Please stay away from this hospital. They requested the patient to put the €500 ‘deposit’ upfront and won’t be able to confirm the final cost of the treatment until you have finished the treatment! It is not ethical to practise as a public hospital with all the hidden costs. Please be made aware that it costed €290 just to speak to the nurse (not even the doctor who doesn’t even speak English)! It is a joke. You can find other private practise which has clearly set out the initial cost in order to allow the patient to make a decision before proceeding. It is proven that this hospital put profitability as their priority and safety is second place (they might not even care)?
It has nearly been a year since I was at the hospital. In my 4 weeks stay until I was air lifted back to the UK in an air ambulance I was treated and cared for by the wonderfull doctors and nurses for my various conditions using their expertise. My only complaint and reason for 4 stars was the food without any choices, but they did have a superb canteen which I was a regular visitor with my wife.
Fantastic!! My mom broke her foot and we couldn’t have asked for better and faster help! Within 2 hours we had gotten help and she had a cast on, ready to leave. Much thanks to their amazing translator (A very nice Norwegian lady) thank you so much for making a horrible situation easy and struggle free!
I had an accident on December 21st and immediately informed the ambulance service that I had a potential spinal injury. Despite this, the paramedics instructed me to *walk* to the ambulance, completely disregarding standard protocols for spinal injuries. I was taken to San Roque Hospital, where the care was equally substandard. Despite my condition, no proper spinal injury procedures were followed. I was asked to move from a trolley to the x-ray machine on my own, and later, again to the CT scan machine. This was after the x-ray confirmed that I had a spinal fracture. Such actions could have worsened my injury significantly. The communication throughout my stay was poor. There were no clear instructions on what I should or should not do, leaving me confused and concerned about my condition. This lack of guidance further added to the anxiety of an already traumatic situation. After two days in the hospital, I was given a *soft corset* and told to wear it for a month with “moderate rest.” This advice was shockingly diffrent to this one I was given back n the UK. I also asked for copies of my imaging, I emailed the hospital three times but received no response. This lack of communication and accountability is unacceptable. Upon returning to the UK, I had to undergo all imaging tests again because the hospital failed to provide the necessary documentation. The doctors here were appalled by the lack of clarity regarding the stability of my injury. Without an MRI, there was no way to ensure my ligament was intact, and had it been damaged, the consequences could have been devastating. In the UK, I was provided with a TSLO brace (a hard spinal brace) and informed that I needed to wear it for 12 weeks. The contrast in care was stark. How San Roque Hospital felt it was safe for me to fly without a proper brace or thorough assessment (MRI) is beyond comprehension. That said, I want to acknowledge that some of the nurses were kind and helpful, especially a male nurse who assisted me on the day I was admitted (unfortunately, I don’t recall his name). His professionalism and compassion were among the few positives in an otherwise harrowing experience. This experience was not only frustrating but also potencially dangerous. I strongly advise anyone seeking care to consider other options and urge the hospital to seriously review its protocols for handling emergencies, particularly spinal injuries.
Barbaric hospital. I took my sister here with a broken leg and a broken cast digging into her wound. The staff were rude and treated us differently because we weren’t private patients, making us wait much longer than others. The nurse was especially aggressive—yelling at my sister, calling her a “drama queen,” and physically forcing her to roll over despite her being in severe pain. She even threatened her with physical violence when my sister asked if she could stay seated, as she usually does during cast changes. We explained multiple times that she was in pain and couldn’t move easily, but the nurse showed zero compassion. Thankfully, my sister got better treatment at a different hospital. What happened here was disturbing, and she’s still in shock from being physically attacked by a nurse. The picture of the nurse is attached. I would never trust a hospital like this again. If profit is their only priority, who knows what else they’d be willing to do—maybe even steal and sell organs on the black market. Disgusting cowards. I hope the police look into them.
Aggressive and unprofessional staff, definitely don’t go alone. Nurses would get aggressive if you needed to be explained something and doctor seemed bored and irritated. Worst hospital I’ve ever been to, I recommend literally any other hospital on this island.
