We were their first guests that day and we loved being there in the early morning. Our guide was so lovely. Beautiful place, we got to learn so much more about amber. We went to the amber museum in Santo Domingo but theirs is even better since they take you through the whole journey from the amber mining to the jewelry and art made out of it. I totally recommend it. It is close to everything too and was walking distance from our hotel.

As a major cruise port in the Dominican, the Amber Museum is set up with international tourists in mind. The guided tours are given in English, Spanish, and French. The second floor is accessible by elevator. The rooms are dimly lit for ambiance, but this makes some artifacts difficult to see. The gift shop is expensive and sells jewelry, cigars, and coffee, another recent Jimenes family purchase. The tour guide wore a coffee company shirt and seemed new at his job. While he followed the script exactly, he did not yet have the confidence or knowledge to answer additional questions. He also appeared to be the only employee in the museum at the time and would have benefited from a mentor.

This place was the highlight of my trip. It was so fun and such an intriguing look into the culture and history of cigar making and the Dominican cultures' pride in creating quality tobacco and cigars.

Nice to see and understand how the amber is extracted. Very expensive, however, to buy a little souvenir. Quite frankly, prices have raised ridiculously since the Jurassic Park movies.

Nice little museum. Very interesting. Only $1 per person. Air conditioned. Inside an old mansion. Decent collection of amber with bugs trapped inside from millions of years ago.

Nice museum with very nice guides and a lot of cool amber pieces with insects and even a lizard inside one. The people there are great!

The tour guide presenter was amazing. She was knowledgeable about how amber is produced, how to spot fake amber (it won't float in salt water). Amber mining is very worker intensive, dirty and miserable conditions and wirkers only paid if they hit pay dirt. Otherwise, no pay for long hours many days. Totally enjoyed the education about a beautiful natural resource. Presenter was very personable, genuine and friendly.

Super cool to see the fossilized insects and flowers within amber dated millions of years old. The guide was really insightful and answered every question I threw his way. They also do a quick cigar tour at the end where they show how Dominican cigars are made. We genuinely had a great time and I would recommend this museum for anyone interested in understanding the source of amber, the fossilization, and mining process.

Could not recommend this more, especially for cruise passengers. An efficient and fun way to learn not only about amber, but also Dominican culture and history. The museum is divided into multiple parts with the main highlights being both amber and the tobacco/ cigar industry. The knowledgeable, friendly and bilingual staff spoke offered a free tour of the museum which included tastings and an excellent tobacco demonstration. The museum is small, but it is full of air conditioned and interactive exhibits.

Well worth a visit, very interesting and doesn't take too long. You may need to haggle better than we did, if you want to buy some trinkets.

(Translated by Google) A very nice Catholic cathedral in the center of the city. You can probably visit it all day long because it is not closed, and sometimes you get to a concert. I recommend attending the mass, we happened to be on Epiphany and it was an interesting experience. Can you imagine a Polish bishop who sees no problem with taking pictures with the faithful? There are many tourist attractions around it and you will always be approached by a local guide who will offer help in exploring the area. In my opinion, it is worth using his help instead of wandering around the city alone in search of interesting places. (Original) Bardzo ładna katolicka katedra w centralnym punkcie miasta.

The Amber Museum was fun and informative. Tatiana was wonderful, very friendly and knowledgeable. Beautiful old mansion with a fantastic Amber collection, (if you love amber the way I do) very inexpensive to get in ($2 US dollars). Great store to buy some beautiful pieces of jewelry from. Worth the trip.

Really cool to see and learn about amber. The fascinating shapes and colors, with all different animals and plants fossilized inside. Luckily the tour is quite inexpensive. The tour was private, but quite rushed. They charge exorbitant amounts to buy any jewelry. Still really cool and original. Great for a quick 1 hour stop.

