My
fiancé
and
I
stayed
at
the
old
Kylpylähotelli,
initially
planned
for
three
nights,
but
on
the
third
day,
we
decided
to
leave
early.
Luckily
we
got
a
refund
on
the
third
day,
but
this
is
the
first
time
I’ve
ever
had
to
leave
a
holiday
early.
The
primary
reason
for
our
early
departure
was
the
fact
that
the
room
was
absolutely
boiling
hot
from
start
to
finish.
Granted,
it
has
been
the
hottest
week
of
the
year,
but
the
room
having
no
air
conditioning
didn’t
help.
In
addition
to
this,
the
room
had
no
wifi,
no
cleaning
done
by
the
cleaning
lady,
and
the
entire
room
was
straight
out
of
the
70s.
The
whole
old
Kylpylähotelli
is
like
a
time
capsule.
Eerily
quiet,
beds
as
hard
as
if
they
were
from
the
Flintstones,
and
no
refills
on
toilet
paper
and
no
new
towels.
It’s
evident
the
spa
has
completely
abandoned
this
part
of
the
resort.
The
staff
called
the
room
“modest”,
but
we
would
rather
say
“ancient”.
For
78
per
night
you
don’t
expect
wonders,
but
certainly
something
modern.
The
lack
of
AC
was
nauseating
on
a
hot
week
like
this,
and
the
lack
of
wifi
was
both
surprising
and
odd.
And
no,
there
is
no
4G
in
the
building
either.
Besides
the
room
itself,
the
resort
is
definitely
on
its
way
out.
The
reception
and
hotels
have
been
renovated,
yes,
but
absolutely
at
the
cost
of
the
hotel
rooms.
Surely
the
customers’
rooms
should
be
the
main
priority,
no?
The
hotel
has
an
R-Kioski,
which
is
a
relief
as
there
is
absolutely
nothing
out
there
for
about
6
km.
And
if
you
are
unfortunate
enough
to
not
have
a
car,
the
only
way
to
access
a
shop
is
to
rent
an
old
jopo-bicycle
(with
no
gears,
by
the
way)
and
essentially
just
ride
on
the
road,
as
the
bike
roads
are
scarce.
But
the
R-Kioski
itself
has
raised
its
prices
from
regular
ones
about
200%,
so
you
can’t
even
get
a
0,5
bottle
of
soda
for
less
than
5
euros.
And
besides
this,
there
are
restaurants
-
or
allegedly,
there
are.
The
only
one
open
on
the
days
we
were
there
is
the
street
food
restaurant.
The
a
la
carte
restaurant
is
only
open
like
one
day
a
week,
the
pub
is
never
open,
the
beach
bar
has
probably
never
even
been
open,
and
the
downstairs
buffet
only
does
dinner
buffet,
again,
once
a
week.
And
the
street
food
place
charged
us
19
euros
a
pop
for
a
cold,
stale
buffet
(drinks
not
included)
that
gave
my
fiancé
diarrhea.
There
is
honestly
no
sense
in
having
so
many
restaurants
if
none
of
them
are
ever
open.
The
only
upside
of
this
place
was
the
waterpark/spa
area
itself.
It
is
very
small,
only
a
couple
of
pools
and
a
single
slide,
but
it
was
nice
and
calm.
But
I
think
the
calmness
speaks
to
the
unpopularity
of
the
place.
The
bowling
and
billiards
would
have
been
fun
(though
expensive,
23
euros
for
bowling)
if
the
entire
floor
had
not
been
heated
at
40
degree
celsius.
We
were
sweating
like
pigs
after
two
minutes
down
there.
The
lake
in
itself
seemed
nice,
but
was
constantly
flooded
with
geese,
so
didn’t
seem
that
tempting
to
go
into.
The
entire
resort
seems
like
a
ghost
town
with
all
the
empty
buildings,
the
outdated
rooms
and
the
fact
that
it
is
situated
absolutely
in
the
middle
of
nowhere,
filled
with
overworked
staff
members.
Ikaalinen
should
take
a
page
out
of
Katinkulta’s
(Vuokatti)
book,
which
has
managed
to
stay
relevant,
consistent
and
absolutely
delightful
throughout
the
years.
Or
Ikaalinen
could
look
at
Flamingo
(Vantaa),
with
the
new,
exciting
pools
and
slides.
Our
bad
experience
had
nothing
to
do
with
the
staff.
They
did
their
best
in
a
resort
that
is
old,
tired
and
essentially
irrelevant.
Wouldn’t
recommend
for
anything
other
than
the
pools,
and
even
then,
you
might
be
better
off
looking
somewhere
else.
