My mom has been in the UCSF Hospital and I’ve been staying here at the Stanyan. I am so grateful for the treatment that I’ve received during such a difficult time. Everyone from the housecleaner who comes every morning (which is hard to come by these days in most hotels) to the front desk handing me free water bottles constantly. Even the wine and snack hour has saved me a couple of times when I’ve been too emotionally drained to go out. The location is walking distance to lots of restaurants and of course golden gate park. There is a paid parking lot conveniently located across the street. I am very thankful to have a safe place to call home for the week.

If you enjoy a room that makes it feel like you’re an old timey western gold miner - then this is perfect for you! No working TV in the room! No A/C either! You can also see a crack heads perineum if you head just 2 blocks east. Besides that - it is a decent hotel - just an absolute joke they don’t have working televisions in the room and the front desk guy says “I don’t know I guess they must be down” - absolute joke. Would not stay again.

This hotel’s location is amazing, it’s very charming and rooms are cute (but small), they’re kept clean and tidy. Now, the front desk staff is the least welcoming/helping I’ve ever encountered, no hellos, no “how was your trip?” or “have a safe flight, how was your stay with us?” NOTHING! Also, it is very noisy, you can hear people’s conversations through the window, the doors of other rooms and the floor cracking and people walking. Breakfast is very basic, a good excuse to go eat out in the morning and enjoy the city. So in conclusion we won’t be staying here again.

Stayed here while my husband had major surgery at UCSF. For that, the location was great. The room was fine, the TV was small though. The breakfast in the morning was nice and the staff friendly.

Had a nice stay at this hotel recently. It's in a really great location just off of Golden Gate park. The staff was all very friendly and accommodating. The room amenities could use a little improvement, I think. There is just a single radiator for climate control so it's tricky to get the temperature right. It was freezing when we got into the room and then sweltering when we returned from dinner just a few hours later. They do have a complimentary breakfast in the lobby but not coffee maker in the room itself or fridge. There is a nice wine hour each night but keep in mind the wine is the $3 wine from the Whole Foods two blocks away.

I love the Stanyan. It is so tastefully decorated, well taken care of & welcoming. Ideally located on the boarder of the Height Ashbury & Cole Valley Neighborhoods you will be pressed to find other accommodations within 15 blocks in any direction, but the Stanyan will impress even the most seasoned traveler. I have stayed here 6 times, and soon to make it 7. My favorite hotel in the City!

My husband and I had a lovely experience staying at this hotel. The exterior is so beautiful, we were really excited to be here. Right away the staff was so welcoming and friendly. We felt right at home. They were so eager to meet all of our needs. And really helpful answering any of my questions. Our room was very clean and even smelled nice! I was really impressed with all the linens. The sheets were so soft, and my pillow was just perfect. I slept so soundly. Breakfast was really good, I had some of their fresh crepes and wasn’t disappointed. What an excellent way to start the day! The hotel is in a really good location. The lady at the front desk had some great recommendations for things we could do nearby. I was so happy to find so much we could just walk to without too much difficulty. The history behind the hotel is quite interesting. We got some more details from the staff there, and I was really impressed with their knowledge. We’ll definitely be coming back to this hotel, it might be our home away from home whenever we come to San Francisco. All around an excellent time!

Wow! This hidden gem of a place was perfect for our stay! The rooms were quiet, clean, and welcoming. Front desk was knowledgeable and helpful with all my questions. There's no valet parking, but there's a lot just across the street to the left that's very reasonably affordable for this area. We didn't partake in the free breakfast and instead decided to walk around and see what was in the area. If you appreciate well made coffee and an eclectic SF experience, I recommend Cantata Coffee Company on Haight which is another hidden gem.

Myself and my Nephew had to make a medical emergency visit to S.F. and stayed here at S.P.H. and while I did have a bad experience with one young lady at the front desk, Tony at the front desk made up for this 100x's. Tony went over and beyond in helping us extend our stay and allowing us to keep from changing rooms. I wanted to make sure Tony is recognized as an outstanding service and support and provided outstanding customer service! I would recommend this hotel.

Room is drafty and took a long time to warm up. It’s heated ny an outdated heater vent at the bottom of the wall.

Great location and a fine stay, but we had some issues with this stay. Pros: Great location, super quiet. They ended up giving us a huge apartment-like room for 4 guests. Cozy breakfast area and breakfast was provided. Cons: Our apartment-like room was super drafty and a little bit creepy. It looked like an older apartment that was converted into a hotel room. To access it, we had to go into their courtyard to get to the room, which had a mysteriously dark hallway. The street noise was fine even though the other side of the room was facing the street. The biggest complaint here is that a few days after the booking, I noticed a $200 charge. I called in to ask about the additional charge and I was told by a non-manager it was a damage fee. I asked for more details and they let me know it looked like damage to a chandelier and the roll-away bed--but to confirm they would have to connect me to the manager. The manager was out for the weekend, so I tried again the following week. After many calls to the front desk over multiple days, the manager was always busy or did not return my call or email. I could not successfully talk to the manager about this alleged damage, which I know we did not commit because we're respectful, well-traveled guests. In order to get more details on the damage or to settle on a resolution, I had to speak with the manager but alas, he was nowhere to be found. I disputed this on my CC -- beware!

It was a good experience overall. The continental breakfast in the morning was good, although the bed was a touch noisy when you moved around. The motel had no parking, although there was a paid parking lot across the street. A good option is the pizza shop on Haight and Ashbury. Location seemed good, and there were many homes of residence close by. Good prices and a helpful front desk were both present.

If you can tolerate the street noise, this is nice. It is so noisy from outside traffic. The single window panel does not do much for noise. I told the front desk. He gave me ear plugs. I am sure I am not the only guest to complain.

Super cute, historic hotel. Clean rooms, very comfortable bedding, super convenient!

Wow! I gotta tell you I love this hotel! I don’t know what it is! The staff and manager are super friendly! The hotel is very convenient to UCSF and right on the park! They have an amazing breakfast and great coffee and tea. Oh they have free wine at 5pm in the coffee bar Space and right they were playing jazz music. The hotel building is from the late 1800s and has a rich and old history. The rooms are eclectic and unique. The only downside is no AC in the rooms but for all the perks it evens out!

Enjoyable experience, morning continental breakfast was legit, bed was a little noisy when moving around, but hotel was cute, near plenty of food, coffee places. A pay for parking lot was across the street, the hotel has no parking. Try the pizza place on Haight and Ashbury st. Location seemed decent, nearby was many residential houses. Prices were decent, front desk was very helpful.

Incredible stay. This hotel is a class-act— very very kind staff, meticulously kept rooms, and an absolutely charming ambiance. Big plus is that it’s in a very safe neighborhood. Will be staying here every time I’m back in San Francisco.

Clean, comfortable accommodations, complimentary breakfast and evening wine. Convenient to park in the lot across the street. Lots of restaurants nearby and the beautiful Golden Gate Park to walk around! A nice piece of history and lovely place to stay.

Great hotel all around. The rooms were very well equipped, clean, and had a great deal of charm.

It is a wonderful historic building, with nicely renovated and clean, spacious rooms including a very comfortable bed. Visiting the California Academy of Sciences, the location is ideal being directly at Golden Gate Park. No negatives.

The floors are pretty dirty. Carpets need cleaning and or replacing. Staff couldn't provide one extra towel. No parking for guests. Nice location but that's about it

Room was cute but small and staff was friendly. However, the TV had a LOUD pitchy sound consistently, making it not usable. The wifi was down for the first half of my stay and when it was back "up", it still didn't work. Limited parking near hotel and nothing special
