Before I give details about this 3 star review, I love staying at the Westin typically. If it weren’t for the overly accommodating staff at this property I would have given this property a 2 star review. Let’s start with what was good- the location is fantastic. The front desk folks and cleaning staff were so friendly and helpful. That’s about it. For the price, this hotel needs tons of maintenance. In my room alone there were several issues like ripped up carpet, mysterious and disgusting stains on the wall and a shower that filled up past my ankles during my shower. At a four star hotel, I don’t expect perfection but I do expect the rooms to be properly maintained.

We received excellent service from the staff. They were very friendly and flexible. We wanted to run a quick errand before checking out and weren't sure if we'd be back in time for check out. No problem. Both luggage stewards were fun and professional. The room was clean and well maintained. The bed was comfortable. Valet parking was effortless and rather reasonably priced when compared with other options. We're looking forward to our next stay.

Super nice old hotel in San Francisco. Clean and near so much to do. Close to upscale shopping. This is why I didn't rate it 5 stars: The noise. The cleaning crew is super loud. The trolleys are loud. You can hear everything in every room. Being an older hotel I guess there is a lack of insulation. If you aren't planning to stay much in your room, that's no big deal. I wanted to rest, it was worth a star to me. Yes, I could have called down to the main desk to complain about music blasting from next door or the cleaning crew yelling, but I am not that type of person. I only mention so if you want day rest, bring ear plugs or find another hotel. Everything else about this hotel was great. There are restaurants and bars on the property, a nice gym, laundry service, and like I mentioned near so much.

Lovely hotel in a fantastic location. The lobby is like going back in time, with lovely marble columns. There is a couple of bars in the hotel and a cafe that also sells food. The elevators to the rooms have a system where you have to swipe your room card, then press the floor where you are going. Then you see on the screen what elevator you have to get. The rooms are very nice, with lovely comfortable beds and nicely decorated. Avoid the rooms next to the elevators , you can hear the elevators going up and down all the time like if there was a tram running right next to your bed. I noticed this too late and I couldn’t be bothered asking for a room change as I had everything out of my suitcase. Instead I called reception and asked if they could send me some ear plugs and they sent 2 pairs in less than 5 minutes. But even with the ear plugs I still could hear the elevator. I would have given a 5 start review, I’m taking one start for the noise of the elevators

This is a great historical hotel in the city but the service is not to the usual Marriott quality. We had their 1 bedroom unit. We asked for a roll-away bed because their website stated “no bed in sofa” but the guy who delivered the bed stated “sofa has bed” which was confusing. He also had an attitude since he had to take it back. The sofa bed didn’t extend completely due to TV stand and was useless. Luckily our kid was able to sleep on the sofa without issues. There were no robes in the room with few towels too. We requested more towels but took a few days because towels weren’t delivered. Cafe Rito is convenient for a quite bite to eat. I hope the service will improve to Marriott’s standards.

Great spot to stay! Everyone at the hotel were very helpful. Valet parking is a bit pricey - $75 a night. But it is safe & the staff are always quick to get your vehicle. The rooms are lovely, great views and a cool elevator on the outside of the building! The breakfast buffet is wonderful, great food options, and very attentive and helpful staff! The lobby was beautifully and extensively decorated for Halloween!! A wonderful stay here!

Overall, I would say my husband and I had a good experience at the Westin. Location was central to shopping, transit, great restaurants and walking distance from Chinatown. Only issues we experienced was our room not being a king room like we originally requested & paid for. We were told we booked a Queen at check in but My reservation email clearly stated I booked a king room. Since there were no king rooms the manager was kind enough to try to make it right by comping us vouchers for the Oak room breakfast buffet. The Oak room had a good breakfast selection and the service was friendly and fast. And while I’m glad we got a free breakfast, overall I would say if you’re paying the $29 per person for the buffet it’s not worth it. Save your money & check out other breakfast & brunch spots nearby like The Grove.

