Visiting San Diego from the UK and recommended to come here, so made a reservation. Very traditionally-styled restaurant in a great location. Bar seating is very limited if you’re waiting for your table, otherwise you’re seated on a couch nearby. Our table was outside the main restaurant but still in an enclosed area overlooking the sea. Personally I think there is a fine line between ‘traditional’ and ‘old fashioned’. For example, I anticipated that the fish mains would be served on their own with the side dishes in separate bowls to share, rather than everything being served on one plate. For me, the portion size is then a little ‘over facing’, taking something away from the food itself. Just personal taste, I guess. Nevertheless, the food was good and tasty, and the service was really friendly and attentive. A very nice but not great experience.

I went here after my mom’s glowing recommendation. She’s a San Diego native and a seafood fanatic who has VERY high expectations in terms of seafood quality. The view is incredible - outdoor patio looks out over the sea. Especially cool during sunset. If you want a seat on the patio, you’ll likely need to make a reservation. We didn’t have a reservation, but they were still able to seat us in about 15 minutes. While we waited, we got a couple of fantastic cocktails at the bar. The food was awesome - especially the cheese bread and Caesar salad. I also got a fish/pasta dish, but it wasn’t great. I hesitate to mention that though, because what I ordered wasn’t actually on the menu. I wanted some sort of Alfredo pasta with salmon instead of shrimp (I’m allergic to shrimp). The waitress was kind and said that the kitchen would be able to whip me up something like that. I didn’t care for what they came up with, but I don’t blame the restaurant for that - I should’ve just ordered something that was already crafted on the menu. Staff are very polite and they come back to check on you often. I’ll go again next time I’m in SD.

The food was phenomenal. Very short wait times. Great view, great food and even better service. I had the Seafood Ciopino and a snicker doddle ice cream brownie. The seafood dish was delicious to say the least. It had all the classic seafood items, as well as 2 pieces of toasted bread. The dessert wasn’t too sweet or too big of a portion it was enough for 2 but i had my own. Definitely coming back next time I’m in town.

The Fish Market came recommended to us by our casino host in Vegas so we had to try it out! It was very popular but for us was just okay. Our expectations were higher than what our experience produced! We were sat at a little tiny table in the corner of the bar, which was fine, we still had a view! Service was super slow and very sporadic, although he thanked us for our patience every time, it never improved. The hostess made sure to tell us to limit our visit to 90 minutes or less but failed to mention you may not get to finish your meal due to slow service! The garlic bread was the hit of the night! A garlic lovers dream!! The New England Chowder is nice and thick and loaded with potatoes and clams and the shrimp in the shrimp cocktail is plump and juicy. The cocktail sauce is bad, really bad, but the shrimp were so nice just plain! The swordfish was nice but the rice was like rice-a-roni and the cole slaw was bland. The Snicker Doodle dessert is way way too sweet. Never had a Snicker Doodle with white chocolate chips in it! Good experience, not great though, and I suppose we were looking for great. So many restaurants with on the water seating it has to be great for us to go back.

Great food and cozy place. It has a great view of the ocean. The clam Chowder and the Fried Calamari are a must. The Fish and chips are crispy and very well cooked. I would definitely come back again.

Although seating arrangements have changed significantly since COVID-19 the quality of the food and service is STILL A-1!!!! Since there was bar seating available I opted to enjoy a couple of Mai Tais while waiting for an outside table to enjoy the sunset (yes, it took a while to be seated but always worth it). Keep in mind, I was a walk up so people with reservations are priority but that is fine with me as I generally dine alone. But, I highly recommend making a reservation if you prefer immediate seating, etc. During this visit I had the wild caught Alaskan halibut with fries and coleslaw. WOW! This entree provided an explosion of flavor! Perfect portions, perfect seasoning, perfect cooking! The fresh made tartare complimented everything on my plate. Although they do not serve dessert wines the hazelnut chocolate mousse was HEAVENLY! Fourteen years in San Diego and the Fish Market ranks in my Top 5.

What's not to like, from the sightseeing and their quick service, you can also enjoy great seafood. The crabcakes were specially delicious, and the white and red clam chowder were super tasty. Definitely it is a place to visit and have a great lunch or dinner.

I really enjoyed this place!!! The food was incredible. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the flavor profiles were on point. The views from the restaurant were nice and the wait staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in San Diego.

