Magnificent castle, beautifully preserved, with lovely gardens and fountains. It offers spectacular views on the city and the port. There are some wending machines inside the castle with beverages, snacks and coffee to freshen up, and also public toilets. I definitely recommend the visit (you'll spend there a couple of hours). The entrance was free of charge.

(Translated by Google) The classic Almeria par excellence, something that you cannot miss to see. Free entry which makes it very pleasant to be able to take a look from the top of the city area and its landscape. (Original) El clásico almeriense por excelencia, algo que no puede faltar para ver. A must see place when you visit Almería. Located just 10 minutes walk away from downtown, this is a beautiful fortress to visit. There has been a lot of work to recover the structure and gardens and once again you can experience its greatness. The flow of water throughout the property is impressive as well as its impressive views of the city. The entrance is free but my suggestion is to charge for it to maintain both the Alcazaba and San Cristobal.

Great fortress, free entry. This is not Alhambra, but the buildings themselves and fortifications and gardens are pretty close. Just missing the interiors of Alhambra. But they are working on restoration. Beautiful views from multiple vantage points, including the highest tower.

Beautiful, didn’t expect such a monumental views but exceeded the expectations. Great place to have photo shoots and even movies if you can take permission. Can see the Spanish architecture clearly. Lot of greenery restoration is happening as well- must visit if you’re in Almería

I am a huge Game of Thrones fan and to be where the Kingdom of Dorne was filmed was an amazing experience for me. Aside from that, the historical value and beauty of these buildings is definitely a sight not to miss. Be sure to wear shoes with a rubber sole, at times the stones can be slippery. This is not an ideal terrain for wheelchairs or baby carriages. The views from the gardens or buildings themselves are also amazing.

A fascinating old building with great views over Almeria. We spent about two hours wandering around the alcazaba and the other buildings on site. We didn’t take a guided tour but that is possible if that’s what you prefer. We were lucky with the weather and got some good photos of the building and over Almeria.

Great place to visit, should have gone later as it was a light up for the 3 king’s celebration. Most of the original History has been lost due to earthquakes. Still grand to visit if not as good as the Alhambra.

Very well preserved buildings and gardens. No waiting time to enter and free for European citizens. Could have a bit more of explaining panels or audio guide. Sadly we could not book an English tour at the time we visited. Still worth visiting this interesting infrastructure and enjoy the beautiful views.

Wonderful place to visit. Gardens are beautiful and lots of interesting history dating back to the 1400's. Being free entry is a huge bonus too, very safe re Covid, masks on all the time, one way system viewing the sights and maintain 2m distancing throughout.

Fantastic museum attraction showcasing a beautiful 10th century Arabic fortress that also has the benefit of being free! It’s a huge complex with beautiful views of the city, gorgeous gardens and fountains and lots of detailed archeological exhibits throughout. As a fun bonus, there are a bunch of cats that live at the Alcazaba, most of which are very friendly! I was only about to spend about an hour there, but I could have easily stayed way longer! As a warning, this may not be the best attraction of you have mobility issues, and pathway up to the Alcazaba, as well as many of the internal staircases and walkways, are pretty steep and uneven - as is the case with most 10th century stone masonry. Skip the flip flops and wear sneakers/walking shoes for maximum enjoyment.

A nice historical and architectural tourist place to visit in Almeria. Interesting views for the town, port and gardens (at my pic) No access for wheelchairs and baby carriage, there are stairs! You can leave the baby carriage at the information point. No need to book a ticket, it's free!!!

Neat looking castle and allegedly a lot of history. Unfortunately they close at 1800 which didn’t allow an opportunity to visit. Lots of construction going on so even when open some parts are still restricted.

Wonderful building to walk around, with gardens and water features helping to keep it cool. Fantastic panoramic views of the city. I think the entry fee only applies to people outside of Europe, but even €1.50 would be well worth it. Don't rely on Google opening times, best to check website for local holidays. Even then, it's only a 15 minute walk from the town centre and looks good from the outside.

