Hands-down, my favorite bar in San Francisco. Classy, classic, sophisticated, stylish and yet low-key. The bar is something to just simply marvelous. The etched glass, the under lighting just gives it such an cool speakeasy vibe. The drinks are great, the only place that makes a Chocolate Martini that I actually enjoy. The hosts and the bartenders are awesome, and the lobby is just a thrill to be in with incredible furniture.

This classic yet updated gem is on the top 5 list for any serious cocktail admirers. Get The Big Chair for starters. Excellent bar nuts to casual dishes for noshing. Nothing like wall-to-wall redwood. Experienced pro staff make it special.

Great room, service, drinks, food, and tunes! People were really enjoying themselves. Left wondering how the orange labels on the Veuve Clicquot bottles light up. :)

The Redwood Room is gorgeous. Staff is very nice and the drinks are good. However there’s two things that make me uninterested in visiting regularly and I live a couple blocks away. First, the music is way too loud for comfortable conversation. They’re probably catering to people who are looking for a more low key club environment. It really doesn’t fit with the decor and the history of the place. Second, the prices are insane even for San Francisco. $17 for a pour of bourbon that sells for $30 a bottle or less at any liquor store down the street. SF liquor prices can be insane but this is really pushing it. Worth a look if you happen to be passing by but if you’re looking for a laid back lounge this isn’t it.

So I’m putting this in ink since it’s so fresh but I haven’t had service quite like that in the city for a min. I swear the bartender was on more drugs than dude passed out in the Upper Haight. For such a nice property I’m a little stunned they provide that type of experience but I’m going to blame it on the unions in SF. The room is the only reason why I gave it 2 stars. Yet the dude never really seemed appreciative that we showed up and are paying $16 for a drink. He was just kinda like, ahhh whatever. Drinks were not measure and they tasted like it. I’m genuinely appalled we had to pay for it and do NOT recommend!

Beautiful redwood walls! Alot of history here. I liked the old Clift Hotel better than this remodeled contemporary hotel.

We had a great time at the Redwood Room 2 nights in a row. Debbie was our server for both times when we were hanging out there during their happy hour (5-630pm Tuesday to Saturday). First of all, the Redwood Room is classy, clean, elegant all at once. It was so beautiful walking inside with such a high ceiling full of redwood. They also have a couple of paintings by Gustav Klimt. The drinks are great and are reasonably priced. Happy hour special: $12 glass of wine, $12 beer + a shot, $5 beer Service was also fantastic. Debbie was friendly and was talking to us about the homeless problems SF is facing. All in all, this bar is lovely and would highly recommend if you are in the area.

Man I had a blast, just went shortly. Watching the room being a melting pot and folks having a ball was beautiful to see.

Good food and service. A really neat place to sit and have a drink and bite to eat. It has a lot of drink options for all price ranges.

Only giving one star to get your attention. The ambience of the iconic Redwood Room is totally ruined by the heavy pounding of the " music " with no discernable tune and disregard for either the season or the elegance of the room. All it needs is a disco ball. What a tasteless pity.

Classic, elegant bar. Signature cocktails and bar food available.

A good reminder on how easily entrepreneurs can waste millions in a renovation project that transformed a world-class bar with its unique atmosphere into an airport lounge.

The Redwood Room remains the standard bearer for old-school San Francisco glamour. The room itself is a one of a kind treasure. It must be seen to be believed. There are plenty of good cocktails, but they come at SF prime real estate prices. Our server was a pro. We visited mid-week and the room was busy but not packed. Treat yourself to the Redwood Room.

great ambiance. extremely expensive -- you're looking at $19/drink. but staff are friendly, the vibe is chill. dark and warm place. great for dates

Great history here. Make certain to get a pic in the Big Chair! They have a drink named after it. In the evening the RWR turns into a club with DJ, dancing and more fun. There is also a light menu of food offerings

My burger was pretty good, and quite a good drink menu. Just a little weird that when you open up a tab they actually take your credit card and hold it the whole time you stay. Is that normal in SF? Never seen that anywhere. Still worth a visit if you want a drink and some light eats.

Fun and upbeat club, great drinks and very lively after midnight. Fast bartenders, and classy decor. Lots of hos, definitely recommend a visit on Friday/Saturday.

Historic, iconic and gorgeous. Best spot in Union Square for grabbing drinks and food with friends. Their Halloween and New Year's Eve events are epic.

The renovations at the Clift Hotel are hideous. It's a boring beige lobby with nothing worth remembering. It looks like every other motel. I wonder what the thought process was "Let's take the previous decor, design, full of rich deep tones and put alot of thought and effort into making it as non descript and boring as possible". The hotel is in the heart of downtown San Francisco. This new decor looks inspired by some 1980's, subtle hint of Southwestern, tacky flavor. It's reminiscent of a fastfood chain. There's nothing that ties it to San Francisco and the rich and unique blend it's known for. I've been going to this place for over 25 years. The Redwood room also seemed the same but a "watered down" version of it's previous design. They did a disservice to this San Francisco landmark.

The staff was great. Cocktails are perfectly made. Saturday night dance music was too loud for conversation

Classic style hotel bar. Has the feel of the bar from the Shinning. Great selection of whiskeys and Tequilas. I recommend this bar if you are staying overnight in the area!

Beautiful atmosphere, friendly waitresses, great music! Drinks didn’t live up to the hype unfortunately - too sweet on one drink, and too bland of an Old Fashioned.

We always have to stop in for a drink. It's one of my favorite bars.

MODS was such a fun experience! We got a very professional photographer with our VIP package that really enhanced our visit. He was able to take pictures of my family and I that we could never have thought of on our own. He got really beautiful pics of my granddaughter alone that I will cherish. All in all no complaints. The staff there is so friendly and accommodating. Especially our photographer Eric. I really suggest anyone going gets the VIP package. The memories will last a lifetime.

Took a 66 year old menu that my grandfather had when he stayed there. Great place, though the prices have changed from 66 years ago!

A throwback to the speakeasy days aesthetic wise, this place has any kind of drink you want, from cheap to expensive. If you prefer to sip your libation in a more classic, laid back environment, this is the place for you!

Had a great time tonight in this bar. The bar tender was oustanding by creating several different drinks for us to sample. Had a tinder date but she she never showed. Lol

Classy lounge with live jazz music when we were there. Creative libations - lots of options! Couple of complaints - didn’t know there was table service, so I ordered at the bar but had to close out my tab to sit at the tables (instead of it just being transferred over - it’s also a small spot, so it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to require lounge vs bar to be separate when it’s one large room). Last thing was it was empty when we got there (social distancing), but apparently we sat a a reserved table, no signs, and then were made to move to a back table, but no one showed up for the few hours we were there. The front tables were kept empty the whole night which is counterintuitive.

Fantastic place! Lots of open space and ambiance is city chic meets underground hideaway. Very friendly staff.
