Gorgeous building and space! Personally more into contemporary art, so didn’t particularly enjoy the art here, however the space itself is phenomenal and worth checking out. The curved walls as you walk to the upper levels are beautiful, and the top floor has a bright naturally lit room filled with sculptures.

The building itself has a very unique and modern design. There's no entrance fee but once you go in, you can't bring any liquid inside and if you are carrying a big bag then you must leave it at their storage area. The inside is massive. The collections are insanely huge from all around the world. I don't remember how many levels the building was, but it think it was seven floors high. The top floor had all the statues , more than a hundred I think. The building itself is next the mall.

CDMX has too many great museum that is so hard to choose one, but if I have a chance I would come back here. Ticket for visiting is free, and the place is enormous with variety of art styles from different countries. I love how clean the restrooms are, and how well the art pieces are kept. Will cơm back to visit those again!

I’m not sure if this museum is free but I was able to walk in after walking through security. The museum has a nice collection of Mexican and European art. Definitely worth a visit when you’re in Mexico City. The building itself is beautiful! A nice silver building that stand out in a sea of glass highrises.

This is a free museum that intrigued me from the outside architectural work. I went with my Mexican friend, who made the experience better, because she explained different works of art that didn't have written description. Basically giving me a history lesson. If you have a backpack it'll need to be checked in their lockers. The one thing my family and I didn't like was the ceiling on the 6th floor. We expected more when we got to the top. I hope someone creates a mural or something in the future. Also we recommend starting from the top then working your way down

Awesome museum for art lovers. Wide selection of European and Mexican paintings & sculptures. The building is owned by the Slim family. Admission is free 👊. PS: If you want a picture w/ the building, the best spot is across the street, on the first floor balcony of Museo Jumex.

An absolute must when visiting Mexico City. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and be warned, it can get a little bit hot inside, especially while wearing your facemask, which is mandatory of course. You will get to see works of art by Renoir, Vincent Van Gogh, sculptures by Botero, the place is absolutely fantastic. And the architecture!!! Make sure to grab a coffee so you can sit outside and enjoy all the puppies that are being walked around, while gazing at this magnificent building. Entrance is free, check out the hours before you go, as they might change because of pandemic restrictions...

Amazing museum, free to the public thanks to the generosity of Carlos Slim. I was aware that they had a considerable number of European masters, but there was also a sizable collection of Asian ivory and a great selection of Mexican artists. I don’t think I have ever seen so many Rodin’s in my life! The entrance hall has a piece by Rodin, The Gates of Hell, which is just jaw-dropping, I have seen variations a couple of times in other cities, but this was by far my favourite.

Beautiful museum. We visited on a Tuesday and the entrance was free of charge. If you’re carrying a backpack you’ll have to leave it in a cloakroom at the entrance. It has six floors, each with their own theme. Loved the Mexican art selection.

Seems like a nice place. Came here the first time today and was amazed by the architecture. Didn’t end up going inside though since I’m not too much a fan of museums. Definitely come here for the photos though! The building itself is massive and the structure is quite unique for pictures.

This is a fantastic art museum for every artsy person to visit! Every floor has a different collection with European art, musical instruments, Mexican artists, Dali and Rodin. It's unbelievable that it's free! Air-conditioned and accessible. Plan to spend at least 2 hours there going through the entire collection. It's located across from the Jumex contemporary museum and a mall if you wish to spend more time in the area.

Absolutely worth visiting! It’s free and has lots of famous 20th century European painters on the higher floors. Layout is super interesting and the sculpture floor is very unique. Recommend coming at sunset, the light reflecting off the building is really gorgeous.

Beautiful museum on the outside, and it’s free to enter! Start at the top and work your way down. I thought that the sculptures on the top level were a bit too crowded. I loved the area with the old telephones and switch boards!

Beautiful museum full of historic art pieces from around Europe and the Americas. This museum is five stories tall so get your walking shoes on. There is a gift shop and cafe for refreshments. There is also one whole floor dedicated to Mexican history.

