DO NOT STAY HERE!! They guy at the front desk was very dismissive and unhelpful, right off the bat dealing with bad customer service. There is a hidden $20 CASH ONLY deposit that was not stated anywhere when making a reservation, and there was no sign at the front desk. Most rooms are upstairs so if you're a wheelchair user or can't handle four flights of stairs you're out of luck. The rooms are nasty and unclean. Comforter on the bed had multiple cigarette burn holes as well as various unknown stains, as well as on the sheets and pillows. They very clearly do not clean the rooms between guests. Walls are very thin so you basically have to whisper to avoid others on the same floor from hearing you. TV didn't work. Their staff is also unbelievably unprofessional. I was sent an email containing another guests information so if you value you're privacy do NOT stay here.

Currently staying in this hotel in private room with en-suite. No sheets on duvets, rooms are very cold, they don’t turn the heating on until 7 pm so room doesn’t even warm up until 10pm from the minute radiator in corner of room. Requested extra blankets to compensate to which I was told there is no spare blankets on offer. Currently in bed with hoody, jackets, hat and hood up trying to stay warm. Very poor indeed. Hospitality none existent. No consideration for customer comfort. Avoid!

Other hostels, take note. I have stayed in over 40 hostels in over 20 countries, this is probably the cleanest hostel I have been in. A travellers safe haven - ensuite rooms, plenty of space in rooms, storage, beds with their own plugs. A generous amount of shared areas with comfortable sofas and ample kitchen facilities; travellers felt happy and easy to keep clean and respect in turn. The location was excellent too - I have no hesitation is singing praises for this hostel!

Very unsanitary, beds are not cleaned after a guest checked out. They just remove the trash and sweep the floor. The blanket doesn’t have a cover or duvet and it’s used without washing after each guest. The front desk staff are very unprofessional and will yell at the guests. They are very loud. Will be in their personal cell phones talking in foreign language while a attending to guests. Zero customer service and zero hospitality. They act very arrogantly and will threaten the guests. Because the majority of their guests are foreigners and students, they feel like they can do whatever they like and disrespect their guests without any repercussion. This is very typical of the Indian

Tried to get a refund and leave a day early after they WENT AGAINST THEIR POLICY of cards only and accepted cash from a girl (who was clearly tweeking out!!) and placed her in my room! Then when we tried to get a refund (becuase we felt unsafe), the employee refused to refund us (even for the key card cash fee that I am supposed to get back once I leave.) She then got the other girl that we felt unsafe with to come and confront us about it. The other guest then started to scream in our face. Employee continued to refuse to believe that we had a reason to feel unsafe and continued to refuse to refund our money! Do not stay here!!!! Unsafe establishment with no real policies. Also, seems to only have a manager that is "in India" and "not answering calls." Even the guest commented on how unprofessional it was!

Me and some friends booked several nights at the hostel. When we arrived and wanted to check in, I felt something irritating my throat and began to cough. Then my other friends began to cough one after another. Some guests of the hostel came to the front desk and said that there is a problem, they were coughing too -something irritating is in the air. The lady at the desk went to check and returned saying its probably because of the heater in the basement, she turned it off, everything should be alright in a few minutes. At this point me and my friends went outside, all convinced - whatever it was - we are not staying there. We reasoned with the lady from the hostel and had to pay the one night and went to another hotel. Whatever happend there, whatever gas leaked, I am not risking some serious health issues to save a few dollars.

This hostel is dangerous and unsafe. My friends and I booked for three nights and on the third night they admitted a guest into our room that paid with cash, had no credit card, and told us that she had been homeless for 25 years. This guest was tweaking and we felt uncomfortable sleeping in the same room as her and leaving our belongings around her while we were gone. When we requested a refund so that we could leave and stay somewhere else, the hostel front desk representative brought the other guest who we were uncomfortable with to confront us in front of other guests in the lobby (about 15 other people). The woman who worked for Amsterdam started to point at me and my friends and say that we were lying and didn’t know who she could believe. The other woman who we did not feel safe staying overnight with started to get in my face and I told her “this is between me and the hostel not with you”. The woman who worked for Amsterdam hostel then chimed in that it was between me and the other guest. Other guests in the lobby then starting telling the employee that this is unprofessional to put my friends and the other woman in a confrontation together. It should have been handled differently. My friends and I at this point felt so unsafe that we called an Uber to pick us up immediately. We still have received no refund. They would not even refund us for the key cards we returned and they said they had no manager on duty-that the manager was in India asleep-and could not work with us. Edit: The hostel called us back the next day and said “we are declining your refund”. This place should be shut down. Don’t stay here.

