I had a great hotel stay here. This hotel is right near Union square so there is much to do, many different options for dining and lounges as well as clubs. The room was on the smaller side but doable for 2 people. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. This hotel was very clean, the beds are on the firmer side. There is no parking for this hotel so I would not recommend driving in this city unless you absolutely have to. Keep in mind that there is quite a bit of homeless people in this area. Make sure you lock your car up do not leave things in your car as there is a ton a vandalism (This is not a dig on the hotel).

The staff here at Hotel Spero are very welcoming and accommodating. Everyone greets you with a smile. The architecture of the hotel is beautiful and the lobby is a beautiful gathering space. Our room was lovely, comfortable and very clean. I highly recommend choosing to stay here given the proximity to activities, restaurants and bars. A highlight for me was Jasper’s Corner Tap and Kitchen which was connected to the hotel. A VERY comfortable and enjoyable stay here.

A great Hotel Experience. I just came in and out for one night but I give the entire experience 5 Stars. The lobby was nice and the rooms were well designed. I appreciated the finishes in the bathrooms too. Very friendly staff. Kathryn at check in and Rex at check out were genuinely happy, friendly and caring. And the morning coffee was set early and I was able to have a cup to go for my ride to the Airport. I will definitely come back soon. Thank you for getting it right.

Lovely clean rooms, complimentary coffee and tea facilities on a morning which is a nice touch (and a money saver). Came back every day to fresh towels and a made bed which was appreciated. Our only reservation was that it was located not too far from Tenderloin which is notoriously rough, especially after dark. Like all hotels now, would have been great to have an updated smart tv in the room to sign into Netflix or for TV casting, That being said, had a great stay! Thank you!

This is a luxury hotel in less than luxury area. It is a beautiful hotel and you can tell they take care of it. The area it is in however has a lot of homeless near it, the streets are dirty, and it can be loud outside. If you are only taking Ubers and are going directly in an out of the hotel it's probably safe enough. If you are parking however (and go to one of the better reviewed parking lots) you may not feel safe as you will be walking by people living in tents and on the street. I really hope San Francisco can help these people as it is sad. The hotel charges a resort fee but I'm not sure why as it does not have resort amenities (maybe it's a California thing?). It is not that far from the piers. We were surprised how many signs in San Francisco tell you not to leave your valuables in your car or that you are in a smash and grab area so be careful if you do drive and plan accordingly.

A nice ‘downtown’ hotel and we enjoyed our stay here. We had a lovely corner room, with city views - and I loved looking out of the windows! The room was attractive and modern and had plenty of storage space - most of it was on shelves within cupboards rather than hanging (which I’m not used to) but this actually made it easier for unpacking and repacking! The shower room was really nice, very spacious. The whole room had a lovely feel. Location-wise, we were well placed for tourist attractions and for public transport.. however you should not stray too far down the hill as the tenderloin district/true downtown areas (even just the edges of them) can be pretty scary!!! Make sure you pick up the hotel’s map at check in and steer clear of the places marked with great big crosses!!!! We ate at Jaspers on the first night (good American fare such as steaks and burgers) and we had breakfast there on our last morning (again, big, tasty American breakfasts - my French toast was particularly good!)

Fabulous find! The staff were great fun and very helpful. The room itself was very nice, modern but not boring. They were happy to keep luggage and give me any area recommendations

After reading that this hotel was bordering the Tenderloin, I was really nervous, but as long as you're aware of your surroundings (which you should be in a big city anyway!) it's absolutely fine to stay here and a great price. I felt perfectly safe and I'm a HUGE wuss. The rooms were really quiet and clean, beds were super comfortable but a bit on the small side. I'd happily stay at Hotel Spero again.

Lovely, clean, modern hotel with beautiful historic charm. It is centrally located only 2 blocks from the historic cable car terminal and a short walk to upscale shopping at Union Square. This hotel is on the edge of the Tenderloin district and although we felt safe overall, there were some folks in the area who could easily make you feel uneasy. The hotel took guest safety and security seriously and that was appreciated. The hotel staff were all polite, professional and helpful. The room was clean, modern and well-cared for. Although some may say they're small, we were more than comfortable. Would certainly consider staying here again when visiting San Francisco.

