Excellent location, fairly spacious rooms, and bathrooms with fans that automatically turn on when one takes a shower (unusual among hotels in SF). I was given a room looking out at a blank white wall; not great. The gym has lots of cardio machines, with limited but adequate weight training options. Google Maps has silly photos from the hotel showing the fitness center, so I am posting some better views of the layout for travelers to decide for themselves.

It’s called a W, but this hotel looks like a nightclub all day, starting with the very dim lighting and loud rap music in the lobby and common areas ALL DAY. The bar area is overcrowded at nights- looks like a pickup place- def not what I’d call a business or family-friendly hotel. There is no lobby area really to sit to make a phone call. Service has much room for improvement- our room was not made the second day- no explanation was offered when asked- no apology either. We were out from noon to 11pm, so I don’t understand why a hotel like W can’t make a room in all day. The destination fee is just a way to charge more for the room. I didn’t find any value. When I booked the room, the Marriott website said that the fee included a tote bag. When we arrived, front desk had no idea. We aren’t staying here again. We like the Marriott group, but also have a strong preference for a professional ambience.

Great hotel with amazing city views. A lot of public attractions are at walking distance. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would like to say thanks to their Front desk person Albert who helped me in upgrading my room and also offered us two complimentary drinks from the bar when I mentioned him that i am here to celebrate my gf birthday. Thank you for your great service and enlivening the values of great industry. You made our trip very special.

Excellent hotel. The staff was truly helpful, flexible and friendly and very professional. For example, sending a package, extra tea kettle, tea and coffee, arranging taxi and local directions. Great room and great exercise room. Great location right next to the museum of modern art. I would be happy to stay there again

The front desk staff was not as friendly as the rest of the staff at the hotel. The housekeeping staff was superb. Restaurant staff was superb as well.

I used to be a frequent guest at the W SF back when it was Starwood but had not visited since Marriott took over the W Brand. I did try and stay last year but before arriving I read that the restaurant was closed and I asked the hotel what they were doing as an alternative, but they had absolutely nothing for Platinum Breakfast (other than 1k points per stay which is a HUGE downgrade), so I opted for another hotel. I had high expectations for this stay as I had previously loved this hotel, but as a frequent traveler in Marriott brands (and staying at W Brands lately), I knew service levels were still suffering post pandemic. Unfortunately, it started low right from the beginning. I had confirmed a Studio Suite in advance. When I arrived, I was given a corner room that almost seemed smaller than standard rooms (Room 2109). I inquired about upgrades to larger rooms, and I was told no, because it was a busy weekend, and nothing would be available. I checked on the app and saw that every room type was available for the length of my stay and beyond. I was basically DOWNGRADED. Once settling into the room, then I realized the major issues. Smaller rooms should be easier to clean, right? Well, this one not only had carpet stains, but I quickly found out that the "Marriott Commitment to Clean" was actually a Commitment to Ignore. Not only were their stains on the carpet and dust and dirt in the windowsills, I found a previous guest's room keys sitting on the counter. Obviously, the room was just "re-set" and not inspected or cleaned at all. I guess the promised sanitizing was out of the question. We then went to get some ice and noticed that the ice bucket was half filled with standing water. It was disgusting! Thats not the worst part, I then found a pair of women's "play-style" lingerie slightly soiled sitting on the floor by the sofa. I mentioned the cleanliness issues to the Front Desk, but the representative simply stared at me and then asked if there was anything else I needed? I should have been a bit more insistent that they take it down, but I was so shocked I did not. The room setup, although smaller than what I wanted and pre-confirmed, was also not great. There is no storage at all other than the closet. There are no drawers at all or other places to keep clothes or anything else. If you have two suitcases, you are going to have to keep them out as there is no place to put them in the closet. Other than the Front Desk and Room Condition, we had a nice stay, although the Room is really what we paid for. The rest of the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. The breakfast staff were great, and the food was amazing! Kudos for them for sure! Actually, the only place I was every recognized or thanked for being a Marriott Elite was from the hostess at Breakfast. The bellhop was also quite nice and helpful when we checked-out and needed to store luggage for a bit. This is not the W San Francisco it used to be, and it is clear they are struggling in the important areas yet seem to be able to excel in the softer areas of the experience. I hope they are able to fix these issues, as I love the W Brand.

Got upgraded to a nice suite with my platinum status. The room is really nice with a standard city view. The bed was very comfortable as well. I was very happy with my in room dining experience. My chicken tender with extra crispy fries was done perfectly. However, I was very annoyed by the housekeeping staff. The first day, they knocked on the door and I asked no housekeeping please. But they still tried to open the door TWICE. The second day I made sure the "Do not disturb" sign was there along with a written note, yet they still tried to enter the room...

This hotel is quite literally amazing. The staff was very friendly and the vibes of the hotel were great. This is a more of a “party” vibe luxury hotel, which is what the W brand is (so don’t complain if you expect otherwise). The rooms look brand new! They are extremely clean and very modern. The view is amazing and the windows are even clean. I will 100% check out this hotel again when I stay in S.F. AMAZING HOTEL with amazing Staff.