The Indian guy's ( he doesn't have name badge ) at the reception desk customer service is so bad, and the guy s##ks. I booked the wrong room, and he wanted to charge extra fees to change the room. The manager is not in this hostel. How can people talk or leave feedback to the manager? Edit: The bot responded to my post. If it were a real person, it would provide how to contact manager for other travelers.

Tiny rooms, you do not get a microwave or a mini fridge either. Walls are so thin you could hear everything. Public kitchen and areas would be nice for socializing. You have to pay for parking they do not have any parking. Public fridges were nasty do not plan to use them unless needed. Window led out into a disgusting alleyway and couldn't shut the blinds. Not handicap friendly as it is up a steep hill with no wheelchair assesability. No elevator either. Do not provide breakfast and for the price of parking and the hotel not worth it! Do not recommend in any way.

Bad service and no supplies. They have 0 spare pillows, coathangers and the receptionists have no idea whats going on and you can’t control the temperature in your own room. The heaters are on a circulation governed by another body, stupid system - will never recommend or stay again.

There's no quiet hour. People are loud and listening to music most nights of our stay. Front desk personnel do nothing about it even when asked. The kitchen was lacking, very little fridge space, hardly any coffee mugs, not enough spoons, and the oven didn't work. The dining area was too small, so we had to eat most of our meals on the bed in our room. There was a surprise cash deposit for our room keys, $20 each that we didn't know about and didn't have cash for. Spend a little extra and go elsewhere.

DO NOT STAY HERE! My friend booked this hostel for two nights and ended up leaving after the first night with no refund. The room was shared with homeless people. In the middle of the night, two drunk guys entered the room, yelling and displaying aggressive behavior. The next day, he tried to speak to the staff to explain the situation and ask for a refund for the night he did not stay there. The staff was rude and of course there was no refund. If you are concerned about safety and friendliness and would like a clean place to sleep, go somewhere else. Even if you booked this place trying to save money, you'll likely end up spending more money to find a better place to stay.

DO NOT STAY HERE. The place is unclear, the blank are a disaster and you will share the room with homeless, yes with homeless. They will not refund your money doesn't care any reasons. The staff is pathetic and undoubtedly just thief. If you want to save money try other hostels in this one they will keep your money and expose your life. Terrible, the worst hostel ever

absolutely do not go to this hostel. the staff seems under the influence and not helping at all. In addition, we felt very unsafe. We had problems in our room and they were not fixed. The room is very filthy and smells unbelievable. I hope the hostel changes its name, because I'm from Amsterdam myself, and we're very different there!

Location is fine. But very poor service by some Indian ppl who hate to be there. Today was some Indian girl, just useless energy. Day before Indian guy who checked me in and didn’t tell me about the common room or kitchen. Just let me go to the room which was smelly and hot. Seems like they let some Indian family work there? Who don’t get paid? Bad attitude. The girl was nicer at the start but in the evening she was even worse than the guy. But both are a disaster.

cozy and intimate atmosphere in the heart of San Francisco. The hostel's unique charm is reflected in its décor and design. With attentive staff members, guests feel a sense of hospitality and warmth during their stay. The hostel's proximity to popular landmarks and public transportation adds to its appeal. For those seeking a distinctive and welcoming hostel experience in San Francisco, Amsterdam Hostel offers a memorable stay in the city.

I would most certainly not recommend staying here. The kitchen is filthy, the fridge has a nasty perpetual smell, the laundry is filthy, rhe washing machines are absolutely disgusting with mold growing and they say the soap is included but it is most certainly not. The rooms are incredibly small and uncomfortable, the bathrooms are dirty. I will NOT be staying here and I would NOT

Location and price is ideal. We are a family of 6, so being in the same room (3 bunkbeds) which included a private bathroom worked wonders. There's a cute courtyard downstairs with seating and bike racks, super cute. Full kitchen with dining area across from the courtyard. The hostel is a smoke free zone but you can smoke 15 feet from the entrance. (street side). Unfortunately our room was above the courtyard and we would open our windows for fresh air, only to get the whiff of cigarettes. Upon checking in, we were informed that our room had towels. This wasn't the case, we had to revisit the front desk and request for towels. As a suggestion to Management: 1) Check-in process took way too long, there was a short line forming plus couples on the couch and chairs. Update your system and guests and staff walk away happy. 2) Post a NON SMOKING sign in the courtyard. 3) Furnish the room with towels before guest arrive. 4) Handsoap and a hand towel at the sink would have been nice. 5) Over the bathroom/back of the BR door hooks would work for a place to hang damp towels. I hope Management finds this helpful.

