This is really a beautiful spot, with spectacular views of of Funston Beach from the cliff. There are so many trails, with sand, eucalyptus trees, cypress trees etc. We parked at Skyline Blvd, where there is an entrance to Battery Davis, since many other cars were parked there. It turned out to be a mistake, got $106 parking violation ticket for everyone who parked there. There were no clear no parking signs. Seems like a rip off, with close to 20 cars getting tickets. So be careful about parking. However we had a great time hiking, trail is dog friendly, in fact dogs are off leash. From the cliff you can view Funston beach to Ocean beach, it's a remarkable sight. Highly recommend this place.

Beautiful park with a lot of different trails that lead around the park, to sandy areas and even down to the beach, with a lot of happy dogs walking off-leash around. If you're worried about your dog interacting with others, you can always find a secluded area to play. Beautiful and fun for families and dogs!

The battery itself is just a "tunnel" at the top of the hill. It's an interesting piece of history. It would be awesome in the fog. The slog up the hill from the small parking lot at the end of John Muir Dr is steep. There are trails and a stairway to use. It seems to be a favorite place of off-leash dog owners. I visited mid-day on a weekday and it was crowded. I was accosted by several less-than-controlled (though friendly) dogs. If that's not your thing, avoid this place for sure. It's not going to be a place for solitary nature contemplation. It's busy, and the dogs are everywhere, with their humans yelling after them quite often.

Paved trail most of the way, then a sandy 1/10 mi. climb down to the beach. Lots of happy dogs on the beach, parasails and hang gliders above.

Entered the park at night and explored Battery Davis. The wind and energy here is pure and strong. Passing through the Battery tunnel and following the trail after leads to a mountainside view of Funston Beach. Exploring the area woke up my spirit just a little more. Check it out if you love preserved historical landmarks.