Gorgeous uniquely historic main lobby with high ceilings decorated with wood carvings from the original builder over 100 years ago. Very well maintained. We checked in just before midnight and the front desk agent Johann was energetic, polite, welcoming and very knowledgeable wanting to share all sorts of tips for sightseeing while we’re in San Fran. We stayed in suite 1514 on the 15th floor and it was very large with a living room, large bedroom and bathroom. Everything is so beautifully decorated and you can tell no expense was spared with the furnishings. Bed and pillows very comfortable with in-room temp controls and extra blankets. Very nice start to our trip! Would definitely come back.

Beautiful, clean and quaint. The price was right too. Friendly staff. Beautiful lobby. Close to everything downtown in SF. I felt completely safe here and this will be my hotel of choice the next time I visit San Francisco.

The only reason why I’m giving this hotel 3 stars is because we ran out of hot water on our last night and morning during the conclusion of our stay here. Also this area is swarmed by homeless people, rummaging the street trash bins for leftover food. The ambulance sirens are also non stop, presumably tending to the overdosing friendly local street dwellers. The hotel obviously doesn’t have much control over this and do employ a 24 hour security guard. Otherwise, the staff here are very friendly and accommodating. We also had a very large one bedroom with king size bed, tub and an almost 360 view of the city. A nice vibe and refuge once you’re off the streets.

Great sized bathroom for a Union Square hotel, the room I had was renovated nicely and had a 'homey' feeling to it. Overall one of my better stays in Union Square. They also provide a reusable water bottle for your stay which is a nice gesture and their is a restaurant/bar attached to the hotel which was helpful in the AM for breakfast!

This hotel was wonderful. They went above and beyond to make our stay great! The amenities are really nice including the gym which we used daily and it was always stocked and clean. It's central to downtown with tons of restaurants and bars nearby. The bed is on the firm side but still comfortable for most people.

Such a beautiful boutique hotel!!!! The service was incredible the entire stay. The staff made my husband and I feel very special as we celebrated 20 years of marriage. All spaces are very clean and gorgeously decorated. The shower is so relaxing. The bathrooms are super spacious. Coffee is available until about 10am each day. The attached restaurant (Jasper's) has great food, but the aesthetic isn't the same as the hotel. The location is awesome and there's so much in walking distance. My only complaint (which has nothing to do with the hotel itself) is the noise from the city's homeless population. It's heartbreaking but can also be overwhelming if you're trying to work or vacation. BUT, I would absolutely stay at Hotel Spero again and again!!!

Please do not hesitate to book your stay here!! The weekend I was staying in San Francisco I was planning on proposing to my partner. Due to the weather I had to find an indoor space. Stephen (Sales & Catering) and Andre, were VERY accommodating! They allowed me to use the lobby, stopped traffic, celebratory champagne and wine... the whole nine yards! I appreciated everyone who helped me made the moment special. As well, our room and bathroom was clean with fresh towels, sheets, everything. There were several place that were in walking distance as well (foods, Walgreens, bars).

Lovely hotel with amazing service and great rooms - if you're willing to splurge a little. We stayed for a couple of nights over New Year's Eve and absolutely loved our stay at Hotel Spero. Staff was very welcoming and helpful and the service in general was outstanding at the hotel. It doesn't offer the full service that other hotels offer, such as breakfast (food can be purchased at an adjacent bar), but for our purposes the hotel was perfect. We booked the Serenity Suite, which quite honestly proved to be the best choice for us as it was spacious, furnished with cute decoration and a large couch, and generally felt very cozy. It almost felt like we had our own little apartment in downtown SF. The only thing I would want other guests to know is that there are many homeless people around. This is absolutely not the hotel's fault and shouldn't deter you from booking a room at the hotel - you can avoid most of it by spending as little time as possible around Market St. However, this will still ultimately serve as a reminder for the urgent need for policy change at city, state and national level.

Nice Hotel close to the city center of San Francisco. The room is quite small but big enough for a short stay. For me a big minus was the toilet. It was located very close to the side wall and also this the wall in front of the toilet. Sitting strait on it was not possible for me. I'm quite tall with 1.98m. Next to the hotel is a bar where you can choose between three different breakfast's. There is no buffet. The breakfast is served with tea, coffee or Juice.

