I'm into ancient history so this is a must see if you are too. They are 3 monoliths that are worth seeing and the sun gate is a bonus. The museums are nice and if better if you take a guided tour

Incredible temple and pyramid. Little is known about the Tiwanakote people. Their symbolism and technology still defie our understanding. One thing is for sure, we will never stress enough the level of destruction brought by the conquistadores.

This gate has interesting carvings and tons of history and speculation around its use, meaning and location. Listening to different guides, you get a variety of (miss)information about this place, do some research prior to your visit and enjoy the field trip.

All this archeological site is really impressive, in the middle of nowhere. But this gate, still up in the middle of multiple ruins is really special and it is definitely worth to come here and visit the entire place

Stunning piece of ancient stonework. This solid piece of stone is carved in great details, depicting antropomorphic and animorphic figures, with mythical god Wiracocha in the middle.

Tiwanaku site in western Bolivia near Lake Titicaca and one of the largest sites in South America. Surface remains currently cover around 4 square kilometers and include decorated ceramics, monumental structures, and megalithic blocks. The site's population probably peaked around AD 800 with 10,000 to 20,000 people. Some have hypothesized that Tiwanaku's modern name is related to the Aymara term taypiqala, meaning "stone in the center", alluding to the belief that it lay at the center of the world. The name by which Tiwanaku was known to its inhabitants may have been lost as they had no written language.Heggarty and Beresford-Jones suggest that the Puquina language is most likely to have been the language of Tiwanaku.

Quite incredible Some say this site appeared overnight 12,000 years ago. Believed to be the cradle of civilization in the Americas. Revered and rebuilt by the Inca. Viracocha knew how to party.? The sun gate itself was moved in modern times to this location

Amazing piece of artwork that is the highlight of Tiwanaku. Created thousands of years ago it is unique and seems to be an entrance gate to the courtyard. It was moved to this location later and stands idle now in the middle of the courtyard.

Totally cool bucket list ancient mystery stuff... Pretty sure this came from Puma Punku (sun gate). There are several of those megalithic ish stones laying around here at Tiwanaku that look just like the ones at Puma Punku...1.5 hour drive from La Paz through the SH of El alto...but its worth it if your already in La Paz...

A must see place of wonder during a trip to Bolivia. This place will leave an impression on you. It doesn’t feel crowded or touristy and you can feel the age and history of the place. It’s quiet here, and that is probably the very best part.

(Translated by Google) One of those monuments or works of art that are part of your education received over the years. I remember all the comments of my history teachers at the school that told me about the value of this monument, especially since I had a Bolivian teacher who taught me history at my school in Arequipa (Peru). Almost like a pilgrimage I went to meet him. And I will come back. The god of thunder, powerful, god of the heavens and earthquakes. I don't know if the door collapsed for one. Y voy a volver. El dios del trueno, poderoso, dios de los cielos y de los terremotos. No sé si la puerta colapsó por uno.
