Here lies urns of India's greatest war general & strategist. Who died here in April 1740 of high fever coming from Delhi after winning yet another war. This place is maintained by 'Archeological Survey of India' which is a real pity as it should be kept and maintained by MP tourism dept.

Samadhi of one of the most powerful and brave Maratha ruler "Thorale Bajirao Peshwa". This place is popularly known as "Peshwa Sarkar ki Samadhi" in local region. It is Nice and quite place. Good view of Narmada. Now have some local arrangements of food and cold drinks and tea in the area around. Bajirao Ballal Balaji Bhat was basically Peshwa (Pantapradhan) for 4th Maratha Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj. In 1740 when bajirao was on a millitary operation, he had a military camp here in Rawerkhedi. On 28th April 1740 he died due to heat stroke. Samadhi was built in his remembrance by Shinde (Scindia) of Gwalior. Samadhi is built in sand stone, not decorative but still very effective and beautiful. Needs a proper road connectivity and some tourist facilities in the village. But the monument itself needs care to be taken. Little bit of genuine restoration may turn the place around. A bit of genuine restoration will bring the mausoleum back to its glory.

Raverkhedi A milestone during the Maratha empire. This place is known for samadhi of 7th Peshwa of the Maratha Empire "Pantpradhan Shreemant Peshwa Bajirao Ballal Balaji Bhat". Baji Rao I (18 August 1700 – 28 April 1740), born as Visaji, also known as Bajirao Ballal was the 7th Peshwa of the Maratha Empire. During his 20-year career as a Peshwa, he defeated Mughals and their vassal Nizam-ul-Mulk at several battles like the Battle of Delhi and Battle of Bhopal. Baji Rao's achievements are establishing Maratha supremacy in southern India and political hegemony in northern India. Thus, he was responsible for establishing Maratha power in Gujarat, Malwa, Rajputana and Bundelkhand all the way up to Bengal and gaining Konkan (western coast of India) from the Siddis of Janjira and Portuguese rule. The location is surrounded by beautiful landscapes and a mesmerising view of the Maa Narmada river front. The location is currently under Madhya Pradesh tourism and is well maintained, cleaned by MPT along with a clean washroom and fresh cold drinking water. Apart from the location being more than two century years old it is well preserved, clean and maintained by Madhya Pradesh tourism department. Wish to know more about the Maratha Empire history, what big achievement that Bajirao Peshwa made during his 39 years of life and his dedication towards establishing the Maratha dynasty in Bundelkhand then a must visit place with family. Do carry some food and water as there is nothing available nearby. Advice to visit after peak monsoon till Feb as summer can be unbearable.

Tribute to an invincible warrior @ Raver Khedi on the banks of Narmada In tribute 🙏🙏 I have tried coming here on three previous occasions and succeeded in finding one or other pretext to postpone it to the next visit. This place has reckoned me,haunted and tormented, me to visit, so when I came here today and paid my obeisance I felt I’ve come home!! It’s a place of pilgrimage, history and valor like none other. @Raverkhedi in Khargone district on the banks of narmada lies a simple monument built by his loyal general Scindia to his beloved peshva A monument to an incomparable warrior. It is a nondescript monument walled with a courtyard lined with colonnades with a central pedestal where his last rites were performed, and encrypted inside are the ashes of this brave warrior. History has seen him with myopic vision but read inbetween the lines and tales of victorious battles start flowing. Politics has tried to erase his name from most of history books yet he shines forth. Imagine a young 40 yr old general camping with troops of one lakh soldiers waiting to cross the narmada for onward campaigns of the far flung north (read attock(currently in pak)and kabul) His career spanned only 20 years yet his battle skills are legendary. Example quoted often in military history is the battle of palkhed. The country was under saffron flag of chatrapati to the greatest extent under him. By a cruel twist of fate death overtook him with sudden illness and changed fortunes of this country forever. Most part of his life was spent on horseback and battlefield. A general who never lost a battle with his legendary battle skills. Only death could overpower him. A true ‘Ran mard’ (braveheart of the men in battle) In remembrance and tribute. Shrimant Peshva bajirao ballal I 18aug1700-28apr1740 I bow to thee in respect 🙏🙏

Shrimant Bajirao Peshwe was the greatest military general India ever saw. He started the military campaigns at very early age along with his father. After his father's demise, he was given the post of Peshwa (prime miniater) by Maratha king Chatrapati Shahu ji and he proved the trust every bit. He opened the doors of northern India to marathas and shaken up mughals to the core. His skills were such that his ultimate victory over Nizam of Hyderabad at Palkhed is referred by the british generals like Montgomery as well, who hailed Peshwa Bajirao as the Greatest Cavalary General ever produced by India. This great man passed away due to heat stroke at the banks of river Narmada during one of his northen campaigns. Later one of his generals Shinde (Scindia) built this samadhi in his remembrance. It's a simple yet elegant Samadhi. It is said to contain ashes of Shrimant Peshwa Bajirao. One can feel nothing but humility while standing in front of the smrithi sthal of this great man.

Shreemant Baji Rao Peshwe is considered one of the most celebrated personality and the greatest military generals in the history of Maratha Empire. On 28 April 1740 Shreemant Baji Rao Peshwe died cause of virulent fever when he encamped in Raverkhedi, on the bank of Narmada River, MP. After his death Shreemant Balaji Baji Rao also known as Nanasaheb Peshwe ordered Ranoji Shinde to build a chhatri / Samadhi as a memorial. Information Courtesy: Wikipedia and Historical references

The great Peshwa Bajirao Samadhi is situated in Raverkhedi. At the time of a campaign for North India, he died on the Narmada border. Shiva-Linga is carved by carving stones of Narmada in Bakawan near Raverkhedi.
