Beautiful and intimately small location to hear some great jazz music! The musicians were all very into the music, bumping along with each other and having a great time making some great music. The food was great as well, definitely recommend the bao! The cocktails were all very diverse, something really for anyone's taste, and were really quite tasty. There is a 90 min limit at a table before they move you to a bar, which makes sense. I also loved how the smaller location and unique entrance made the location feel welcoming but secluded. Would definitely visit again!

Quality musicians but hard to follow because people are talking. The manager says they don’t like to interrupt the lively atmosphere. Any jazz clubs we’ve attended, including the Black Cat in SF, the 1905 in PDX, and clubs in Amsterdam and Paris, all understand respecting the musicians and do NOT tolerate talking. Came here from a recommendation to celebrate my birthday. We won’t return. As someone with ADHD, the constant and loud atmosphere of people talking distracted me. Enjoy if people talking doesn’t bother you. For me it’s disrespectful to the musicians. This is not a true jazz club, but rather a bar with music.

Jazz and dim sum anyone?! Definitely worth a visit if you are into either. Best for a date night or a group that is really into jazz. It is a bit hard for more than two people to hear each other while the jazzy music is going. The food is so good, as well. We made three separate food orders, we couldn't get enough!

I’ve been there many times. Tonight the host didn’t admit me because I haven’t yet received a booster shot even though I’m fully vaccinated. I explained to her that I caught Covid in December 2021, so my doctor from Stanford advised me to get a booster in March 2022. The host wasn’t convinced by that and interrogated me as to why I didn’t get a booster in October 2021, 5 months after my second shot. I explained to her that the CDC guidance at the time was to receive a booster 6 months after the second shot and that the FDA authorized booster shots for my age group on November 19, 2021. The host consulted the manager and informed me they couldn’t admit me to the venue. I’m actually a scientist and find it unacceptable that a venue in SF makes up their own public health policy against the advice I received from Stanford Health (a top institution in medicine). I’m going to inform the governmental authorities of this venue’s discrimination of persons on the basis of health status and take legal action if necessary.

Jazz and cocktails! It's truly one of my favorite experience for an evening activity. I have been many times and each time it's been incredible! They have wonderful live jazz music and it's lively making it the perfect intimate setting for a date or small group. The craft cocktails are unique and they also have food on a rotating menu. Tickets are inexpensive for the show but you stay for the delightful music, food, and drinks. Definitely add it to your must do in San Francisco.

Mr. Tipple’s Recording Studio is a hidden gem and one of the best secrets in San Francisco. The venue is classy and perfect for a night out with a date or a group of friends. The cocktail menu has great options and the food options are excellent with dumplings served from a local restaurant.

Had a pretty poor experience here. Came for the music and watched as the hostess and server seemingly destroyed that hope. Even while we bought tickets for a show and was told we were on a limited time basis to see the act. We could move to the back once our table time was over; yet there were no seats available. Spent about 40 mins watching the band setup and less than 30 mins into the show, about 4 songs in, was told we were being pushed to the back as more guests were coming in. The server was rushed and rude and attempted to take our drinks away while half full. Meanwhile the band is giving their best and this place is bastardizing them, not paying them, and having them beg for tips and shamming folks inside just to make a mark out of them. What a shame.

Great show and drinks. They asked to move our reservation early because the show moved up. Turns out the show wasn't moved up, so we got less time for the show. Still saw 60 minutes, but kinda seemed like they just wanted to get another table in.

My hubby and I came here tonight for the first time and we loved it. We enjoyed the cocktails and the jazz music. Great vibe! I also love that it is within walking distance from our high rise. I'm looking forward to hanging out here again.

Fantastic ambient and the dinner during restaurant week was one of the best dinners i have had in a while. Highly recommend the duck bao, sirloin and the mochi waffle. The bartender was super at giving recommendations of amaretto drinks!

What a great place. The drinks were great, food was good and music is fun!!! Week nights are better than weekends from what we experienced!

Great destination for live jazz. Really fun atmosphere, their cocktails and food are amazing as well. The acoustics at the venue were good too. We sat at a table that had a decent sight line to the stage, but sound was great no matter where you sit.

Had a great time here listening to Loretta gooden and the SF sextet. The atmosphere in here is great - small enough that everyone has a good seat, dark, and cozy. The cocktails were really well made, we tried the Duke's Manhatten, the Mister Loveless, and the Daybreak Espresso. For dinner we had the Soup dumplings, the pork spicy dumplings, Gai Lan, and a few more. The fish was perfectly cooked, slightly crispy. Would recommend checking this place out for a date night or with a small group.

Great jazz bar for any jazz enthusiasts - music isn't too loud for conversations and the staff are very friendly and prompt. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 simply because it's quite pricey - there's a $15 cover to sit at a table and $12 cover to sit at the bar, and on top of that there's a $20 minimum spend per person.

Nice concept for a cocktail/jazz bar. Reserve a table for 90 mins and you’re guaranteed an hour of jazz music. While I’m not a jazz fan, I liked the music on my Saturday evening visit. The singer had a great 1940s feel to her voice, and the band were all very competent musicians. Good cocktail and drink selection. Food is basically dim sum and the dumplings I tried were tasty. Service was efficient.

Amazing live jazz, a great ambiance, and the food selection is great. Plus a unique, rotating drink menu! Definitely a must visit location. Make a reservation for your best seating, although there is a walk in bar area.

