The Dunes has got to be one of the most amazing sights I have ever seen. I was in such awe of this place. Amazing how nature just forms the sand dunes and just how different they form from day to day. At first I was intimidated by the height but after running down the side of one it was just way too much fun. The sand is so soft, you can just sit and enjoy the sunrise or sunset & the view will always be different. If you visit this area you must make your way here & take in the experience of the first morning view of the untouched sand, you will not be disappointed.

Imagine that you are in a place where you can completely relax and forget about everything. You can sit and admire the beauty of the natural dunes overlooking the sea and feel like you are in the Sahara for a moment. Beautiful place. I recommend👍

Very unique place on the island. Worth a visit for sure, but we had seen plenty after walking through the dunes from Meloneras to Playa Del Ingles. It's a fun walk but come prepared and don't go on the hottest day of the week. There is some nice roads through the dunes that you can follow or you can go your own way through the hills of sand and explore if you want. There is also the beach around the edge towards the sea which is very popular but plenty of space for everyone.

These are a wonderful expanse of sand dunes that form part of a nature reserve. I read they extend to about 980 acres and certainly they are vast. We spent a couple of hours walking along the roped off paths between them and enjoying them as well as plenty of lovely photo opportunities. Part of the dunes were destroyed back in the 70’s and flora and wildlife lost but the island has a project to reinstate them over time. They sit behind Maspalomas beach so we walked past them first on the beach then walked up the far side (west) and up the back and through them again. We visited on a late Saturday afternoon and were slightly disturbed by the amount of male “cruising”, pairing and going behind bushes that was going on around one of the central paths of the sand- dunes as so obvious what was going on.

Really nice place to visit, right next to the beach. The sand dunes are stunning. You can walk them easily but sand is extremely hot, make sure you have appropriate footwear.

Breathtaking place! We arrived around 5-6ish in the evening and it wasn’t so crowded, couple minutes walk and we were by ourselves in the middle of “desert”! Beware walking from Maspalomas Beach to the dunes , as part of the beach is nudist.

Awe inspiring, a must if you're in Gran Canaria. We walked straight out from the RIU Palace entrance and made our way to the sea. The distance was probably not more than 1-1,5 km but it felt longer - bring water! Beautiful views. Once we reached the sea we went bathing, the waves and currents were very strong though, so be advised.

Amazing place! Highly recommended. Apparently the sand was imported from Morrocco. No entrance fee is required. We went there around first week of May. It was sunny and warm in the afternoon, but the temperature drops really quickly, so make sure to bring a coat

Very cool, desert like area with a nature conservation space. Nice for photos and a difficult walk across the dunes. I recommend sun cream and plenty water.

Ah, the Dunes of Maspalomas – a natural wonderland surrounded by a sea of humanity. The dunes, like misunderstood celebrities, stand proudly, overshadowed by the swarm of camera-touting tourists. It's a spectacle where Mother Nature plays second fiddle to the real stars of the show: the sunburned Brits, the meticulously organized Germans, the perpetually confused Americans, and the effortlessly cool Nordics. You can practically hear the dunes whispering, "Please, let us have a moment of sand solitude!" But no, the human tide is relentless, armed with selfie sticks and an unquenchable thirst for Instagram fame. As you navigate this sandy circus, it becomes evident that the dunes are the true VIPs, patiently enduring the invasion of sun-worshipping tribes. It's like a nature reserve for the common tourist, where the only endangered species is the concept of solitude. But, dear visitor, fear not – amidst the parade of sun hats and the symphony of "I left the sunscreen in the hotel" regrets, the dunes stand tall, their majestic beauty competing with the dazzling display of designer sunglasses and beachwear. So, if you fancy a day in the desert surrounded by the epitome of mainstream tourism, the Dunes of Maspalomas await, where the sand might be golden, but the real gems are the sun-soaked, materialistic wanderers.

I guess the most interesting thing about Maspalomas? I personally hate sand... It's course and irritating and it gets everywhere... 😂 No but seriously :) when you're there and haven't seen a desert yet, go check it out More on my YouTube channel Lex Universe

Such a surreal place. It's absolutely worth visiting. The sand is perfect for barefoot walks around this area. After the exhausting walk in the soft sand the sea is waiting for a refreshment.

A piece of the desert on this wonderful island. The proximity to the beach (the water effectively wraps around the dunes from 3 sides) makes it very refreshing to go for a swim after exploring the dunes. Highly recommended!

A beautiful natural wonder located in the southern part of Gran Canaria. It covers 400 hectares. It is a combination of active dunes, an oasis, a beautiful beach by the Atlantic Ocean. It is surrounded by the famous resort of Maspalomas. I also recommend a leisurely walk along the ocean with a view of the stunts of the kite surfers

A must do and see! The view is amazing. Countless sand dunes, the sand is warm and easy to walk through. You can enjoy the sunset there, just bring something warm with you 😉 You will find a path to enter the access but you can get there throughout the way.

This is s very unique place of the world. You have to visit it if you are in Gran Canaria. We walked the dunes and met with fully naked people in many places. If you are with kids beware of them.

Breath-taking. Mesmerizing. Best to visit a few 1-2hrs before sunset so that it's still bright but not too hot to explore the dunes. Definitely the number one must-see if you visit Gran Canaria

We visited Maspalomas Dunes around midday by bus. The dunes were great, and luckily, it wasn't too crowded. The sand was hot, but that didn't deter from the experience. One thing to consider is that the nearby beach isn't very family-friendly due to many people walking around without covering up in a public place. Keep this in mind if you are planning to visit.