They never clean your bed, be sure that the bed sheets are not changed for the past months. The room is super cold. It's very smelly and people smoke there and you can smell it. The bed has bed bugs and I assure you you will be bitten. Good luck with your stay

Good price and decent rooms! My first stay in a hostel and I enjoyed it. I was with friends so I didn't need to lock things away but they do have good sized boxes if you need to do so. Good area too, a nice little coffee/breakfast place nearby. Communication over the phone/email was a bit difficult but it was much better in person.

Fair price for this good and clean location. Rooms are really Clairaudient. We heard every vibration of the phone from our neighbor. Needed to use EarPads. But Rest was good!

An above standard hostel. Good kitchen, laundry, and hallways. Rooms are 6 star, wow! Bathroom and shower in bunk rooms, very convenient. Comfortable bunks, clean linens and towels. Good air flow, and not too noisy for being in a big city., And above all else, staff are exemplary in carrying out their duties and ever so pleasant.

Booked a mixed dorm, but ended up getting the room to myself which also meant I had an attached bathroom that I didn't have to share. That was super nice. There was a $10 cash only key deposit that I didn't know about before going in. I shut the windows and shades but the room was still pretty cold. Circled the blocks several times looking for parking, finally pulled into a garage. Ended up spending more on parking than the room. I didn't look thoroughly, but I didn’t see any advice for parking on the website. Everything else about the place was great. Oh, and noisy part of town. Heard stuff all night.

Checked in. Made my bunk. Saw used tissues jammed in the corner of the upper bunk as I was making it. Sheets had a crusty stain on them, don't even want to know. Drywall dust everywhere. No soap in the bathroom. Lockers? No, they don't have them like their website says. I cut my losses on my 25 bucks and just went and spent 150 on a real room across the street. I've stayed in hostels, I get what they are. But this place is plain missing on so many things, especially cleanliness. Thoroughly disappointing.

There is no elevator so you have to carry your luggage up the stairs. There was no handsoap in the bathroom. The shower was very small. The undersheet had dirt marks on it. The location was good and they have USB ports and a desk light at each bed. Checkout is early compared to other places and is 10am (I don't understand why because they don't have to do much between guests) and not the best customer service.

Giving 1 star so people read - I (make) stayed in this hostel for 3 weeks on and off and had a generally ok experience. Have to wait until 5pm for towels is a bit bad, but rooms were generally ok. I found one woman there to be very hard to deal with and she was obnoxious to myself and other guests. HOWEVER, My sister booked to stay when she came over on my recommendation and was left in tears. For $37 a night was expected to sleep on a mattress beside a door. She had a dreadful experience and we a result needed to cancel her plans and book into a hotel. Not only this, when she did get to move rooms she was put in with some very bad characters. I know hostels can be a bit of luck/unluck but our experiences were almost polar opposites.

Stayed at this hotel in September, was very nice and cozy. Although I'll list some of the pros and cons. Pros -Very convenient to Union Square, cable car stops, bus & light rail, BART Powell St station (easy commute to and from the airport), and major shops and restaurants. -Clean room and sitting area included on lower level. They allow you to cook your own food as they include a kitchen too as well as a fridge. Laundry is a reasonable price. -A no smoking hotel is always the best. -Noise level is quite low (depending on the room you're staying in). -Door is locked so that no unexpected strangers would be able to sneak in. -Luggage room for storing belongings prior to 3 PM check in. Cons -Going up and down the steep hill by the doorsteps is a good exercise, but can be tiring at the end of the day after exploring San Francisco (after all, San Francisco is made up of hills). -Chip vending machine doesn't work, lots of unsold snacks. -The kitchen is closed early in the morning. So if you wake up quite early and want to cook some breakfast, you'll have to either go out to eat, or wait till it opens later in the day. -For the laundry you'll have to purchase your own detergent. -There's no elevator but it's not a big hassle going up and down the stairs (unless you have a big heavy luggage). -No air conditioning, which is reasonable as in California the temp drops at night. The windows are open and the shutters open and are sealed tight. Overall I highly recommend this hotel as the price is not that bad. 10/10

