Lots of stairs when coming up and leaving hostel. The commons area has no windows which makes it a bit dark and dungeony as well as stuffy. Besides that I would describe the hostel as a 'family like vibe'. Open kitchen concept, and you can still speak/hang with other travellers while cooking. Very inclusive. The staff were very helpful and had recommendations for anything you were looking for. Bathrooms are cleaned regularly which is fantastic.

Great camping 🏕️ stay! Clean, humorous sign and friendly staff. Quite a few of stairs because that’s how the building is designed, skinny tall building with no elevator. If you’re in OK shape you will be fiend to climb up and down the stairs! Highly recommend for downtown SF central stay

Very well located. Not expensive at all, and I felt very safe and at home there, I can’t explain why. The bed was super comfy, and I had two pillows 😍 The kitchen was clean and the showers and toilets too, and they organize many things everyday !

Great location and a great crew operating the place. While the rooms and beds are fairly basic if you're not fussy they do just fine. The shared bathrooms are pretty good. Overall a good hostel to stay at, but be prepared for the stair climb when you enter through the door!

I will it 6/10 Rating. Good things about this hostel is Guy Named TJ on the reception. He is super cool and nice guy. aother 02 ladies staff of hostel are also nice. Location is Ok. Wasrooms are super clean.Very small but ok. Negative Points. - Breakfast items are very limited. Hostel is located in 4th floor. And so many stairs you have to Climb. If they give you room on 5th floor than add some more stairs too.You should have to be Physically fit to climb many stairs. Not recomends to old age people. Its a very small hostel with Limited space in lobby. You may try if not have other option.

The location is great as it’s near to financial district and 10 minutes walk from BART. But for check in, you need to climb up the stairs all the way up to 4th floor which is pretty tiring. However, the staff there is really nice and friendly. There’s activity for every night and free breakfast every morning. Extra Pros of this place is they even have a WhatsApp group which connect everyone and allow you to find a travel partner easier! Cons: Room hygiene really need to improve at some point :)

(Translated by Google) Simply wonderful experience. I met several Brazilians at the hostel, which made me feel even more welcome. Not only that, the hostel staff goes beyond imagining to make us feel good in their environment. I wish some 5 star hotels could learn from this team.

Much better than what I expected, the staff and the guests were very friendly. It was my first time at a hostel so at first I was kinda insecure but as soon as I spent five minutes in the lounge I knew it would be fine. Very chill place, great to make other solo traveling friends.

You have to visit this hostel. It is a small sweet warm great fantastic unforgettable family! It is a MUST in San Francisco. Located in the heart of the city. Very clean, with all what you need. You will not feel-neither one moment alone. My best experience ever! I love this place! I will definitely come back again! I could speak for hours... but I’ll just say THANK YOU... ❤️

Honestly so happy with this hostel. I’ve been travelling solo for a year and this was one of the best experiences I’ve had. Such friendly staff, great homely vibe. Taco Tuesday was very fun and the common room is the perfect size to meet people or just chill in the corner. Highly recommend!! (Lots of stairs though lol)

No privacy curtain, mattresses/pillows were thin, and bathrooms are not ensuite. There was no elevator and with my room on the fourth floor if was tiring to walk up and down every day. Only good thing is the location which was walking distance to Ferry Building and Chinatown.

I drive a camper through SanFrancisco And I was looking for a place to have a shower. They didn’t let me to pay only for a shower but offered to stay for 40$. It was good and i met cool people there. We became friends with one of event organizers and he invited me for a dinner, but the main administrator told it’s not possible as I was already checked out which is understandable. So they do a good service and quite strict with rules which I think you have to if you wirk in a big city.

I stayed here for over a week, one of my longest stays during my US trip. This Hostel is a gem. The staff and volunteers are super nice, helpful and friendly. There are Hostel organized activities every day of the week and they never get boring. The Hostel is cleaned daily and I've met a lot of other travelers there. As a solo traveling woman I welt safe, too. Also they have a real kitchen where you can cook, not only a microwave!! ITH has multiple Hostels in California and I enjoyed my stay in SF so much that I visited their locations in Santa Barbara and San Diego as well 😂

I enjoyed my week at this hostel. The staff was very welcoming. Easy to find and get situated. When I visit SF again I WILL be staying here!!! The dorms and bathrooms were clean. They let us leave our bags there before check in and after check out until we left. Very cute hostel and helpful staff.

This hostel has outstanding customer service. The staff genuinely enjoy working there and always go out of their way to help guests and share travel stories. This is a safe and welcoming place, and there are always great weekly activities like Taco Tuesday and the Rooftop BBQ.

