Mt. Tamalpais Bike Ride. Mt. Tamalpais is not very far from San Francisco, but it is a different world. There is a paved loop that goes around Mt. Tamalpais that allows you to get away from the city and enjoy nature. It can be driven by car, although I recommend bicycling around it to really enjoy the views and get more immersed in the natural beauty. I start in Fairfax, heading up the Fairfax-Bolinas Road. After a few miles of mild traffic, the houses thin out and you're back to nature. The loop includes an alpine lake, and beautiful mountain and ocean views. The backside features almost as many bicycles as cars. There are plenty of climbs on the route, so don't try it if you're not in decent biking shape. If you need more of a challenge, take the Pantoll Road up toward the Mt. Tamalpais peak. There are good photo opportunities looking toward San Francisco from that road. There are almost no services available on the back side of the loop, so bring food, water, etc. Once you get back to civilization, watch out for traffic. I recommend an early start on hot summer days. On cooler days you may be better off waiting until late morning to avoid the fog that often envelops the area earlier in the day.

Highly recommended, great view, a must go places in San Francisco, you shouldn’t miss it if you visit San Francisco. A great place to relax and explore around in! There is a long trail along the coast that leads to beautiful scenery. Be wary of the rocks near the coast however; they can be hard to trek through and can be dangerous if inexperienced. Also remember to check the weather or else the fog will cover up the bridge. Other than that, enjoy the view and bring your friends along for a great walk near one of San Francisco's most iconic symbol!

I love walking there. I recommend Tennessee Valley Trailhead. You can take a walk in nature and finally relax on the beach. You should take your water and food with you. There is no shop where you can buy these. There are restrooms.

San Francisco is beautiful. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area is truly an unexpected surprise that such a large tract of nature has been reserved “for the people.” This place is exemplary yet juxtaposes SF city’s power, privilege on one end of the spectrum and the the all to common city conditions, on the other. My fiancé and I lived in San Francisco for several years and we also loved the natural beauty of the surrounding areas (Half Moon Bay, Pacifica Santa Cruz). However; Golden Gate National Recreation Area is a place full of beautiful mountains, hiking trails and of course the Pacific Ocean. The entire area around the Golden Gate Bridge is magnificent. I’d definitely recommend this place for a great getaway anytime!

Sunrise is spectacular up here. Lots of parking and the morning sun puts some incredible light on the bridge. My little iphone didn't do it justice but if you're more of a photographer than me (which is anyone with a half decent camera) you would love the sunrise there. Grab a coffee before you head up and wear some layers as it can be chilly!

Large recreational area, easily accessible from downtown SF, they are meant paths and trails so you can walk/jog/cycle any difference between 1-15 miles

This place is must to go in SF. Cal Academy of Sciences is great place to visit with children. There is Young museum for the art lovers and Japanese Tea Garden is perfect place for the people who want to have peace. We enjoyed a lot.

Beautiful sunsets in winter. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) in San Francisco, California, is an expansive and iconic urban oasis, offering an extraordinary blend of natural beauty, rich history, and recreational opportunities. Encompassing over 82,000 acres, it stands as one of the largest urban national parks in the world, drawing millions of visitors each year. At the heart of the GGNRA lies the world-famous Golden Gate Bridge, an architectural marvel and symbol of San Francisco. This stunning landmark connects the city to Marin County and offers breathtaking vistas of the city skyline, Alcatraz Island, and the Pacific Ocean. Beyond the bridge, the park embraces a diverse landscape, including rugged coastline, sandy beaches, rolling hills, and lush forests. A multitude of trails crisscross the area, inviting hikers, joggers, and nature enthusiasts to explore its beauty. Birdwatchers are in for a treat as the GGNRA hosts an impressive array of avian species, making it a birdwatching paradise. Moreover, the GGNRA preserves significant historical sites, such as Alcatraz Island, once home to a notorious federal prison, and Fort Point, a 19th-century military fort. These sites provide a glimpse into the region's storied past, captivating history buffs and curious visitors alike. The park also offers a wide range of recreational activities, from picnicking and camping to biking and surfing, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy. In summary, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area stands as a cherished gem in the heart of San Francisco, weaving together nature, history, and recreation into a tapestry of wonder. As visitors immerse themselves in its splendor, they forge an enduring connection with this extraordinary urban sanctuary.

