DO NOT BOOK! Please READ!!! Front Desk is absolutely RUDE and not helpful. I was not able to find the additional charge of $20 per day on my confirmation and they just told me to talk to their partners I booked through instead of helping me clarify. I have never had such a BAD experience at a place like this!!! Please be BEWARE of their hidden fees and the absolute RUDE behavior by the lady at the front desk and the guy. They ended up asking me to leave their front desk and locked me out of my room ( only because I couldn’t see the additional charges on my booking confirmation???) I never said I was not going to pay, I just asked for clarification. If you really want people to just book through your own website then you should not have third party partners. Basic help should be given. NEVER coming here again and I suggest everyone to check their hidden fees they are charging during checkout. I would also ask the owners to SERIOUSLY talk to the 2 people at the front desk about their behavior. I am pretty sure no one who knows me will be staying at this place again until they change their lady (manager) and the guy at the front desk.

Blood on bedding and flooring, rooms are loud and smell like a mixture of fish and dirty diapers. When raised, we were promised a 50% discount and an upgrade to stay. Upon checkout, we realised that they only gave a 50% discount to the first night spent in a dirty, smelly room (which in hindsight should have been refunded completely) They charged my card multiple times with around $5000 of authorizations so my credit card was maxxed out and I had no access to money during my international trip. Most of these charges disappeared a few weeks later, but I was charged an extra $270 that the hotel keeps saying they never charged so I now have to go through my bank to get refunded. Hotel tried to gaslight me a few weeks after the stay saying there were no stains on the bedding, but these pictures clearly show the blood. The upgraded room was clean(er) but still really dated and dingy. For the price point I would expect the room to be spotless and at least a little bit updated. It had cheap motel vibes. Lobby is clean and staff overall were nice and helpful while we were there, but after the stay they refused to assist with the extra charge and wouldn't respond to further emails. Never heard back from them after that so had to resort to filing a dispute with the bank. Overall, as a single female traveller, I did not feel safe in this hotel. I would not recommend staying here at all.

Although we stayed here for a company paid trip, I wish our room had a view. It felt like we were in a box 🥴 other than that, the place was great & the staff were nice & friendly! Bed was comfy and Perry’s downstairs had some good food. Within walking distance of several restaurants.

The Hotel Griffon Employees were extremely accommodating, friendly, and helpful with any and all questions. They also gave fantastic suggestions for things to do and see, as well as places to eat. Hotel Griffon is in a great location and very central to most everything. Transportation is right at hand. We will stay here again on our next visit to San Francisco!

If you're looking for a small hotel right on the embarcadero with views of the Bay bridge this is definitely the place! It also has Perry's downstairs - great restaurant! A+!

Super cute hotel! Location is great - Ferry building, F train, and restaurants within walking distance. I stayed facing Embarcadero and the view was amazing. The room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Staff was friendly and welcoming. In the morning they had Peet’s coffee and small pastries available. Will definitely stay here again. Bonus: Perrys restaurant has Pliny on tap.

Good location, friendly staff, clean rooms, great to have Perry's next door. Three stars because they asked for $50 (or $60) to check in before 3pm. I've traveled to world over the past 25 years and this was a first. Not a disqualification in itself, but it was pouring rain outside when I arrived, so thought there might be a little empathy. On check out, waited 10 minutes for elevator and when it opened, there was crew hauling furniture up and down. So had to haul three bags down the stairs and through the restaurant. Understand it's a boutique hotel with only one customer elevator, but there was no notice or communication to guests the elevator wouldn't be available. There was an older couple who came back into hotel as I was checking out and they had to use the stairs to get to their room. Again, not a disqualification in itself, but having a disappointing experience at both the arrival and departure is why the 3 rating. I would stay at The Griffon again, everyone deserves a second chance. Good location and wonderful staff.

Our first room was not so great. 2nd floor sits on top of the restaurant and you will smell whatever the kitchen is cooking in your ac unit. Maybe they share the same event. We went back down, the gal who checked us in was sweet and understanding. Bumped up to an executive suite for the night. The room was excellent, spacious and smelled good. The soap brand they use smelled really good and clean. I loved it. Will definitely book here again.