Oh man, this is by far my best ever hostel experience! The best location, the best staff, the best comfort, the best roommates, they have it all. Apart from the usual things like cleanliness, amenities and all where the hostel checks all marks, there were a few things I was concerned about before booking - => I've 3 bags will it be comfortable or not. While I was staying only 2 - 5 beds out of 8 in my room were occupied, so there was plenty of room for me. Even when full it has huge lockers that can have your backpacks inside and you can keep your trolley bag besides your bed. => There are too many stairs. The quiet dorm is on the third floor (second floor for me as I am used to having the ground floor as floor zero back home) which wasn't too many stairs at all. There are also chairs placed on every floor in case you need a breather before heading up. => Being an introvert will I be able to talk to people and spend good time in the city since I know no one there. A great aspect of this hostel is that most of the staff are volunteers and they are world travelers themselves. Which brings about a totally different perspective and it makes it so easier to have conversations with them. => What do I do in the city The hostel folks have so many interesting activities planned for each day of the week, that you'll definitely find something to do. They have an answer to almost all your touristy queries. => I'm traveling in Thanksgiving week and I don't have friends here. What would I do? The hostel manager (who's a gem of a person himself) and the staff arranged an amazing Thanksgiving dinner for us all. Made me feel like I was sitting among friends that I've known for so long and made my stay memorable. If people at the hostel are reading this, thank you so much for all that you do! Hoping to run into you amazing folks someday somewhere soon!

Wonderful hostel! Extremely friendly and welcoming. Angelo was phenomenal as soon as we arrived, very kind and welcoming! There is free breakfast every morning and we were luck to be there on Tuesday for FREE Taco night. Great location, comfy beds and great value!

For a bit of background I was originally traveling to San Francisco with a couple of friends but unfortunately plans fell through. However, I decided to go solo and normally I would have stayed at a hotel but after some consideration I booked my first hostel. I made a great choice, I'm not uncomfortable being alone but this time around I'd thought it be better to be around people even if they were complete strangers. ITH Pacific Tradewinds Hostel definitely blew my expectations away, the host were very friendly and professional, they kept the living space clean aswell as making it a welcoming environment. If you're unsure about booking here rest assured ITH is the place to stay while visiting San Francisco.

One of the best hostels in San Francisco (doesn't have a lot of good ones to begin with). The rooms are tiny and the lack of a lift is a pain but the hostel culture makes up for it!

  • 5/5 Tamara Tilland l. 1 year ago on Google
Warm and welcoming staff in a nice and affordable hostel, the best of my USA trip ! Nice common rooms and activities (like bbq on the rooftop, so great!) allowed me to meet travelers and feel the community spirit, really a plus! Thank you !

  • 5/5 Orestgreece 2 years ago on Google
Pacific Tradewinds met all expectations I had before the trip. Located in the heart of SF, nearby North Beach bars/restaurants area, next to Chinatown and on reasonable distance of main SF attractions. Staff of the hostel were all super friendly, room was clean and breakfast included in the price is an extra add-on! I originally was planning to stay in the city for 2 days but because of cozy conditions in hostel I prolonged it for 2 more nights.

Amazing place, near all the most famous places in San Francisco, with great amenities, kitchen for cooking, very cleaned beds, amazing bathroom with hot shower for the cold days, community events at the hostel and the staff is super generous and prestative <3 I wish I could live there all year 🙏🏼

  • 5/5 Teun K. 1 year ago on Google
I really enjoyed my stay at the ITH Pacific Tradewinds Hostel in San Francisco. Apart from the clean rooms and beds, the experience as a solo traveler was great. Multiple suggested activities are offered by the hostel, such as the weekly rooftop barbeque! Also the staff is super friendly and will help you to the best of their abilities all the time. Kim-ly for instance was able to provide an early check-in for me which was super helpful! All in all a good hostel for solo travelers!

Have stayed here both times I've come up to SF for more than a day. Nothing but positive things to say. Great location, warm and helpful staff, feels like a home away from home. They always have things to do, easy check-in and check-out - met a lot of great people there, as well. Also, the free PB&Js are useful. :)

Very nice and full of life ! The staff was great, breakfast is basic but it's free and that is very kind! Rooms are ok, I found the mattress to be perfect but it can be thin and uncomfortable for some. Bathrooms always found clean so that's great as well. Thanks to everyone there !

A 5 star is in order....it's my own personal setback that was accomadated.... Make sure that if you may not have a cellular signal through a carrier ( like me) exercise a bit of patience at the entry. There is a sweet spot to connect to the wifi after booking and then able to utilize the keyless entry. A very memorable experience I will hold dear. I was there on International affairs. Walking distance to many many excellent spots to see. Hit Chinatown on foot and grab some whole foods and experiment in the kitchen. Very functional shared kitchen, clean bathrooms.

I've travelled a lot, and this is by far one of the best hostels I've ever been to. It's central without being in a rowdy area. It has a very homey feel, a nice common area for hanging about and chatting with other travellers. The staff is super friendly and helpful. It's always clean, and the beds are amongst the comfiest I've ever had at a hostel. Just mind the stairs, there's a lot of them.