Amazing free museum open on Mondays (when most CDMX museums are closed). Easy flow and the esthetics are beautiful. Not very busy and easy to spend lots of time on each floor. Highly recommended!

A Must see Museum!! The architecture and art are mind blowing! Be sure to take your time and have some patience as this place can get crowded quick! This place should be placed on your top 3 things to do/see while in Mexico City!

Astonishing architecture, there are at least five floors full of amazing art and historic pieces representing centuries of art. Some of the sculptures in the entrance are replicas from the original 1:1 size. You're going to spend a couple of hours there for sure. Lovely experience. Note: wheelchair access available and there is a lift on each floor, look for it is a bit hidden.

The most interesting aspect of this museum is perhaps it’s exterior design. While also the interior design is interesting, it’s execution is below par. Lots of executional defects when it comes to construction. The exhibition itself is so, so. Feels like lots of random stuff randomly arranged.

Cannot believe there’s people who gave this place a lower score than 5 stars ... First class museum totally free with an outstanding amount of art... simply gorgeous. Keep in mind this is was a private collection hence the lack of “diversity” ...

Great experience. They are usually pretty empty in the mornings. Also admissions are free, so cannot complain. You cannot take selfie sticks and water inside. Pretty secure place and lots of security and cops walk around some even with machine guns.

This is why you shouldn't give a second year architect $40m. Terrible. Poorly later out, and actually dangerous. The walls are flammable polyurethane, and the ramps at dangerously slippery. If there's a fire, head to the elevator core and stairs, not the ramps, because you'll burn to death or die of smoke inhalation. Awesome. Oh, and the art? See one of the most famous art pieces in the world, The Thinker, diminished by it's context and presentation. Or the used car lot up top where fine sculpture is for sale, goin' cheap.

An amazing experience. The outside architecture of the museum is really interesting and wonderful to see. Inside you will see even more surprises, so many pieces of art. The only mixed feelings I had was on the first floor with the China art and all the ivory items... What about all the elephants? Otherwise, Carlos Slim art collection is breathtaking, you will see some master piece from Van Gogh, Rodin or Degas as well as many painting from thousands of artists. I highly recommend the visit to this museum if you love art and architecture! And the top floor is the best surprise!

Very nice staff! And very responsible! Collection of art works is pretty rich and of high aesthetic value in my standard. They might not be world famous works, but lots of draft works of world famous artists are a lot more benefitial for art learners. Really appreciate the opportunity to come and visit! Mexican people must be very proud and feel lucky to have such a wonderful museum in their country.

Definitely one of the best attractions on Mexico City. Great collection, very attractive building, and awesome curation. It's a very nice way to spend a couple of hours indoor. Quite an impressive museum, the collections inside are unique. One has to be thankful to the Slim Foundation for their contribution to the Mexican people. The building itself is unique and a true work of art. If you are in Mexico City this is a must, together with the museum of anthropology, probably one of the best in the world, the Diego Rivera museum, the national gallery and so many others. MEXICO has so much to offer.

Just because it’s free doesn’t mean it isn’t great or worthy of your time. This is a our museum that serves as a gift to Mexico City from Carlos Slim himself. It is filled with several generational pieces and multiple floors of interesting art. Definitely worth a look. I suspect you can do the museum in 90 minutes or less. There are only a few breath taking pieces that make this spot worthy to enjoy.

If your in CDMX I highly recommend that you take a couple hours and come visit this museum. The Soumaya museum is the personal art collection of Carlos Slim! The museum is free to visit and has some beautiful art to view!!!! There are 6 floors with different types of art from paintings to sculptures to coins to phones etc…. A very impressive art collection that Mr Carlos Slim has put in the museum for all to enjoy!

Though not my favorite museum in this city—that would be the National Museum of Anthropology—and not housing one of my favorite kinds of collections, this museum is nonetheless a remarkable achievement. Both innovative and informative, the creative use of space leads one up a spiral hallway, moving one through time and through the history of Mexican art and the collecting of art in a very effective way. The exuberant exterior of the museum speaks for itself.