Very inexpensive little museum with a lot of information and beautiful pieces. The air conditioning was very welcome on a hot afternoon, and there are restrooms for visitors to use. Our tour guide was wonderful. Enthusiastic, well informed, and she was able to answer questions from our kids and gear her presentation towards them. Aside from amber, there was also good information about tobacco and a cigar rolling demonstration which was great! You can buy really beautiful Amber jewelry in the gift shop, which I highly recommend. I have to especially thank our tour guide because my son left his cruise card in the restroom and as we were leaving she literally chased us down the street to return it to us. Thank you Tatiana! You are my hero!

The museum is situated is a very beautiful house with lots of interesting artifacts from Dominican Republic and the tour guide was very informative showing everyone around! I enjoyed it but I didn’t necessarily find it to be as interesting as maybe other people would but it’s still a good place to check out if you’re into learning about the local artifacts!

We enjoyed our tour of the amber museum and learned a bit about tobacco production/cigar making as well. There's a very nice gift shop with local cigars and amber jewelry as well. The tour is informative, inexpensive and a nice respite from the heat.

Small museum with several pieces of Amber with various fossils inside. The building is owned by one of the local cigar magnates, so if you wonder why the museum ends with a display of how tobacco is made and a cigar, jewelry and coffee store, you know why.

Definitely add this stop to your list! We popped in while at port on a cruise and had an awesome time. Such a great learning experience. If you can, get Lis as your tour guide - she is the sweetest soul and knows how tailor a tour experience to guests.

This was a great museum to visit while in port and was a great value for the low entry price. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and allowed up to be interactive with several of the exhibits. The tobacco/cigar portion of the tour was also very educational and the guides kept it interactive. The gift shop offered a large portion of cigars and Amber gift options.

I thought the building was cooler than the museum. The small amber bits in the gift shop for sale were ridiculously expensive; if they had small $20 chunks, unpolished or whatever, I'd have bought a few and I figure other people would have too. I actually only saw one person in our group buy anything. I mean, they said in the museum that they use it in the churches for incense, surely they aren't burning $200 pieces of amber, are they? If so, I have a source for incense that smells better, is half the price, and burns easier.

Good place to visit for seeing the ten different colors of amber mines on the island. Small museum and a bit rustic. A bit of a stair climb to get up to the museum, so make sure you are able to go up steps. Nice people and good photo ops.

The museum is worth a visit. Set in an old mansion the amber exhibits with amazing inclusions is one of the best I've seen. The staff tries to rush you through if they're busy, mostly because they do a hard sell trying to get you to make a purchase before leaving. The museum itself is free, but tips are appreciated.

This is a nice church. I went here while I was at Puerto Plata and was satisfied with my experience. I walked into the church and looked around. The church had lots of wooden pews and an altar. The church has some nice architecture, which looks nice. After walking around the church, I left, satisfied with my experience. I gave this church five stars because it has nice architecture and it’s conveniently located right by Parque Central.

Very interesting and our tour guide Christopher was very knowledgeable and friendly. The museum is well air conditioned and very inexpensive at $1USD.

Just beautiful, never seem amber like from Jerrasic Park. I would love to own one of the examples in there.

Tatiana was fun and best guide ever. The exposition can be improved, like fixing lights or damaged background pictures. Whole tour is about 10 minutes

We really enjoyed it. The tour is about 20 to 25 minutes. Very informative and fun. They are doing some construction work, so hopefully when it's done it'll be more amazing. There are a couple areas with some great looking trees, but because of construction and remodeling, we just walked through. Lots of fun... and close to Central Park.

You can buy the tour or go directly into the gift shop. Ticket was 120DOP or 2USD per person. Our guide was really good. Tour takes around 30minutes to complete and you learn about amber and tobacco origins to its sale in the market. Jewelry prices on the gift shop were a little expensive but you can also buy tshirts, thermal glasses, tobacco accessories and cigars that were a (little bit) more budget friendly.

Great tour for only $1 USD / visitor. Special thanks to Tatianna for her enthusiasm and knowledge. Museum is close to St.Phillips Church square. 🇨🇦

We learned so much more than expected. Super interesting, great guide and fascinating exhibits on the various types of amber. There is also a cigar history and production museum as part of the tour.
