The staff was great and the hotel, while a bit threadbare, was absolutely fine for the money/location. The bed, however, was an act of violence. It was essentially a mayan stone sacrifice table that was rejected for lacking blood grooves and being far too wiggly to hit a jugular reliably. White sheets and pretty level though! Haha. But seriously, worst night of sleep I’ve ever had, and that’s the primary object of a hotel room.

Considering the price and location, it's a good hotel. I stayed in a room with shared bathrooms. These rooms only face the courtyard which is not an open space as it has an enclosed roof. This means there is no fresh airflow, even with your window open. However there is a fan and an option to request a portable fan from the front desk - which was sufficient for comfort during my stay (in October). The rooms with Private bathrooms face the street which means you get fresh air with the window open - however also street noise from the somewhat busy road. The shared bathroom facilities were always fresh, clean and available. My towels were replaced daily my room was cleaned once half way through my stay. There is no in-room safe, however I had no security issues. I kept my passport and cash tucked away in my luggage and nothing went missing. I wouldn't leave it lying around though for common sense reasons. If you're on a budget, I'd highly reccomend this place. Very helpful check in staff too.

Overall, had a great stay. Will absolutely stay at Casa Loma Hotel again during future visits to SF. Everything was clean and orderly, staff was helpful, the room was affordable and secure. Top floor facing east had a great view. Bed was comfortable, clean, and bug-free. Plenty to do in the neighborhood and convenient access to at least 4 bus lines (probably more though, but I only needed 4 of them to get around). We were able to get there fron the SFO airport by taking the BART train from the to 16th St Mission station (fare was around $10) and then taking the 22 bus for another $2.50. I don't necessarily recommend taking all your luggage on the bus because it's cumbersome, but it certainly is possible. Consider a Lyft from 16th St Mission for convenience if you've got the spare funds.

Loved the stay when we were here in San Fran. The customer service was friendly and welcoming, and the hotel was cozy. Some may say small, but I'd like to think cozy. It was a central location to a lot of restaurants within walking distance and other activities. The only issue we had with our room would be that the faucet in the bathroom sink didn't have alot of water coming out of it but aside from that I loved it and will definitely be back here the next time we are in San Fran.

Nice, small, cozy, and clean room with an updated private bathroom with shower stall, which I personally appreciate! Having a fridge, microwave, and hair dryer in the rooms makes for a nice perk in an otherwise basic room. Very affordable and convenient to all areas, including the Opera House and the Symphony. Alamo Square is just a couple blocks away, and the Safeway supermarket is also within walking distance. Would definitely come back!

Location: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Centre, 5-10 min to restaurant and cafe, very confident Cleanness: ⭐️ budget choice standard, be ok with seeing the side of the bed is full of dusty, strange smells, and dirty carpet Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ the owner is pretty good! Two guys I encountered are not so nice. one of them refuse to give me a heater when I complain I was so cold and had cold. He even lie to me there is mo heater. Wifi ⭐️ the shot story you can work from the room wifi keep disconnect. TV with Netflix only worked 1 day during my 7 days stay. Alert: this hotel is at intersection, it is VERY noise, you hear everything on the street and the cars are very loud. You do also hear neighbour - strongly suggest ear plugs

We were really disappointed by this place even though the location was really convenient. Since day 1 of our stay, we hadn't hot water in the shower - and it's pretty cold in San Francisco especially with the poor isolation in the room allowing all sounds and outside air to bring into. We decided to politely complain the day after at the front desk, nothing was quite done except "let it flow, 'll come to see", but he didn't come until I came complaining again the day after. They ended up calling plumbers on the last day of our trip (day 4 and 1/5) meaning that we didn't have hot water until the last day. Plus, during the days they "tried" to fix the water, we had to wait inside the room all morning to test if that worked - so basically 2 lost mornings during our vacation. I've requested a partial reimbursement, at least one that downgrades our room into the room with a shared bathroom as ours was the queen one, and still hasn't had any answer.

Great hotel. It has the basic essentials you need. We spent most of the time out and about so we didn’t need a fully furnished room or anything. We chose the room with a queen bed + bathroom. Nice fixtures, small microwave and fridge. The service was great and staff were very friendly. We will definitely stay here again!

Central location in a decent neighborhood. Adequate rooms, though we hated the sheets, which were rough and the beds were hard. It has that old world charm, however. No elevator for disabled people and no ice for over heated ones. There was a fridge and a microwave in the room as well as a private bathroom. Not all rooms have that. The check in manager was very kind, welcoming and warm. Excellent coffee. I would stay there again.

Loud loud rooms. Very creaky upstairs floors so you can hear whenever anyone is near to your room in the floor above you. Also, the room’s single pane window opens into a common area and you can hear multiple conversations going on from various rooms even when the room’s window is closed. Lastly, there are no sinks connected to the bathrooms (only in the bedrooms) so everyone has to walk around and touch communal things (like doorknobs) with unwashed hands. Kind staff and nice location are the positives, but unless you’re an incredibly sound sleeper and don’t mind fairly shabby and unsanitary set-up, then this place likely isn’t for you.

Worth the price. Service was kind and attentive. Having a coffee bar was a nice perk. We felt safe staying here and amenities were clean. Only con is that it does get uncomfortably warm in the room. Overall location was close to public transit as well.

I can't speak highly enough of this place. The staff are excellent and there for their customers at all hours. It is nothing fancy at all, but I am not a fancy guy. You walk the steps and accept the TV reception is average and the shower might take a minute to get hot. I stayed in a room with a private bathroom. It was clean and well presented that bar fridge and the microwave were is great condition. I had a great stay. If they charged more there would be more expectations from me. The product is right at the price-point. San Francisco could do with more well run, safe, hotels at this end of the Market. It is on the 22 Muni Bus line, you can basically go door to too to the Chase Centre (Via the Mission District) or the Marina District and the bay shore. I will be back.

