The rooms here are small, but very clean and have that Edwardian era charm. If you're staying by yourself, the King George is perfect and affordable. The cons are that housekeeping will start knocking on your door asking when you intend to leave 2hrs before checkout and that the only guy they have working the front desk is a new hire. Poor guy is doing his absolute best though!

I was so happy we found this gem. It was a great place in the city. So many things to do around the hotel within steps, plus they have a bar in the lobby which was top notch. Pool table, shuffle board and darts and assorted board games. Yes it is a old hotel. But this is what you get when you stay in San Francisco. The room was cozy and it had a huge closet with a safe. And it was spotless. My only regret was we found this on our last night in the city.

My stay in this hotel was simply amazing. Cozy room and very clean. The team was very friendly and as an extra bonus, they put a birthday letter in the desk with some chocolates for me. Really loved this! I would go back to this hotel thousands of times, as it is also very well located. Good to mention that you have free coffee during the morning.

One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at and at a great price too. Front desk staff is FANTASTIC. I’ve had a bunch of issues and not only have they been great at helping, they’ve been kind and patient. On top of everything, the room is comfortable, clean, and so cute, comfiest bed I’ve ever come across. Great location too!!

Small hotel on Mason St. Near Union Square. Very comfortable and clean. Reasonable! Wonderful staff, featuring Vivian on the reception desk who went out of her way to make sure we were happy and comfortable. It is always a great pleasure to work with hotel staff who enjoy their jobs and are dedicated to making the guests comfortable.

This is a remodeled old hotel with lots of character. The rooms are pretty small, but served me well for my short stay. It's located in an premium area; walking distance to Union Square and all the decadent high-end designer boutiques, near the huge SF mall, plenty of restaurants, and the Cable Cars. The staff was extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I would definitely stay here again.

This is a boutique hotel located in San Francisco’s Union Square area, and is quite convenient to many tourist and business locations. The staff is polite and welcoming. The rooms are…well, small is somewhat generous — but they are clean and nicely lit. As someone who doesn’t normally use the hotel room on business trips for any purpose other than sleeping and showering, it’s acceptable. As a solo traveller this time, the King George was a good selection, but if you’re travelling as a family the room is going to be an extremely tight fit.

Overall the only good thing I have to say is the bed was very comfortable and the room was cozy. The room was also very small and lacked amenities for the price. Additionally, the single pane windows (it is a very old building) did not keep any of the noise out. While others have had pleasant encounters with the staff, I did not. If they were not outright rude, they were dismissive. The wifi was so spotty in my room, I had to take my 3hrs of back-to-back works calls in a very noisy lobby. I would not stay here again.

My review of five stars is based on our experience with the hotel staff and our experience overall. The building is heritage and we knew that going into this so, I knew what to expect. To some, 5 stars is about how fancy, new, stylish and posh the space is. This hotel has kept the historic value and had some upgrades. It wouldn’t be considered 5 stars to some, but for us it definitely was. I took my husband here for his surprise birthday. Management and staff went the extra mile and set up the balloons and banner I pre-ordered. Our chosen room was out of order, so management upgraded us to the bigger suite. They also left a surprise gift for his birthday! Outstanding service. We took advantage of the pool table and bar service one night and our bartender was awesome. Desk staff really helped up plan our exploration of the city, giving us detailed options of routes and transit. I enjoyed the location in Union Square due to the proximity of transportation. The full on British decor in the lobby was fabulous. My husband loves his British roots and was so happy with the theme. I love the authenticity of the rooms, and the fact that the hotel still bears Its' original fixtures etc. (aside from the remodelled lobby). We loved all of the oddities and quirks. So, if you are a traveller who can truly appreciate and admire an older building, you will love it. I do wish they they had a few more amenities, but they are restricted to the buildings original design. I would definitely stay here again, as I love original heritage buildings, the staff really make it a great stay as well. Coffee/Tea in the lobby in the morning with plenty of supplies. Thank you very much for such a great stay guys!

This hotel was a great find. The price was really good compared to the other hotels in the area. The hotel is a little older but it is very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Its a great location, very close to the train that comes from the San Francisco Airport and it is central to several bus, cable car, tram, and subway lines so if you want to get around via public transit, its the perfect location. The area feels pretty safe, even later at night (even with Civic Center close by). The downstairs lobby is warm and cozy which is great in the winter. The front desk staff was always very helpful. We left our luggage at the hotel for several hours the day we checked out since we had an evening flight and spent a little while relaxing in the lobby before going to the airport. We loved SF and we will definitely go back, and when we do, we will definitely stay here.

My husband and I had a WONDERFUL stay at King George Hotel. While we stayed in a Superior Queen room- we did not have AC as listed when booking- but we were very comfortable with the ceiling fan and opening the window. Our room faced the busy street, and there was street noise at night (but this is out of the hotels control) and honestly did not bother us often. The bed was very comfortable, every staff member we interacted with was very nice and accommodating. The hotel is kept very clean and has a wonderful ambiance. If I ever have to return to San Fran I would absolutely stay here again.

