Historic cathedral in the middle of San Antonio downtown. Didnt get a chance to go inside the cathedral (which is still active). We did see the 'Saga' a sound and light show describing some of the history of the area. It was fun to watch but is a one time watch - plenty of seating and standing area near the cathedral to watch the show. Times are Tue, Fri, Sat, Sun - 9pm, 9:30pm, and 10pm

Although we didn't go inside, the outside is magnificent! We attended "The Saga" which is a lader light show shown on the front of the cathedral Friday & Saturday nights at 9pm and it too is very well done! There's a park across the street with limited seating and no bathrooms. But bathrooms are within walking distance at local eateries. Try and attend this for a once in a lifetime viewing! ♿️

We weren't able to see much of the inside of the cathedral because mass was in progress when we got there. We were able to see the resting place of the heroes of the Alamo just inside the entrance. The highlight was coming back at 9PM to see the light show on the exterior of the cathedral. This was truly impressive, the show lasted a little over 20 minutes and with lights, animations, and music told the story of San Antonio from prehistoric to modern times. The quality of the show was amazing and perfectly executed. This is a must see in San Antonio!

This is by far the most beautiful church I have seen for many years. We have travelled since November 2021 from Canada. This church is on the route of the hop on hop off tour bus company in San Antonio. It is a bit of a walk from the bus stop; however, it is so worth the walk! There are amazing stained glass windows, a truly beautiful altar and there is so much to see, terrazzo marble floors, an amazing altar, a huge pipe organ, wonderful statues, spectacular ceilings, ornate columns. The cathedral still holds services, weddings, funerals. I was awed by the reverent silence and the magnificence of the building. The architecture is spectacular. Thank you for preserving this building so we may all enjoy it!

It is such a beautiful and peaceful church. You can tell they put a lot of money into it. It is air conditioned and you can take a few moments in your day to worship there. I also saw a place for daily confession. I gave the cathedral 4/5 stars for the cafeteria. The food is a little pricey given the quality of it.

Pretty neat to see in person as its as beautiful as it is in the pictures. Very historic and walking distance from the river walk. A must see if in town visiting. Visit at night to see the great light show!

Beautiful church, undergoing some construction out front. The inside of the cathedral was amazing! We were in the day after the service for the fallen Pope. Very somber feeling. Amazing to see the pipe organ! Beautiful cathedral backdrop! Just amazing! Glad we walked to see it.

I review catholic churches from time to time in my travels and I give a rating system for certain criteria which typically follows the GERM / my opinion . It should also be noted that I only went to mass here once on travel. Architecture: Upon first examination the church looks to have deep roots and history with it. The double towers give this church a similar look with the cathedral of Notre dame. Externally it is quite beautiful. Internally the first thing that catches your eye is the glorious tabernacle which is awesome. The other things that stuck out were the many statues of saints and the beautiful stain glass. 10/10 Tabernacle location: It so obvious that Christ is at the front and center of this church. The magnificent golden tabernacle surrounded by the awesome golden high alter is to wonder at. 10/10 Kneeling: kneelers we’re present and people didn’t kneel during the appropriate times at the mass. 10/10 Reference: The parish seems to cultivate a holy and contrite attitude. 10/10 Community: Seems to be vibrant church - I went on a Saturday evening and it was 60% full. Probably mostly tourists, but unsure of that. Hard to give a true sense of the community that are frequent goers here. no score /N/A Homily: The priest here was holy. He gave a simple yet poignant message that we all need to put Christ at the center of our lives. It was relevant and connected with the gospel. I could tell he was humble and reverent. 10/10 Kiss of peace: They do allow for kiss of peace, but it was short and appropriate. 10/10 Holding hands during our father: Was present here, but it wasn’t drawn out or distracting. 9/10 Clapping/birthday announcements: None. 10/10 Overall seems to be great church with respectful participation of the liturgy. Would come back again if in San Antonio. Total score: 69/70

I visited San Antonio in 2018 while attending ASTRO conference and took many pictures during this time. I thoroughly enjoyed spending some time reflecting on things and life in the Cathedral. It's beautiful and many people gather in the square in front of the church for various communal activities. Enjoy the pictures!

The cathedral is religiously gorgeous! We attended the Saturday vigil mass and view the architecture afterwards. Many religious artifacts and glass arts were donated by generous people. It is very fascinating to witness the prayer room and able to stand at the heart of San Antonio!

We came for the laser show they put on for Cinco de Mayo. It was a cool show and we’re glad that we came. They put it on around dusk. Kids liked it as well and awesome plaza and park in front. Seating is hard to come by so arrive early or plan on sitting on the ground or standing the whole time.

I’m a wedding photographer and I shot a wedding here in the spring. It’s beautiful! The cathedral is surprisingly well lit inside and well kept. It’s beautiful inside and outside with minimal wear considering it’s age and location. They have event halls next door for beautiful events as well. The only drawback is that anyone can walk up to the beautiful face of the church so when you exit - people tend to yell things to you or the newlyweds. It can get crowded and we had a few people trying to get inside during the ceremony. The employees working the venue and church were great at keeping them outside though.

Beautiful Cathedral both inside and out. The appearance is gorgeous. There is a tomb inside the left entrance that holds the remains of the four lead defenders at the Alamo.

The state offers a free guided tour. The tour does not go through the church, as it is a functioning church. But it does tour the grounds, learn history, what was original to the site, etc. Would recommend going. It was beautiful and educational in an interesting way. Great photo opportunities. If interested, anyone may attend Sunday services. There is also a small gift shop.

Absolutely stunning church! The story behind the church is truly incredible. I love the structure and style. Mostly how beautiful everything inside looks. May our lord continue to bless everyone in this crazy world. Have a wonderful new year 2023.

✝️ Beautiful Historical Site ✝️ Perhaps most renowned for being the resting place of the Alamo heroes, Cathedral of San Fernando should be on every tourists’s itinerary of stops. This medium-sized cathedral boasts beautiful colors, architecture, and atmosphere. From the statue of San Antonio out front, to the relics on display within, there are many artifacts to witness in person. Photographers will marvel at the silhouettes, balance, and alignment within. The cathedral allows visitors to respectfully approach the altar, which must be seen up close in all its rich detail. Because services are held here and many come to pray during daylight hours, a respectful silence is asked of all who enter. I visited around Christmastime when the cathedral had a “history of Texas” projection in the front of the cathedral. If you get the opportunity to see it, don’t miss out!

Beautiful architecture that's a historical part of San Antonio. Definitely worth a visit if you're are in the area. Has a Memorial Tomb for the "Texas Heros" who died during The Alamo Battle. A peaceful place no matter your faith.

The place was stunning and those Angels voices were heavenly. But a staff member was not. She pulled out on African American boy in the choir and he did nothing. And starred with just hate and contempt and biased at me. Her peculiar actions was distracting from the Holiness of the place. I hope they are compassionate and caring for our children especially the African American ones. Times like these we are supposed to be faithful and fervent as well as watchful with balance. She didn’t know me or anyone else in there. Relax and if you were of God. You would know that, that is not Gods spirit influencing people and stealing peoples joy. I was rushed along as well when asking for prayer. It was cold and calloused. I’m praying for our children. God bless us all, it was still amazing and Gods life still shines bright through the bias. Judge not and ye shall not be judged. Nobody’s mouth is a prayer book. Except God. Respectfully & Sincerely,