This place is great i would definitely recommend this hotel... Very nice bed and bathrooms! The staff is super nice, The fridge and microwave was nice to have too as most hotels in this price range don't have them. Very nice location and easy to get to most places on foot!

Nice hotel, very well located. It did not have parking, which in SF is a pain in the neck. The bathrooms are outside the rooms (we did not notice that before booking), which is also a pain in the neck. The place was very clean. Attention is OK.

I would like to thank all Casa Loma Hotel staff for their professionalism and for making my stay so enjoyable. It is located in a safe and convenient location, and the room was clean and comfy. Despite the fact that it was my first time in the Bay area and I had concerns about traveling alone, the staff helped me throughout so that I felt at home. When I return to San Francisco, I look forward to staying at Casa Loma again ;)!

This is my go to place when I come to San Francisco, it’s a great location and they have a variety of rooms to meet your needs. Clean modern rooms in a cute refurbish old building, friendly helpful staff, and eco-conscious soaps. It’s always a pleasure staying here!

This was a great place to stay for the weekend! The location is fantastic and the room was comfortable and had what we needed for the most part. The staff were friendly and efficient. We were in a room with a private bathroom and it was tiny but had a refrigerator and microwave that were handy. The bathroom seemed fairly newly renovated which was nice and the coffee machine in the lobby was great in the morning!

Clean and simple. We spent a week here and have zero negative to say. Both ladies at the front counter were super helpful in getting around and learning the bus system. The physical location of this place is absolutely amazing- bus stops all around and it’s very central yo pretty much everything you’d want to see.

I really liked this hotel! I only stayed one night, but for the price and location it's definitely worth checking out if you need a place to stay for a night or two. Room was super clean, and so were the shared bathrooms. Only complaint is no AC so it's a little warm in the room. But everything else was great! Will definitely be staying here again when I'm in the area. :)

It feels more like a private room in a hostel since the bathroom is shared. Our room was fine just too hot and it didn’t have ac nor air coming from outside as the window was facing an inside patio. The staff was amazing, you have coffee in the morning and a fridge and microwave in the room. The location is also good !

We had a 2 night stay a Casa Loma. We stayed in the private queen room with private bathroom. It was small a room but the perfect space for 2 people. We were in the room just to sleep so it wasn't big. In terms of location it's in a good neighborhood. We used public transportation to get around and the staff helped guide us. Would stay again.

Casa Loma is a perfect hotel for its price and location. It’s completely no-frills—the queen bed took up almost the whole room, there’s no climate control, there’s no elevator, and the only amenity is free coffee in the unassuming lobby. That said, the rooms (and bathrooms) are clean and modern, the staff is kind and helpful, and the location felt safe and accessible via walking or bus to a number of highlights. Would absolutely recommend for a quick, affordable stopover in SF!

Stunning location, perfectly adequate amenities. An affordable gem in otherwise expensive city. It’s always difficult navigating value for money and quality, Casa Loma helped by dropping the unnecessary and focussed on cleanliness and affordability. The only downside was my room was on the inside, ask for street facing so you can get some airflow as the fan in the room couldn’t cut through the heat. I was on a different schedule and needed to rest during the day so this may not be an issue for most but the room was still warm in the evening. Other than that the toilets and showers were always clean and the room had everything you could ask for. I’d definitely return here again. Location wise you really couldn’t ask for better as a tourist McLain to multiple bus routes taking you into or out of the city and walking distance to the painted ladies. Local bar scene is diverse and lively.

Economical, decent location, you get what you pay for, and that’s the bare minimum. The rooms are very small, no elevator, no AC. No parking on site, the closest lot is 6 blocks away. The lot charges $25 dollars a day for parking. The owner/ staff was very friendly. Overall it was just okay… would I stay here again? Probably not.

Clean, good coffee, cheap, would be cool to have a private bathroom but I didn’t have an issue with it since they clearly keep the communal ones tidy and clean and I also didn’t pay for the private restroom option. But the true reason I’m leaving 5 star is because of the good service offered by front desk, offering for an earlier check that they could offer and to hold our bags for a few hours after check out so we didn’t have to lug our stuff around. I didn’t even ask, they just offered.

Nice small hotel for a budget. Decent rooms with shared nice bathrooms. The bed I had wasnt too comfortable but thats all. Good walking distance to and from Bart and small markets nearby.

clean room, modest setting, convenient location to different parts of San Francisco. That said hotel is on the corner of two streets. I was unfortunately placed on the extremely busy street side. The road noise at night is significant! You need earplugs. For that only reason, I would not come back there. By the way, the website room pictures are not adequate and far from reality.

Do first time I experienced this but room didn’t have AC and no fan and it was in the middle of the building. There was a window that opened into a court yard but the top was covered so no circulation. I had to open the room door and open the windows on the floor just to get air moving. Bathroom also is seperate from rooms and so is shower. Tv, bed and linens were clean and okay though. Front desk was also nice just disappointed with the lack of air and no elevators which seems typical for someone who considers themselves a hotel instead of a hostel.

Clean and simple. Ceiling fan and light didn’t work properly. Lots of fittings hanging off the wall. The shower had the lowest water flow rate ever. It took over 5 mins to warm up and then was hardly a dribble. Very few people were staying there which was good but it was still noisy. It reminded me of staying at hotels in my 20s

  • 2/5 Ian B. 1 year ago on Google
The room was far too small and the beds were incredibly uncomfortable, and the sheets were rough. However it did have a a nice bathroom and it's clean. The toilet was way too close to the sink though. And the shower door was rather difficult to open and close. Additionally it took the water a good 5 minutes to get hot. However the furnishing was nice everything had soft close hinges.