This is my third visit to the fish market. The crab cakes were delicious. The fish tacos were good as well. My friend had the curry fish and she was a little disappointed. Maybe not her thing so try it if you like fish curry. The four star rating is only because of the wait time (1hr) and the fact our server was probably taking care of too many tables. It was just not as good of service as expected. It was not horrible just not five star. The view is incredible so that is a total bonus!

The Fish Market in San Diego has left an indelible mark on my dining experience, earning every bit of its well-deserved five stars. From the moment we stepped in, it was evident that this establishment takes pride in providing a top-tier culinary journey. The panoramic views from The Fish Market are nothing short of spectacular. Overlooking the beautiful San Diego waterfront, the setting is simply breathtaking. The ambiance of the restaurant, combined with the gentle sea breeze, created the perfect backdrop for an evening of culinary delight. The staff at The Fish Market were not only attentive but also genuinely passionate about ensuring a memorable dining experience. Their knowledge of the menu, coupled with their warm and friendly demeanor, added an extra layer of enjoyment to our visit. From recommendations to seamless service, the staff truly went above and beyond. Now, let's talk about the star of the show—the food. The salmon, perfectly cooked to tender perfection, showcased the chef's expertise in bringing out the natural flavors of the fish. Each bite was a testament to the commitment to quality that defines The Fish Market's culinary offerings. The mahi mahi was a delightful surprise, with its succulent and flaky texture. The flavors were fresh and vibrant, a true celebration of the ocean's bounty. Paired with delicious green beans that retained just the right amount of crispness, it was a harmonious blend of taste and texture. The perfectly cooked French fries served at The Fish Market were nothing short of addictive. Crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, they were a delightful accompaniment to the main dishes, adding that extra touch of indulgence to the meal. To cap off an already outstanding meal, we indulged in The Fish Market's apple pie dessert. The dessert was a triumph of sweetness, featuring a flaky crust and perfectly spiced apple filling. Served with a dollop of ice cream, it was the ideal conclusion to an evening filled with culinary delights. In summary, The Fish Market in San Diego is a gem that seamlessly combines incredible views, attentive staff, and delicious food. Whether you're a seafood enthusiast or simply seeking a memorable dining experience, this establishment delivers on every front. From the first bite to the last, The Fish Market offers a culinary journey that lingers in the memory long after the meal has concluded. Highly recommended!

My Wife and I we’re celebrating our anniversary in SD and this restaurant was AMAZING! Food was delicious everything we had was delicious. Service was on point we never really had to wait for our server she was always around when we needed something. We sat at a table right next to the ocean and was totally worth it great views and super relaxing to say the least! If I could give any criticism the Parking fills up fast but seems to be a common theme in San Diego! 100% recommend! We’ve considered taking a day trip just to go back! Haha. Will definitely be back when we go again!

I’m a bit surprised I didn’t know about this place. The food is really good, and they have an extensive menu with lots of fresh fish. The meals include your choice of 2 side dishes (the cauliflower was awesome—I highly recommend it.) Our waiter was a bit stiff, but he did a fine job taking care of us. Thanks!

We tried to dine in here two years ago but the wait list was too long so we gave up. This time, three of us, was not the case. We were able to by the windows right away. First we had clam chowders followd black mussel and half dozen oysters which were great. Then we ordered fish and chips and calamari steak with local beers. Amber who served us a great person. Cant wait to try other menus when i get a chance next time.

Simply amazing! I tried several appetizers in addition to a main meal. All ingredients used were definitely fresh and tasted very good. I would highly recommend to try the sourdough and the clam chowder soup. I really hope to visit the fish market in San Diego or another city again as I really enjoyed the food.

Very fresh and savory food. There were many options available in the menu. We tried the ciopino, fish tacos, oysters (those from Baja are the best) and the crab cakes. Views from the window area were nice during sunset. There are also some tables to eat outside with view of the bay. I recommend this place!

Very nice environment and the service We received was excellent. They provided us Oysters that range from sweeter to saltier ones. There was one that smelled very fishy, which I didn't like. In general, it was a good dish to have. The waygu steak was not juicy, The texture was little tough. The crab cake was also a recommended dish from me. If you like Seafood, I do recommend The one I ordered. It has mussel, clam, crab meat, very nice one. Vice view too.