It's located in the central Union Square area, accessible to cable car, cabs and shopping. The ambience of this hotel is lively and elite. It's cafeteria serves one of the best coffee and snacks. The rooms are super spacious and clean. The service in this hotel is one of the best I've experienced and the staff is very cooperating and polite. The hotel has a wine tasting room, where you can enjoy a nice glass of fine wine.

Room: uncomfortable bed, one side much softer than the other. Very bland and old. The sofa was also incredibly uncomfortable. Service: the check in was terrible. We asked to pay for an upgrade and we were told we had the best suite in the hotel, it wasn’t true. The valet was barely helpful. We had housekeeping come to the room 3 times each day within the span of a hour to try to clean the room, we told each one, every day, to give us until 11. The breakfast staff was great. Location: alright during the day but don’t walk around outside after dark.

We've had the most wonderful stay here! The hotel is simply beautiful and perfectly maintained throughout. The staff, from the reception, the concierge to the wonderful and most delicious breakfast we've experienced in a hotel. The room was spectacular and super clean. Thank you again for the reception team! Worth every penny, with old world classic charm!

This location is great for visiting San Francisco. But we were really disappointed with the cleanliness of our room. When we arrived, there was a dirty glass sitting out in the hallway beside our door. There was trash from the previous guest in the ice holder. The bed had no fitted sheet. We requested one and it was brought up and put on the bed. But the housekeeper (who was very nice) explained that most of their king sized sheets don’t fit correctly but that she found a bigger one for us. I think this is absurd. The Westin doesn’t have proper king sized sheets?! For the amount that we paid for this room - we were very unimpressed. I won’t spend money there again. The staff we interacted with were incredibly nice, professional, and friendly however. The gentleman at the front desk was great as well.

Clean, good service, beautifully decorated. Our room was underwhelming, but comfy and very clean. Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful, but there are a few folks who look down their noses at people like myself who wear jeans on a daily basis😊 You can walk to the Ferry Building in about 20 minutes, and the cable car comes by regularly. Found a nice diner nearby to have breakfast, and there is a CVS right across the street. Lots of shopping in the area if you’re into that.

To be honest, I've had so many horrible San Francisco hotel experiences. I kind of forgot. There were actually nice hotels until this day. He was incredibly affordable under $200 a night right at Union square across the street from the Christmas tree and ice skating! Everything is a real throwback to a beautiful time. Marble doorways and bronze elevator doors. Unbelievable decorations and beautiful apartment style. Hotel rooms. All exceptionally well kept and maintained. Nothing is run down even though it's such a beautiful older gem!

I’m giving this place five stars but I feel like I stayed in two different hotels during my stay. Part of it was in the older, historic section of the hotel while the other part of my stay was in the new tower. The older rooms aren’t bad, but they suffer from the same problems that all historic hotel rooms do: paper thin walls. And also that they’re relatively small. I also wound up in a room that was right next to one of the elevator banks. I can sleep through anything, so it didn’t bother me, but just be aware that some of the rooms can be pretty noisy if you’re a light sleeper. The more modern rooms I have no complaints about. Our room was spacious, well furnished, and the rest of our stay was top notch. The staff were fantastic as well. Definitely a good visit and I would recommend staying here.

Great service by the concierge. This classic hotel has smaller rooms, but it has been nicely renovated with modern electrical outlets, lights, and bathroom. The morning breakfast area made it very convenient to grab food and get the day started. The location on Union Square allows easy transit by foot or cable car.

Beautiful hotel (beautifully decorated lobby), Central location, rooms were clean, beds were comfy! The cable car stops directly in front of the hotel, which is convenient, but it is usually crowded before the hotel stop. I was becoming a bit worried prior to my arrival after reading some of the reviews regarding the “homeless” population and about the area being “sketchy.” We never felt unsafe in the area, even walking around after dark. There was a decent police presence all throughout the day and night. Jeff @ the concierge desk was extremely helpful in getting us acquainted with what to see/do/eat in the area and outside of the area! If I ever return to SF I will definitely stay at this hotel !

