Nice place to visit. We were in San Fransisco for 2 weeks and visited here many times. There are lots of things to see and do here. Seals on the pier. Plenty of eateries. Look across the water to see Alcatraz and enjoy the sea life.

The weather is nice, not foggy and not too hot. 1 hour trip going around the golden gate and Alcatraz. The area is nice as well. Lots of street food and show. There's nearby restaurants as well.

Fisherman’s Wharf San Francisco The bustle of the wharf is constant with tourists coming to eat crab and clam chowder ,seek souvenirs reminding me of the wharf area in Boston. Fresh seafood at the restaurants and the colony of Sea-lions will get fresh with a few barks to entertain you. You will experience views of landmarks like the Cablecar end, Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz as well as Ghirardelli Square the original chocolate factor home which now houses eating places and shopping. You will find a plethora of things to do at the wharf and with in walking distance. So many things to do. We did the Wharf, Cablecar, Ghirardelli , Alcatraz , Golden Gate Bridge and the Golden Gate Bridge Park attractions. Bring some comfortable shoes and be ready to learn and eat along the way. I’m attaching a couple of the sites we also visited. San Francisco Cable Car End- at Fisherman’s Wharf While in San Francisco we stayed right on the cable car line close to the turnaround by the wharf. The cable cars are amazingly well maintained for being close to 150 years old. You can see Alcatraz coming down the hill to the turnaround. The bells and the clack of the car on the rails , watching people enjoy the history was very cool. The San Francisco cable car turnaround. Cable cars have no reverse causing them to manually be turned around. A staple adventure in San Francisco ! Ghirardelli Square In our vacation to San Francisco we had the pleasure of staying by the cable car turn a 15 minute walk to Ghirardelli Square. The site is the original location which is over 170 years old. It now is making chocolate bar again in the location along with the nut roasting that’s been done there for years. Enjoyed a couple candy bars and ice cream. A must visit. Clean well lit facility. So cool to see it back in operation. Alcatraz National Park ( know as the Rock )is most recognized as the federal prison who was designed for the notorious criminals like Al Capone, George “Machine Gun” Kelley, and Robert “The Birdman” Stroud. Alcatraz is located in San Francisco Bay about a mile the mainland. From 1934 until 1963 it housed criminals. Alcatraz Island is open for public visitors. Alcatraz receives more than one million visitors every year. Take the guided tour to see the old prison cells and learn history of Alcatraz Island. As a lover of history our trip was fascinating. Seeing the locations and hearing the facts in the tour transport you back to the 1930’s and 1940’s when Alcatraz was one of the most feared places that a criminal could end up serving time. If you are in San Francisco on vacation or business take a day and visit Alcatraz. Pick up a keepsake too.

The brief stay was fantastic. I adore the atmosphere, and this wharf has it all. I would return for another visit in the future. Hopefully, I would not be alone.

Much to see, do and eat in this famous wharf area! I highly recommend enjoying some dungeness crab, but be careful of the highly touristy restaurants and shops, they tend to be way over priced and the quality is suspect. There are many tours offered to the local attractions from here, Alcatraz being the most popular, so buy tickets ahead, if that is your desired experience. Our family enjoyed the seafood so much. We took a short 30 minutes boat tour along the bay. The captain was professional. It was worth to spend a day in the wharf.

Lovely place in San Francisco with great view of Alcatraz and the bay, lots of cool shops and restaurants. You cannot miss the sea lions and it’s hard to miss them because of their funny noise they make to get your attention

A great place to see a lot of seals. You have a great view to the famous Alcatraz and Golden Gate Bridge. It’s possible to buy here some food and drinks or if you want, you can also book a tour. And the last thing: if you have luck- the famous bushman will find you :)

Uncrowded, clean. I walked from Market Street to Coit Tower to Fisherman's Warf. Looks like SF is getting cleaned up. I did not walk the Tenderloin as usual. So I don't know the conditions there. A year ago, SF was the worst I have seen in 60 years.

Such a great tourist location. Two different cruise lines, tons of restaurants, lots of public transportation. Historic and beautiful. Be prepared to spend a little extra money though.

Fisherman’s Wharf and Pier 39 is a must see and do when you’re in SF! There’s so much good food, especially seafood, and shops around the area, it’s a great way to spend your afternoon or night. Pier 39 has a tiny market with lots of great things to see and places to eat. I recommend making a reservation at one of their many seafood restaurants, Pier Market or Fog Harbour for a great dining experience.

"Seaside Charms at Fisherman's Wharf Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco beckons with its vibrant atmosphere and maritime allure. From the lively barks of sea lions at Pier 39 to the tantalizing scent of seafood wafting through the air, the wharf is a sensory delight. Quaint shops, street performers, and an array of fresh seafood eateries create a lively tapestry, offering visitors a quintessential San Francisco experience by the waterfront. Stroll along the piers, enjoy a bowl of clam chowder in a sourdough bread bowl, and soak in the maritime spirit that defines this iconic destination.

As a visitor to SF I found area has much to do on Wharf area downtown. Spent most of afternoon and few hours into the evening. So much to see and do, food, shopping, clothes, jewelry so much. Very safe and fun place to be even into the night. Fish tacos, Italian, sushi, clam chowder… All the food was delicious Hope I can spend more time there

Cool spot! We had a great time until we got back to our van. Do not leave anything of value in your car. We were gone for 2 hours in broad daylight and got the windows of our rental car smashed in and lost three computers.

Interesting place. Mix of locals and tourists on a Saturday night. Good choices for restaurants and people watching. All kinds. In the afternoon there were street performers at night there were evangelists. Pretty views of the water. Boats and ships moving out in the Bay. Views of Alcatraz and even the Golden Gate Bridge. Cable Car pick up a few blocks west. Something for everyone.

A nice place to have a look at the boats, piers and some historical arrangements. You get to see Alcatraz from here. It’s crowded and lively. Windy and too cold during winter and early spring. Would be lovely on a great sunny day for a stroll.

This is a good place for families looking to spend a sunny afternoon by the sea! You have good street food options and lot of scenic spots. I’m not sure about the parking as its usually crowded so do check for parking availability if you plan to drive there.

Lots of things to do... Lots of vendors... Very crowded/busy area of SF. A fun spot for a traveling person/tourist

  • 3/5 Mike E. 2 years ago on Google
It was an experience but I wouldn't go back. Dirty, old, and overcrowded with people, street performers, and homeless. Perhaps because we are just coming out of the Covid lockdown and it was a Saturday. All of the food offerings seemed the same so we ended up finding some delicious chowder from a well known food truck a couple of blocks away. Decent view of Alcatraz.

There's a lot going on at Fisherman's Wharf with lots of attractions. It reminds me of Piers landing in Philadelphia but with the flare of South Street shopping. I went on a day where it was not busy or crowded however there were tourists around. The thing I like most was the stores that sold fish locally caught right out of the Bay. If you like the smell of fresh bay caught seafood you will love this area. The only reason why I left early was because of rain. I spent about a good two hours looking around and hanging out.

An iconic area of San Francisco and a must see when visiting. From the views of Alcatraz to the seafood restaurants lining the street, definitely visit and get some of the fish or stop at the Boudin Bread Factory for some sourdough and chowder!

This is a fun place! But the bathrooms here are horrible (no TP, doors don’t lock or stay closed, but there is hot water), people leave tp and waste on the floor and I doubt these are cleaned more than once a week. Large homeless population here and these are the only bathrooms for all the restaurants in the area.

Super cold in March with the cold breeze from the ocean. Try to go on a sunny day and bring jackets. The vibes are great and many restaurants for seafood. Not busy on a Wednesday.
