Really liked their Panini. Luigi and Caprese panini was vegetarian and was very good. It is lite on spice, fresh, healthy and very filling. Definitely highly recommend to give this place a try. We also tried 2-flavored gelato - chocolate and goat cheese caramel, it was okayish, but we will surely try more flavors if we come by again.

Stopped by for a quick dessert on a Friday night. There's about 5 tables inside, a small sitting area, and a small table outside. Most were just eating ice cream, so the tables were clearing out quickly. They have paninis and other small bites, but ordered the gelato. Ordered the small as the scoops are very large and you're able to pick two flavors with the small. Gelato was extremely fresh, creamy, and rich like a gelato is supposed to be. This was great as other places claim it's gelato, but is really just regular ice cream. Was a nice place to have a dessert while out in Southtown. Service was fast and tables cleared out faster than expected.

I first heard of South Alamode from a recent visit to Little Em’s Oyster Bar. I remembered our server mentioning that the sorbets served there were from South Alamode. We were at another restaurant last night for dinner and decided to stop by after to check it out. My husband particularly loves gelato so we were curious how it compares to another place we’ve had their gelato recently. The biggest pluses were the creaminess of the flavors and the more generous portion size of their small cups (which was the size of a coffee cup). In addition, this gelato didn’t melt as quickly so you didn’t have to worry about having to eat it fast. For the small cup, we had the choice of 2 flavors. My husband had the strawberry lavender sorbet and mango sorbet. I had the strawberries and cream and amaretto chocolate chunk. On the downside, there are limited parking spots so my husband couldn’t go in to check it out and they do not offer samples (there’s a sign). Not sure if it’s due to covid or has always been no tasting. The person in front of me wanted to sample a flavor and the server simply asked them if they wanted that in a small cup. Nicely handled! Maybe next time we could park by Halcyon and have a more leisurely time.

Awesome place to sit with your family and enjoy some homemade italian ice cream. I tried the panini Mela Dai. And even though I was skeptical about the green apple and turkey combination, I must admit it was delicious. The caffeine latte is also great, not too white, and not too dark. The establishment has a nice vibe. It smells fresh and clean when walking in, and the bathrooms are also clean. This tells me that the owner and workers have a lot of pride in this business

A small size should be all you need, as it comes with two flavors and is big enough to finish workout wanting more. There is a good variety of interesting flavors of Gelato and sherbet to choose from.

This place is a great little taste of Italy right here in San Antonio. Amazing Gelato made in house! The Paninis boast delicious flavors with ingredients shipped straight from Italy. Let your taste buds travel abroad without leaving the comfort of your own town.

Their products are so good! The raspberry sorbet, strawberry lavender, and goat cheese cashew and caramel flavors are all great choices. You can't have it just once.

My favorite gelato/ ice cream place in San Antonio. The vibe and atmosphere is nice and the flavors will have second guessing your choice because they are delightful to the tongue and soul.

Got the goat cheese & cashew flavor plus the Mexican vanilla flavor. Really good texture and you can tell they use high quality ingredients. I highly recommend the goat cheese flavor if you are a big fan of the cheese. Mexican vanilla is also unique from traditional vanilla flavor!

I am a huge gelato fan and this place definitely lived up to the hype. Staff was nice (they were dressed as Vikings for Halloween!) and helped me get out of my comfort zone with the goat cheese and cashew flavor. I don't mind goat cheese, but in gelato? The flavor was toned down more than I thought it would be and the cashew and caramel elevate it to a different level. Also chose Ricotta and Blackberry (subtle sweetness and smooth) and il goloso (Marscapone Gelato with chocolate, hazelnut, and caramel). Each tasted great, but feel that the next visit I should balance my three flavor combo by replacing one with a chocolate/sweeter flavor. Great place for finisher to the night and can't wait to bring my girls here

This food was delicious as always. Ice cream is amazing and they even got sparkling water if you wanna feel like you’re in Firenze. I had a Luigi Panini. She had a sottobosco. Both fantastic.

Great gelato, sandwich wasn’t what I was expecting! Parking is limited and car not visible from store. Great location because you can walk along or sit by the river.

Great gelato! Paninis looked great but we didn’t have them. Panini selection was pretty limited so check it out ahead of time.

"à la mode" is a French term that translates "in the current fashion". Gelatos and sorbets have a luscious intensity of unique flavors that change often. Cozy Italian cafe atmosphere. Don't leave with out trying one of their delicious Paninis made with meats and cheeses imported directly from Italy. Friendly staff and plenty of parking

Seems like a nice place with ample indoor space and different varieties of paninis and a decent variety of gelato… but the one that I tried did not taste like gelato at all. It was very grainy, watered down flavor, and had a weird aftertaste (I wasn’t able to figure out what odd aftertaste it had). My spouse had the same experience. The person servicing the establishment was amicable and the seating area looked clean.

Don’t let some of the hourly employees deter you from checking this place out. The shop is fantastic with even better products within. I think it beats out all other on pure gelato…so currently our favorite. Must go!