Cool as hell exterior worth the visit for the photos alone . Collection insiders a little disappointing. Three floors. Basically, second floor is completely musical history instruments and top floor is a ethically disturbing display of ivory carving which should be hidden and not glorified. Museum shop is average. Ground floor has a couple of nice paintings, sculptures and pieces. Overall worth of visit and open for COVID Jam 22 when many government museums were not check my other reviews

One of the best museums I've been to although sometimes the layout wasn't very intuitive. (Or doesn't exist at all in the sculpture level!) I could have gone back again the next day, I liked it that much. FREE thanks to Carlos Slim.

Free museum funded by a Mexican billionaire. Pros- gorgeous building and interior. Free! Clean and well appointed. The Mexican art is beautiful. Rodin collection is impressive. Cons - they can do better with guiding you thru the exhibits esp - eg the Mexican art can be structured by time or region etc. Also, the gift shop is abysmal. Takeaway - it’s free! and has great art!

The exterior of the museum is impressive but the art itself wasn’t. It has several floors, I think it’s 5 floors, with art scattered around. I was not particularly impressed with the layout and the contemporary art just wasn’t very interesting to me. It was a nice place to walk around and distract myself because it was free but I definitely would not pay to see this art.

I’m not gonna put all the pictures from my trip here, but if you’re in Mexico City, you need to go to this museum, it is free, it is amazing, and you can experience art and statues and artifacts that I do not know how it was even possible to keep in the conditions that they were found in. It all looks immaculate and priceless and they let you get up very close to everything. Loved all the floors and exhibits and the history. Do it! If you’re reading this in English, you’re likely here on vacation anyway.

The Soumaya Museum in CDMX is an absolute gem! From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by an impressive collection of art spanning various eras and styles. The architecture itself is a marvel, and the exhibits are curated with great care and attention to detail. Yes it is a fantastic place to take photos of. It has really good collection of art and sculptures. But as a museum it honestly doesn't really work. Art pieces have not space to breathe, everything feels crowded and over filled and the route can get a bit confusing. But hey it is still one of the best art museums on the city, and if you have not visited it, it's worth a visit

Gorgeous place and a vast art collection! The exterior architecture is more than instagram worthy, and the lobby gives you Guggenheim vibes. Its a great place to see great art from both Mexican and International artists. Its wheelchair accessible and its free too! The neighborhood also has many things to do. Would recommend to go on down hours like the morning and weekdays, to avoid crowds.

Great option to visit in Polanco, unique building for good Instagram pics and it is free admission... Many pieces are replicas (most of the sculptures), but there are a lot of originals... Something that really bothers me is the ivory “art” section, that should be prohibited. On weekends, try to go early to avoid crowd. Next to Antara fashion mall, restaurants, cinemas and the Aquarium.

  • 3/5 Alex G. 4 years ago on Google
The Soumaya is a spectacle from the outside. It's Martian-like futuristic shape made me really wonder what the inside was like. After seeing it in person, I was a little sad to see that the Interior doesn't match the exterior. The collection is okay for general culture but wish it had the same presence the exterior has. Pros: it's free and the floor filled with all the Mexican Art and artifacts made me happy.

  • 5/5 Mario S. 4 years ago on Google
This museum is massive and has a beautiful facade. I was very impressed by the collection of artifacts inside and th quality, plus the fact that an amazing art collection as this was made available free to the public. My one piece of constructive criticism, I hope, is that it could be better curated. There are faberge eggs, for example, next to antique coins. Even if they are to be on the same floor, there needs to be several separations within parts of a collection. That said, 5 stars for making such an amazing collection free to the people. Not many museums across the world would do that.