Great location near the marina and the famous statue of a sailor kissing his girl upon the return from war. We came for dinner as a group and the service started off excellent by the host and waiter but dropped off as the evening went on. Not sure if it was because he got busy or he became disinterested since the gratuity would automatically be added due to the size of our group. The atmosphere is notable since it’s on the water but the main floor is pretty standard with wood tables - nothing special. Our food, however was delicious and I suppose that the most important thing. I had the swordfish Cajun style and it was to die for. Moist and juicy with just the right amount of Cajun spices. Others had the scallops, tuna, and other types of seafood and no one had complaints about the food or the sides that come with the meal. We also ordered calamari appetizers and this were also tasty. The more upscale version of the restaurant upstairs has a better atmosphere but given we had been out all day we didn’t want to go change before dinner so chose the main floor. Definitely worth visiting for the food and I recommend the swordfish.

My husband and I enjoyed a delicious dinner here last Saturday night. Great window table indoors. We both ordered New England Clam Chowder which was excellent and sesame crusted Ahi with their Mongolian sauce. Perfectly done and delicious. Our server Olivia was terrific. Friendly, attentive and accommodating. And we both felt safe and comfortable while there. I recommend!

Very good location and food quality. The Clam Chowder is right up there with the best. Excellent view of the harbor if dining outdoors. Not terribly busy on a week day evening, so I really enjoyed it.

Dined in for dinner We went for the local catch (swordfish and Mahi Mahi) and was very underwhelmed by the cook on the fish. The best item was the fishwife rice that was served as a side. You would be coming for the experience and the view.

Went here on NYE for dinner and the food was AMAZING. Service was great too. And the price was reasonable for the area. I got fish & chips with prawns and my husband got fish curry. Everything was cooked to perfection. Also got some key lime pie and crème brûlée for dessert. Would definitely come here again. Everyone was super friendly and service was top notch.

Beautiful view of the Bay at this restaurant. We got great service and laughs with our server. It's a shame i don't remember here name. I had the Swordfish, which was tasty and cooked perfectly. Great place, great people and great view! Very exposed to the sun if you are eating outside but the breeze from the bay cools you so you don't overheat ;)

Location, location, location! Fabulous food, great service, amazing views! What more can you ask for? Fresh fish is their specialty. We had swordfish, fresh caught locally. Clam chowder is my thing. The Fish market has creamy decadent clam chowder served with french sour dough on request. Parking is paid. Valet parking available. Right next to the Bob Hope memorial, The Kiss statue, and the USS Midway.

The evening (September 25, 2020, 6:00 PM), began with general manager "Suzanne" greeting us at reservation front podium. We felt like royalty with attention directed at all our needs for this wonderful evening. We were celebrating not one or two, birthdays, it was actually three. We were also greeted by "Lakia," who listened to our concerns on a prior visit. The food was fabulous and our experience was made extra, extra, extra special by the attention afforded to us by "Wendy," our server for the evening. I really can't say enough about this place. If fresh seafood is what your palate is craving for, don't waste your time looking at other restaurants in area. If you have to wait, trust me, it will be worth it. Thanks again "Fish Market team, you made our evening and special occasion very memorable indeed. "Rogelio."

We stumbled upon this place while walking around. I guess we were dressed properly because the hostess seemed shocked we wanted a table. She asked us are we sure and to verify the menu selection 🤷🏻‍♀️. They did have patrons dressed up but we still found it rude. This place does have high price $40 For swordfish $16 kids hamburger. But we enjoyed our food because it was worth the price. Just the customer service was super judgmental. We dropped 200$ On enjoying our experience and the view to just be judged on our appearance

The Fish Market is one of my favorite places to celebrate special occasions. It's good food with a great location right on the harbor. And right now, with all dining outside, everybody gets to enjoy the fresh air and the view. I've been bringing out-of-town guests here for about 12 years.

  • 4/5 Richard S. 4 years ago on Google
Sat on the bay and enjoyed a very tasty selection of fresh catch swordfish, sesame ahi tuna, and the fish and chips. All were excellent. Probably the best fish and chips in San Diego, and believe me, I've had a few. The server was attentive and the bathrooms were clean. A tad pricey for the portions, but on par with what you'd expect in San Diego, especially at a place as iconic as this.

For someone with a food allergy, it’s so easy and enjoyable to eat here as the menu is clearly labeled, and the waiters are knowledgeable and helpful at dealing with allergies. Other restaurants would do well to copy this, and they also have a good selection of vegan cakes. A must visit!