Following a fall on 2nd day of my holiday, I was taken to San Roque Hospital Maspalomas where I received excellent care and attention for 2 fractures to my right leg. Due to language barrier, I didn't realise I had been given pain relief prescription on discharge day. This was resolved, thanks to our JET2 rep back at our accommodation. Overall, I thank all staff and doctors etc for looking after me during my short stay in hospital last week. The doctor who issued my 'fit to fly' certificate was quite taken with my Scottish accent. Not every hospital has bilingual staff however everyone including me done what we could to communicate.
This hospital is a disgrace. Staff are rude and abrupt. Brought my daughter in with a severe pain in her back. They did a blood test and we waited over three hours. When we asked why it was taking so long they said they were waiting for the results of the urine test, which was a test they hadn't even done. And never, ever go to this hospital if it is a festivo because everything comes to a standstill. No scans.. No xrays.. Barely any staff. The doctor couldn't tell my daughter what was wrong and told her to make an appointment with her own doctor to have a scan done.. Which would probably have taken weeks..in the end we came to Insular in Las Palmas were she was attended to in a professional matter.. Which you would expect from a proper hospital, which San Roque clearly isn't. And to whomever responds to these reviews, don't bother telling me to contact your complaints department as I have seen the disgusting reply you sent my sister when she complained about her treatment in your hospital. She was left with no food or water for FOUR days because your doctors had festivo and nobody could be bothered to attend to her for two days.
Dreadful place. I am English, speak Spanish and live on this island. Sent here for an urgent X-Ray, I was greeted by hostility because they’re getting no money for my case. I explained the the original point of pain no longer hurt. It had moved from my knee to my foot. Would they examine this? “No. You’re booked for a right knee radiograph. That is all we will do!” About 1 hour later, “We cannot find any debris under you knee-cap. You can leave now. Goodbye!” “Anything for the pain?” “Yes, here’s a prescription but you’ve got to pay for it!” “Why?” “Because anything we prescribe, we want paying for”
I arrived at the Emergency check in and the first question the rude lady (long wavy light brown hair) asked me why I did not speak Spanish. Very astonishing for a hospital that makes most of their money off tourists. I chose to leave.
Very unorganized. Unnecessarily complicated to make an appointment. The staff gives contradictive informations and they are not friendly. Went to get my second yearly appointment to get a proactive body scan to keep an eye on moles, to prevent skin cancer. For the second time, they insisted to have an consultation first an then the test. We know that's not necessary since all our data and journals are already in the system. Waste of time and money.
My husband Alan has been receiving care here in ICU. What can I say other than a massive Thank you to all the care on ICU. Without expertise my husband Alan would not be here today. The consultants and nursing team admin staff I have spoken to have been nothing but kind and understanding. I can only give you five stars as there is no more but you all do a fantastic job and deserve more 👏 Huge thank you from Alan Chisholm wife family and friends.x
Referred from a local medical centre for XRay following a fall. It was very busy when we arrived at the Emergency room, the reception staff were competent and efficient, we were shown to a waiting area, it took about an hour to be seen by a doctor which seemed very reasonable given there were more urgent cases arriving. Small point of complaint was the call screens in the waiting area were obscured by a computer error message which no-one thought to clear. Process of examination , x ray, treatment and repeat x ray was well managed and the clinicians were able to communicate effectively. Advised to attend for a "fit to fly" examination and certificate after 48 hrs for which a charge was payable. As we had all our GHIC and travel insurance information with us there was no problem or undue delay.
Severe damage on Elbow, and got operation. April 2024 All went well, implant in elbow , No English from doctors, but translator, English and also a Norwegian was most of time. My Hospital i Norway says the procedure I got in San Roche was very different from Norwegian standard, almost "Exprimential"..? However it healed fast and is flexion ans supination is now aprox 90 % - I am 60 years old. I did not know various countrys have so different surgical procedures with this kind of injury. Hospital was very clean and all staff seemed very proffesional. They wanted a confirmation from insurance company before starting, OK I guess.