I stayed here for three weeks in the 6 bed mixed room. I enjoyed my stay a lot and plan to stay again. The guests are super chill and so is the staff. The patio is rad and a great place to chill after a long day. No one steals, people mind their own business but you may meet a few friends along the way like I did. They have a no refund policy but you can always extend your stay. I ended up leaving a few days early and didn’t get a refund of $140 but I know for the future. Plus for SF it was a great deal to start with so I can’t complain. It’s noisy but it’s also SF so that’s not their fault. I highly recommend bringing ear plugs in case people snore or you hate city noise, you’ll be just fine. They cleaned the room every day! There’s a washer and dryer available for use for $4.50 for a wash and dry but you can only use it after 4:30pm-8am there’s a change machine too, you just have to buy/bring soap. I saw one beetle who visited me in the shower but he wasn’t gonna hurt anyone! The showers have shampoo, conditioner, and body soap. Be sure to bring $10 for a card key deposit or they will take your ID till you give it to them. Bring a lock too, there are roll out bins to store belongings. I was able to fit a carry on suitcase and my backpack in it with a little Tetris. When you check in they provide you a towel and sheets. Each bed has two outlets and two USB ports, a light, pillow and blanket. Overall, be sure to read their policy, the place is clean and worth the stay! Also City Chopsticks has great food across the street.

There was a 2-3 inches of space underneath the door so it didn't feel very private. The room was cheap but very small & simple (no coffee, no cups, no closet or drawers)

Amsterdam Hostel is situated near to Union square. It's very neat and rooms are available with multiple sharing options. They have a fully furnished kitchen and laundry service. The staffs are very friendly. While checking in need to give a security deposit of 10$ in cash, which will be returned at check out.

clean rooms and a nice backyard! lots of icky privileged tourists. the fridge needs to be cleaned and organized. i was banned from this hostel when i tried to book again. i ran over check-out time by an hour due to an emergency. & the front desk guy who i complimented for having a george michael earring was so rude to me in front of another guest who was mortified. i confronted him about doing the most over a very human thing happening & he gaslit me and doubled down. then he banned me as retaliation. men should DEFINITELY be in charge of things. san francisco has become the worst. #RIPSF

Friendly staff, let us check in very early at 9am. The place was under construction and would be very nice to visit after everything is complete. Full kitchen available for cooking and comfortable room and very nice showers.

I would have put a 4 because the hotel itself was great. Clean, nice, and accommodating. However you do hear outside noise, next door apartment people blasting their music. That didn’t bother me much, what did was our car got broken into. We parked near the front of the Hotel too. There was no cameras able to help or anything. I HIGHLY recommend you park in public parking garages if you stay here. Don’t get robbed like us. If you do park in front don’t leave anything valuable in your car.

If I'd have known what Amsterdam Hostel is like, I'd have booked a different accommodation. We had a little private room, which was pretty nice. Though, it was the very last room on the hallway. Also it was right next to some vending mashines, which have been making really loud noises throughout. Falling asleep was kinda struggle.

It's a really great hostel and they have very understanding staff. They helped immediately with any problem. The location is great, most places can be reached by walking. The rooms are new and clean, I would definitely recommend.

You get what you pay for- an incredibly cheap and dirty hostel. If you don’t care and just need a place to crash, this place is fine and it’ll do. It’s in a convenient location and there’s plenty of food options nearby. There’s a Walgreens, cvs, and 7/11 nearby and lots of cafes. However, if you do care, this place is not it. The bathrooms don’t have hand soap nor body soap and shampoo. My shower’s hot water didn’t work. It smells bad. I had to buy an air freshener to put in the bathroom. It smells like cigarettes everywhere. The lobby and hallways are musty and dingy with old carpets. The stairs are lined with duct tape. The lounge area is just a bench downstairs with a single chair by a desk. The blanket they provide is not that great. They only give you one towel. At least it’s cheap. However, I will not be choosing the Amsterdam again.

Quick two night visit in San Francisco before heading to Mexico 🇲🇽. Booked one night only due to a flight leaving on Thursday not Wednesday (my mistake). Receptionist understood my situation when asked to book another night to keep the same room. Affordable hostel

A really great hostel - I’m very puzzled why so many negative reviews! Location is great, and definitely possible to explore SF by foot from here. Check in was pretty smooth (make sure to have $10 cash deposit for the key-card in shared dorms) and friendly service. I was staying in room 301 and it was super clean, and appeared relatively newly renovated. Bed was very comfortable. Convenient power outlets and USB-A charging ports next to the pillow, as well as a personal reading lamp. Large lockable (with own personal lock) storage space under the bed is convenient. Laundry machines can be found in the basement, as can a well stocked kitchen and relaxing outdoor common area. Overall I would definitely stay here again.

Terrific location, nice rooms, well-equipped kitchen, and an incredible bargain. One caveat, though - though the daytime high temperature never reached 70°F during my 3-night stay, the room was nevertheless warm enough to justify keeping the window open. Consequently, there was a lot of street noise all night. While this didn't bother me, those who are unaccustomed to such sounds would be wise to ask for a room toward the back of the building.