This was our second time staying here for a 4-night visit, and we were once again quite happy with our choice. For travelers who want a friendly, clean hotel in a central location, you can't beat this place or their prices. Visitors should be aware that as an urban hotel, the rooms are quite small -- we are from NYC, so this was neither a surprise nor an inconvenience to us. Beds are super-comfy, and customers can request to have a mini-fridge put in their room at no extra charge. We especially loved the lobby, which offers free coffee and tea in the mornings, a filtered water station, microwaves for guest use, and a cozy bar/games area to relax in at night -- the bartender Jay deserves a raise for how hard he worked to make sure we were all comfortable and had everything we needed. All of the staff we encountered were exceedingly polite and kind.

We stayed here for 2 nights, and it was great. The staff is nice, especially Sir Jay, who accommodated us very well. We love the location as it is within walking distance of everything, especially the hop-on-hop-off bus stops that we used. It's also very walkable to Union Square and other retail shops that we love. We will definitely stay here again. The room is a bit small but it’s okay for the price and location. The price is cheap for the location and is worth the price

My wife and I recently stayed at this hotel and regretted it as soon as we opened the door to our room. We were greeted with a strong musty/moldy smell, stains on the carpet and felt claustrophobic due to how tiny it was. The bathroom was disgusting, the shower didn't drain well, and you had to stand in a certain way to close the door. They have 1 elevator, which is slow and always crowded. Good luck being able to use it if you're on a middle floor with luggage. We ended up having to walk down their steep flight of stairs (not very safe) because we were tired of waiting. It's very misleading that their website mentions terms such as "modern, boutique, vibrant, contemporary etc." because I'd describe it as the complete opposite. This hotel is the definition of a very low budget hotel which needs a huge facelift. The best part of our stay was the checkout, knowing that we don't have to spend another night here. I do not recommend this hotel.

Location is perfect for the price point. Room, bed, toilet is a little small but still acceptable. No air conditioning and there's only fan. Can be quite stuffy in the afternoon. I had great experience with the most of the staff. Only the female staff working midnight shift during check in wasn't friendly. I took the risk and parked at the roadside, just infront of the hotel. No issue at all, of cos I did removed all valuables and nothing in sight inside the car. Parking garage across the street cost $38 for overnight and $43 for in and out per day.

Decent place, I'd stay here again. Decent location walking distance to lots of areas. Good service, the staff was always friendly and helpful. My only complaint is that the windows are thin and don't seal well and so don't keep the noise out. Nevertheless, I slept very well each night of my 5 night stay. I was in SF for a conference and the King George provided a much more affordable option than the conference hotel a few blocks away.

I would like to say that this was a very pleasant stay. The amenities are not what you would get from a 5 star hotel, but then again I was not looking for that. I wanted a well located, clean, well staffed hotel. The staff was amazing, true there was no air conditioning in our room, but it's San Francisco and the night time temperature was amazing. There were a little issues that I had, but that was mainly due to the size of the room and bathroom. However we really did not spend that much time there. If you are looking for a well located hotel, with a great staff that is a little more historic. This is the place for you.

Don't listen to the bad reviews, this place is solid for the price, and most importantly, clean. Especially if solo or just in town to catch a Giants game or concert for a quick night. Fancy, luxury vacation spot? Probably not. But it doesn't bill itself that way. It's old...like SF's charm. It can be a little noisy--it's a city. But I had a solid, dependable experience and they even watched my bag as I ran from the BART and then ran to the Giants game. Ariel adds great support to the front desk as well.

We stayed here for 5 nights and just got back. Id highly recommend this hotel. The location is perfect and the service is second to none. Huge shout out to Stephanie who made my birthday so special by being in contact with my mother (whose in the UK) and creating a surprise for when I checked into the room. Given the location, you will want to bring ear plugs as night time can get very noisy. The rooms are a little dated but clean. Location is fantastic and I felt safe the whole time. There is a safe in the room to keep things locked up. In the morning they put out coffee in reception and there are also microwaves and water bottle refilling station. I've never experienced such incredible service - every single person was a delight and fulfilled our needs. Thank you so much to the King George hotel for giving us the best stay in San Francisco. I'd highly recommend staying here!

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Jeremy at the front desk is a treasure. She provided amazing hospitality and made us feel welcomed. The hotel is very clean - seems like there was always cleaning going on. The hotel is historic so the rooms are small, but they have everything you need and a real comfy bed. I would gladly stay here again.

This hotel is great for a one night stay, but no more than that. The front desk is AMAZING. They were super friendly and helpful. The hotel has a nice lobby, but the rooms are extremely small(New York style) and bathrooms are very, very small, old and a tad dirty. They are trying, it’s just an old hotel with lots of paint coverups and stains. The noise levels are extremely high due to the old building and thin walls, you can hear everything in the hallways, next-door, the streets, and floors above. The hotel area was a little sketchy and right next to the avoid areas of SF.

Cute place! Very comfortable bed, quiet, and charming. Great location downtown. Building is a bit old and I had a view of a cement wall out my window, parking in the garage across the street is pretty steep as well (would be nice if there was some hotel special) but overall it was a perfect place for my stay downtown! Friendly staff. Absolutely would return