The staff went above and beyond during our stay. I was on a diet and was just able to eat chicken and vegetables. I went to the front desk and spoke with a manager and asked him for a good place to go to eat on my diet. He asked what room I was in and said he would have dinner delivered in 30 minutes. Exactly 30 minutes later room service was at my door with 2 5oz chicken breast and vegetables carrots and green beans. This is what service is, going the extra mile to make someone feel special by doing something as little as this. The maid was friendly and we chatted every morning on our way to breakfast. Thanks for making us feel important and for the room with an amazing view of the Golden Gate Bridge and Coit Tower. Amazing!!

Our favorite place to stay when in San Francisco. Close to everything. Beautiful views of Union Square. A stunning historical hotel. The front desk and entire staff are always great. Bailey checked us in and was so friendly. We had a beautiful junior suite. Amazing. We highly recommend you join Westin St Francis historian Howard Mutz for the historical tour he leads. What a lovely man who is so entertaining, giving you all the history of the hotel and showing you parts you otherwise would never see. We love this hotel and always look forward to our next visit.

This spacious hotel has plenty and also little bits of everything which all come together to make a great experience. Centrally located in Union Square so I can walk or take a train to anywhere I desire. The cafe in the lobby also served fresh pasta dishes, which I found quite delicious on a rainy day. Also, as a bit of a history buff I love how there are display cabinets and signs in the lobby showcasing the history of the building. Last but not least, thanks to Herman for the smooth and easy check in process. He even gave me a complimentary upgrade for my room, so cool of him! My first time in San Fran and this hotel has left an everlasting impression.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel with amazing features. The best part about this stay was George, the bellman. He went above and beyond and literally explained the historic 1900s architecture as he took us to our room. We had one little mishap with our room at check-in, but George went and grabbed us new keys and took us to an upgraded room. The food at their café/Italian restaurant was superb. Gorgeous!!!

I was a guest last week and left an external hard drive in the safe. I called only yesterday and your lovely security lady went to the trouble of going into the room and checking the safe. She found the drive and I received it today. I cannot thank the hotel staff enough for their incredible service finding this very important item. Amazing service. And we really enjoyed our stay.

The location, the staff, and the room were all excellent. The buffet breakfast and the staff presenting the meal in the Oak Room were a very pleasant way to begin the day. The room was spacious and had an excellent view of the San Francisco skyline. The gym was also a fantastic place to work out. This grand dame hotel with its adjacent tower is very well managed and definitely a wonderful place to stay while in San Francisco.

A beautiful historic hotel in the heart of downtown. There's everything you need within a few blocks. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. The only negatives were, the elevators to the towers are attached to the outside of the building, so they're freezing and terrifying. Second, the valet takes FOREVER! You only have the option of using valet. They have an on sight garage, which is very expensive, about $75 a day, but you can't self park. On average we'd stand there with a crowd of 30 people for 15+ minutes. We were out sightseeing most days but we didn't feel like we could make pit stops at our hotel because we'd be at the mercy of the valet. It was bad enough that I would look for a different hotel for our next visit. ✌️

Staff was super friendly and accommodating. The hotel is well maintained and kept spotlessly clean. Rooms are comfortable but lacking a view. The side of the hotel I was on, seemed to be cold and drafty (side effect of having elevators that are actually outside). Would stay here again? If the company is paying...certainly. The rates were a bit too pricey for me to stay on my own dime.

Lovely location, very conveniently located to business and tourist destinations. There are pretty vast differences between the rooms in the different parts of the hotel - if you have issues with your room, please notify the front desk. My room was clean, comfy, and quiet. No complaints. Service at the desk was friendly but very, very slow at check in. I would suggest using the mobile key option, but I tried that and it didn't work at any point during my stay. The dining options within the hotel are varied but also spendy. If you're here for business, it is well worth it to just leave the hotel for one of the many meal options nearby.

Prime location (facing the union sq), beautiful room, warm service. The breakfast is really good, served at the beautiful oak room & grab-and-go breakfast is also tasty and has a good value. With quite a history, the hotel is just beautiful. The bar on the ground floor is superb. Such a pleasant experience. I would love to come back!
