I wasn’t too happy with how things turned out. I’m originally from the NJ/NY area so I know what good Italian food should taste like. I try to lower my standards when I try Italian places in VA, but there has to be some sort of expectation in place. The restaurant is small and was very crowded when we went, which is fine, but it’s a little uncomfortable when the waitress is consistently backing into you and your table while taking another table’s order. We were seated and had to wait 10-15 mins before our waiter came over and filled our waters. We ordered fried calamari for the table and it was extremely salty and overcooked. This was followed by some salad which was good, but it’s pretty hard to mess up a salad. Three out of four of us ordered pasta for our main and all three of us had overcooked, mushy pasta and the portions were quite small for what we were paying. I also wasn’t blown away by the sauce on mine and my friend’s dish looked almost watery. My one friend ordered a steak which seemed to be cooked to her liking and she enjoyed it. After receiving the check, I was surprised to see we were charged for the bread that we were brought before our appetizers. I know most restaurants in VA don’t even offer bread for the table, but it would have been nice if we were told ahead of time we’d be charged for it. I will say our server was nice, but I don’t think I’ll be returning here.

This place is a sad excuse for fine dining and one of the worst Italian restaurants in Roanoke. I got the seafood scampi and everything was sloppy and overcooked besides the clams which were literally raw. The sauce was completely spilled in the bag and the whole meal was just 4 shrimp, 3-4 clams and an extremely unevenly cooked lobster tail. Staff had a “couldn’t be bothered” attitude, and everything was just half effort, lazy, and disgusting.

Delicious food, hot and tasty. Went on a Friday evening and mostly empty dining room, but some wait staff seemed bothered by working! Better service would've earned 5*s

Disclaimer: I grew up in New Jersey, an hour drive from either Philly or NYC, so I might be a bit harsher Italian restaurant critic than most here. That said, this restaurant was just terrible! In no way did this place even come remotely close to my already low expectations… I ordered fettuccine carbonara and it was *literally* chunks of fried egg with large pieces of bacon—not bacon bits—pieces of bacon from out of a frying pan, broken up and placed on my plate. There was no sauce or anything like that…just bacon & egg chunks on top of fettuccine. My fiancé had vodka rigatoni that was equally bad—over cooked pasta with sauce that tastes worse than out of a jar. Almost forgot the extremely forgettable appetizer—the bruschetta was made with stale, dry herbs and sad tomatoes. Frankly, I wish we had just ordered dominos because it would have at least tasted good and not been as sad and depressing.

Luigi's was Absolutely Delicious! We had dinner there on 9/3/22 after taking a rode trip from Franklinton, NC we love going to the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Hostess was the sweetest lady and we were treated like old friends. We sat on the enclosed patio and listened to real Italian songs. I had Lasagna and he had Rigatoni - best Lasagna I have had!!! Our lovely new waitress was quick, caring and our drinks, salads and entrees came on time. And we were surprised with glasses of Champagne given to us by our dear hostess who reminded me of my dear Aunt. Whenever we return to Roanoke, we will visit Luigi's! The Willoughby's from NC.

I took my girlfriend here for Valentine’s Day dinner but the day before to beat the rush! We had an amazing time! The staff was kind, attentive, and made us feel welcomed! My girlfriend has been to Italy many times and she said it tastes like she was back in Italy when she tasted the food and the best in the area!
