2 star amenities with a 4 star price. They hit the aesthetic of a boutique hotel, but failed to deliver on some of the obvious aspects of hotel comfort. I've stayed in hotels all over the world, and if I shell out $350 for one night I expect to not have to hear the quiet conversation of people in the next room in explicit detail... there isn't a threshold on the dividing doors between rooms, which gives you that "paper thin wall" feeling. Also, no room service until 5pm and not at all on Sundays?!, and $70 to park the car with the hotel for one night... luckily there is a public garage around the corner for half the price. The bed was comfortable and the staff were friendly. Let's just say I was incredibly underwhelmed. The big takeaway is that it's not a terrible hotel, just terrible value for your dollar...

The location was great for my work stay and the bed comfortable but definitely some issues. First off, the building is very old, as are the doors and somehow my deadlock got closed when I was out of the room. Staff was very helpful and eventually had to completely remove it, but not a great experience being locked out for 45 minutes. The gym was very very small, three people in that closet is absolute max. There was also no spray bottle or towels to wipe down and clean equipment. The water cooler in there was broken from day one and never fixed even after I told them. Coffee from the small cafe was good as was the bar, but won't be staying again.

The hotel is in decent shape, centrally located and has a very friendly staff. My only complaints are below... 1) paper thin walls means you get to hear all the noises. Could hear crisply almost every word our neighbors said along with the lovely trash compactor outside our window in the alley next to the hotel that had an alarm that would go off for hours at night. 2) No AC in the room and the only heat source is a single old style radiator mounted to the floor on the opposite side of the room from the bathroom. For the price... it's not a terrible place if you can sleep like a rock. If you are a light sleeper... spend a little more and stay somewhere else.

I'm giving this a 5 star review because I had a wonderful experience. I was worried after reading some reviews but did not experience one negative thing. I stayed in a room with my friend, mother in law, and 2 month old infant. I did not hear my neighbors through the walls, as previous reviewer's had complained about. The outside noise was not as bad as some reviews make it sound, just close the window and turn on the fan. I sleep with white noise for my baby so that could be why I didn't hear anything else. The room was comfortable, charming and clean. We all liked the ambience and mentioned how lovely and cool the whole place was. We all slept great. The main reason I gave 5 stars is because the staff was incredible. Literally every person on staff was beyond helpful and kind. I would stay here again because of how great the people were during my stay.

This hotel is okay. We were there in the middle of a heatwave and there was no air conditioning but I've heard that is pretty common in San Francisco. There was a ceiling fan in the bedroom. The room was large which was nice and the bed was comfortable. However, there were a number of annoyances: -The mini fridge barely kept things cooler than room temperature, even at the highest setting -We consistently had to ask for our room to be cleaned even though we didn't have a 'do not disturb' sign up -No microwave to warm leftovers up -The room key said the bar/kitchen was open at 2PM but it doesn't open until 4PM -The workout room is TINY and had a strong garbage smell -There's no actual desk to work at so you have to use the TV stand

I'm constantly booking last-minute hotels in SF for business travel, and this is the only budget-friendly place I've found in the whole Bay Area that was a pleasant surprise. They've made a real effort to make the decor contemporary and appealing; it has a hipster vibe and is impeccably clean. Had a spacious room with two beds facing away from the street on the second floor. Totally quiet. Such a soft and comfortable mattress with good linens. It's an old building so it's not perfectly noise-proof, but it didn't bother me. Comes with the territory in big cities. It is next door to a homeless shelter, but that had zero negative impact on my stay. Great location, really great price (threw in the $50 for parking because I could book a package online), charming style, no complaints. Just what I needed, and I'll definitely stay here again.

The staff was really nice! They held our bags and printed our Hamilton tickets when I forgot to before we left to visit SF. They gave us good recommendations too. They had free coffee in the morning and the location was convenient! The elevator was really small and the rooms were on the smaller side but were decorated nicely.

Some small things to note but overall amazing value for money for somewhere so central, with a good sized room and very nice staff. We had a small issue with the heating but the staff looked into it right away. The bathroom is perhaps on the small side (although absolutely fine for us coming from Europe!) but otherwise room is spacious, the hotel quite charming and individual. Would definitely stay here again - special thank you to Alexander for looking after us!

Nice room, very friendly staff. They made my stay here great. The bed was really comfortable. I was able to hear a little bit of noise through the walls but that was because the other guest was being a little loud. All in all a great stay at a cheaper price than some places around the area.

Actually it's 3.5 stars for me, as the room faced the street and it was loud. Other than that, it was a wonderful hotel stay. We live in an urban area and downtown SF is the loudest place I've stayed. The windows in our room did a poor job of toning down the horn honking and loud crazy people. The room itself was clean and lovely. It had the most wonderful high back chair, when used with the ottoman just screamed sit a spell and read. Loved that chair. The whole place has a lot of historic charm. We even took some time to venture down to see the plaque for the room where jazz vocal legend Billy Holiday got busted for drugs. The location is pretty good too if you plan on venturing out and seeing the sights and using public transit.