Simply beautiful at sunset or sunrise! During day even night ! When you’re on island you must go through to experience this desert like place . We’ve parked near Avenida De Alemania and walked through the dunas to the beach. It’s about 20min tough walk if you’re with young kids . And sun + 30 degrees doesn’t help 🥵. But it was well worth it .

At the beginning there are restaurants and establishments to buy water or what you may need. There are also many people practicing water sports. A must visit on Gran Canaria. It’s very interesting how those sand dunes were formed next to the coast and are still moving from from east to west. A Perfect walk if you want the desert experience and don’t the sand and wind :) the beautiful view and stunning scenery makes the perfect spot for photos :)

One of the most beautiful sites in Gran Canaria, unique and very special. Magical sunsets fulfilled by a red & orange fire-colour extended troughtout all the clouds around. This is one of the best places to see a sunset within the Island!

A natural wonder in Gran Canaria, endless golden sands! Feels like extension of Sahara and makes you think how this has actually formed! There are even hypotheses around tsunamis that might have brought the sand … This is tranquil oasis and natural beauty! A lot of fun for kids too!

Gran Canaria: The desert by the sea Photo 1: The dunes of Maspalomas How much I miss traveling! I know you can start over, but there is always a certain don't know what fear, which makes you stay in your home state, makes you a little worried about what might happen in a foreign country. And so, while waiting to find courage, the last real holiday trip I took comes to mind, that of December 2019 to the Canary Islands, which I have told, but not enough. The beautiful island of Gran Canaria has revealed some of its many faces to us. One of these that most fascinated me is the desert by the sea. In those days we stayed in the beautiful H10 Meloneras Palace hotel and on closer inspection we could have always stayed in the hotel with all the comforts available, but we are travelers and not just tourists, we must see, explore the places we visit. And the first place we visit, several times and at different times, with different lights, is the site of the Maspalomas dunes, practically the Sahara transported to the seashore. This is what was believed until a few years ago, that the wind had brought this sand from Africa and had accumulated in an area of about 4 km2 including a lagoon and a palm grove. But recent studies have come to the conclusion that the dunes did not exist before 1700 and that their formation seems to be due to the devastating Lisbon earthquake of 1755 which caused a devastating seaquake or tsunami, which also reached the coasts of the Canaries, devastating the coasts and the cities but also generating the sand dunes of Maspalomas. Now they are a place of unparalleled beauty, where you can savor the desert experience without incurring its dangers. This is just the first surprise of Gran Canaria and I wish you to be able to visit it and fully enjoy the beauty and diversity of the places and natural environments. Photo 2: The dunes of Maspalomas Photo 3: The dunes of Maspalomas reach a maximum of 20 meters in height, but walking fills the legs with fatigue, imagine in the real desert! Photo 4: The dunes of Maspalomas before dawn Photo 5: The dunes of Maspalomas at dawn Photo 6: The dunes of Maspalomas after sunrise Photo 7: The dunes of Maspalomas in the morning Photo 8: Maspalomas dunes, the highest before sunrise Photo 9: The dunes of Maspalomas and its lagoon with palm grove, in the background the mountains that are another feature of Gran Canaria

We had an amazing day here walking over the stunning sand dunes and along the beach. We walked from the view point along the back and promenade to the cafes at the beach then along the shore line towards the lighthouse. It was fun running up the dunes and standing on the top of some of them. You could see the wind blowing interesting patterns on the floor and see the sand coming towards you. The sand blowing in your face stang a bit, so make sure you wear sunglasses to keep it out of your eyes. When we got home our clothes were full of sand. It was so hot you needed plenty of sun screen and water to drink. Their was life guard and first aid stations and it was lovely listening and watching the waves crash up the pebbly beach. If you are easily offended by people on the nudist beaches I would suggest you walk at the back away from the beach. Definetly worth a visit to the place where some films have been made. Their are cafes and bars at either end of the walk. We took it very slow over 2 hours.

Great place to visit. I would have loved to see the sunset but too misty. You can park near the RUI hotel, walk through the hotel outside foyer and along the well marked path to the beach / sand dunes. Lots of places to sit. They like you to stay to the paths on the sand dunes.

This place was beyond my imagination, it was like heaven. The view included a mixture of mountains, sea, and sand. It was insane!! I walked it to the dunas, it was about 20 minutes walk. The only unpleasant experience u may face is walking through the nudes beach, when you’re the only one on clothes.

One of the best places to visit in Gran Canary. I walked across the dunes, what an experience. It's amazing how the dunes are formed naturally. You feel like being in the middle of a dessert. Lovely views and unique pictures spots. You shouldn't miss this experience if on Gran Canaria.

This is a magnificent place near Maspalomas! We spent a week there and we could see the Dunes from the window and terrace of our apartment! It was simply lovely! Nice, sandy beaches on the shore of the Atlantic ocean! For a moment, you can imagine the vast dunes of Desert Sahara!

Magical place at any time of the day. Recommend to walk along the paved beach promenade, you get a good view from there and no sand in your shoes. But of course, to feel the sand under your feet is great too. It's possible to cross the dunes and walk from Maspalomas to Meloneras.

I would recommend coming in from the visitor centre side as oppose to the lighthouse side which involves a much longer walk. You also go via a nudist area that way too which might not be appropriate for kids. Dunes are a wonderful art created by nature and here you can wander easily along them. Worth a visit from anywhere in Gran Canaria

Maspalomas dunes. Take off your shoes and enjoy the warm sand. It looks like a place from your imagination, especially when you arrive from the dark northern winter. You can park your car for free in the neighborhood's streets and walk to the park.