I must admit, after reading a few reviews from a few travel sites, as well as Google and Yelp, I was very skeptical about staying here. But afterward, I gotta say, I loved it!! The bed was comfortable, and it had 4 giant pillows. All the amenities were good. The room was a bit small, but it was expected from a privately-owned hotel that's been around as long as this one. This was not a deal breaker. The hotel only has one elevator, which can take time to catch if you're coming/going with a lot of luggage, but if not, the stairs are right around the corner. And the hotel has its own restaurant, and the food was good, staff was so nice and attentive. There was a loud fire(?) alarm that was going off when we first checked in, but it didn't come back during our stay, at least not while we were in the building. Overall, it was a very enjoyable, comfortable stay. Thank you to the entire Hotel Griffon staff.

I love the service and the location! It's safe, convenient, and the views are amazing. The room was mediocre. There wasn't a sink in my bathroom, it was outside. The room was also on the smaller side with no view.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was great and the front desk staff were lovely. Parking is an issue - hence deducting a star. You can offload your stuff in the loading bay but then you need to park off-site. Contrary to what is stated on the hotel's confirmation emails, valet parking is currently NOT available. You can self-park at the parking garage opposite (Rincon center) which is secure but expensive (we paid $47 for a day) and the spaces are very tight (fine for Europeans like us - the tightness of the space might be a culture shock to people used to big parking spaces - especially if you are driving a big car!) That said, I guess you are going to have a parking problem most places in central SF.

Thank you to Regina at the front desk for making our stay as great as possible. Check in was seamless. The rooms are small, but that's the City for you. They are clean with very comfortable mattresses and pillows.

Perfect small room for one person. Bed was comfortable with nice pillows. Extra blanket, too, if needed. The room has coffee/tea maker. The shower was very nice with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash smelled great and great quality. The sink to wash your hands is in front of your bed, a little odd but not a big deal. My room was a standard queen, and right in front of my door in the hallway was the ice machine. Walls are thin, and whomever was above my room was a jolly green giant and stomping around until 9pm. The front desk and housekeeping are super nice and friendly. I would stay again because the price was right and bed comfortable. Great location, but sometimes outside the hotel smells like sewer, that's San Francisco for you, though. Oh and $38.00 for overnight parking a block away but you can walk through the Rincon Center to and from if needed. That's cheap for San Francisco overnight parking!

While our trip to this hotel is next month, I had to leave a review about the service I have received so far from this hotel in planning our trip. It is my daughter's first time in San Francisco and I wanted to make sure it was perfect. From booking the perfect room with a view to obtaining transportation for our tours, Ana was right on point every time. Brandon was also helpful and secured the payment so everything was taken care of upon our arrival. If they take such wonderful care of their guests before they arrive to ensure they make wonderful memories, I can't wait to experience what awaits for us at the Griffon Hotel. Thank you, Ana and Brandon. #Grateful

This was an interesting hotel in a prime location. I am used to the more modern, cookie cutter hotels, but I really liked the uniqueness of this hotel. It was clean and the staff was very friendly. It has a restaurant in the hotel and that is convenient. They offer a nice continental breakfast. There was no view of anything from our room, but that didn't bother us at all. The elevator was probably the smallest one I've ever been in. It did accommodate my husband, me, and 2 large suitcases just fine though. I loved that it was within walking distance of Pier 39, which is a very touristy area. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you are looking for something close to shopping and the port. It's convenient for tours of Alcatraz, watching the sea lions, the aquarium, and for people going on cruises.

I booked this hotel through Priceline and had quite an interesting experience (in a good way!). Read On. First off, shout out to Brandon at the front desk for helping me through the process of getting settled in. Upon entering, I was greeted by him and he was friendly, professional and very accommodating. Checking in was a breeze and I asked Brandon if there was a fridge. He said to check the room and if there wasn't one, I could borrow one by calling back down. Bet, as the kids say. I went up to the room, checked out the layout. It seemed clean and recently updated. I turned on the TV and no signal. I called down to tell Brandon about the fridge and lack of TV source. He came up to check it out and gave me keys to another room and then said to check for a fridge there. I went to the second room and upon opening the door, the smell of cigarette smoke wafted out. I called to inform Brandon that there was no fridge and about the smoke. He came up, dragging a mini fridge behind and checked the room for leaks. I asked if it was coming from the outside but his guess was that it was sucked in through their AC system from the outside as the hotel is non-smoking. He apologized and said he would upgrade me for the inconvenience. I told him it was okay if he wanted to place me back in the original room sans TV. He then upgraded me to a King room with a street view of Steuert. Really above and beyond service. I appreciated the upgrade and being able to borrow the mini fridge. The room was comfortable. I know some people complained about the size but I've stayed in a couple older hotels in SF and I gotta tell you this was, by far, the best. The amenities in each of the three rooms were different. You may or may not have a luggage rack, a sitting bench or a fridge in your room. There is a desk and the sinks are on the outside of the bathroom. The bathroom space is small but it appears the showers were recently tiled. The water pressure in my room was fantastic. I felt like I was being exfoliated while showering 🤣 The breakfast consisted of various pastries. Looking at them, I thought it was just going to be like any other hotel pastries. You may have seen some other reviews. They were actually very tasty. Overall, the staff is excellent. You can't beat the room for the price and location. Would definitely stay here again. Thanks, Hotel Griffon!