The Golden Gate National Recreation Area is a stunning park located in the San Francisco Bay Area, known for its iconic Golden Gate Bridge, diverse ecosystems, and historic sites. One of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. The natural beauty of the area is stunning. You can also rent a bike and cover the beautiful 3 mile hike. I really recommend going here. Washroom is not that clean, so plan accordingly.

Golden gate national recreation area. Has a lot of great places that you can visit with your family. There are some area like Point Cavallo, Battery Yates, Golden Gate Bridge view vista point, Kirby Cove Beach, Black Sands Beach, Rodeo Beach, The Marine Mammal Center; among of others. Nice place for walk, learn about nature, swim, and the most important spent time with your family.

Rent your bike at Blazing Saddles (or any of many others), ride across the Golden Gate Bridge, down to Sausalito, get your hamburger at Bridgeway (almost literally, a hole in the wall) and chow down at the ferry landing awaiting your boat. Then ride the ferry back to San Francisco while enjoying a white wine (or whatever you prefer); if the bartender is Melinda, give her my regards (and a good tip!), she is my neighbor! I'm very happy to share the best of the Bay Area to healthy & fit folk! I have top quality bicycles (for short people!) that you can borrow for free. I don't want your money, I just love life and am very happy to share my zest and good fortune with anyone interested. Send me a paper letter (required to weed out the casual); you can mail me at 1817 Clinton Avenue in Alameda.

Amazing views and unpredictable weather. Excellent hiking trails near Lands end. Not for beginners, but parts of the trail is paved and places to stop and sit down.

First time being in San Francisco to see this beauty 😅🫠 Went down to Baker Beach to have a ‘better’ view… 🤡 But if you look closely there it is… The Golden Gate Bridge, in heavy fog clouds🌁 ✨

Biking hiking looking at the views are amazing. Getting out in the bridge on bike or foot is something you must do. Car Traffic is slow over the bridge as expected. Check out fort Spencer and fort point

Just make sure to take ur precious items with you. You don't want to be another satistic of motor theft in sf. There were over 15,000 reported motor theft. So don't leave any items in your car.

Strong breeze, sunny but cold. If you enjoy picnic, this is a good place with full view of bridge. There are plenty of parking spaces along the beach. Furthermore, there is no crowd to get a good picture!

Negative stars because the tunnel is out, meaning there is only one way out of the park. Imagine a line of cars 3 MILES long that barely moves, causing a several hour wait to get out of the park. This is a public health emergency. We are stranded in the park and cannot leave.

Beautiful place just outside of the city to hike bike and enjoy nature at its finest. Really cool to catch the Fogg at Sunset rolling over the hills as it touches the water, worth the trip if you haven’t seen it!

Wonderful place to visit. Views are incredible. Typically packed with tourists, Parking can be tricky. Lots of history and places to explore. If you know the story of the jail break from Alcatraz parts for the makeshift boat they prisoners made were found i8n GGNRA by the GG Bridge.

It is really nice to be here. To be relax, to have a hike with your family and friends, and most of all, to have chance to enjoy the great nature here. There is water, mountain, trees, hiking trails. Amazing views here. I have taken plenty pictures here. Enjoy.

  • 5/5 Miki C. 4 years ago on Google
WOW Great place for a hike. Best to find a time when or is less foggy (see pictures). Even with fog it was easy to find the trails, and the views weren’t half bad. Weather was slightly cool and nice, perfect for a short 2-4 hour hike.

Walking the Golden Gate Bridge is an unforgettable experience. The size of it is impressive but the height above the ocean is very interesting. The view over San Francisco is beautiful and all together makes it a great place to walk across.

This area is one of the most exquisite locations in the world. Golden Gate National Park incorporates parts of San Francisco, CA and across the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County to the North, including Muir woods. It is well with the time to visit and stay for a few days, maybe in picturesque Sausalito if not San Francisco

  • 4/5 Eric P. 4 years ago on Google
A few things to note. It may look like a lot of parking but it runs out very quickly, so show up early. Be prepared for lots of hills. Also be prepared for a lot of sun. There are almost no trees.

This area of Northern California is beautiful and at one time in the early mid 1800’s some of this land belonged to my 2G Great Grandfather.