As for W hotels this one is ok. It was not my favorite because of the hotel design. The lobby seemed a little off. The location is great so I would consider again for a stay. The front desk wasn’t the most friendly and I sent an email before my stay and they didn’t get back to me. The staff was attentive when asking for things. I feel like the restaurant and bar used to be busy and some work needs to be done to get it back to those levels. No frills, clean room and furnishings in good condition…after all it is a W.

This was my second time staying at the W San Francisco and it was just as great of an experience as the last time. The rooms have been renovated since my last stay, and the gold accents were just as welcoming and warm as they were modern. The bed is fantastic, although I do prefer firmer pillows, and the bathroom was clean and quite large for a hotel. The property itself is fantastic; the music is top-notch (I've never spent more time Shazam'ing songs than I do when at the W) and the lobby bar was fantastic. This has become my hotel go-to when traveling to SF and I can't see that changing anytime soon. I can't wait to return.

I didn't stay here, but I was a vendor for an event in one of their banquet rooms, and I unfortunately lost one of my bags. Kareem on their security team promptly found it, and gave me a claim number, and everyone I spoke to was both helpful and courteous. The parking is definitely a little pricey, but the staff are fantastic.

I liked the stay given I was on a business trip and needed to quickly reach a number of locations (even on foot at times). W was great, nice clean rooms where I appreciated the presence of a handheld steam iron (nice touch). Less appreciated were the incredibly dirty windows and the fact that some of the very pushy merchandise (and drinks) did not have a price on them.

AMAZING VIEWS, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND UPGRADING TO A CORNER ROOM, the larger rooms and amazing views are undefeated and you won't regret it! Rooms:I love the eclectic style of the W hotels and really loved this one. The room is new, airy, and clean. Food: The room service and restaurant meals are also very good and moderately priced. Service: The staff are generally friendly, the young lady was so nice and helpful, and everyone else was quite warm. I noticed some reviews mentioning mid-tier service, but I did not expect them to bend over backwards for me, so I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice everyone was. Overall a 9.5/10 stay. Only issue was the high incidentals charge, about 300/night. Thank you for the amazing stay!

Great hotel really enjoyed staying here. The location was great and walkable to Union Square and very central for the touristic places. The museum of modern art is right next to the hotel so it was very convenient. The room was clean and their restaurant especially breakfast was great with good selections and tasty. Even though it wasn’t that safe to walk at night there wasn’t any homeless outside of the hotel or that street so it was somewhat safe. Staff were friendly. I would stay here again and would recommend!

Really nice hotel in a convenient location. It was clean and the rooms were spacious. The drawback is the restaurant closes after lunch, so the only in-hotel option for dinner is expensive room service where the fees are about 50% of the food cost. Fortunately there are several restaurants nearby in walking distance. There's also not really amenities like a spa or gym.

Good hotel if you’re only staying for a couple of nights and you’re on business. Walls are thin so we heard every snore, shout and shower from rooms next to ours. Average facilities generally and only coffee no tea in the room. Breakfast is tasty but super expensive and you need to order off a menu instead of having a buffet self serve. Instead go to the Grove 1 min away for food.

I am writing about our most recent Thursday May 12th stay. Simply stated it was all around great. The car valets awesome. The younger woman at the registration desk, I am embarrassed I have forgotten her name, is a fabulous first representative for the hotel. We had dinner reservations elsewhere but decided to eat at the bar and really enjoyed the service we received from Clay, Jeremy, and William. Bar professionals all around. We were very pleased with the quality of the food served at the bar. I understand the W has a new executive Chef, what an excellent experience the staff delivered! We really like the higher floor well appointed corner room. The room was clean and inviting. We look forward to our next visit. Per our experience, The W is right there with the best of anything the City has to offer.

I don’t know how a W can manage a worse visitor experience than a Residence Inn at 4x the cost but never let it be said this hotel isn’t up for a challenge. You can really tell it’s a high class establishment by the strip club next door. Enjoy the resort fee… oh, excuse me - the “Destination fee”. Being walking distance to the Moscone center is its only redeeming quality, and there are other hotels that can provide that particular benefit.

I didn't stay here but I had a conference event a few weeks ago at this location. One particular woman, I didn't catch her name but she has dreadlocks and wore glasses. She was really kind to me and I just wanted to thank her for making me feel so welcome and ask that you pass this along to her or give her any kind of kudos or reward.

Reasonable hotel accommodations. Rooms are clean, convenient location, and good service. A couple things caused me to dock a star - the beds are a bit old and uncomfortable, they don't have any pillows suitable for side sleepers, and they charge a mandatory $35 per night "resort fee". It's unclear why they don't just include that in the room rate, it's a bit misleading.

Stayed here for 5 nights. The staff here is amazing. They couldn't have been more accommodating for our family including our 14 month old. Bar is great, breakfast is good especiallyfor those who have status. Can't say enough about this W, really excellent experience.

