Wonderful experience for everybody. Even if you are not interested in astronomy at all, maybe you will start then a bit. Or at least you will spend a great time with people explaining and showing the universe with passion. "Must see" attraction on Gran Canaria.

Simply magical. This is a enchanting tour into a remote part of the island to watch the sunset in a stunningly beautiful valley, followed by an informative but not difficult introduction to finding your way around some key constellations and astronomical objects in Gran Canaria's famously fantastic night sky. It's just so full of stars as there is almost no light pollution. Our expert Tony amazed, amused, entertained and informed in excellent English and Spanish, anchoring our experience in constellations Orion, Cassiopeia, the beautiful Pleiades and the Big Dipper, then helping us find our way to the North Star, all with the naked eye. Then we used the big telescope to explore nebulae, open clusters and even other galaxies, before enjoying the full moon as it rose above the horizon. I learned so much. What a great night! I absolutely recommend AstroGC to give you an unforgettable, fun and magical experience of looking up at our galaxy and beyond from one of the best stargazing spots on planet Earth.

Amazing experience! The whole team was very organized and helpful from the beginning, coordinating pick-up and providing updates on the weather forecast to select the best date for the workshop. The place where the experience takes place is beautiful, up in the mountains, a side of the island you don't normally get to see! The workshop itself was really good, the team is knowledgeable and answers every question, you get to do unique star exploration and learn a lot of fun facts! Very recommended!

We travelled up into the Canarian mountains. We had crystal clear skies and zero light pollution. The Milky Way shined bright and detailed above us. We saw Jupiter with its stripes and moons. Saturn and the rings, it was so clear you could see between the planet and the rings. We saw nebulae and a globular cluster and a binary star system. And we saw galaxies whose light took 12 million years to reach us here tonight. Highlight of the holiday. Amazing night.

What a fun experience! Pickup was on time, good covid meassures and a friendly greeting. The tour went up into the mountains where we did a quick pitstop to see the sunset before stopping at a secluded area. Almost no light polution made the workshop wonderful. We got to see several planeten, stars and nebulas. I highly recommend the tour! Manged to take a couple pictures with my mobilephone

I can't express how breathtaking the whole excursion was when my other half and I took part during our holiday to Maspolomas. We booked the trip the day before we went, Gauthier was very professional and got in contact with me very quickly even though I had connection issues and was patient and friendly with me. The whole experience started with us getting picked up from our hotel at the exact time we agreed on in a professional business van, a 9-seater kitted out to drive passengers up into the beautiful valleys of the island. Our driver and one of the teachers for the night, Carmelo, was a super professional, friendly guy with a great sense of humour, he made sure we were comfortable and had an excellent experience the whole time we were there. The van takes you up narrow winding serpentines all the way up the valley stopping by at a beautiful view point to see the sun set. After the sun set we got back in the van and we're taken to a well chosen destination to explore the sky with large 1.8m telescopes, starting with breathtakingly clear views of the moon. We then got to explore objects in the sky like the Orion's constellation, excellent to see during this time of the year, alongside an amazing telescope view of Orion's nebula, all of the visible planets in the sky, and other amazing deep sky objects (I don't want to spoil the experience for you). We were extra lucky to see Skylink pass us, as well as the ISS, including the once every 50,000 year comet C/2022 on the telescope. We had presentations of meteorites, a projector presentation, and everything was laid out and explained super clearly. We left the night with an abundance of awesome information, taught to us by Carmelo and Tony, two very professional and knowledgeable individuals operating two large telescopes ensuring everyone got to see as much as possible. We want to thank you guys for providing this experience for us. We will definitely be recommending you guys to everyone we know who goes to Gran Canaria in the future! Saul and Laura.

Loved it! Very well organised tour. Sebastian was friendly and knowledgeable. Well recommended for anyone who wants to do something different in a natural setting. Learnt a thing or two about astronomy too!

Beautiful scenery on the journey up the cliffs as sunset approached. Tucked away in a secluded spot, the night sky lit up and an arm of the Milky Way galaxy (in which the Solar System lies) emerged like a trail of hazy fog way above. Through a large, custom-made telescope Saturn and Jupiter, with four of its largest moons, appeared. Nebulae and star clusters and galaxies like Andromeda put on a show for eager eyes. Taurid meteors flew past while many, manmade satellites played hide-and-seek. It was a magical evening with Gauthier and Francesco leading the way as our drivers and guides. Thank you very much for having us that night; we were fortunate that the weather was calm, clear and mild.