I must say Nikole, Asad and Maya were beyond professionals and the best people ever. Nikole and Asad went one extra mile to help me with check in and anything I needed. They were extremely helpful. Nikole was on the top of everything. 10/10. The Hostel is full of dynamics to motivate gatherings. EXTREMELY SAFE area and with a great key system. It is highly effective and practical- specially if you are arriving late at night! ***** Pillows, bedding, towels and bathrooms are EXTREMELY WELL CLEANED - seriously this is the most important thing for me. Everything smells good, fresh and CLEAN! Fantastic team JOB!

My experience in this hostel was outstanding. The team running the place is so nice and makes the environment so friendly and welcoming. I recommend this spot to everyone visiting the city and wanting to experience the best lifestyle SF has to offer outside. There are so many great places you can easily commute to closeby, and is conveniently by a bus stop. They really care about your experience and made it known to me my entire time I won’t forget this type of service because it’s the kind of excellence you see only with great examples. 10/10

Fun little place to stay if you don't mind some exercise. The staff made the effort to know me on a first-name basis. You can buy some fresh produce and cook it in the kitchen to save some money and there's also eggs and toast for breakfast. Some nights they do roof cookouts as well, so it's a great place if you're on a budget.

I was very pleased with my stay at the Hostel. Conveniently located for easy access to Oracle Park and Chinatown. Both of the hosts were very accommodating to my particular situation. I booked a night for Friday and Sunday and needed accommodations for Saturday. They were able to accommodate my needs for Saturday night and that was incredible. I was provided helpful information, and felt very welcome. I would recommend this hostel to anyone looking to stay in San

I've stayed in a zillion hostels and this one is at the top for lovely vibes and a friendly atmosphere! Comfy, modern beds (no creaky bunks!) fresh towels, nicely stocked kitchen, free breakfast and a cute little common area to meet new friends and exchange travelling tales :) Great location too: really close to the metro and bus routes. And the area felt safe for a female solo traveller. Lovely Nicole on reception could not have been more helpful during my check-in and throughout my stay; she's an asset to this hostel and really cares about keeping guests happy and the hostel sparkling clean. Thank you Nicole!

I really enjoyed my stay there, this staff is very friendly and attentive. Rooms and common places are clean. The situation is super good, easy transportation nearby. This place is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The location of the hostel is perfect and it’s in a nice and safe place. The room/beds were great and the lockers were a perfect size. The hostel had activities which was a great way to meet people. The only downside was the flight of stairs but I knew that already before booking the hostel. I would definitely be back in the future.

Nice place, super friendly staff. Every night has a community event of sorts to meet other guests and have fun, when I arrived it was a barbecue night, including a delicious vegan option. Free breakfast every morning as well. Only thing you might watch out for is climbing the stairs to the 4th floor which might be difficult for some.

This hostel is very friendly and felt very comfortable for not only very young guests. Staff was amazingly friendly and approachable, they always organized activities in the evenings for everyone who wanted to participate. Carpets could be cleaner and the water in one shower didn't flow off well. Good location and great value during my stay in October 2023.

My boyfriend and I stayed here in October during covid and we had a great experience! The staff had it set up so there was a no-contact check-in (but also were readily available on the phone in case we had any issues). We were very pleased with how clean the hostel was and the staff had sanitizer available to clean up yourself. Definitely sad we couldn't enjoy it as an open hostel and meet friends but we still loved it!

I've been to several hostels in my life, but this one stood out to me for several reasons: cramped (but it is SF), co-ed (but it's at least not a surprise); and a rather active common area. International travelers and domestic travelers both stayed here. Toast, peanut butter, and jelly for breakfast included. Thin mattress but not terrible. Room temperature slightly warm but better warm than cold. Generally clean. The neighborhood is not sketchy at all. Close to chinatown, which is fun. I was personally shocked by the co-ed nature of the rooms and didn't like it once I experienced it especially in the cramped room (6 guys and 2 girls in one room) with basically no privacy, but it's definitely an economic choice for traveling on a shoestring. You cannot check in after midnight because there is no one at the reception between 12midnight and 8am. Book accordingly.

Great place to stay in san francisco - location is near to several commonly visited spots and close to some really cool, diverse neighborhoods. Always felt safe both outside of and at the hostel. One of the best hostels I've stayed at! Lovely people, good fun vibes, people going out on the town at least twice a week. The staff know a lot about the city and are happy to help, there's free ramen and PB&J, and there are books and board games for those who prefer to stay in. It's on the 4th floor, so you'll definitely get a workout from the stairs, but that just adds to the feeling of safety fostered here. Will definitely come again!