  • 5/5 Jorge O. 4 years ago on Google

What a fantastic place and it's FREE! Layout is on a multi-level plan with each floor dedicated to a theme ending with the world's second largest Rodin collection on the top floor. This is more than an art museum it also includes technology and historical artifacts. Be prepared to get your steps in and as always exit through the gift shop which has reasonable prices. Covid protocols in place. Enjoy 😉

If you’re in CDMX, this should be your must visit place. This a private museum founded by billionaire Carlos Slim and it’s totally free to visit which is amazing. It has over 66000 works from 30 centuries. This is one of its kind with vast collections of Rodin’s work. In addition to Rodin, some notable European artists whose work is displayed include Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, the circle of Leonardo da Vinci, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Joan Miró, Vincent van Gogh, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, El Greco, Camille Claudel, and Tintoretto. It’s a 6 floor building architected by Carlos Slim’s son-in-law and costed whopping $70 million to build. Each floor is well designed and has a different collection all together. We liked the floor with the ivory collection the most. You can easily spend a whole day if you’re into art and want to read through everything, or just scroll through in couple of hours. Don’t get scared of the steps, there are elevators and ramps to help the elderly. There is food court and souvenir shop too. Be sure to reach early to make most of it. Else, there will be a huge line to get in.

A rather small museum with and spectacular architecture. The Museum houses is a wide variety off art corresponding to painters and sculptors from Mexico and around the world. It has also a decent collection of artifacts and antiques. Located at a premium location in Polanco, the museum is easy accessible by car, food or public transportation. It has a small shop and Café. The shop sales mainly souvenirs from Mexico and a small selection of et books. Did I mentioned there is no entrance fee?

Absolutely loved the Soumaya Museum. There is lots to see, so wear comfortable shoes so you can explore the five different levels. This museum is free to the public, and it has a small gift shop on the ground level where you can buy souvenirs, drinks, and small snacks.

The architecture of the museum is gorgeous and very reminiscent of the Guggenheim in New York - however beware that there are no windows so it does get quite claustrophobic! Oh and the art was good too! (Free entry)

Huge museum! Free entry! 6 floors! Takes nearly 3 hours if you just walk and stop only on what interests you. I recommend it 👌 very much!

Beautiful! Can't believe it's free to visit! Consider spending 3 to 4 hours here, and even after that, it's worth to revisit. There are so many things to see. My favourite was the ivory collection.

Great experience and great art to be seen. Some really good collections. Covid-19 precautions in place. You'll need to check-in you bag/backpack. Five floors of art pieces! I would recommend a visit if in CDMX.

Incredible collection, unbelievable for its quantity and diversity. Almost overwhelming. Currently organized by medium / origin. Mr. Slim, May I humbly suggest an all-media inclusive exhibition by era? Your collection would make an impressive historical retrospective.

Awesome display of art, great fron the Slim family to give this to anyone for free.

This museum is sublime. The exterior is a work of art apart from everything you can see inside. It has about 5 levels and you can see different pieces. Also, a train passes in front of the museum is really amazing. If you're in CDMX this museum is a ten to ten.

Excellent museum with astonishing art Installations dating hundreds of years inspired by the region and beyond. Very will organized with unique layout flow..the museum is next door to a large shopping mall with tons of food options. Entry to the museum is free on the day I visited.

Entrance is free and is definitely a must see if youre in México City. The collection is extensive and simply beautiful! Come prepared to walk a lot, there are several floors with displays and you have to walk to get to them. We were super tired by the time we got to the fourth floor, luckily there are seats to take a break.

I preferred the MUNAL to be honest, although walking in the Soumaya you see it's finest pieces in the entry and Rodin's door and the Botticelli for me were worth the price of admission along with the very cool modern architecture. I found the carved ivory collection quite grim/sad although I suppose better for it to be in a public gallery. The majority of the historic paintings are a bit disappointing but overall still an interesting gallery. We waited quite a long time, longer than any of the other museums, which I found odd, because this was the least interesting.

Just the exterior alone is worth making the trip for especially if you are into architecture. A couple of buildings really brings pizazz to the cityscape. There is fluidity in the look as you move around the building.