Great experience, very interesting and enjoyable! Gauthier was very friendly and helpful. An easy pickup from our hotel, a drive through the scenic mountains and insightful evening watching starts. Thank you!

Excellent evening stargazing with a very professional, knowledgeable and friendly expert. Sebastian was also a wonderful driver, very important on the roads we travelled. It took a while for my eyes to adjust but looking at the dust clouds in the orion nebula (I hope I have got that right) was an experience of a lifetime. Many thanks.

This was an amazing experience, Tony, our driver and guide was delightful and knowledgeable. We went to the most beautiful places, and saw some amazing towns and views. Both guides really care that we get to see the objects in the sky and will not settle for less. Will definitely go again once I'm back

This tour was the highlight of our trip to Gran Canaria, it was wonderful in the mountains at night looking through a telescope at the sky, whilst the full moon was in view! The guide was knowledgeable, friendly, kind and excellent with children. The extra snippets of local information and history from the guide was also very interesting. A truly magical experience for all our family.

I’ve done two of these workshops now, and they are a fantastic way to spend a fun, interesting and entertaining evening. AstroGC have this down to a fine art, and their guides are knowledgable and entertaining. You get to see parts of Gran Canaria you don’t normally visit, and it’s nice to meet new people too. Love it, and highly recommend it!

Absolutely recommended to anyone, regardless of experience. Gauthier has a very well organized workshop, from pickup to dropoff. It was also quite surprising the amount of languages that are spoken between Gauthier and Tony. Thanks for the banter in Portuguese Tony 😄 Additionally, as someone that does not have these amazing viewing conditions at home, I used the opportunity to also take my camera and tripod with me, for some astrophotography of my own. Thank you!

Gauthier and Sebastian were ever so kind and helpful, we ended up driving all the way up to Roque Nublo because of the clouds but had an excellent views of planets, Andromeda galaxy, a nebula or two and lots more. Gauthier has a PowerPoint and a laser pointer that shoots a line into the sky to point out the constellations, which was very cool. We love astronomy and this was everything we hoped it would be. Bring a snack, bring a coat.

I did the tour with Tony (and six others) by end of June and the whole evening/night was fantastic. He is so friendly, patient, very knowledgeable, and passionate... he answered every question. Already the drive up the mountain and the panorama stop are great, being in the quiet and peaceful nature. We set up camp on the first tier and watched a beautiful half moon with shadows across the crater crests near the light-dark border, saw mountains within the craters. Then while watching the short presentation on the agenda and what to expect above, thin clouds covered the sky. So we packed and went a level higher, then another one... and stood in total silence (except for some chirping and light cicada concerts) under a perfect clear starry sky. Quick assembly of the scope and then we saw a double galaxy, a red and blue double star constellation, a star cluster of 3000 suns, a ring nebula and more (all depends on time of year, of course, and brightness of the moon). This review is long, because I want to truly recommend this trip to everyone with at least basic interest in space and celestial objects. Pickups start roughly at 7pm for the Eastern hotels (St. Augustin), and 7:45 in Melonares, and latest drop-off is around 1am, maybe 12am if the sky at the first spot is already clear. Full thumbs up, guys, and thank you!

Date of trip 13th June 2023. We were recomended to take this workshop by our friends, who had been 4 or 5 years ago and we are so glad that we did. The whole evening was an unforgetable experience. Our guide, Tony, was knowledgeable, interesting and very informative with time for everyone and eager to teach us. What a brilliant trip for us and would urge anyone to this workshop. We are a tiny point in our Universe and there is so much more to learn and see. Thank you for opening our eyes.

Great experience. Everything on time if not early, everything was explained really well and the views at sunset as well as the astronomical objects seen were amazing. Our host Tony made everyone feel welcome and made the whole experience very enjoyable would recommend to anyone that wants a trip out or experience while in Gran Canaria.