First I want to apologize that I got angry at the guy at the reception but I didn't have anyone else at the moment... he was very nice. First, the parking in front of the door that are supposed to be to unload luggage were occupied for hours, as there's no sign to say it's a 5 minutes parking. Second the parking around the corner changed prices... thisrd, the lockers in the dormitory needed to be 'configured' so they were not working... a VERY important detail to put on the website I feel! Also nobody is available to hold your luggage from 9 to 9... Kitchen was very questionable, the toilet in the dorm barely worked AND an homeless slept on the bench in the entrance...!! Defenetly if you sleep there don't expect anything positive :(

Amaterdam hostel was a life saver. First time in SFO and there was a muddle up in my first hotel booking and had to rebook another hostel. Booked with Expedia and 10mins later, walked into the hostel and was given my room (note that there is a $10 deposit for room key card that you have to give in cash). Beds had chargers and reading light beside them - kinda cool. Underneath the bunks are drawers that you can keep your stuff in but you need to get your own locks. Our room had its own restroom and shower so no need to be walking around the hostel showing your six pack or soup pack for others. Pictures of the kitchen and laundry room are provided below (they'er on the bottom floor). Machine where you can change your notes to qrtrs is available, plus a vending machine for drinks and snacks. 7 eleven, Walgreens and McDonalslds are within walking distance plus heaps of bars for those that enjoy the night life. Worth every cent that i paid. Would i return here? Definitely!!

The Staffs are so rude. They let me cheak in at 3PM . And they give me the bed and room without cleaning. I saw lot of bloods and smoke on the bed. I complained to reception then he asked me to wait another 2 more hours to clean the room again. So my whole day is gone only to cheak in the room. After 2 day's morning 10AM to asked me to leave the room. Because they said cheakout is 10AM. How can cheakout is so early! I don't recommend this stupid hostel.

I booked through Agoda. I go to check in. My confirmation clearly states that I booked a room with either 2 twin beds or 1 large bed. I go to check in and front desk person tells me I booked a room that is a 4 female dorm room. This was the last room. I am not female. This was totally misrepresented. Now I have to scramble to find somewhere else when almost everything is booked solid. The oven doesn't work. I am overhearing another guest arguing with front desk person as I type this. The toilet does not flush. No communication, not even an out of order sign. Totally misrepresented. These people are shifty and accept no respond sibilty for anything that should accept reapo sibilty for. At least give discounts. Very poor service from staff. He said he would call the manager and left a vmail. That was about an hour ago. Managers need to be available during f typical business hours.

Wonderful time at this hostel. Got the room and it was clean, service was friendly and location was great. The gentleman at reception was kind and helpful and this place was amazing value for money. I highly recommend it to everyone on a tight budget. Check the photos for an idea of what you getting. Thank you for turning a nightmare into a dream! First time here, very hesitant to stay at Hostels. However, this little gem of a hotel gave me a run for my money. One of the few places that accepts cash, a low deposit of $4 and enjoys if you pay by card, but it's not obligated. Before you roll your eyes, let's start with safety. Secure, from the moment you enter the front door. The backdoor is secured, you have the privacy of a backyard with bikes on racks. It enters this amazing kitchen, like full on kitchen, not a kitchenette. I like to eat out, but this time, I stayed in. Love the kitchen and it also has a quiet dining area 😁 low lit with a 🧱 wall. I love the details. You can store your food in private bins as well. Did I mention the coffee is delicious? Now, about rooms..CLEAN. Soft beds & pillows, you will be provided with fitted sheets and pillowcase at check-in. Towel and Blankets are also provided, you can bring your own toiletries. Shampoo/Conditioner/Body wash installed with the privacy of the bathroom, in your room. The water is hot! Very important 😄 clean water dispenser also available, you can bring your own botte. Common areas later in the evening are also quiet, for those who enjoy staying in and doing work ☺️ You don't have to leave the building to do laundry. Nearby, there is everything, from 🚆 to McDonald's. Did I mention great coffee? Tea is also available. Although there is no elevator, you have a very cool and authentic experience of a upscale dorm experience. You can opt for a single room or share with the homies. Classic architecture, high ceilings and spiraling staircases. It's cool to me, so I have say, 5/5. Excellent 👌 Service. Did I mention safety? Officers are nearby Union Square, if you feel like taking a stroll. Great location, great staff, and wonderfully diverse travelers. I hope you enjoy it here as much as I have. Thank you 😊 Happy New Year 🎊 P.S. You can also store bags here via Bounce app 😎
