A well established and expert led cultural event. The cultural event includes a traditional Kava welcome, discussion on local Samoan protocols, a hands on Umu set up, demonstration on how to husk and scrape a coconut, sit in to see the application of traditional tattooing, visit to see tapas made from bark and finally a wholesome dinner from the Umu. Overall an excellent experience by professional guides. Would highly recommend

This is a must see attraction if you are interested in seeing the historical Samoan way of life. The centre is located in central Apia across the street from the beautiful church and behind the welcome centre. Established about 5 years ago the grounds are still being developed as they suffered some storm damage. Although open all day the two hour guided tour and performances are only given on alternate days and when cruise ships are visiting. Arrive by 10 am for the performance that begins at 10:30. Although advertised as free after seeing the show you will feel compelled to leave a significant donation. When you arrive you will be welcomed by lovely ladies and invited to sit down and enjoy some music. You will then be shown how to weave some leaves to make a simple bowl which you will use later to enjoy some local food. The show is hosted by a tribal chief. He will take you to several stations where he will describe local traditions and you will witness how traditional life is lived. The first station you visit is the cooking shelter where you see the men preparing the dishes. You see various foods prepared including taro, breadfruit and fish and how they are cooked over heated rocks covered with leaves. Next you visit the carving shelter to see craftsmen making all the items needed for daily living. Next comes the tattooing station where we learn the ritual of full body tattooing for men and lower body tattooing for women and the significance of these tattoos. You then return to the main reception are to learn how they make traditional wraps and prints out of finely prepared leaves. By now the meal is cooked and you will sample the traditional foods in the little bowls you had the opportunity to make. Finally there was a full 30 minutes of Samoan dancing. This was a cultural experience we will never forget.

Great exhibit/show. From basket weaving, to creaming coconut, to textile painting, to traditional samoan cooking and eating traditional food, to wood carving, to the art of tattooing, to fire dancing and samoan traditonal dance. All in all, the program was excellent and the main guide who introduced himself as "Alofa" was marvellous and has great sense of humour!! Worth every 20 tala entrance!! Must visit place!!

Nicely done introduction into traditional Samoan stone oven and food preparation. Unless you know someone or your resort does this and you can watch, this is not readily available. The dancing and music is fine. You can also see traditional tattoos being done. That is rare! The staff are friendly and welcoming. You also get a meal that you saw was prepared. All this for 10 tala

The Cultural Village is a great first stop after landing in Samoa. In 2 hours you will: * Weave palm leaves into a basket (or at least attempt to) * Experience song and dance * See the half body tattoo being applied live * See a traditional Umu stone oven and have them cook your lunch for free * See wood craft (not too traditional) * See the method of how they make traditional clothing from bark The visitor centre at the front will help you find where to go next afterwards.

Awesome place to see a few key parts of the Samoan culture in action, e.g. Siapo making (tapa cloth), siva Samoa (traditional dancing), tatau Samoa (traditional tattooing), woodcarving, and a traditional umu (traditional way of cooking) preparation and tasting. Talks all provided in English. No cover charge but a well-stocked snack fale on site if you need. Donations are appreciated at the conclusion of the tour during the taualuga (siva/dance finale), but not essential

A lovely introduction to Samoa. We (with plenty of help) made headbands and plates ready for our traditional Umo lunch. The staff were lovely and the Cooking demonstration educational and funny. While eating lun h we watched a short show of Samoan dancing and singing

At the time of writing, all cultural activities and tours are cancelled due to measles outbreak. Wish I know this earlier. There is still one person inside the office providing advice and there are maps and pamphlets available for free

Absolutely a must do. An excellent display and narrative on Samoian customs and village life. A 3 hour tour and show that is free provided by people that are rightfully proud of their heritage.

An unforgettable experience to come and learn the Samoan Culture for FREE. If you want to see people actually tap out a traditional tattoo, break open coconuts, cook and show you step by step of the traditional cooking ( o le umu ) this is a great place to come learn and have a first hand experience of the culture.

WOW!! We didn't know what to expect but the whole family were blown away by the cultural experience (kids 16 & 14). This was a fantastic way to learn and experience Samoan culture. Music, weaving, wood working display, traditional tattoo display and participating and eating food from traditional umu and watching the traditional dances and fire dance. Value for money is exceptional, but the learning experience is unforgettable. I knew very little about Samoa prior to our trip. I have loved every minute of this beautiful country, the most amazing people and culture. Samoa should be on the top of everyone's list to visit.

Free cultural tour, went here on my first day and felt it helped me with a basis of Samoan culture. You also get to have a free lunch and see a cultural dance, tattooing, wood carving, coconut cutting/making coconut cream. Worth a visit.

Fun informative way to learn about the Samoan culture. Recommend this village to see tatooing, traditional method of cooking using Umu, making coconut cream from scratch & creative arts e.g weaving your own plate. The cultural village team are charming. We went on Wednesday morning at 10.30am. A must go for anyone wanting to connect with their roots or understand why things are done a certain way. Had a great time!

Such a great way to learn about Samoa's culture. The performances are impressive and the experience is worth so much more than the $10 Tala they charge. A must see when visiting!

One of the best and most memorable places in Samoa. It's a great demonstration of various traditions and arts of the Samoan people, and you have the chance to buy products there for a very fair price. I can highly recommend visiting. The tour itself is free.

Loved it! The tour is really wonderful and shows you so many cultural aspects of Samoa. There's even the tatau area, where members of the world famous Sulu'ape family of tattoo masters work. It all culminates with eating the food you saw being cooked earlier

On my first full day in Samoa (05 Jan) I came to the cultural village and tourist information centre at 10:30am to find everything closed. I walked around the back of the info centre to the cultural village where roughly 5 locals were sitting around, I asked one lady if there was a cultural show and she said she didn't know and to ask someone else. I then saw 3 other tourists and we were all standing around looking lost. I wanted to make this place my first point of call as it is highly recommended on the tourism website - "Fa’a Samoa has a strong focus on welcoming visitors making Samoans friendly and hospitable hosts." No one approached us or made us feel welcome so we all left. I saw another car of tourists pull up as I was leaving. Suddenly out of nowhere a guy approached trying to sell me a necklace, I explained that it was my first day in Samoa and I didn't want to buy anything yet but he was very persistent. I just started walking away and he swore at me. I went past this place again on the 6th and 7th but it wasn't open at all. Very disappointing. Thankfully the hosts who I stayed with were very helpful

A must do when you visit Samoa. Was so interesting. Took part in a welcome ceremony, watched traditional tattoo, watched the prep then ate a meal from an umu. Craving and our favourite the Tapa making so clever. Very educational and entertaining. The hosts were very funny also.

A must do in Samoa. A great introductions to several aspects of Samoan culture, such as umu cooking, printing cloth, making tapa, and you even get to watch genuine traditional tattooing - by the master tattoo artists of Samoa, on whichever client they are tattooing at the time. Amazingly, the entire experience is free and you get to eat a small meal size of the food that you saw being made in the umu earlier. Don't miss this!