Excellent evening with detailed descriptions of everything in the night sky. Very good observations with AstroGC's Dobsonian telescope. Tony kept everyone involved with questions and input during the whole evening, My photos attached taken with just a Canon DSLR camera, which shows how clear the sky was.

I had the best time with Sebastian and the group. He was so friendly, funny, genuine, and informative (he even gave me a local’s list of recommendations of things I should do for my final days here). We had a dust storm from the Sahara, so visibility was lower than it would normally be, but Sebastian still helped us see some incredible sights through his telescope. I highly recommend this to any and all who have a passion for viewing things beyond this tiny Little Rock we live on!

These guys are amazing. What an amazing experience this was. From pick up (which was on time on the second!), to the drive back and forth and the actual workshop. Super friendly, fun & educational. Great for adults and families with kids. The telescopes have great quality lenses. I am still in awe from the images of the moon and Saturn 🪐. A must experience when visiting the island.

I really enjoyed the experience. It was really basic, with just a few objects (around 6-8 of them) from the best in the season. But the place, the dark sky, and the guide was fantastic. The hand-made telescope that we used was really big, and had a fairly good image. I really recommend it!

One of the (many) highlights of my trip to Gran Canaria. Gauthier and his team have a very educational and entertaining tour to offer, and the view of the night sky in Gran Canaria is quite something. I got to see the rings around Saturn! The tour is appropriate for families with children. Had a fun time.

  • 5/5 Cassandra V. 3 years ago on Google
Super tour. Very good communication in advance, and during the tour everything very well taken care of. Unforgettable experience to see the milky way, nebula and planets in one of the least light polluted places in Europe. The explanation by Gauthier was very informative. Absolute must see when you're in Grand Canaria, or even a reason to go there!

What a brilliant night excursion. Gaulthier looked after our family so well (2 adults, 4 kids aged 8 - 13). After an incredible drive up the windy mountain roads of SW Gran Canaria with time to stop for the views, we reached our secluded viewing spot. The kids were able to help Gaulthier set-up the telescope and after a brief lecture on what we would be doing and seeing, it was time to view. We saw so many incredible things. The phases of Venus, twin star systems, ring and globular nebulas and the rings of Saturn. Gaulthier showed us how to align and move the telescope and how it all worked. All rounded off with a very fun quiz and a great photo to take away as a souvenir. It's quite a late night (8pm - 12:30pm) but absolutely worth it and such a great night out. Gaulthier's laser star pointer is worth 5 stars alone!

Thank you guys for this experience. We enjoyed it a lot. Carmelo gave us a lot of information on the way there and back which we loved. Thank you! Will recommend your stargazing to everyone.

A wonderfully enjoyable and educational stargazing experience in Gran Canaria. Gauthier and José obviously love what they do and do it well. The drive to the stargazing location was an experience in itself for anyone who doesn't hire a car when on the island. Thanks for a great evening guys.

This was a real success! We learned, in a fun way, about astronomy. The company was good with the information, friendly and creative. And we felt secure on the steepy roads up in the mountains. Thanks for a great experience!

Excellent tour which I recommend highly. Everything ran smoothly without problems from pick-up, timing, journey and stargazing. The tour is very good value too. Carmelo and Tony were excellent guides, friendly and informative at all stages. Group of interesting people from different parts of Europe and diverse ages. The views through the telescopes were amazing and we learned so much about the night sky, constellations, stars, planets. Would do again without doubt.

This astronomy trip was excellent. Tony is a great host and made me feel very welcome. The drive into the mountains is very interesting. It's steep and winding but the roads are good and Tony's driving was very careful and safe. It was wonderful just looking at the stars with no telescope away from the light pollution and we saw the Orion nebula the Pleiades and star clusters through the telescope. Recommended

This was well worth the money. Thoroughly enjoyed our trip picked up and dropped off at the door of our hotel. Company was great and the evening was amazing seeing such a beautiful sunset and then once dark seeing the planets, stars and even a galaxy. This was a very enjoyable and informative evening. Thank you to Carmelo for being such a great host

We were a family group of 7 and enjoyed the tour very much. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and took very good care of us, which was so helpful because two of our group have some trouble walking. He even provided additional jackets to us as it was colder than we assumed. We had not expected to see so much, it was really amazing to clearly see the ring around Saturn, the Andromeda galaxy or even the different colors of two stars (sorry, I forgot the names again ;-) ), unforgettable. We can definitely recommend the tour!