  • 4/5 A K. 9 months ago on Google
Rooms are not quiet. You can hear everything around your room and beyond your walls/ceiling. Not a quiet place for light sleepers. It is clean (as it should be). For a room with 2 guests, only 1 bottle of water was in the room. As if they wanted you to fight between yourselves who will get the bottle of water. Also, there's a Nespresso machine but no extra water for that, either. They were not very generous with something as basic as in-room water. The lack of parking/expensive valet and noise was the biggest downside of this hotel. The service team was great and the hotel was well kept.

Great hotel. Nice room - I got a corner one with great views. And good amenities in the room. Room lobby is decent. Overall good experience.

Good hotel for a business stay. Centrally located near Moscone and Salesforce. The room was a good size and upscale. Good bar and gym. Food ok.

I chose this hotel because of it's convenient location but I will choose it again because of my weeklong experience staying here. The décor is unique, modern, very clean and very well maintained, everything feels like new. The heating and cooling is super responsive, the internet always works, the bed was like sleeping on a cloud. The staff was friendly and helpful, and truly did go above and beyond. Everyone from the restaurant staff, to the reception to the concierge desk were super responsive and helpful. On Feb 3, my last day, it was raining outside, the front desk offered umbrellas on loan to guests. When I needed to change my pickup time Gerardo, immediately sprang into action, making it feel like I was the only person at the hotel. Gerardo sets a new bar for concierge. Francisco (the new guy) was right their with him, learning from the best :)

Besides the Wi-Fi thing, W is a great place to stay. It’s central location and easy access makes visiting and nightlife easier. It’s also that they allowed us to ask for our room to get cleaned when we wanted. That was very nice of them. All the hotel personnel were always cordial and friendly and just plain great service overall. I thought as usual that the Wi-Fi purchase requirement would be an issue, but 5G made it so the Wi-Fi was irrelevant. 5 stars definitely.

Not a Wow experience. The staff was (mostly) unfriendly. Poor customer service. Only care for ambassador guests others must not expect anything including a decent service. Will make you feel as if they did you favor for pretty much anything.

  • 3/5 P E. 1 year ago on Google
Clean and well maintained hotel along with comfortable and great rooms. Extremely disappointed on the level of recognition as an Ambassador Elite Member. Marriott International purchase of Starwood was the WORDT thing it could have happened to the brand. Ridiculous “breakfast” option as an Ambassador Elite Member - very cheap and disappointing. Begs the questions why spend the money in a brand/program that’s extremely cheap and counting penny’s with its most “loyal” customers? 0 recognition at the hotel, no personalized welcome gift in the room, no personalized acknowledgment as a Ambassador Elite - this properly could care less. So if you want a clean and comfortable hotel, this is it. If you expect anything else from it…you better go elsewhere.

Suppose you want to stay at a(n) hotel where they value their guests, book with the W San Fransisco. I booked through their website a month or so before my stay. I was so looking forward to staying at a four-star hotel. The hotel had great prices for the summer. I booked a 1 night's stay. I paid for a prepaid room with no cancelation. I was okay with that since I knew I wasn't going to cancel. But as life can come at you, a few days before my stay I caught Covid. I was so bummed since I was looking forward to going on my trip. Here is the reason why I left them a five-star rating. I was honest about what had happened to me. They looked up my reservation and saw that I couldn't cancel or get a refund. But they worked with me and the manager approved my refund and canceled my stay. I was so happy with them. The next time I travel to San Fransisco I will be booking with the W San Fransisco.

One of my favorite places to stay in the city. Has gotten a little long in the tooth since my last visit but still excellent service and comfortable accommodations. Their conference rooms are kind of awkwardly laid out though. Fine for smaller groups but mid to large meetings could be a little challenged.

  • 5/5 Kate B. 1 year ago on Google
First time here and the experience was great! From the customer service at check in to the great location of this hotel, it was A++++ all the way. The front desk clerk, Cesar, was extremely helpful and accommodating. He provided excellent customer service and check in was a breeze. Hire more personnel like Cesar! We stayed in a studio suite - corner room. Wonderful! It has a Nespresso machine and ambient lighting. Will definitely make the W one of my go-to in San Francisco.

Stayed here for one night and overall the rooms, decor of the hotel are amazing. The staff were also very pleasant and gracious. The only disappointing thing was the breakfast.. for the price I expected it to taste better. But it was average. I will say it's convenient to eat there but next time I'll look into outside locations in the area.

  • 2/5 Celine C. 1 year ago on Google
Food and service at TRACE were great. Valet guys were nice. I informed front desk about the CORNERS of the wood bed frame that need to be covered to protect future guests. I even showed them the painful black and blue part of my leg caused by hitting those corners. Wooden coffee/tea stirrers were not wrapped, exposed to dust and dirt. Room phone needs service and cleaning. I did not feel the usual TLC (tender loving care) that staff in other Marriott hotels accorded me, a Bonvoy member. I felt discriminated. I requested to talk to the manager, TYLER, but he was worse! Never mind any courtesy discounts, upgrades or whatever, how guests are treated is more important. He ruined my weekend. Will never go back! PS- parking was $85/night plus 14% tax, a total rip off!!!
