Consider visiting during the weekday for a less crowded experience.

  1. To connect with a crucial piece of Texas and US history, learn about the battle for independence, and explore artifacts related to the Alamo and the era. Visiting at night can be a particularly spectacular experience.

I recently visited the Alamo in San Antonio, and it was a good experience. The site is small but full of history. It was interesting to see the old buildings and learn about the Battle of the Alamo. There are signs and displays that explain what happened, and it was easy to follow. The area is clean and well-kept, and the visit didn’t take too long—maybe about an hour or two. It’s free to enter, and there’s a gift shop with souvenirs. I’d recommend going in the morning when it’s cooler and less crowded. Overall, it was a nice visit and a great way to learn a little about Texas history.

The experience is great, the staff is friendly and knowledgeable when answering questions. The Alamo its self is pretty small and takes about a half hour to see with the line, the museum has lots of really cool artifacts and takes a good amount of time to get through. The garden is absolutely beautiful and is a great place to rest, overall I would highly recommend coming if you never have.

The Alamo was a cool experience, we purchased the self-paced audio tour. That had a ton of information but was pretty pricey, especially when they say they require tickets for different parts but then nobody even checks the tickets so everyone is walking in everywhere. They definitely get enough funding with all the new construction going on and the huge new building. Back to the audio tour - my kids didn’t make it very far as it’s kind of long and drawn out, even lost some of the adults in the group. Maybe a kids version would be helpful and more entertaining. They have a ton of Alamo Rangers walking around, it made me wonder if the area is not safe? Or they just like the presence to make sure history is preserved? I was surprised the national park service wasn’t there, I’ll have to read the background on that. Weekday was a great time to go though, a friend of mine came with and he said there were probably a quarter of the people there! So that’s what I would recommend. Lots of shops around for souvenirs that are cheaper than the Alamo shop too so check that out before making purchases.

There is so much history here that is incredible! There was a very large amount of construction going on, at and around the Alamo property. Despite the construction, it was a very impressive experience for my whole family. The museum has an unbelievable amount of historical items from the battle at the Alamo and other historical period items.

Incredible school field trip. Really appreciated the tour guides and docents. A lot is under construction, but still a very good visit. Don't miss the museum after touring the church (the main thing most people picture when they think of the Alamo).

Definitely a must see when in San Antonio! The buildings are lovingly and reverently kept and preserved, and the grounds are beautiful. The staff is knowledgeable and offered us assistance as I was pushing my husband in a wheelchair. One of the staff members gave us the history of the battles that led up to the Alamo and beyond. It was very moving to hear when standing in that hallowed place. I’d also highly recommend visiting at night. The grounds are lit up, including some ancient Live Oak trees. It’s a truly spectacular sight!

We had an opportunity to visit the city during our work trip and came this spot during our river walk. Honestly San Antonio is full of so many layers of history and the Alamo tour, historical depth, and genuine staff were wonderful. Enjoy the walk, video tutorials and be present to embrace and learn the journey and history of the moment and the why.

We visited during Spring Break 2025. The Church is the main focal point of The Alamo today. However, it was first the first mission in San Antonio, later becoming a military fort. And the church was the building where the final battle against the Mexican Army defeated Davy Crocket and others in Texas's attempt at independence. Mexican President Santa Ana had his soldiers destroy all of the outer fort walls before they left. The church is a nicely preserved building. We didn't go into the barracks, though we had paid for a ticket to do so. Instead we spent more time in the modern Museum building taking in all of the artifacts. An interesting fact: musician Phil Collins is a HUGE history buff and donated his HUGE collection of Alamo artifacts to The Alamo. Even if you are only going into the church which is FREE admission, you are still required to stand in line at the ticket booth and get a ticket. The lines then move fairly quickly. No touching the walls. Just enjoy. There is a diorama inside with volunteers willing to share some of the history with you.

This is a must-see for anyone around San Antonio. The history of the even is crucial in the history of the USA. It's massively important. But frankly, we found the other missions in the San Antonio area to be more interesting. The Alamo is well preserved for a very touristy place. It's exhibits are well positioned to attract youngsters & teenagers. Overall, we're really glad to have made this visit.

The Alamo is really cool. We did not do the tour. We were there 15 years ago & you didn't have to do the tour to get inside. This time we only walked the grounds & visited the gift shop to smash pennies. The musket vs muzzleloader demonstration was really cool. The Alamo tour isn't that expensive but in my opinion the place has gotten too commercialized. It is in the middle of town so it doesn't really have that old history feel. Honestly we feel it's a better experience to go to the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. A lot less crowds, great history, and you feel like you're really back in the old days. Don't get me wrong you need to see the Alamo, but if a tourist trap is not your thing then visit the Missions instead. I do however, highly recommend seeing the Alamo at least once.

If you’re visiting San Antonio, you MUST visit the Alamo. I must admit, it wasn’t on my list at first during my visit, but I’m glad I ended up going. My history of the Alamo was limited at best. I just knew that the Texans lost. So being able to learn the history and walk the Alamo grounds first hand was definitely something. I plan to research this place even more to gain to a deeper understanding and respect.