This museum has free entry to the public. The architecture of the building itself is a must see. The white interior adds so much character. The walls and ceiling are white from floor to floor. As we came in, we were directed to a section where we were to check in our bags and water bottles. This first floor is a large open space area with a few large exhibits that caught the attention of the visitors. There is also a souvenir shop in this same floor. We walked up from floor to floor through a spiraled walkway ramp situated around the perimeter of the structure. In the center, at each floor, we found so many collections ranging from coins to artwork to sculptures.

One of my favorite museums in CDMX. I will say when you first walk-in there are a lot of reproductions and we doubted it as first but as you climb within the building building my expectations were blown. If you are a Rodin fan this is your little haven. We blown away that a lot of the pieces of art were exposed and you could see the textures of the brush strokes for every piece. One of my favorite parts… is they suspended some of the art on wire frames so you could walk around the back and see the history of the painting and the galleries it had been in. Get there early because lines can get really long but they move relatively fast!

What truly sets Museo Soumaya apart is its commitment to providing access to art for all. The museum's admission-free policy is a commendable effort to make art inclusive and accessible to everyone, allowing visitors to indulge in a world of creativity without any barriers. In conclusion, Museo Soumaya stands as a testament to the power of architecture and art to inspire and uplift. It offers a unique blend of architectural innovation and a world-class gallery that is a must-see for anyone visiting Mexico City. Prepare to be mesmerized by the building's exterior and enchanted by the treasures it holds within. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This museum is a stunning marvel of modern architecture. It is six floors on the inside with elevator access as well as stairless ramps. The exhibits range from historical artwork to historical telecommunications devices. Admission is free!

Excellent art museum located in the heart of Polanco. The entire collection is free to view, so it’s a perfect stop for any tourist or denizen of CDMX. There’s five floors of art, complete with works by Matisse, Chagall, Rodin, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Rivera (to name but a few). The museum is similar to the Guggenheim, as visitors can walk upstairs in a giant spiral, visiting each floor as they go. You’ll want more than an hour to make sure you see everything!

This is one of the most accesible and curious museums I have ever experienced! It has an amazing collection worthy of any large European collection. Entry is free to all!

Their collection is as impressive as the building! Lots of classic art and historic objects. Apparently it's one of the best private collections and that's obvious given the breadth, diversity and notoriety of many artists featured in it. For non-Spanish speakers be aware didactics and information is not also displayed in English so have the Google Translate app ready. Also, you will have to cloak larger bags.

Great free museum. It’s a bit far away and traffic make it difficult to leave past 4p.m. Lot’s of great pieces, we loved walking there, stopping when something caught our eyes. Seeing everything will take you a lot of time. Good place to see and spend the afternoon.

Besides the Museo Nacional de Antropología, this was the greatest highlight of a recent trip to Mexico City. This museum is filled with over 66,000 pieces of amazing art, sculptures and murals all owned by businessman Carlos Slim, who named the museum after his late wife Soumaya. The building itself is amazing and was designed by his son-in-law Fernando Romero, and reportedly Mr. Slim built it with hexagonal aluminum tiles to represent his 6 children. It features works of art from well known artists like Monet, Renoir, Rodin, Chagall, Salvador Dali, Leonardo da Vinci and Kahlil Gibran. You will also discover other artists, perhaps less will known, who will inspire and delight. The museum is free to visit and has 6 floors of art. Best to start from the 6th floor and make your way down. You will not be disappointed!

A widely eclectic range of art from around the world. I'd honestly recommend taking the elevator to the highest floor you can then walk up one more to the top of the building and starting there. As an art and event curator myself I felt the lighting of a lot of the works throughout the space left a lot to be desired as far as properly displaying the pieces. At times making it hard to see finer details and leaving larger pieces in shadows of themselves. This however did not take away from my experience as the works contained within the amazing infrastructure of the building filled my partner and I with wonder. Tldr/ start at the top and work your way down.