l used to stay in the neighborhood. It’s sad to see how the area has changed with homeless people around. I was looking forward to staying here because l used to dine at Perry’s a lot. Friendly staff, they checked me in very early. This was a last minute reservation so l couldn’t get a big room. I had a room without a window, though it had skylights. The bathroom was extremely small, the sink is in the room so that was interesting. When l lived on the Embarcadero, the street was very noisy, l couldn’t hear any noise from this hotel. Overall, good property if you’re looking for the basics, very good service from the staff. They offer free pastries and coffee in the morning.

Rooms were incredibly tiny to the point where they even lacked nightstands. Our window faced a dark shaft. And there was an inch gap under the door so you could hear literally every noise reverberating across the laminate floors. So glad we only stayed one night.

Location is key! Amazing location. Rooms are small but very well laid out. Elevator was broken, however the stairs were extremely nice with classic pictures that only added to the charm of the building. Very reasonably priced will be staying here again. Highly recommend.

Even the single queen rooms have a place by the window someone upto 6ft 1 can sleep in (need sheets and blanket). Perry's garden cocktail and their Sonoma sour were really good.

Had an exceptional stay, the receptionist was very kind and upgraded me to a room overlooking the bay. Highly recommended!

We just spend a couple of nights celebrating our anniversary and have to say what a great experience and stay we had! The hotel is central to most attractions including Fisherman's Wharf and the North Beach. We actually walked to little Italy our first night. Our room had a beautiful view of the Bay Bridge and was quite quaint. We really enjoyed The restuarant ( Perrys) as we had spent a couple of nights at the bar and had a romantic dinner by the window overlooking the bridge. Thank you Hotel Griffon for a wonderful anniversary! We highly recommend this hotel! ❤

I'll start by saying that the Griffon is trying to renovate at the moment. My husband, our baby, and I came to San Francisco for a wedding and our first year anniversary. There were a few mess ups but the managament well outdid themselves on making sure that we were taken care of. The employees here were by far the best part of staying at the griffon. Everyone was always so kind and helpful. The location was great as well and once they work out the kinks after renovations, it will be an even better place to stay!

Very small non-view room, as typical in an old building, but lovely, simple decor makes the most of it. Cool oasis on a day when SF was steaming! Love the 3 p.m. check in time. Nice in-room toiletry products. Recommend!

This hotel is just a block from the Embarcadero, so a perfect location. Super friendly check-in, l had a somewhat larger room, with a perfectly firm bed. I do not not like the "split bathroom" with the sink in the bedroom, but as a single traveller it was not a problem. Not too sound proof between rooms. Pls. note that if you have a prepaid room a $200 security is charged to you credit card, a way too high amount if you ask me. All that being said, if l return to SFO, this hotel would be on my list for a stay.

Boutique hotel so no fridge or microwave. Nice room, window but no view of anything, view rooms much more expensive. Perry's restaurant attached convenient, good food and great staff. Excellent location

Great location near the ferry terminal building and all the things to do in that area. Great restaurants and wonderful views of the bay. The service is second to none to any hotel we've ever stayed in. It's become one of our regular go to places in the city.

Lovely boutique hotel along the Embarcadero by the financial district. Had an executive suite. Nice and cozy with a feel of home. Soft, plush towels in the bathroom. Very clean and well maintained. The private outdoor terrace was a big plus! Price was right!

Very conveniently located by the financial district and the difference we were attending. Very attentive and friendly staff. Rooms are small but comfortable. Unfortunately our room has no view. Decently quiet. Rooms have desks if you need to work. Would definitely recommend