Location and safety: The hostel was located in a very convenient and safe neighbourhood. Rooms: The rooms were functional and clean as well as the common spaces. It also has a high ceiling that I liked and space to put your luggage. Common spaces and atmosphere: There was a common space in front of the reception where you could meet people and hang out. Very basic, but it worked. The staff were also very good at helping people to socialise and mingle. Kitchen had all the basics if someone wanted to cook. This is not a big fake and pretentious hostel that will be full of 20something party animals drinking and partying within the hostel. So it was perfect for me. It is pricey (compared to Europe), but for San Francisco standards it is of great value for money. I would definitely be staying there again and I do recommend you to stay at this hostel. You will not regret it.

Awesome community place with very memorable atmosphere and diverse stream of mostly young international travelers. Guest stay is usually limited to 2 weeks per person per year. It is possible to stay free of charge if you agree to work for the hostel - almost all of the on-site "hosts" are such a longer term guests.

(Translated by Google) It is on the third floor, but it can be hard if there is not an elevator and there are loads. Although the staff helped me, I was tired because I had to listen too. It was a very small hostel, but the floor I was in was a kitchen, reception, communal space and there were two rooms. It was hard for guests and staff to keep communicating in public space until 8: 30-00: 00 (reception opening hours) and to cook at 10pm and smell food to the room. The room is connected by one visit. I reserved a ladies' room and when I checked in, I was confused because I was guiding the mix room and I was able to speak again and be informed. I had a total of 3 nights, and the last night I woke up and a man was sleeping in another bed. I was sorry to hear that there was a problem in the other room because I was concerned about it. Location was good in Chinatown.

This hostel is wonderful, where do I even start! Reception is always super helpful and open until 12am!! They save things like shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and also keep extra packaged soap in case you forgot some for showers. Theres always fresh towels and a kitchen available as well as free ramen! They also let you store your food in the cabinets/fridge and provide name labels. Theres also dishes and pots/pans to cook with. The common area and rooms are cleaned each day (vaccumed/swept). Theres also a board with events and usually theres at least one event for each day of the week in case you need something to do. Staff is also super helpful and can give you recommendations, David suggested Bob's donuts which was awesome! Theres also a cool guestbook!! And in the common area theres a cabinet with gabes and books in case you decide to stay in. Each bunk had a storage area and you may rent/buy a lock (not expensive probably like $5) if you wish. In the common area the seat/bench area also has storage below the cushions so on the day you check out, even though you have to leave your room/check out at 10:30a, you can still use all the facilities/common area/common area storage until 12 that night. Seriously an incredible place to stay.

Great and straightforward hostel. Near Chinatown. The customer service is excellent, and there's a complimentary breakfast! If you are just passing by quickly like me through the city, check it out!

This was a great experience, the hostel is clean and well-organized. Staff is super friendly. Location is excellent too. I got the top bunk bed and can’t climb like I used to but if you request it ahead of time they can accommodate the lower bed. They also offer activities which is fun. They had a fondue dinner during my stay and it was lovely. The pb&j sandwiches are for real and is brilliant!

Pacific Tradewinds is the best and safest little nest you can wish for in such a metropole as San Francisco. Clean, reliable, friendly and helpfull staff, charming details such as free sockwash and peanutbutter jelly sandwiches. This hostel definitely gives a good example of how to make our world a better place.

Great location and staff. Would come back to stay. Only cons were small shower stream (good for conserving that limited Cali water) and thin mattresses on beds.

Really like the place. The keepers are very friendly and accommodating. You just need to be quiet when you return to your sleeping quarter because people might already be asleep.

An amazing family feel hostel. The staff are all brilliant and make for a warm and welcoming stay. Complimentary noodles, sandwiches, tea and coffee. Good pressure / temperature showers which are cleaned daily. Wicked location too - near Chinatown which has some great eateries and a 20 minute walk to the sea. Thanks for having me guys!

(Translated by Google) The "cheap" it is does not compensate for how shabby it is. As soon as you arrive, you have to climb 3 floors up some very narrow stairs to reach the reception ... so try not to carry heavy luggage. The staff ... there was a nice guy, but the rest were quite unpleasant. The rooms on the top floor are unbearable because they are next to the living room-kitchen where people are messing up late into the night. It's not especially clean and smells curry all over the building. I do not recommend it.

This is my third time in San Francisco and my third time at Pacific Tradewinds. A very very very very clean hostel, small with a big soul. The people is extremely kind and the atmosphere is amazing. Definitivamente regreso el próximo año.

Great Hostel! All the staff was super helpful and great to meet, complimentary pb&j won me over instantly, and clean beds and showers right between the financial district and chinatown. Couldn't have asked for a better stay.

I traveled from Florida to San Francisco for 2 days! I really appreciate the service provided by the hostel! The hosts were very helpful! I even checked in after 2AM, so I didn't have any trouble! Rooms, beds, restrooms and showers are very clean and no smell! Thank you for hosting me!
