This neighborhood is one of the oldest and most established Chinatowns in the USA. Passing through the famous Dragon’s Gate you enter a vibrant labyrinth of streets and alleys lined with dim sum shops and other traditional restaurants. In addition to herbalists, bakeries and souvenir shops, you can also go out to eat here where you can find traditional food at reasonable prices

My regular parking spot when visiting the bakery. Before this mural it was graced by an original Banksy, the owners covered it with plexiglass and it was defaced. The Bruce Lee murals covered it up.

Awesome mural. Looks great on pictures and in person. Can’t missed it if you are walking around china town. You will run into it if you are walking on grant st.

The Dragons Gate entrance at Grant and Bush, has a quality of openness that invites you into the culture of Chinatown. A couple of months ago when I was there, many stores were closed and there were not very many visitors. My wife and I visited again recently from Sonoma county and many more people are coming back to the streets of Chinatown. On Bush street just before the Grant entrance, is a large multi level parking garage we always use. More stores are open and and it is fun to browse around. Some stores are more unique than others. It is sad to see a couple of our favorites are closed. More restaurants are open for business. The revitalization of a struggling community is slowly taking shape. On the corner of Grant and Commercial is a beautiful Bruce Lee mural to behold. The colors are invigorating as will be the future of Chinatown.

Something to do during your weekend. You can park at the Chinatown garage on Kearney and just walk around a few blocks in there to see the murals of Bruce Lee and then you can buy some Asian cakes as the mini Asian bakeries around. You can do this in two hours, 4 blgs, up the hill and down !