We didn't realize this was within walking distance, but it's is. They didn't charge us to get in (not sure if this is normal protocol though). Great way to spend an hour + -- go when it's cooler out, dusk was perfect.

Free entry and helpful staff. Lovely view and a good job at restoration. One side of the surrounding are is a bit scary as it was really run down part of the street but otherwise worth a visit.

Very nice castle, with a beautiful view of the city.

  • 4/5 Ian S. 1 year ago on Google
Great castle with free entry and continuous improvements and absolutely fabulous views so why only 4 stars? There are no refreshment areas, just a small room with self service machines and one set of toilets. It desperately needs more refreshment areas which surely would be a valuable source of income? There was a gift shop but that was closed and litter bins are a rarity. Some of the information boards have English translation but but all so a few more boards translated would be great. However overall a great day just carry plenty of water.

Very much worth a visit. Its free and all you do is say how many in the group and what country you're from. They could easily charge and it be worth a visit! It's very interesting and offers lovely views of Almeria. There are buses that service the foot of it if you don't fancy the hike up the hill towards the entrance! Taxis are an option too

Historic Fortress above Almeria. Several medeval centuries of history can be seen here. Green gardens as well as small museum. The place creates a special mood and was used as movie production site for Game of Thrones as an example. All this comes for free as the county of andaluzia is sponsoring this sight.

  • 5/5 David F. 5 years ago on Google
Wow!! The Alcazaba is an impressive Moorish fortress with much to see. Entry is free (although apparently only in the morning?) and there are huge grounds to explore inside. Excavations are still ongoing in part of the citadel. It's a shame that the upper walkways around the huge walls are closed to the public, and it would have been amazing to walk along the wall that stretches across the valley from one side to the other, however it is still an amazing place to visit. I would also recommend walking up the opposite hill where the Cerro de San Cristobal stands as you get an excellent view of the valley and fortress from this side too.

Stunning...We visited not quite sure what to expect and were amazed. No charge to enter and very few people there. Fantastic views across the city, and lot's to see. The gardens were lovely and very interesting to see the archaeological work and restoration s.

  • 4/5 Chris G. 5 years ago on Google
Great views of the port and town. Some minor articles from the Moors out on display and restored mock up housing. Free entrance also and vending machines at the top so you can buy a cool drink in summer. Some areas are closed and under restoration.

  • 5/5 Andrew L. 5 years ago on Google
Superb castle complex high up on a hill overlooking Almeria. It's free to go in and had gardens, lots of view points and lots of places to explore. There's cannons, cold store rooms, exhibitions and archaeological excavations. A wonderful experience, and the main reason to visit the town.

Great place in Almeria. Free entry closes early at three on a Sunday. Great space to walk around, through fab gardens and water features. The views of the city are fab. Must say that there are a few steps to climb before the entrance. You can also catch the C1 tourist bus from around the city. Variety of buildings and other stuff to wander around when you there. Recommend while in Almeria. 😀😀

  • 3/5 Polina D. 5 years ago on Google
Huge castle. Great view over. Probably better when not in a windy day. But still - few info signs with brief history. Did not see any artefacts or some kind of museum so to delve into the atmosphere. Beyond the outer wall there is some kind of low key zoo with gazelle of some sort. Was weird.

  • 5/5 Moe S. 3 years ago on Google
Very short night time visit. It was magnificent and worth the visit. Route is well organised with hand sanitizer available at many points. Like many Andalucían moorish sites, you can see the harmony between gardens waterways and buildings. Well recommended.

Great ruin to walk around, make sure you grab the appropriate language leaflet before you make a start into the castle proper. The gardens are lovely and to be enjoyed with a slow stroll and the work happening in the second section should reveal some excellent views into original buildings. Make sure you take suncream and water, it gets hot!