Nice boutique hotel in a decent location. Just be careful not to turn right to the Tenderloin direction because of the homeless situation, though it is not the hotel's fault. Room was proper sized. Maintenance could be a little better as we had a blocked toilet which required the staff to help and clear. And the air conditioning doesn't work. We resorted to opening the windows for cool air. And oh, the WiFi is a bit spotty and insecure.

Fantastic art and boutique hotel. The service was excellent and kind. Spotless and clean. A completely restored 1923 lobby, marble, carved wood, art and hot coffee in the morning. The rooms, especially the suites are apartments worthy of movie stars. Designed down to fine details like the leather chair the settee and the carved cabinets for the flat screen tvs. The art pieces on the walls were my morning meditation. Jasper's, the on-site resto with a burger that Bourdain approved and great wines and cocktails to boot. Recommended to my friends . I could live here. And next time i am in San Francisco, I will. I didn’t see my original review so I’m reposting that if I could give them 0 stars … I would. My Husband and I were recently BURGLARIZED from our hotel room. Two backpacks and 2 laptops were stolen while we were out to dinner. Shocking they didn’t grab our smart watch or jewelry near by, but we had pretty pricey bags. Our door was securely locked when we left as we always check. No forced entry was noted and of course no offers of help for our trouble either. We immediately checked out after this issue and we felt no longer safe. Want to make this a warning if you choose to stay here. Please be cautious

This is a middle of road kind of a place to stay in SF. For the price I didn’t feel it was worth it but it is SF and things are pricy. Pros: The entry area and rooms are clean. There is coffee and tea in the mornings. Location isn’t too bad it’s right before TL so can get a little sketchy at night. Cons: The front desk staff wasn’t always there. After we checked in there was a line waiting because they had gone to lunch. Also when I called for help no one answered I had to go downstairs to find someone. It is loud! We were on the 15th floor and could hear the wind and people yelling on the street. We also could hear our neighbors in the next room.

This a cute hotel to stay. No parking onsite but there are two public parking lots. Excellent for convenience. It’s located near a lot of great tourist places. It was very clean. The restaurant had amazing servers, but it was a lot of waiting time because not enough personnel. Over all. Excellent hotel for safety and walking distance to Union square, less than a mile to Japantown or Chinatown. In front of theater, blocks away from a movie theater, etc. Gray location. The Pride Parade was 3 blocks from my he hotel too. Free coffee in the morning and 10% of any meal at the hotel restaurant. We stayed at the 17 foot and view to the street. It was beautiful!

OVERALL: nice hotel, nice bathroom and amenities, good location in the city centre. Very little gap between reality and the advertising pics they use. AREA: close to Union, few minutes walk, with all the major shopping destinations ROOM: the rooms are a decent size for Downtown SF. Some thought has gone into the décor. Bathroom is nice with nice amenities. FOR LIGHT SLEEPERS: not many disturbing lights, Aircon works and isn't too noisy. Overall, suitable.

The front lobby is beautiful and front desk staff super helpful! Rooms are small but cute and ours had a great view. Very confused with the room service. We didn't leave a tag on the door but when we came home, our room was cleaned. We told the front desk that had we had known they were going to clean our room, we would have secured our jewellery and passports. Front desk said that it wasn't appropriate and they'd talk to someone about it. The next day, we leave and come back to the room which was cleaned up again. There was also a knock on the door the following day and it was the cleaning staff trying to come in. Clearly communication was lost. We also had an opportunity to upgrade our room prior to check in through Expedia's site and when we did the upgrade, we got a message from Hotel Spero that we weren't allowed to upgrade... So whatever happened there. Lastly, absolutely skip whatever voucher they give you for the restaurant. No matter what you order, it'll come sopping in grease or butter.

I came here for a conference. I did not like Hotel. Also, I did not like the location, I didnt feel safe. San Francisco is not one of my favorite places. It is dirty and many homeless people, it's really sad how the City seems to be rundown. The rooms in the Hotel were small, no room service and no pool. The maid service was excellent. They did have a restaurant in the Hotel that I would rate a 3. I would not discourage you from visiting because you may like it, you may have to see for yourself. One good things it's very diverse with many different people which is nice to see.