We had an absolutely fantastic evening with AstroGC. The drive there was interesting in itself taking in the beautiful valley of Mogan. Carmelo was our guide and he had so much to teach us. A very easy man to talk to with a lot of humour. The views of the night sky was simply amazing with views of Saturn, Jupiter, the Moon, Nebulae and globular clusters. I can absolutely recommend this to anyone.

A fantastic experience that was the highlight of our holiday. My 5 year old absolutely loved it and he can't wait to tell his teacher about it and show her his little piece of meteorite. Tony and Sebastian are really friendly and knowledagble people who have lots of time to answer your questions - communication from booking up until the day of the workshop was great and the trip up the mountain was an experience in itself! A brilliant night that we'll never forget - I don't think we'll be able to look at the night sky the same way again!

It was a pleasant astronomy excursion with a small group of eight people. Sebastian was our guide. He picked us up on-time at about 5 pm. After picking up the rest of the group, Sebastian drove us up to Mirador El Mulato. On the way, he gave us interesting information about the Mogan region. From Mirador El Mulato, we enjoyed the sunset behind the mountains and a nice view of the village Mogan down the valley. The location for star grazing was slightly up from there next to the reservoir Presa del Mulato. Sebastian gave a very nice tour of the night sky and took pictures of us with the night sky, which were shared later via email. There were three children (including our daughter) in the group. Sebastian knew very well how to engage them and keep them motivated. At the end, we all were given a meteorite rocks spotting exercise. From the group, only one succeeded in spotting them correctly. The children received a certified piece of meteorite rock as a token of remembrance. Sebastian drove us back to our place by 10.20 pm. Beside the excursion, the booking process over the web and interaction with Gauthier was smooth through emails and messages. The possibility of the excursion relies on weather. Each day Gauthier promptly informed whether the weather will be suitable for star gazing or not. This was helpful. As a whole, my family and I enjoyed the excursion.

This was a great find on our holiday. Communication was very easy and fast and we booked to go a day in advance. We went up into the mountains in a small group. As we waited for it to get dark and the telescope was set up, we learned about the night sky, constellations and how to find various stars and planets. We saw several very distant astronomical features like galaxies in different shapes. The tour guides are quite humorous, very knowledgeable and keep you interested and entertained. Wear long trousers and take a warm layer or 2 as it gets chilly even in summer. We got back home just after midnight.

Absolutely amazing tour and, as someone else has commented, well worth the price for the views up the mountain alone - stunning!! Carmelo was well versed on his knowledge of the areas we drove through, answering any questions we had about them and reassured any worries we had of driving up the narrow twisty mountain roads. The views when we got up to the meeting spot were phenomenal. The sun was setting to the SW and jupiter quickly became visible as we were so far from any light pollution. Regular phone cameras simply cannot capture how stunning the night sky was, which slowly started to appear behind us as we sat down listening to Carmelo give a presentation on the constellations, nebulas etc. we will see (jupiter, saturn, double stars, seven sisters etc…) Truly was a once in a lifetime experience for me and my city-dwelling boyfriend! We bought a meteorite fragment at the end to remember the occasion.

We had wonderful time on this trip, Tony and Sebastian we great guides and very knowledgable. Plus Tony has great taste in music for the drive up. Wow the drive up was worth the fee alone. Unbelievable views! The night sky was both beautiful and mind blowing given the distances explained! We have already recommended this excursion to others at the hotel. Once again thank you so much for a great memory of our holiday👍👍❤️❤️👍

Amazing night Carmelo knew his stuff, went on my own as my partner not that interested but was fine great group of people all interested in the subject . Saw the sun set from high in the mountains and then the moon rise above us across the mountains as well as other galaxies, stars, planets and the moon. Interesting, fun and informative and I personally could have stayed there all night. excellent value for money and would highly recommend this trip!

This was a fantastic experience! We saw Saturn, Andromeda, a ringed supernova, a veiled supernova and lots of constellations. Sebastian was incredibly knowledgeable and made sure we all had a good look through the telescope, making constant adjustments. Beautiful location in the mountains as well. I really recommend this tour.