Regularly come here and love it every time. Sometimes it’s a hit or miss with the bands. Some are mind blowing and others are just good. But this place is such a vibe. The staff is great, food is good and I really enjoy the drinks, especially their NA selection.

My friends and I had the pleasure of visiting our local jazz bar Mr. Tipple, yesterday, and I can confidently say it was an experience to remember. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the inviting ambiance and the soulful tunes that filled the air. The live music was nothing short of spectacular. The talented musicians created an atmosphere that transported us to a world of jazz magic. The selection of songs was diverse, showcasing the performers' incredible skill and passion for their craft. Whether you're a jazz enthusiast or a casual listener, the music had a universal appeal that resonated with everyone in the audience. What truly set this jazz bar apart, however, was the impeccable service we received. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. Attentive without being intrusive, they seemed to anticipate our needs, making the evening feel seamless and enjoyable. The cozy seating and intimate setting added to the overall charm of the place, creating a perfect environment to unwind and appreciate the live music. The attention to detail in the decor enhanced the vintage jazz club feel, making it a unique and memorable setting for a night out. Whether you're a jazz aficionado or simply looking for a delightful evening out, I highly recommend giving Mr.Tipple bar a visit. It's a gem in our local scene, offering not only incredible music but also a level of service that sets it apart from the rest. Kudos to the talented musicians and the dedicated staff for creating such a wonderful space. We'll definitely be returning for more musical magic in the future.

Mr. Tipple’s Jazz Club, located at 39 Fell St, San Francisco, is a lively spot featuring craft cocktails, dim sum, and live music from local players. The cocktails at Mr. Tipple’s are okay. The food, on the other hand, is great. The club offers tasty dim sum, wontons, and fried chicken. I particularly recommend the bao. The highlight of the evening, without a doubt, is the music. The club features local jazz artists up close and personal. However, there is one aspect of the experience that could use improvement. Each reservation has a 90-minute time limit for standard seating ($20). This time constraint can feel quite restrictive and somewhat ruins the experience. Just when you’re getting into the groove and losing yourself in the music, you’re reminded of the ticking clock.

Mr. Tipple's is a class act jazz bar, the best they come. I've been twice now, and the jazz music was amazing each time. The interior is designed like a 1920s, Gatsby era speakeasy with beautiful wood paneling and soft gold and rose lighting. The bar at the back is gorgeous and the bartenders were friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. The tables are arranged facing the small stage in the corner and the music is very much privileged as the main attraction. Speaking of, the music was exquisite: a soulful trio one night and a hard bop quartet the other. The prices are very reasonable and the cover charge is too. I fully recommend this place to jazz lovers and will be coming back regularly

Great music, cool vibe, solid drinks, and decent food. Sketchy neighborhood but within walking distance to Hayes Valley. Try to get a reservation if you want a table. Recommended!

Everyone providing service was extremely attentive and friendly! Went there to early celebrate a birthday with LIVE Jazz music! Food was great in my opinion! My wife had two Manhattan’s which previous reviews highly recommended! She’s the drinker, not me but she confirmed that the Manhattan was definitely worth it!! Back to the food - we had the Roasted Duck and Pork Belly Bao; each of us not realizing they were large and we could’ve shared. They were really, really good! We also, had the Shanghai Soup Dumplings and I believe this was a new item, Lamb Dumplings !! Whoa, the Lamb Dumplings were so good!! Loved the atmosphere and enjoyed ourselves!! We also had the Mochi Waffles with Earl Grey ice cream; it was different but we tried it and it was ok! Thanks for a fabulous evening!

Fairly regular band, Alpha Rhythm Kings, made for a beautiful night, especially with their rendition of Duke Ellington's Caravan. The wonderful and knowledgeable staff also made for a memorable evening.

A shock that such solid jazz was just under our nose the whole time. Already recommended MTRS to two friends who also loved it. Prices are fair and quality is high! The check in was a bit messy but not too memorable once you get to your seat.

Amazing Jazz venue with great food and drinks! Books phenomenally talented local acts from all corners of jazz and is clearly a labor of love from the owner and staff.

I sort of hate to write this review as we want more live Jazz bars and not less. But the business model of this place looks shady. Music seems to be a front for selling bad food and drinks. The only thing good about this place is live jazz music which is always good. But the live music is only played 6:30- 8 pm, so unless you have had dinner, you are likely the order food and drinks. The drinks are really watered down and not prepared well. The food is catered from a neighboring restaurant. The dimsum is good but pricey and the main dishes are rip off. $26 for a short rib which was not even a short rib and had no taste. Service is terrible as we were sitting at the bar only with few other people. The bartender first brought the wrong drink and gave looks when we said this is not what we ordered and then forgot 1 of the 2 dishes we ordered. After waiting for a while and trying to get attention, he comes and interrogates us if we really did not get the food. Turns out he forgot to order and took so much time that we were ready to leave. Then on top of that they charge a 20% mandatory service charge. Lord save this place.

Excellent venue for jazz. Great ambiance with craft cocktails and superb service. Josh Jones quintet is the best.

Mr. Tipple's was an excellent place before the pandemic. Now, they're requiring pre-payment, booster shots, and serving Chinese food. I'm sure the music and cocktails are still great, but it's a shame about everything else.

The music on 29 Dec was great! The club had a great vibe, and the food was delicious. How often can one get black cod in pot at a Jazz Club. Oh, & soup dumplings. Service was friendly and attentive. The music was smoking! I enjoyed myself thoroughly. Go! Check it out! Have some fun
