This fort is located in the city itself. Very near to lord anjeyana temple and sri Narasimhan temple. All people can go this fort easily since steps are there for climbing. Very good looking fort. But the fort is not maintained well in top. So much bushes and not maintained by anybody. Small Perumal temple is located at the top.If the top fort is maintained well, then definitely it is best tourism, then families can come. Corporation should take initiative to make good tourist spot. Big lake is located with park facilities in below of the fort ,it is one of the good thing. Families with kids can spent time in the evening.

Great place to get a 360 degrees view of the city. The entry is not as per Google maps. It's a very narrow lane with no sign boards in the opposite side. You have to really be determined to find the entry, it's so hidden. Just follow the visuals and logic. The climb isn't that difficult. It will take around 10 mins for an avg person to climb up.

You can see get a nice view of Namakkal from this Fort . Other than that you can see some weird behaviours of teens without considering anybody.Girls are fallen in the name of love and make fun with the boys. Teenage Boys make girls fall in the sake of love and do their duties with the girls . I don't know where and when are these things going to end !?

The fort was built by the Madurai Nayaks during the 17th century. It is reported to have been built by Ramachandra Nayakar, the Poligar of Sendamangalam, during the reign of Thirumalai Nayak. The fort was captured by the British in 1768, to be lost to Hyder Ali. His son Tipu Sultan went on to utilise the fort as a arms depot and watch tower. It switched hands to the British East India Company who got five forts including this one as a part of the Treaty of Srirangapatnam. The British used the fort for storing food grains and arms in the hillock. The British used this as a watch tower. Lieutenant Fehrszen used this as a garrison during the Peninsular war. The fort is located in the centre of Namakkal town over a hillock made of single rock named Namagiri. The fort is located on the top of the rock, 246 ft tall. There is a Narasimha Murthy temple and a mosque that are located within the fort, both of which are popular tourist attractions .The area of the fort is around 1.5 acres on the top. An 8 ft image of Hanuman is reinstalled on the fort, facing the Narasimha image on the top of the fort. According to Hindu legend, the hillock on which the fort is located was carried by Hanuman. The hillock is known as Namagiri and also as Saligramam, the image of Vishnu in a divine stone. Hanuman was flying with the Sanjeevi Paravatha, the sacred mountain from Himalayan mountain to Sri Lanka. On his way, he saw the Kamalalayam tank located at foothills and descended there to perform his morning worship. He placed the saligramam he brought from the Himalayas and when he opened his eyes after the worship, he saw the stone grown to its current size. A divine voice asked him to leave the stone in the place itself. As per another legend, Narasimha, an avatar of Vishnu, after destroying Asura Hiranyakasipu, was still in ferocious mood. Hanuman, brought him to the place where Mahalakshmi, the wife of Vishnu was doing penance.

My mom went on a trip around South India. She shared with me her experiences, photos and videos. Namakkal Fort was one of her stops. It is accessible through a flight of stairs on the South West side. The fort is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India.

(Translated by Google) The Namakkal area is referred to as 'Thiruvaraikkal' in the inscriptions on the north-western and southern walls of the Paladaina temple located on the hill. Namakkal is also known as the 'City of Chickens' and the 'Egg City' as the eggs sent to most parts of the country are produced in Namakkal. The hill fort located in Namakkal is the highlight of the city. The fort is located on a flat area of one and a half acres. The fort can be reached by narrow steps located in a southwesterly direction. The Namakkal area was once ruled by Gunaseela, an Attikula king who was married to a Pallava dynasty. Later under the rule of the Cholas who invaded the Kongu region in the 9th century, and later under the rule of the Vijayanagara Empire, Mathura came under the Governor's office. Nice place to get view of namakkal town...built by pallavas and later on ruled by tippu sultan ... Pros.. On mountain you will find Sri Rama temple Below this fort, on one side you will find narasimha swamy temple constructed under this mountain and other side of the mountain you will find ranganatha swamy temple .. Cons Not a fine place to visit for families ,as most of the time you will find young kids and college students hanging out with their partners for fun... No proper patrol to control this....

It is fort built over single rock.it would have been nice if the archeology survey dept kept some history information sharing about the fort. Small one but the antiqueness will make you feel visiting the previous era. Two rooms with high walls , most probably rulers might have used as jail cell. Small temple of Varadharaja Perumal is available with out any priest. Lot of opportunities to improve

Magnificent location right in the middle of Namakkal town. It is an archeological site but not monetized by authorities yet. I was surprised to see that it is not vandalised yet by anti social elements. There could be some better waste management on top, but its not as bad as one would expect. The views from the top is spectacular especially for sunrise and sunset. It gets too much windy so you have to take care of your things. The entrance to the place is hidden you might have to ask locals. Parking is very much limited at the entrance, but there are plenty parking available on other sides of the fort.

Nice to see. Very big size of mountain ⛰️ in center city. Fort looks good. No parking facility in entrance area. We have to park the side of the road. Steps - not good it has very slope. Be careful while you go upstairs. In noon time - don't go in noon time. Because rock will be heat. Fort recently closed in front of the fort gate. Somebody misuse this fort.

The High Rise Namakkal Fort is an example of one of the chola dynasty... Breezy and natural stepping stones make it an enjoyable climb to the top... A beautiful scenic view of Namakkal town and temples below is mesmerizing...
