The place was quite quiet on a Sunday evening. The pub is not new by any means but cool atmosphere and awesome fish & chips. The batter was light and everything was fresh and tasted nicely. Friendly staff, good price, good beer and cider! A place to come back to on a Friday or Saturday night. Definitely had a great European feeling with NO blasting music! So great for hanging out with friends and having conversations without having to yell and hearing gibberish! ;-)

If your british this is not the place to go!! The place is actually quite an authentic british pub and although they try to be authentic with the food it was a complete fail.. The service was prompt and food came out fast but the Food was absolutely disgusting! The yorkshire pudding was chewy and tasted weird, the prime rib was full of fat, i was asked how i wanted it cooked and asked for medium but came extremely rare and was bleeding all over my plate, it was totally undercooked, the veggies (even though frozen) were not cooked properly! The mash came out of a packet and everything else out of the freezer! Needless to say i didnt eat it i was too scared of getting sick! My husband had the fish and chips, the fish was not flaky it was so chewy it reminded me of chewing on an eraser at school! this place was so dissapointing. The owner should be ashamed!! DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY! The search for decent british food continues....

Nice English bar just like back in England. Great selection of Irish beers. Food is absolutely amazing. I recommend the Calamari for an appetizer along with a pint of Guinness followed by some fish and chips and another Guinness!

An Englishman, a Scot and a Yorkshireman walk into a pub... ...and we all had a great time. The Duke of Edinburgh is proper English pub across from the new Apple spaceship HQ. It looks a bit tatty from the outside--at the end of an old strip mall--but feels like an English pub on the inside. Not just because the interior looks like it was brought over from the Home Counties and then well used for quarter of a century. But because of the great English food and friendly service. And it's not forced American theme pub "Have a nice day!" friendliness from the staff. It's an easy chattiness with some blokeish banter. It felt like being back home in Manchester. We all ordered fish and chips, with Icelandic cod. Fresh and delicious. Plus Boddingtons and Old Speckled Hen: Lovely creamy bitter ales. The Yorkshireman liked the ale. The Englishman loved the fish and chips. And Scotsman didn't complain about the prices. That's no joke; that's high praise.

Tried the Bangers and fries and an onion rings appetizer with curry sauce. Onions rings by themselves were ok, the curry sauce rescued them. Bangers were good too, the fries with curry sauce were excellent. The decor really benefits from the low light. Service was fast and very good.

Food was actually Ok, Beer was good. Chicken wings were not of great quality. I had better british food options at other British pubs in San jose.

The food was decent, no real complaints there. I get the old time London vibe but the place needs updating. The booth seats were old and lumpy and uncomfortable. No kids menu but they had high chairs.

Stopped in to see if they were hiring, Stephen Nolan was bartending, they were not looking for a bartender, but he gave me helpful information for a private group that lets you know who is hiring in the area. Thank you Stephen! Great customer service, nice clientele!

Didn’t have Bullet bourbon!!!! So dont think they will have a good selection going here. The shepherds pie is not made of lamb and the recipe they use was mediocre at best. Needs new management!!! Bartender was nice so i have it an extra star for her.

While on our way to an event in Sunnyvale, my friend and I decided to look for a place to have a drink using Google Maps. That's when we stumbled upon the Duke of Edinburgh. Once we walked in, we were immediately drawn to the inviting and authentic English pub vibe. The red vinyl booths and cozy atmosphere made us feel right at home. We took a seat at the bar, and despite there being only one bartender, he worked hard to give us great drinks and quick service. Although I didn't look closely at the menu, I made a mental note to keep this place in mind the next time I'm in Sunnyvale because I would like to try their food.

Nice and cozy bar next to ranch99 and Apple Park. Fast service and variety of snack choices

Not really a pub atmosphere - more of a sports bar in costume since American football was on the TV. The decor and seating is quite pub-like. Horrible food, even the Shepard's pie which lacked flavor. I shudder to think what the prime rib or beef Wellington taste like. Chips were soggy. They don't have Pimm's. I won't be back.

I love the Duke! An institution. My parents used to have date nights here when I was little. I also spent a Thanksgiving here with my dad. Many New Years Eves and after Christmas drinks were had here, too! Cory our waitress was awesome and sweet, the bartenders are always cool, and the place is just such a laid back, old school vibe you can barely find anymore in San Jose. The food is also excellent! Can’t go wrong with the Duke <3

The only good thing about my prime rib dinner and my three friends dinner was the baked potato everything else was overcooked and tasteless my friends beef Wellington was tender but no taste or flavor my wife said the french fries were good and the fish and chips were satisfactory I've eaten here many times the food has been very good I believe it's because it was Christmas but I will be willing to give it another try I did like the Guinness

It's always such a pleasure to come here. There's something about a cozy, well 'lived' in vibe that makes a pub experience the right one...

Best curiously Scottish-named Irish Pub / dive-bar you've never been to in the middle of Silicon Valley. Old and stuffy (in an excellent way) with red-velvet lined furniture and ornate wooden bannisters, dark and cozy inside, and a roomy fenced-in outdoor patio.

This used to be good place it has gone downhill with a quickness. Went for my girlfriend's birthday Sunday the 12th. Terrible! My girl has been going there for 34 years. This was the first time she was disappointed. We had to remind them three times just to get a glass of water. My toast was burnt. My hashbrowns were burnt and rock hard. They were out of bangers which are in at least three of their dishes. I was supposed to have an option of hashbrowns or fries. Waitress didn't ask. I was supposed to be able to choose which kind of toast. I got texas toast, with barely enough jelly to cover one piece. Nephew ordered fries. Didnt get them. Waitress tried to claim he did not order fries, three ppl at our table spoke up and said yes, he did. My girl ordered a fancy cocktail. It tasted terrible. Like chlorine. Even worse than the water. It was deprewhen it was supposed to be a celebration.

Our waitress was drunk (literally). Drinks took forever to get refilled. One of our buddies had his order skipped and when it came (he ordered a shepherds pie) it ended up being a cottage pie (beef) with no crispy top (you know, one of the hallmarks of a shepherds pie). His meal and mine were both VERY salty. The dessert was nice, but seemed like they made a big batch and froze it in portions. My other friends mentioned that the drinks were fine. The atmosphere had a very 80s diner/pub feel...a bit dark, but the regulars seemed to get along fine. Parking lot was dark and very sketchy though. The floor was sticky and so were the tables.

We ordered the NY Steak, The cut of meat was poorly done by the butcher because it had a lot of tendons was difficult even to cut it. And it was not well seasoned. They forgot to put the mashed potatoes on the plate (included with other side), we thought that they switched by the cup of soup but no they charged extra 4 dollars for it at the end, we told about it and they don't fixed it. It cost 30 with no mashed potatoes + the extra soup charge.

Prime rib is good, some good appetizers. Beef Wellington was overcooked but still tasty. Good beer selection.

The food here has really gone downhill. The first time I went here was with my partner, who was British, back in 2005. I remember distinctly their scotch eggs were fantastic. Now their menu is not only greatly simplified, it's also significantly degraded in quality. I ordered "curry and chips" which turned out to be a bowl of gruel and some previously frozen french fries. Then I got some "sausage rolls" which turned out to be weiners cut up and baked in Pillsbury biscuits out of a can. While eating I was harassed incessantly by creepers from the bar. I went to remember the memories I'd made with my partner who has passed on but I'll never go again.

I love Englisg pubs. Just like Europe, this pub has the old musty smell with lively people and introverted barflys. First time back in over 7 years. The food is good and has solid portions. We had BLT with onion rings and Shepard's pie. It's a mix of lamb and beef. It was good, but I had better. Minus a few stars for limited beers on tap. More imported and IPA's, please. We Americans like our beer super cold, but that's a nitpick. I always ordered fish and chips and will be back.

Very nice place. Good food. Chicken soup, sheperd pie, fish and chips. All very good. Cheese cake was disapointing though. Very good service.

Comfortably between dive bar and family restaurant, this pub's authenticity comes from a distinct lack trying too hard. Decent enough drinks, including cider. Decent enough food including enough English staples to call themselves a pub. There is nothing fancy about this place, but it is humble and comfortable enough to keep me coming back. There are just a few TVs for sports, nice amount of outdoor and indoor seating, and a digital juke box if you want to change the music. So long as you aren't looking for fancy, I highly recommend this place for both food and drinks.

That was the best fish n chips we've ever had. And my husband is from whales. Much older place, a bit misty, but we liked the vibe.

Drink prices too high for a stinky bar. I love dive bars, but this one won't go back. Waitress not friendly if not a regular, sane with bartender.

As you would expect from my establishment with Edinburgh and it’s name, it has great scotch and great atmosphere

Three of us went for dinner and all three had a bland, tasteless meal. No salt, no pepper, no seasoning. The prime rib was tough and flavorless. I had to ask for horseradish and au jus hoping to give it flavor, but the au jus was bland. The French dip was tiny with hardly any meat. Again no flavor. The fish and chips were mediocre. Oh, the baked potato was good. I think it's more if a place for drinks.

The Duke has been around for decades and hasn't succumbed to the drollness of the Silicon valley blueprint for bars these days. Which is a good thing! So many pubs and bars are filled with a dozen huge TVs, super loud annoying music, and sacrifice originality in chase of the next coolest trend. "Not that there's anything wrong with that". But the Duke remains true to its roots. Imagine stepping into a page from a Sherlock Holmes chapter. Its cozy, low-lit ambiance is welcoming. They pour Guinness or Smithicks from a tap. And for the IPA fans, they have Space Dust. You can throw steel tip darts. And after you've worked up an appetite order bangers and mash or fish and chips. It's truly a gem in the land of silicon, and I hope they never change!

One if my "go-to" places for British pub experience for last 25+ years. Good food dishes and selection of beers, and all the ambiance. Our San Jose Triumph (RAT) motorcycle group meets here for several decades.

The best fish & chips I’ve found outside the UK! The authentic food will definitely draw me back again. The staff were friendly, and overall there was a nice vibe to the place. The pub itself reminded me of several back home in Ireland.

This a great place to grab a bite. The staff that I met were very friendly, and the fish and chips lunch that I had was delicious. It has the "neighborhood bar" feel down perfectly and all of the other patrons that I met are regulars there. I definitely plan on visiting this place again.

Low Key during weeknights. Filet mignon was perfectly cooked, the rice and veggies were surprisingly good. The highlight was, of course Craig, who dazzled the crowd with engaging conversation, wit and stories of his time on the David Letterman show. It's right next to the hotel that I stayed in and across from Apple's campus so it is in a great location. The jukebox also had an extensive selection. Great spot!

it was very good place. nice ambience. this was my first time. we tried pitcher of guinness. it was better taste compared what i had it elsewhere. appetizers were very good. i tried onion rings, quesadilla, garlic prawns. all three were very tasty. lady who was serving was very attentive and provided great service. will come back again to try out other things as well.

Ok my bartender was amazing. She was so nice an helpful and I couldn't ask for a better bartender to help me escape from the weirdo at the bar. Than you aaron or however you spell her name! Side note shes so gorgeous and looks just as young as me! Keep up the good work team. I will be back

Fish and chips were really fresh, lightly battered, tasted great. Not old and soggy at all. I had a side salad, fresh, but commercial.

Nice, quiet, cool, good beers. Not much vegetarian on the menu, though. Used to have a veggie Cornish pasty, that was so yummy.
